Bug#487975: marked as done (RFP: resize-gd -- resizes images using the gd-library)

Smaller images remain unmodified. * the images are resized to match a specific size. The images probably get stretched and enlarged. Only JPEG and PNG files are supported. The filetype is detected by the filename suffix which has to be `.jpg', `.jpeg' or `.png'. Unsupported files get skipped. All resizing is done in-place. The idea behind: -- This program is meant to be a small(er) alternative to the `mogrify -resize' command of ImageMagick. Mainly because ImageMagick has lots of dependencies, while the GD-Library has less. `resize-gd' is only for resizing images, not for doing all the other fancy stuff, that ImageMagick (or GraphicsMagick) can do. I wrote this program, because I had to install over 80MB on a fresh Debian installation, just to get a simple web gallery generator (`genwebgallery') to run. This came from its dependency on ImageMagick. (GraphicsMagick wouldn't have been better.) That is way to much, for the simple task that needs to be done: image resizing. I haven't found a small program that simply does image resizing. So I wrote that one. It uses the GD library, which is only about 1/10 in size, compared to ImageMagick. The quality seems to be slightly worse, but still good enough for most tasks (especially thumbnail generation). -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-5-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- I close this ITP/RFP as there are no plans to include this software into Debian anymore. The situation is as follows: After I submitted this ITP and created a Debian package, I was convinced that this software is not needed in Debian because there are alternatives already available in Debian. Anyway resize-gd was primary intended to support genwebgallery. See bug #484597. The answer to my question back then whether I should close the ITP, was that I better should leave it open because there might be a DD who wants to have it in Debian though. Hence, I left it open. Bug#524135: 2 more eyeballs and 2 more hands willing to help
Hi Eric, reading this bug report, its understandable why you might be reticent to continue fighting that good fight. I'm interested in packaging thrift for Ubuntu's next release (10.10) and hopefully also for Debian. Does your work parallel Digg's packaging of thrift, which seems to be workable, and may provide a decent starting point: http://mirrors.digg.com/digg/pool/main/t/thrift/ We're tracking this as part of a blueprint for Ubuntu 10.10 here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/server-maverick-cloud-datastores Also, does it make sense that given the incompatible nature of some of the snapshots, we might build multiple packages that are named based on their snapshot, and a virtual package 'thrift' pointing to the latest stable release? This would allow packagers to specifically target a compatible snapshot package for their particular needs without pinning the system to one version. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#579379: Comments regarding pyimport-relative_0.1.0-1_amd64.changes
mh, probably I'm missing something: - is pyimport-relative only available for 2.4? - is pyimport-relative an incompatible implementation of relative imports as present in python =2.5 ? - would it be possible to port to relative import as in python = 2.5 and declare pydbgr as only available for = 2.5 (Lenny has 2.5 as default...)? IMHO, either use the relimp as in python = 2.5 or don't use at all (as Piotr just suggested). Bug#503512: about maintaining ttf-arphic-* packages
Hi list, I'll adopt and continue to maintain those ttf-arphic-* packages under pkg-fonts-devel umbrella with Arne's help and close related wnpp bugs. (especially who has knowledge about Chinese font are welcome). Arne told me about those fonts are updated, but with non-DFSG-free license. http://www.arphic.com/cn/news/2010/20100420.html (in Chinese) The new license is here, rar archived Microsoft word file ;) http://www.arphic.com/tw/download/public_license.rar I put it converted to text http://www.mithril-linux.org/~henrich/debian/ARPHIC_PUBLIC_LICENSE_20100309.txt In that text, 0. Definitions: (snip) Freely Available means that you have the freedom to copy or modify the Font as well as redistribute copies of the Font under the same conditions you received but only for non-profit purpose. but only for non-profit purpose, this is violated DFSG (5). 1. Copying Distribution You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of this Font in any medium, without restriction, provided that you retain this license file (ARPHICPL.TXT) unaltered in all copies but only for non-profit purpose. I cannot find ARPHICPL.TXT in rar archives ;), anyway but only for non-profit purpose is there, too. So, newer Arphic fonts are not able to be distrubuted in Debian (sadly). Alexander, are you okay with startup-disk-creator? I think if we can get rid of usb in the name, that would be good as it can write to SD cards. I want to avoid using live in the name since, as I previously mentioned, it can write debian-installer based images, which are definitely not live CDs. I don't want to put Ubuntu in the name. The update process obtains LDIF from a number of sources and merges them. It then compares this to the contents of the database and creates an LDIF file of the differences. Tasklets run pseudo-concurrently (typically in a single or a few OS-level threads) and are synchronized with data exchanges on channels. . A greenlet, on the other hand, is a still more primitive notion of micro-threads with no implicit scheduling; coroutines, in other words. This is useful when you want to control exactly when your code runs. You can build custom scheduled micro-threads on top of greenlet; however, it seems that greenlets are useful on their own as a way to make advanced control flow structures. . Greenlets are provided as a C extension module for the regular unmodified interpreter. