Bug#605557: O: potamus -- extremely lightweight GTK-based audio player

2010-11-30 Thread Ricardo Mones
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current maintainer of potamus, Anibal Avelar
is apparently not active anymore. Therefore, I orphan this package now.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you will have enough time and attention to work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Description: extremely lightweight GTK-based audio player
 Potamus is an extremely lightweight GTK-based audio player with a
 simple interface and an emphasis on high audio quality.
 .
 It was written as a reaction to players like Rhythmbox that use a
 complex database to keep track of a music collection. Potamus uses of
 the filesystem for sorting music, so it knows nothing about the files
 it's playing other than their names, and tries to make it as easy as
 possible to use your file manager to locate and play music.
 .
 It can decode FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, MPEG audio, and any format supported
 by the ModPlug or audiofile libraries. For MPEG audio playback
 (including MP3), it uses libmad's high-quality decoder to produce
 dithered 24-bit output. It can use OSS or ALSA (via libao) for direct
 output, or can work with JACK, converting sample rates and formats
 where necessary. It supports 24-bit audio output and gapless playback.
 It can perform simple operations on channels (sum and difference, phase
 reversal, single channels).

Bug#506040: Status of ceph ITP?

2010-11-30 Thread Laszlo Boszormenyi

 It's not an easy situation as its packaging goes on three way. First is
yours, to make it up-to-date quickly as new release happens. The other
two is for Debian and Ubuntu. Divergency will be minimum, expect
debian/changelog I think. Still it would be good to use quilt format for
packaging[1].
On the other hand, do you really need so fast package release cycles?
Usually I'm fast and active, still you'll lose at least a day or two
waiting on me for release an updated package. I don't know Clint, but he
seems to be active as well. Also I may apply for a per-package Ubuntu
upload rights which means I can upload the package simultaneously to
Debian and Ubuntu. This would help users in two ways: they don't need to
look for and setup an external package pool (Debian and Ubuntu already
have a backports archive) and ceph would be consistent on all archs
(backports have autobuild on all archs, including but not limited to
alpha, mips, sparc, s390).

Only one question remains, if we go three way packaging, how should we
version our package versions? Yours should have a priority, but official
backports from me and Clint should override it. I propose that your
version number should be upstream_version-[123...] and ours should be
upstream_version-[123...][lenny|squeeze|maverick][123...]. Clint?

[ about hdparm dependency ]

 Would it be hard to get this info by yourself somehow?
Please note that I'm not a security expert, but as I see you create your
temp file in a very deterministic way. What if I'm evil and I make a
symlink named as your soon-to-be tempfile to a system binary / file?
Of course I see that you test for root (euid == 0) and if not, you don't
run hdparm. It's not a set[ug]id binary (I mean ceph), so we are safe as
normal user really can't start it.

 OK, it can remain as a dependency for user safety.

> Great! There are a handful of bug fixes I'd like to roll into v0.23.2
> first, if it isn't too much trouble. I can do that today.
 We can wait for the release to be safe. Some more days to upload it
doesn't make the world.

> Clint, do you see any remaining issues I should fix first?
 He prompted for checking upgrades of previous ceph versions to this
one on Ubuntu Maverick. Don't know how it goes, today I'll check it
myself as well.

Laszlo/GCS

Bug#604879: Some things to fix in phptidy

2010-11-30 Thread jidanni
Some things to fix in phptidy:

define('CONFIGFILE', "./.phptidy-config.php");... should also read
~/.phptidy-config

We also find no config item to turn off using cache files.

Should add manpage.

"source Show processed source code of affected files"
probably means 'like the suffix command, but write output to stdoun'

Which just shows that the user should be doing the ">" etc. instead of
trying to do it all for the user.

project files include/exclude: all should be the user's responsiblity,
to just list them one by one in a makefile, or on the command line etc.

Don't print the top of the config file each time we run phptidy.

The diff etc commands should not print escape sequences to the
terminal.

