Bug#573497: W3C-Markup-Validator

2010-07-22 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

Have you checked :
http://packages.qa.debian.org/w/w3c-markup-validator.html ?

This is the main reference for Debian packages maintenance tasks, IMHO.
It states :

This package has been orphaned. This means that it does not have
a real maintainer at the moment. Please consider adopting this
package if you are interested in it. Please see bug number
#573497 for more information.

So, I think your first care should be for
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=573497

There's a procedure for declaring your intent to adoption of a package
that has been orphaned (ITA). I suggest that you read the paragraph on
the "O" status in the bottom of http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

Hope this helps,

Good luck.

Best regards,

#445265 If validated this should be fixable by just amending the

#263716 It seems if one maintains this package one may also have to
maintain w3c-linkchecker.

I have run up the current version on a fresh debian install and it
works. However it really needs to be uptodate with the latest upstream
version to be fully useful to me.

Bug#549926: packaging "Grünewalt VA"

2010-07-22 Thread Andreas B. Mundt
Tag: ITP

Hi,

first, many thanks for the instructions.

(for reference:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-fonts-devel/2010-July/005293.html>)

> Since the freeze is very close you may not make it.

> Take a look at one of the pkg-fonts packages that build-depends on

Did not find a fonts package that build-depends on fontforge, but
... (see below)

> I note that the font is listed as GPL licensed, I'd recommend asking
> upstream to add the standard GPL font exception to the license:
>
> http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#FontException

I looked into the license (OFL ?!) and found:

"5) [...] The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does
not apply to any document created using the Font Software."

So I guess this is fine.

> Then get someone from pkg-fonts or DebianEdu to review the package and
> upload it.

I prepared a draft package at:

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/debian-edu/people/andi/packages/gruenewald/>

To create it, I used the ttf-dzongkha-package source from

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-fonts/packages/ttf-dzongkha/trunk/>

as a kind of template. I seems to be equally simple and under the same
license.

There is one issue I am not sure about how to handle it properly: The
upstream source is distributed in a .zip file which contains file
names with spaces.

Up to now I unziped the source, replaced all whitespace characters by
"_" and tar'ed the resulting directory to obtain the orig.tar.gz.

I put a README.source into debian/ to describe that.

So if anybody from debian-edu or pkg-fonts could have a look, that would
be great. In the long run it would be nice to use the pkg-fonts svn
repository to maintain it.

Many thanks so far, tips, tricks and critics welcome.
Best regards

 Andi

it is GPL-ed and done by Artifex

it includes:

  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Moose extension to name your accessors get_foo() and
set_foo()

MooseX::FollowPBP does not provide any methods. Simply loading it changes the
default naming policy for the loading class so that accessors are separated
into get and set methods. The get methods are prefixed with "get_" as the
accessor, while set methods are prefixed with "set_". This is the naming
style recommended by Damian Conway in Perl Best Practices.

This package will be required by liblatex-table-perl (#589824) to get rid of
libmoose-policy-perl (#583460: no longer maintained upstream, RC-buggy).

Description : check WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK security

Pyrit allows to create massive databases, pre-computing part of
the WPA/WPA2-PSK authentication phase in a space-time-tradeoff.
Exploiting the computational power of Many-Core- and other
platforms through ATI-Stream, Nvidia CUDA, OpenCL and VIA Padlock,
it is currently by far the most powerful attack against one of the
world's most used security-protocols.

Bug#589944: RFA: keynav -- a keyboard-driven mouse cursor mover

2010-07-22 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The package in Sid and Squeeze is uninstallable due to libxdo1 to
libxdo2 transition.

I have fixed it in the first place, and submitted several RFSs to
debian-mentors. Please see [1].
I have also contacted at least two Debian Developers for it.

No comments nor uploads.

Well, since no one care about it, neither do I.

Kind regards
 Wen-Yen Chuang (caleb)

Bug#549926: [Pkg-fonts-devel] packaging "Grünewalt VA"

"sudo apt-get install devscripts ; build-rdeps fontforge" should find
some if you have a deb-src entry in your sources.list.

Ah, the RFP bug says that it is GPL not OFL, which is why I asked that.

Right.

A review:

You can remove the boilerplate comments from debian/rules.

README.source contains a typo: charafters

preinst/postinst do nothing and can be safely removed.

You need a long description for the font package.

The Vcs-* URLs are commented out and wrong.

Standards-Version is out of date.

The binary package name should be ttf--

Fontforge gives some warnings when I open the fonts in it and fontlint
finds several issues.

DFSG and license issues:

The PDF and the font don't have source code in the tarball/orig dir.
In this case we know there is FontForge source code for the font so it
needs to be shipped. The PDF embeds part of the non-free ArialMT font
and according to the metadata embedded in it, was created with "Adobe
Acrobat 8.1 Combine Files" and was "optimised". A quick search for
that leads me to believe that the PDF was created by merging multiple
PDFs (which we don't have), so Debian definitely does not have access
to the source code for the PDF. In any case the PDF doesn't need to be
shipped in the font package.

The font is under the SIL OFL with a reserved font name, so Debian
cannot build the font from source (patched or unpatched) unless you
rename the font. On the other hand we might need to patch it and build
from source if upstream goes MIA, which would mean the font and
package would need to be renamed before we could do so. This might be
annoying so you might like to ask upstream to drop the reserved font
name requirement.

