It wasn’t really meant as a joke, more as a camel’s back breaking with
this last straw. These metapackages are a continuous source of grievance
and bug reports. I can receive the same day reports from people saying
the metapackages are too heavy and others asking new dependencies to be
added. There’s no end to that madness.

I can only empathize with you.

Bug#608171: ITP: kmozillahelper -- Iceweasel-KDE integration

2010-12-28 Thread P. J. McDermott
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "P. J. McDermott"

* Package name: kmozillahelper
  Version : 0.6.2
  Upstream Author : Lubos Lunak
* URL :
https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=mozilla-kde4-integration&project=mozilla%3AFactory
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Iceweasel-KDE integration

This is an integration helper, designed to make Iceweasel work better in KDE
SC 4.

This application handles integration in the following areas:
* Getting proxy configuration
* Getting default applications by file extension, type, and protocol
* The "Open with:" dialog
* The file open dialog
* The file save dialog, with KIO network transparency
* The directory selection dialog
* Opening files with default applications
* Running applications
* Opening the default feed reader
* Opening the default mail client
* Opening the default news client
* Checking and setting the default web browser
* Showing KDE notifications on download completions

This helper application is developed for and shipped with the openSUSE
distribution. It is packaged for and included in Ubuntu. There is also a
package for it in the Arch User Repository and a Git repository to port it to
Fedora. This application appears to be the most complete, "correct", and
widely-supported solution to improving Mozilla Firefox's behavior in KDE.

Upstream development is visible at the following Git repository:
http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse

Status of this package:
I actually have the packaging work mostly done and lintian clean; it just needs
mentor review (as I'm not a DD or DM). However, a patch to Iceweasel (mostly
XUL and XPCOM shell service files to work with KDE "the right way") is necessary
for this package to work.

Bug#605256: stretchplayer ready for upload

2010-12-28 Thread Arnout Engelen
user pkg-multimedia-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org
usertags 605256 upload-requested
thanks

Hi,

I wanted to remind you that stretchplayer is, as far as I can see, ready for
upload.

As I didn't want to nag, but didn't want this package to be forgotten about
either, I talked to Reinhard on IRC about a way to keep track. Using usertags
to tag the (ITP) bugs seems like a reasonable approach. A report of tags can
be obtained by:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?users=pkg-multimedia-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org;tag=upload-requested

I'd say this tag could also be used on other bugs for which a fix is available
in our git.

If this seems like a good idea to you, too, I'll document this at the wiki.

Kind regards,

Arnout

... which is probably not going to happen any time soon. IMHO the best
option would be to package it as an extension, and make it work with
icedove, iceape and iceweasel. Making it a full fledged extension (which
is not impossible) would also make it work with upstream firefox tarballs.

I can give a hand if necessary, but I don't know if I'll have a lot of
time for it, though.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I'm admittedly not too familiar with the Mozilla codebase, so I don't
know if packaging this as an extension is possible. If so, then I would
agree that that would be better than patching mainline Iceweasel. I was
in fact planning to defer to your knowledge and judgment on this once I
got the package up on mentors.debian.net. Below is the Mozilla Firefox
patch in question, as applied by two distributions; if you have a
chance, can you let me know what the best way to include this would be
(extension or Iceweasel patch)?

openSUSE (upstream) patch, applied to Firefox 3.6.6:
http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse/firefox-kde-opensuse/blobs/master/mozilla.patch

Ubuntu patch, applied to Firefox 3.6.13:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mozillateam/firefox/firefox-3.6.head/annotate/head%3A/debian/patches/firefox-kde.patch

Also, it seems this helper application currently does not work with
other Mozilla applications. Because of this, the Ubuntu maintainer
renamed the binary package to firefox-kde-support in Ubuntu 10.10.

Any help you can provide with this would be appreciated. If you'd like
to see what I have so far (the package is built and lintian-clean, I
mainly just have to test it more), I can push the package to
mentors.d.n. Otherwise, I'll hold off for now.

Thanks,
P. J.

Hi everyone,

I'd like to (eventually) give away the Debian package of the gentoo file
manager to someone who uses it. I found that I stopped doing that :/

The packaging is mostly clean, as it's a fairly straightforward software
package these days.

(People who just want to maintain things without ever having used them need
not apply. People who saw the package name in the New Maintainers' Guide
and now think it'd be a cool thing if they had it, also need not apply.)

IIRC the patch lies in some bug against iceweasel/xulrunner at the
moment. I still think it's too intrusive and not implemented the right
way.

That doesn't make much sense. At the very least mime type handling
should work.