Try this: save the output of the source command to a second file, and
then run phptidy again on that second file. No output will be produced
at all! (of course we have first removed the stuff that should have
been sent to STDERR from the top.) Now insert a blank line at the top.
We now get output again.

You may have considered space after comma, but not space after
semi-colon.

switch {}: all case: end up in first column.

OK. I figured out how to meet all my php formatting needs.
I did
apt-get install php-elisp
Within which (aside from
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=414430 ) doing
C-x h runs the command mark-whole-buffer, then
TAB (translated from ) runs the command c-indent-line-or-region,
indents very well. (But doesn't do spaces around colons etc.)

Bug#605380: progress of work

2010-11-30 Thread Alexander Matthes

Hi all,

I'am on the half way to a better and more correct version of "aha". The
parsing is now much better and easier to understand (for a code reviewer)
and I try to get a "dirty" compatibility with htop - and it works okay
until now.

greetings,
Alex

Bug#605530: ITP: libcgi-application-plugin-authentication-perl -- CGI::Application authentication module

  Description : CGI::Application authentication module

This module is already in libcgi-application-extra-plugin-bundle-perl.
However this is the largest module in that package and that is a large and
unwieldy package. However this package will still be a bundle
because it will include all the modules on CPAN that are within
the CGI::Application::Plugin::Authentication name space.
To faciliate this it will use the pkg-components tool and in fact will
be the first package to do so.
On account of the complexities inherent in trying to split up a large package
this package will initially be uploaded only to experimental.

Bug#605522: ITP: libcgi-application-plugin-anytemplate-perl -- use any template system from within CGI::Application

2010-11-30 Thread Nicholas Bamber
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Nicholas Bamber

* Package name: libcgi-application-plugin-anytemplate-perl
  Version : 0.18
  Upstream Author : Michael Graham
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/dist/CGI-Application-Plugin-AnyTemplate/
* License : Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : use any template system from within CGI::Application

This module is already packaged in libcgi-application-extra-plugin-bundle-perl.
However that is a large and unwieldy package and this is one of the largest
modules in that package and would stand much better on its own.
However on account of the complexity of splitting packages I will upload to
experimental only.

Bug#605509: ITP: fonts-sil-gentium-plus-compact: smart font family for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic (tight spacing version)

2010-11-30 Thread Nicolas Spalinger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Nicolas Spalinger

* Package name: fonts-sil-gentium-plus-compact
  Version : 1.504
  Upstream Author : Victor Gaultney, Annie Olsen, Iska Routamaa, SIL
font engineers, SIL International
* URL : http://scripts.sil.org/Gentium
* License : Open Font License 1.1
  Description : smart font family for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic
(tight spacing version)

Description:

Gentium ("belonging to the nations" in Latin) is a Unicode typeface
family designed to enable the many diverse ethnic groups around the
world who use the Latin script to produce readable, high-quality
publications. The design is intended to be highly readable, reasonably
compact, and visually attractive. Gentium has won a "Certificate of
Excellence in Typeface Design" in two major international typeface
design competitions: bukva:raz! (2001) and TDC2003 (2003). The goal is
to provide a single Unicode-based font family that contains a
comprehensive inventory of glyphs needed for almost any Roman- or
Cyrillic-based writing system, whether used for phonetic or orthographic
needs, and provide a matching Greek face. In addition, there is
provision for other characters and symbols useful to linguists. This
font makes use of state-of-the-art font technologies to support complex
typographic issues, such as the need to position arbitrary combinations
of base glyphs and diacritics optimally.

Gentium Plus is based on the original Gentium design. However, it now
has the full OpenType and Graphite support that Doulos SIL and Charis
SIL contain — including full IPA support.

Gentium Plus Compact is a dedicated derivative with line spacing metrics
modified to "Tight" via TypeTuner. More font sources (including web
fonts and corresponding examples) are available in the main Gentium Plus
release.