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: python-greenlet Source-Version: 0.3-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of python-greenlet, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: python-greenlet-dbg_0.3-1_amd64.deb to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet-dbg_0.3-1_amd64.deb python-greenlet-dev_0.3-1_amd64.deb to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet-dev_0.3-1_amd64.deb python-greenlet-doc_0.3-1_all.deb to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet-doc_0.3-1_all.deb python-greenlet_0.3-1.debian.tar.gz to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet_0.3-1.debian.tar.gz python-greenlet_0.3-1.dsc to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet_0.3-1.dsc python-greenlet_0.3-1_amd64.deb to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet_0.3-1_amd64.deb python-greenlet_0.3.orig.tar.gz to main/p/python-greenlet/python-greenlet_0.3.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#524135: 2 more eyeballs and 2 more hands willing to help
[ Clint Byrum ] Hi Eric, reading this bug report, its understandable why you might be reticent to continue fighting that good fight. I might be up for another round or two if there are others throwing their hats in. I'm interested in packaging thrift for Ubuntu's next release (10.10) and hopefully also for Debian. Does your work parallel Digg's packaging of thrift, which seems to be workable, and may provide a decent starting point: It looks like Digg's is based on Esteve Fernandez's work, mine was too, though I had made some forward progress. Not sure what the state of all these packages is now. FWIW, my latest (likely quite out of date) is here: http://git.debian.org/?p=users/eevans/thrift.git;a=summary http://mirrors.digg.com/digg/pool/main/t/thrift/ We're tracking this as part of a blueprint for Ubuntu 10.10 here: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/server-maverick-cloud-datastores Also, does it make sense that given the incompatible nature of some of the snapshots, we might build multiple packages that are named based on their snapshot, and a virtual package 'thrift' pointing to the latest stable release? This would allow packagers to specifically target a compatible snapshot package for their particular needs without pinning the system to one version. I wouldn't do this, no. If anything, I think you'd want to try and find the sweetest spot, and then backport fixes and patch as needed. Actually, I'm hoping that it'll be possible to get some mileage out of the forthcoming 0.3.0 release. -- Eric Evans eev...@debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#457075: Salomé packaging
Hello Adam, I have just succeeded to make a 5.1.3-9 release with VISU, I have enclosed the 2 patches. I also wanted to let you know that I have understood the runtime problems of VISU but I need to progress by steps (my solution is still too messy for being published). I will first be glad if the -9 release works for you too. With a fresh sid version, I got a problem on /bin/sh now linked to dash because autoconf publishes configure scripts with /bin/sh at top but the KERNEL configure.ac script uses 'function' which is a bash command. I could not find a solution yet (even by tweaking SHELL and CONFIG_SHELL). Then I wonder if doing a: chmod -x debian/tmp/usr/lib/python2.5/*-packages/salome/* is a nice idea because you can not list directories any more. I got this problem while debugging. I will try to provide a solution on that point by listing required scripts. Best regards, André On Mon, 2010-05-17 at 12:06 +0200, Andre Espaze wrote: Hi Adam, Sorry for the lack of news, I was focus on making VISU work. I have succeeded to build a Salome package however the current result is unfortunately split from our development line. That's why I will first explain my steps and then ask your advice on the merge as I saw that serious reorganizations are also pending. My goal is to provide a functional Salome package for mechanical engineering even if incomplete. As a consequence the necessary modules are for me KERNEL, GUI, GEOM, MED, SMESH and VISU. As VISU was failing in the build process of debian/rules, I decided to build it by hand by exporting the necessary environment variables. In that case I only had to modify the gui-build-in-tree.patch (attached to the mail) for making the libVISU linking work by adding the path to libToolsGUI. However, back to the complete debian/rules process, the compilation was still failing in the VISU CONVERTER library because of an absent template symbol (probably the same problem described in your mail on the 25th of January). So I needed to investigate the configure and build steps of debian/rules but those steps take lot of time. For easing my researchs, I decided to work on a package building only the necessary modules which I called salome-core. The working snapshot is available here: http://www.python-science.org/files/salome-core.tar.gz and I have attached the resulting debian/rules which configure every module separately. I could not find the problem in the previous loop configuration. From there two questions arise. First, I like the debian/rules file of salome-core but I remember that you were against such solution for maintenance reasons. Would you like me to adapt it as a loop or did you finally change your mind? From now it seems anyway that VISU needs to be configured separately. Second, could the current salome-core package be a starting point for the reorganizations that we discussed previously? For me it has the main advantage to build only the