First question: why do we need yet another parallel command execution
tool? Why is it better than pdsh, dsh, dish, fabric, capistrano,
taktuk+kanif, etc? I'm not arguing that it is not better, but we have so
many of those that it would make sense to elaborate a bit.

Clustershell is a tool like dsh or pdsh but it also provides a python API.
 It is used by lustre-shine[1]

So your plan is to also package lustre-shine? Have you gotten in touch
with the Lustre packaging team, then?

I do not intend to package lustre-shine for now, as I am only using
clustershell and not lustre-shine.

and it can also be used to script actions on a cluster.

 [1] lustre-shine (https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/lustre-shine/) is a
 command
line tool designed to setup and manage the Lustre file system on a cluster.

 Dear mentors,

 It builds these binary packages:
clustershell - An event-based Python library to execute commands on
 distant cluster nodes

Description: An event-based Python library to execute commands on local
or distant cluster nodes in parallel depending on the selected
 engine and worker mechanisms.
 .
The library provides also advanced nodeset handling methods. Its goal
is to improve the administration of cluster by providing a lightweight
 but scalable API for developers.
 .
 Example : clush -w node[001-256] hostname
 or clush -w node[001-256] apt-get update|clubak -c

That's not how Description: works. first line is supposed to be a 1-line
summary. And I don't think that it's a place for providing documentation
 (or examples).

A better description would maybe be :
Description : Distributed shell that provides an efficient python interface
Event-based Python library to execute commands on local or distant
cluster nodes in parallel depending on the selected engine and
  worker mechanisms.
  .
The library provides also advanced nodeset handling methods. Its goal
is to improve the administration of cluster by providing a lightweight
  but scalable API for developers.

This doesn't explain what makes the interface efficient.

In any case, I would recommend getting in touch with either pkg-lustre
 (http://pkg-lustre.alioth.debian.org/) or the PAPT team
 (http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonAppsPackagingTeam). I'm not
qualified myself to sponsor python stuff.

I am in contact with PAPT team and hope they will be able to review the
package.

Thank you,

Bug#585035: O: offlineimap -- IMAP/Maildir synchronization and reader support

2010-06-08 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the offlineimap package. I was both upstream
author and Debian maintainer. I am retiring as both; see
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.mail.imap.offlineimap.general/1759

The package description is:
OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify your e-mail reading. With
 OfflineIMAP, you can:
 .
  * Read the same mailbox from multiple computers, and have your
changes (deletions, etc.) be automatically reflected on
all computers
 .
  * Use various mail clients to read a single mail box
 .
  * Read mail while offline (on a laptop) and have all changes
synchronized when you get connected again
 .
  * Read IMAP mail with mail readers that do not support IMAP
 .
  * Use SSL (secure connections) to read IMAP mail even if your reader
doesn't support SSL
 .
  * Synchronize your mail using a completely safe and fault-tolerant
algorithm. (At least I think it is!)
 .
  * Customize which mailboxes to synchronize with regular expressions
or lists.
 .
  * Synchronize your mail two to four times faster than with other tools
or other mail readers' internal IMAP support.
 .
In short, OfflineIMAP is a tool to let you read mail how YOU want to.

  Programming Lang: C
Description : Share mouse and pointer with other computers

Mango-lassi lets you to share mouse and pointer with other computers using
 Avahi. It has features like:
  * Fully peer-to-peer. All Mango Lassi instances are both client and server
at the same time. Other hosts may enter or leave a running session at any
time.
  * No need to open X11 up for the network
  * You have a 50% chance that for your setup you don't need any configuration
at all. In the case of the other 50% you might need to swap the order of
your screens manually in a simple dialog, because Mango Lassi didn't guess
correctly which screen is left and which screen is right.
  * libnotify integration so that it tells you whenever a desktop joins or
leaves your session.
  * Shows a nice OSD on your screen when your screen's input is currently being
redirected to another screen.
  * Uses all those nifty GNOME APIs, like D-Bus-over-TCP, Avahi, libnotify,
Gtk,..
  * Supports both the X11 clipboard and the selection, supporting all content
types, and not just simple text -- i.e. you can copy and paste image data
between Gimp on your screens.