Looking at the font information in fontforge, the fonts are
dual-licensed under the GPL with font exception and the OFL (no
specific version) so you need to update debian/copyright or clarify
the situation with upstream and get them to release a new version with
correct copyright/license information embedded in the font.

> There is one issue I am not sure about how to handle it properly: The
> upstream source is distributed in a .zip file which contains file
> names with spaces.

If a repack is needed, usually you write a get-orig-source target in
debian/rules (rather than a README.source) to download the upstream
archive and munge it as needed.

Bug#589961: RFA: hg-git -- Git plugin for Mercurial

2010-07-22 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the hg-git package. The package has to stay
under the Python Applications Packaging Team umbrella for at least 6
months.

The package description is:

The Hg-Git plugin for Mercurial adds the ability to push and pull
to/from a Git server repository. This means you can collaborate on Git
based projects from Mercurial, or use a Git server as a collaboration
point for a team with developers using both Git and Mercurial.

The plugin can convert commits/changesets losslessly from one system to
another, so you can push via a Mercurial repository and another
Mercurial client can pull it and their changeset node ids will be
identical - Mercurial data does not get lost in translation.

Bug#543936: Would like to take over maintenance of this package

2010-07-22 Thread Jean-Michel Pouré - GOOZE
Dear all,

I would like to take over maintenance of this package. I am not a Debian
developer, but I take part in OpenSC discussions and I have a vast

I contacted Ludovic Rousseau to ask if he could be my Debian sponsor.

We should I look next to submit a package?

2010-07-22 Thread Andreas B. Mundt
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

>From the corresponding RFP, #549926:

* Package name: ttf-gruenewald
  Version : 0.7
  Upstream Author : Peter Wiegel
* URL : http://www.peter-wiegel.de/Gruenewald.html
* License : SIL OFL and/or GNU GPL (inconsistend upstream,
author has been contacted)
Description : Free handwriting font known as VA in German schools

This package is dedicated to schools using free software like Debian
Edu (aka Skolelinux). Gruenewald VA is especially meant for German
schools; there are further free licensed fonts by Peter Wiegel
designed for other country's customs (so we can also consider bundling
those as package ttf-debian-edu or ttf-wiegel).

See discussion at:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-fonts-devel/2010-July/005299.html>
Some source code turned up on the German Skolelinux wiki:
http://www.skolelinux.de/~ralf/ttf-skolelinux/GruenewaldVA-Regular.sfd.gz>
So some upstream cleanup seems to be really necessary ...

Regards,

Andi

Bug#589944: RFS: keynav (updated package)

2010-07-22 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi,

Wen-Yen Chuang wrote on debian-ment...@lists.debian.org:
> I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.20100623.2958-1
> of my package "keynav". (Programming language: C)

I do use keynav on two of my systems where I then and when have
problems with the mouse (for different reasons though). IMHO it's a
neat little and in some corner cases very useful and important tool.

The package at
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/k/keynav/keynav_0.20100623.2958-1.dsc
builds fine and also looks mostly good. I especially like the fact
that there's now no more a convenience copy of xdotool contained in
the source. I just uploaded it to ftp-master.

I though have a few remarks about some minor issues though in case you
plan to prepare the next package version, too.

Wen-Yen Chuang wrote on http://bugs.debian.org/589944:
> Subject: RFA: keynav -- a keyboard-driven mouse cursor mover
> [...]
> Well, since no one care about it, neither do I.

For me, such attitude is normally a reason NOT to help with or sponsor
a package. But since I do care about keynav in Debian, I will still
sponsor it.

Not all people in Debian who care about package X are on
debian-mentors or in your address book. For example I noticed the RFA
via wnpp.debian.net's RSS feed.

I didn't yet notice that keynav is uninstallable in Sid on _some_
platforms, because all my Sid boxes also have the testing APT
repository listed where libxdo1 is still available. And on of the
machines where I use it, it is still installable in Sid anyway,
since for that and another platform, libxdo1 is still in the archive:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/libxdo1

If I would have noticed that issue, I'd have had a look why there's no
new package and then would have found your RFS, too.

You sometimes just need a little more patience with answers for
sponsor requests. As you see, sponsors do come, just not always
immediately.

So I'd be happy to see you taking back that defiant RFA. I'd also offer
to sponsor that package in the future, too.

Kind regards, Axel

PHASEX is an experimental software synthesizer for use with Linux/ALSA/JACK.
The name comes partially from its experimental method of using phase offset
modulation, where each oscillator can have its phase offset between right and
left channels modulated by an LFO or another oscillator.

Bug#589944: RFS: keynav (updated package)

It is not an emotional decision.
Due to various reasons, I have had planned to orphan all my packages
after release of Squeeze.
The decision was made on Sep. 2008, about two years ago.

Some of my packages has found their new maintainers.
(xf86-input-tslib and gcin, for example.)
I am busy, however I still kept all my packages updated and in a good shape.

My plan is not changed, so I will kept the RFA.
If no one adopt it, I will orphan keynav after release of Squeeze,
as planned about two years ago.

I would be happy to fix any issues before release of Squeeze.
I do want to make sure that keynav is in Squeeze stable release,
of course.

Kind regards
