If you want to remove it you just need to fill a bug report.
Take a look at:

http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals

If you decide to remove it from unstable, the removal will
propagate to testing if there are no dependencies keeping
it around. If you want to only remove it from testing, it
is a different kind of bug report but also described in the
above link.

Just out of curiosity, how this impacts Alioth and debian.org
CVS repositories? Probably it would require to probe DSA and
Alioth admins.

Kind regards,

Just one more thing I forgot to mention: ParallelUserAgent also does not
work with perl 5.12 (see the report above). perl 5.12 was already under
consideration for Squeeze, but has not been included to not delay the
release any further. However, I suppose perl 5.12 (or later) will be
introduced soon after Squeeze has been release. It would be nice if
modules already support this.

I already mentioned this problem before as well [2].

Ansgar

I wonder if it might be less painful to drop the Conflicts as well,
given that even devscripts depends on libwww-perl.

Two ideas to achieve this:

Rename the modules in libwww-perl5.508-perl (ie. LWP::UserAgent $B"*(B
LWP::UserAgent5808 or some other such scheme) and adapt the rdeps as
well.

Or install the Perl module in a non-standard location (one that is not
in perl's default @INC) and make sure the rdeps add this directory to
@INC before any (even indirect) 'use LWP::*'. You should probably
document this in README.Debian.

Ansgar

Note that this would be "libparalleluseragent-perl" (there is no dash in
the upstream distribution name).

So I guess this means that bioperl1.2.3 uses libwww-perl directly as
well? Or is it always handled via this module?

A report on CPAN [1] suggests that it might be easy to fix this module,
but I haven't tested this. If this turns out to be true and other parts
of bioperl1.2.3 don't require the old version, we could at least save us
from packaging the old version of libwww-perl.

Ansgar

Bug#594834: ITP: cicero -- French and English Text-To-Speech for MBROLA

2010-08-29 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Samuel Thibault

* Package name: cicero
  Version : 0.7.2
  Upstream Author : Nicolas Pitre
* URL : http://pages.infinit.net/fluxnic/cicero/
* License : GPLv2, but depends on non-free MBROLA, thus targetting
contrib.
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : French and English Text-To-Speech for MBROLA

This Text-To-Speech (TTS) engine speaks French; a preliminary English support
is also offered.
The engine uses context-sensitive rules to produce phonemes from the text. It
relies on MBROLA to generate actual audio output from the phonemes. The TTS
engine is implemented using the Python programming language.

The upstream authors have come up with this TTS to try and meet their own needs
as blind users.
It's designed to be plugged as output to some screen-review software, firstly
with BRLTTY.
They favor speed and intelligibility over perfect pronunciation.
Cicero is aimed to have a quick response time, the ability to quickly shut-up
and skip to another utterance, intelligibility where it counts (not perfect
pronunciation), the ability to track speech progression, relative simplicity
(hackability) and relative small code size.

I didn't know. Therefore your assumption is wrong. Please add more words
mentioning something that most users would want to do with it, like
"fglrx" "AVC" "acceleration".

Already uploaded to NEW.

xvba-video is the right source package name, the binary package is named
xvba-va-driver (same way as the nvidia VA driver: vdpau-va-driver).
The package description already mentions, that it is ATI/AMD specific.
Users who want to activate this feature also know, that the AMD

I don't see any problems with that name.

vdpau-va-driver has
Provides: nvidia-va-driver, s3g-va-driver, va-driver, vdpau-video

Thanks Tom for the patch! I will definitely apply it to the package.
Could you forward it upstream to liboauth.sourceforge.net?

Bug#593587: ITP: libparallel-useragent-perl

well spotted. As you may guess, we followed the file name. Since
others will have the same difficulty, I suggest to leave the source
name as it is name the package just like you say. I'd also want to
add a Provides to the libparallel-useragent-perl since people
are really looking for this ... Maybe the notion in the description
would be sufficient. But, an explicit provides probably helps.

Sigh. Well. That old version of bioperl is the culprit of it all, and that
in turn is dragged in by Ensembl, which is just on the brink of being uploaded.
In an Ensembl production environment you would not use the bioperl > 1.2.3 .
And bioperl1.2.3 needs the liblwp-parallel-perl. When you know what you are
using, you may possibly have something sufficiently working without the need
to uninstall the current libwww-perl with the many reverse dependencies.
But this should not be the default. The real audience for this package though
are dedicated machines, real or virtual, that don't have much more than Ensembl
installed. The "|libwww-perl" took a very pragmatic stance.

What should happen over the next couple of months/years though is to have the
need for those older packages to disappear. But this needs more time than
we should allow Ensembl to remain outside of our distro.