necessary modules, thus saving time for every run of Salome packaging. However it will require to write several packages (salome-advance and salome-dev). By comparing to the opencascade package, I understand that the whole building should be made in a row and the subpackages splitted by several *.install files. ... - self.CMD=['SALOME_ContainerPy.py','FactoryServerPy'] + self.CMD=['SALOME_Container','FactoryServerPy'] (I have adapted the patch to the current version.) ... I just took care of this, the result is in the alioth git repository. Thank you for the update. Even if the current version work, I would prefer to rename 'SALOME_ContainerPy.py' to 'SALOME_ContainerPy' because '/usr/bin/SALOME_Container' already exists and is finally overwritten in the install step of debian/rules. Even if several points still need to be discussed or adapted, the good point is that we know now how to build a Salome package with the essential modules. Once again, thank you very much for all your efforts. I am going to track the remaining bugs at runtime (some menu do not show up in SMESH, the results can not be seen in VISU). This gives the designer full control over the modelling process and enables him to easily change any step in the modelling process or make designes that are defined by configurable parameters. notable dependencies of this software are libcgal (which is non-free, but it's just some QPL parts, so openscad will go to contrib) and opencsg, which is not yet packaged (RFP/ITP will follow). i have a more-or-less ready package at [1], but as this is both the first package of software i didn't write myself and the first package i use with platform dependent binaries (ie not python), i'll need some feedback on whether i'm doing it right (everything works quite ootb, but i'm not sure if it works everywhere). the only left over lintian complaint is binary-without-manpage, and it can be built in cowbuilder with the opencsg packages from [2]. Bug#579379: Comments regarding pyimport-relative_0.1.0-1_amd64.changes
With the permission of Rocky, I am forwarding his reply here verbatim: I am in Crackow right now and my Internet setup is not quite ideal. Below is why pyimport relative is used. I will reply in full when I get back in about a week. But here are the salient points Python's import relative does not handle the development style I use. This style is that I can run the entire program or submodules of the program without installing any of them. Or run as an installed egg. By using import relative I don't even have to declare which parts form submodules. I think Python's import relative can handle this part. But it is with the following additional caveat that Python's import relative falls down. See [1] http://groups.google.pl/group/comp.lang.python/browse_thread/thread/a5c08a6456d1bcd2/43f7f1dffb4b5495?hl=enlnk=gstq=import+relative+rocky#43f7f1dffb4b5495 Each module file has some standalone code that demos the code and can be used for understanding. I use it as a quick way to test changes. I generally put code here this in advance of a unit test which is a more heavyweight kind of thing. This style for example is described, lauded as a wonderful feature of Python and used in Mark Pilgrim's Dive into Python. Of course it is possible to rewrite code to use Python's import relative, but I would loose this development style. So it is not out of ignorance of Python's import relative that I did this but because of deficiency. So it is my belief that the pyimport-relative package adds value which is why it is a separate package. Others may find benefit in this kind of style. If enough people find benefit, it may foster future improvements in Python's import relative. On Thu, 27 May 2010, Sandro Tosi wrote: mh, probably I'm missing something: - is pyimport-relative only available for 2.4? - is pyimport-relative an incompatible implementation of relative imports as present in python =2.5 ? - would it be possible to port to relative import as in python = 2.5 and declare pydbgr as only available for = 2.5 (Lenny has 2.5 as default...)? I'm therefore looking for somebody who wants to adopt it. Anyone willing to maintain it please contact the Debian X Strike Force (debia...@lists.d.o). Some info about the package: Description: X.Org X server -- VIA display driver OpenChrome is a project for the development of free and open-source drivers for the VIA UniChrome video chipsets. . Originally called the 'snapshot' release, since it was a snapshot of an experimental branch of the unichrome cvs code, this is a continued development of the open source unichrome driver (from http://unichrome.sf.net) which also incorporates support for the unichrome-pro chipsets. . Support for hardware acceleration (XvMC) for all chipsets has subsequently been ripped out of the unichrome.sf.net driver. Therefore your only option if you wish to make use of the acceleration features of your VIA chip with free and open-source drivers is to use this version of the driver. Homepage: http://www.openchrome.org Vcs-Browser: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video- openchrome.git Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video- openchrome I'm going to make one, hopefully last, upload to reflect some changes to the xorg packages build system. Changing the title is mostly useful in multi-process systems, for example when a master process is forked: changing the children's title allows to identify the task each process is busy with. Well if patches don't work - I uploaded the package here: http://pkg.ring0.de/debian/pool/main/t/tt-rss/ You could just fetch it and import it. Apart from that I suggest maintaining it in collab-maint with proper vcs-git header in debian/control file. -- Sebastian signature.asc Description: Digital signature