Bug#585061: RFA: pstotext -- Extract text from PostScript and PDF files

2010-06-08 Thread J.H.M. Dassen (Ray)
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the pstotext package.

The package description is:
pstotext extracts text (in the ISO 8859-1 character set) from a PostScript
or PDF (Portable Document Format) file. Thus, pstotext is similar to the
ps2ascii program that comes with ghostscript. The output of pstotext is
however better than that of ps2ascii, because pstotext deals better with
 punctuation and ligatures.

Please note that pstotext does not have an active upstream currently.

* Package name: tpl
  Version : 1.5
  Upstream Author : Troy Hanson
* URL : http://tpl.sourceforge.net/
* License : One clause BSD
  Programming Lang: C
Description : efficient C serialization library

Tpl is a library for serializing C data. The data is stored in its
natural binary form. The API is small and tries to stay out of the
way. Tpl can serialize many C data types, including structures.
 .
Tpl makes a convenient file format. For example, suppose a program
needs to store a list of user names and ids. This can be expressed
using the format string A(si). If the program needs two such lists
(say, one for regular users and one for administrators) this could be
expressed as A(si)A(si). It is easy to read and write this kind of
 structured data using tpl.
 .
Tpl can also be used as an IPC message format. It handles byte order
issues and deframing individual messages off of a stream
 automatically.

Bug#383968: don't expect me to fix this

2010-06-08 Thread Bdale Garbee
retitle 383968 O: xtrkcad -- Model Train Track CAD Program
thanks

Please note that xtrkcad has been RFA in WNPP since August of 2006, as per
#383968. There was one expression of interest in August 2009, with no
further followup.

I do not intend to do any further work on this package, including coping with
the removal of libgtkhtml2, so I am now marking xtrkcad as orphaned.

Bdale

Bug#581862: RFP: castor -- Data binding framework for Java (XML, Objects, DB)

2010-06-08 Thread Vincent Fourmond
  Hello,

On Fri, Jun 4, 2010 at 5:54 PM, Miguel Landaeta mig...@miguel.cc wrote:
From the list that Damien published weeks ago[1], I completed the packaging
of almost all packages in that list (EclipseLink is waiting for sponsoring),
but I don't know the status of Castor.

Since you indicated that you were interested in Castor I was wondering
if you are packaging it or if you would accept co-maintainance.

I would like to contribute if it is necessary.

I'm interested in castor as it is a dependency for jalview. I have
no specific interest in castor, however, and it's been really long
since I got any real work done on that side. I'd be happy to help, but
I don't have time to initiate the packaging for now; please go ahead
and fire away...

  Cheers,

Bug#585071: ITP: libnih -- small utilitiy library for C application development

2010-06-08 Thread Michael Biebl
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Michael Biebl bi...@debian.org

* Package name: libnih
  Version : 1.0.2
Upstream Author : Scott James Remnant sc...@netsplit.com
* URL : https://launchpad.net/libnih
* License : GNU GPL v2
  Programming Lang: C
Description : small utilitiy library for C application development

libnih is roughly equivalent to other C libraries such as glib, except
that its focus is on a small size and intended for applications that sit
very low in the software stack, especially outside of /usr.

It expressly does not reimplement functions that already exist in
libraries ordinarily shipped in /lib such libc6, and does not do foolish
things like invent arbitrary typedefs for perfectly good C types.

libnih is packaged as dependency of upstart = 0.6.5.

Bug#585088: O: webcalendar -- PHP-Based multi-user calendar

2010-06-08 Thread Elizabeth Krumbach
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Orphaning this package. It has been a challenge to maintain in
general, with a lot of open bugs upstream, and while 2 CVEs were
closed recently by a new upstream release, it has an open CVE which
upstream has been unresponsive about[0] (also see the open RC bug,
which caused the removal from testing:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=572557).

Adopters welcome, it's currently in git collab-maint:

http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/webcalendar.git

Package information:

WebCalendar is a PHP-based calendar application that can be configured
as a single-user calendar, a multi-user calendar for groups of users,
or as an event calendar viewable by visitors, it also supports
authentication via LDAP. It requires either MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite3,
 Oracle, DB2, Interbase, or ODBC.