Bug#506040: Status of ceph ITP?

2010-11-30 Thread Sage Weil
Hey Laszlo,

These changes are great! I incorporated all of your changes into
ceph.git, and also fixed up the ceph.spec.in to include the missed gui
files.

> I've changed the way debug parts of the packages are handled. It may

Yay, the old way was definitely a hack.

Whatever you think would work best. I would like to keep the debian/
files in some form or another (although whether they live in ceph.git is
an open question) since I build packages for sid, squeeze, and lenny for
the ceph.newdream.net site, and would like to do so immediately when a
release is made. But if you can handle the packaging changes and
uploading to debian that would (continue to be) helpful. Or if the
packaging stuff is managed by you separately, but still available
somewhere for me pull and build my packages against. What do you suggest?

> Are you sure that ceph should depend on hdparm? What if my box has SCSI,
> SAS or other disk that isn't [sP]ATA? Yes, there's sdparm, but do you
> use it directly from ceph? Should it be a recommendation instead?

Currently it's only used by os/FileJournal.cc to check for a journal on a
block device with write caching off. This is only a problem for kernels
prior to 2.6.33 (which unfortunately includes squeeze!), so I'm inclined
to keep it for now. In any case, though, the code fails gracefully if
it's not found, so a recommendation would work. And yeah, it doesn't try
sdparm if hdparm doesn't do the trick. But it catches most administrator
error as is, which is the goal.

> If others agree, I'll upload it in some days. It'll sit into the NEW
> queue and may take a while to be officially accepted.

Great! There are a handful of bug fixes I'd like to roll into v0.23.2
first, if it isn't too much trouble. I can do that today.

Clint, do you see any remaining issues I should fix first?

Thanks!
sage

Bug#605492: ITP: fieldtrip -- toolbox for MEG and EEG analysis

2010-11-30 Thread Michael Hanke
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Michael Hanke

* Package name: fieldtrip
  Version : 0.20101101
  Upstream Author : Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour
* URL : http://fieldtrip.fcdonders.nl
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: Matlab/Octave
  Description : toolbox for MEG and EEG analysis
 The software includes algorithms for simple and advanced analysis of MEG and
 EEG data, such as time-frequency analysis, source reconstruction using dipoles,
 distributed sources and beamformers and non-parametric statistical testing. It
 supports the data formats of all major MEG systems (CTF, Neuromag, BTi) and of
 the most popular EEG systems, and new formats can be added easily. FieldTrip
 contains high-level functions that you can use to construct your own analysis
 protocols in Matlab. Furthermore, it easily allows developers to incorporate
 low-level algorithms for new EEG/MEG analysis methods.

This software is distributed as a Matlab toolbox. However, the NIMH
distributes a “port” of fieldtrip to Octave (at
http://kurage.nimh.nih.gov/meglab/Meg/Software). It needs to be figured
out who did that, whether this port can be incorporated into the
official version, and to what degree it is complete.

Packaging fieldtrip is required to complete the packaging of SPM8
(#592390).

Bug#605476: RFP: libjs-jquery-tipsy -- Jquery plugin adding advanced tooltips

2010-11-30 Thread Roland Mas
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libjs-jquery-tipsy
  Version : 0.1.7
  Upstream Author : Jason Frame
* URL or Web page : http://onehackoranother.com/projects/jquery/tipsy/
* License : MIT
  Description : Jquery plugin adding advanced tooltips

The next upstream version of FusionForge is going to make some use of
Javascript stuff; most of it is done with JS frameworks already packaged
(including Jquery), but, a few features are going to require the Tipsy
plugin. We could of course embed a copy, but that's bad practice, so
I'd rather request a proper package to depend on.

I'm a heavy user of autossh (it's also mentioned in my SSH tips and
tricks talk), and would take care of the package as I do care about
that package.

With reagrds to bug reports it looks like being in a good shape, which
is also my experience from using it. So I won't upload a new version
soon if that doesn't change.