Many thanks and regards

Steffen

The package suffers a critical bug and should be updated or even better

I fully agree. Do I need to do something to remove it?

Ack. We'd reupload with the "Provides" gone ... and upload to experimental

Bug#581601: Libraries linked into liboauth

2010-08-29 Thread Tom Parker
Liboauth (certainly in 0.8.8) doesn't link in the full set of
libraries itself, but relies on the end user to do so, hence
dpkg-shlibdeps confusion. This is pretty silly, and also means we get
a large block of libs listed in oauth.pc, which is also annoying. The
attached patch fixes these issues with liboauth 0.8.8.

Hi David,

As the program and the data files have different licences (GPL/LGPL/MIT
for the program and CC-BY-SA for the data) and come from two differents
tarballs, I thougt I would do two sources packages.

I am not a DD nor very sure of this, so don't hesitate to correct me if
you think I should do this in a different way.

Bug#593568: ITP: libwww-perl5.808-perl -- version 5.808 of libwww-perl

2010-08-29 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

I am not too happy about libwww-perl5.808-perl. I see several problems
with this:

1. We obviously don't really want old versions of libraries,
2. This package provides and conflicts with libwww-perl, that means
2a. packages with versioned dependencies on libwww-perl will not be
co-installable with this package (this includes libbio-das-lite-perl
as well which I think is related to Ensemble/BioPerl and in NEW as
   well).
2b. might break packages that have an unversioned dependency on
libwww-perl, but expect a newer version.
As libwww-perl has many reverse dependencies (> 200 direct rdeps) this
seems likely to me; I did not investigate how many packages have
versioned dependencies on libwww-perl.

Regards,
Ansgar

Just one ITP suffices. We need one ITP for each source package, not binary. So,
if both 0ad and 0ad-data are built from the same source package, you might want
to merge the two bugs.

If this is the case, please send a mail to cont...@bugs.debian.org with the
following text:

merge 594800 594802
thanks

If they come from two different tarballs, you have two options:

1) use the "multiple tarballs" approach with the 3.0 format (see

http://wiki.debian.org/Projects/DebSrc3.0#Howtousemultipleupstreamtarballin3.0.28quilt.29format.3F
 )

2) upload two different sources

Your choice, really :). I was just making sure you knew what you were doing :)

Bug#593587: ITP: libparallel-useragent-perl

2010-08-29 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

the module name does not comply to a "should" requirement of the Perl
Policy:

  4.2 Module Package Names
Perl module packages should be named for the primary module
provided. The naming convention is to lowercase the Perl module name,
prepend, lib, change all occurrences of :: to -, and append -perl.

Some packages that use the distribution name instead, but that is not
the case either here (there is an additional "-" in the package name).

Please consider changing the package name to "liblwp-parallel-perl"
before it is accepted into the archive.

Another related question: Are there other modules that need the older
version libwww-perl5.808-perl of libwww-perl besides this one? At least
bioperl1.2.3 in NEW lists the regular libwww-perl as an alternative as
well so it seems not required there.

Ansgar

Features:

* It produces high quality extreme sound stretching. While most sound

one is optimized for extreme sound stretching. So, the stretch amount is
unlimited.
* You can play the stretched sound in real-time (including the possibility

* It has many post-processing effects, like: filters, pitch/frequency

Bug#589818: ensembl-core -- Ensembl core Perl API

2010-08-29 Thread Steffen Moeller
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Steffen Moeller

Hello,

I just spotted your ITP for the ensembl-core module when I was
about to submit them same fpr our local effort towards a package
for an Ensembl web server.

Some further in-depth tests of its functionality are still
pending, but what we now have one
svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-med/trunk/packages/ensembl/ensembl
within the Debian Med repository that seems fine and the Ensembl
core API is a part of that.

We have so far prepared the packages ensembl, ensembl-bin
(collecting the bits that were compiled) and ensembl-doc.
Because of your distinct interest in the core API, we will now
also prepare an ensembl-core package. It would be lovely if
we could share the effort to finalise that (and the other)
package(s). Would you have your Debian directory available
for me to inspect?

For the best possible experience with the package, we had prepared
a series of additional packages for Debian, some of which
being older version of well established Perl libraries. The
most prominent one is probably BioPerl1.2.3, others are
libwww5.808 or libparallel-useragent. Those are still in the
Debian New Queue.

If you are not yet aware fo Debian Med, please check out
http://debian-med.alioth.debian.org
and for joining just send me your alioth user id, please.

Hoping for a nice collaboration on Ensembl and many further
biomolecular Debian packages, with best regards

Steffen