I'll check what hooks could be used to make that a full extension. The
xul/js part should already be feasible. The c++ parts are definitely
possible, but I don't know how much work would be required. If you don't
hear from me before, let's say, the end of january, please ping the
pkg-mozilla-maintainers list, CCing this bug.

Cheers,

Mike

Bug#469827: Already included in java-6-sun?

2010-12-28 Thread Arnout Engelen
Hello,

Does VisualVM work with any JVM, or only with the Sun JVM?

I think this software already comes with the sun-java6-jdk package. The
executable can be found in /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/bin/jvisualvm - but does
not appear to have been added to the PATH.

Perhaps this should be a bug report against sun-java6-jdk rather than a RFP?

True. The most trivial Firefox-specific code I found in the package was
the use of the "firefox" application icon in the about data (and I can't
see how that would be visible to the user anyway) and the application
name in the download complete notification. Other than that, I just see
isDefaultBrowser() and setDefaultBrowser() shell service methods that,
worst case, might have to be replaced in other Mozilla applications. If
you know the equivalents for the other applications, then I can
re-implement those methods when/if the time comes.

Sounds good, thanks.

To be honest, I'd love to see this make it into Debian because the
current state of Mozilla Firefox and KDE integration makes some things a
bit of a UI nightmare. There is no integration with a default
applications registry in KDE, so when trying to open a file a user is
dropped to a file picker. The average user wouldn't know to go to
/usr/bin and find, for example, okular to open a PDF file.

Anyway, thanks again for your insight in this matter,
P. J.

 This package provides a haskell interface to the C D-Bus library.

 D-Bus is a message bus, used for sending messages between applications.
 Conceptually, it fits somewhere between raw sockets and CORBA in terms
 of complexity. For more details on D-Bus, see the D-Bus wiki at

Bug#608224: ITP: haskell-dbus -- Haskell bindings for D-Bus API

2010-12-28 Thread Rafael Cunha de Almeida
Hello haskell people,

I needed this package for setting up xmonad with xmonad-log-panel.
Unfortunately, I didn't find it on debian. I've heard from other people
in #haskell @ freenode.com that they too needed the package for one
reason or another. So I wrote this ITP:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=608224

I have done the packaging, now I need to be added to dhg so I can

darcs put darcs.debian.org:/darcs/pkg-haskell/haskell-dbus

in order for you to review and upload it. I created an account at
alioth, my login is almeida-guest.

In retrospect I should have CCed to this list when I posted the ITP. So
I'm CCing the bug here.

BTW, I'm currently maintaining one package, if that's at all relevant:

http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=raf...@kontesti.me

[]'s
Rafael

Bug#608230: ITP: xmonad-log-applet -- GNOME panel applet that displays xmonad log messages using D-Bus

2010-12-28 Thread Rafael Cunha de Almeida
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Rafael Cunha de Almeida

* Package name: xmonad-log-applet
  Version : 1.0.2
  Upstream Author : Adam Wick
* URL : http://uhsure.com/xmonad-log-applet.html
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : GNOME panel applet that displays xmonad log messages
using D-Bus

 Xmonad is able to print status messages using D-Bus interface. This
 GNOME panel applet is able to display that information to the user. It
 is capable of displaying information such as window title and current
 workspace number.

I think it could be the case of this going to gnome-applets. The reason
I think it probably shouldn't go there is that this is a very specific
applet, for people who use gnome together with xmonad, instead of
metacity. So having it in gnome-applets would probably be confusing to
users not familiar with this sort of things.

Pod::2::DocBook is a module for translating Pod-formatted documents to
DocBook 4.2 SGML (see http://www.docbook.org/). It is primarily a back end
for pod2docbook, but, as a Pod::Parser subclass, it can be used on its own.

BTW, I prepared a preliminar package for python-antlr3.
You can test it, it is available at
http://alioth.debian.org/~nomadium-guest/debian/unstable/python-antlr3_3.1.3-1_all.deb.
Also you can review the source package:
http://alioth.debian.org/~nomadium-guest/debian/unstable/python-antlr3_3.1.3-1.dsc.

Hopefully, this will be available in Debian soon.

Cheers,

Bug#608238: RFA: checkinstall

2010-12-28 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I no longer have the time and interest to properly maintain this
package. It would be nice to find another maintainer for it.

Description: installation tracker
 CheckInstall keeps track of all the files created or
 modified by your installation script ("make install"
 "make install_modules", "setup", etc), builds a
 standard binary package and installs it in your
 system giving you the ability to uninstall it with your
 distribution's standard package management utilities.