But I will have a closer look at #552064, and I'm now subscribed to
autossh's bug mails to get informed if new bug reports arrive.

Bug#487125: Lost interest in adopting apt-rdepends

2010-11-30 Thread Axel Beckert

retitle 487125 O: apt-rdepends -- Recursively lists package dependencies

Hi,

Axel Beckert wrote back in June:
> owner 487125 Axel Beckert

I must admit, I've lost interest in the package.

My main urge for adopting it was to fix http://bugs.debian.org/299228
("reverse build depends would be really useful") -- until I found out
that there is already a script named build-rdeps in devscripts which
does this already.

The other point is that -- after looking at the package closer -- I
noticed that despite it's a non-native package, it basically was one:
Simon Law is upstream author and maintained the package, too, but he
has retired from Debian.

So whoever adopts this package has probably either to fork it or to
continue maintaining it on a patch base only (which would be more or
less the same work), or prod Simon to continue upstream development.

Guy, Bastien, or whoever takes over this package: All the work I did
on the package so far (mostly fixing minor packaging issues) is at [1]
-- feel free to use it, but I don't mind if you start new from
scratch.

  [1] http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/apt-rdepends.git

BTW, the upstream website given in the watch file and debian/copyright
do no more work, the new site is http://sfllaw.ca/freesoftware.html. I
changed that already in the above repository.

I will probably also do a QA upload based on that work, but most
likely only after or close to the Squeeze release (unless the package
has been adopted until then).

I'm also willing to sponsor this package, but I'm not sure if I would
co-maintain it.

Glad to know you are interested to package gotoblas2.
I was planning to package it after squeeze but please do ;)
(I can help if you want).

Anyway, if you don't mind, I have two requests.
1) Would you mind putting gotoblas under the Debian Science umbrella ?

2) It would be very nice if you could configure it using the same
alternative mechanism as Atlas or BLAS/LAPACK:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScience/LinearAlgebraLibraries

Thanks,
Sylvestre

You'll probably want to synchronize with the Debian Science Team and
Sylvestre Ledru, the maintainer of the atlas package.

improved them. The original authors disappeared, and from what I deduce
from http://www.mpeg.org/MPEG/mpeg-pointers-and-resources/, the MSSG
software is considered "public-domain" nowadays.

I guess we can and should try to get the package into debian, with these
pieces of information included in debian/copyright.

I hope, but honestly do not believe, that one web page that mentions
the term "public domain" and another one that holds software that can
somehow be connected to the code in mpjegtools is sufficient to
convince FTP-Masters of its DFSG-freeness. Anyway, we should start
bring the package in shape and simply try!

For those interested, we could start with my packages targeted at
debian-unofficial.org (when etch was stable!) found here:

Bug#605380: Bugs

2010-11-30 Thread Alexander Matthes

Hi all,

thanks for the explanations, Adam. It was hard for me to find a good
documentation of the terminal colors, so I wrote this application by
reverse engineering of ls and git and a few blog posts about colors. I
think, I will fix the problems in the weekend. That means: I wrote the
hole program again, it is not (really) possible the implement all the
features / fix all the bugs without that step.

* Package name: gotoblas2
  Version : 1.13
  Upstream Author : Emmanuel QUEMENER
* URL : http://www.tacc.utexas.edu/tacc-projects/gotoblas2/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : GotoBLAS2 is on of the fastest implementations of the Basic
Linear Algebra Subroutines.

The GotoBLAS codes are currently the fastest implementations of the Basic
Linear Algebra Subroutines (formelly BLAS). Actually, GOTO is the developer's
last name and does not mean "go to." (Nor is it pronounced "go to"; the
correct pronunciation is "goh-toe.")

The advantage is fast calculation. Note that the actual performance depends in
part on the code from which you call the GotoBLAS subroutine(s) and on the
combination of architecture and operating system under which you are running.
Your own tuning here can make a big difference.
