Bug#612694: ITP: scanmonitord -- scanner button daemon

2011-02-09 Thread Jakub Wilk

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jakub Wilk

* Package name: scanmonitord
  Version : 1.2.6
  Upstream Author : Simon Matter
* URL : http://www.invoca.ch/pub/packages/scanmonitord/
* License : GPLv2+
  Programming Lang: C, bash
  Description : scanner button daemon

Scanmonitord is a daemon which runs device monitors on one or more
devices. Every button or sensor event is then evaluated by user
generated action scripts which can itself call whatever system command
they want. For postprocessing scanned images, scanmonitord has the
ability to start image processing scripts as daemons which can automate
additional actions like OCR on scanned images by user defined scripts.

(The above description was copied verbatim from upstream README. The
actual package description will be likely different.)

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "Ian Maclaine-cross"

* Package name: ttm
  Version : 4.01
  Upstream Author : Ian Hutchinson
* URL : https://tth.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/tth/trunk
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: C, lex
  Description : TeX/LaTeX to MathML converter

LaTeX is popular for specifying complex printed documents. TtM
translates Plain TeX or LaTeX documents into MathML. It quickly
produces web documents that are compact, editable and fast viewing.
TtM translates almost all equations instead of converting them into
images. TtM is a sister to TtH in package tth which translates
TeX/LaTeX to HTML.

Both tth and ttm formerly had non-free licenses and complete source
code was unavailable. Version 4.01 was downloaded using:

 $ svn co https://tth.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/tth/trunk tth

and made into a tarball on 27th January 2011 at 0:40 UTC using:

 $ tar -cvzf tth_4.01.orig.tar.gz --exclude-vcs tth

by Ian Maclaine-cross . Two Debian packages are
being prepared from the GPL-2 tarball, a revised tth and a new
ttm.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Thea previous maintainer of libmatheval has orphaned this package.
If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Some information about this package:

Priority: optional
Section: libs
Source: libmatheval
Description: GNU library for evaluating symbolic mathematical expressions
(runtime)
 GNU libmatheval is library comprising several procedures that makes
 possible to create in-memory tree representation of mathematical
 functions over single or multiple variables and later use this
 representation to evaluate function for specified variable values, to
 create corresponding tree for function derivative over specified
 variable or to print textual representation of in-memory tree to
 specified string. The library supports arbitrary variable names in
 expressions, decimal constants, basic unary and binary operators and
 elementary mathematical functions.
 This package contains the runtime shared libraries.

The origin of that code seems to be
svn://svn.caucho.com/resin/tags/4.0.14/modules/jcr.
It is licensed under GPL-2+.
Is that possible even when the APIs released by Day Software are more
restrictive?

Uhmm, this took some time, sorry. I just looked by accident on the old bug
report and saw your message above.

Anyway, below is my original mail:

Hi Folkert,

I'm currently trying to package timer entropy daemon for Debian. I have
a question about the licensing. The included license.txt is the GPL2. Is
this to be understood as timer entropy daemon licensed under
"GPL2 only"
or as
"GPL2 (or any later version)"?

Both choices are fine, but I need to document which one it is. Please
indicate whether I can quote your answer publically.

Thanks
Thomas

Please keep the bug report CC'd. While I'm not sure about taking over
entropyd, I've been now 1-2 times in a situation where it would have
been very useful, so I may indeed take it over.

Thanks
Thomas

X-Debbugs-CC: debian-...@lists.debian.org

Package name: libtecla
Version : 1.6.1
Upstream Author : Martin C. Shepherd
URL : http://www.astro.caltech.edu/~mcs/tecla/
License : MIT
Programming Lang: C
Description : Tecla is a command-line editing library

The tecla library provides UNIX and LINUX programs with interactive command
line editing facilities, similar to those of the UNIX tcsh shell. In addition
to simple command-line editing, it supports recall of previously entered
command lines, TAB completion of file names or other tokens, and in-line
wild-card expansion of filenames. The internal functions which perform
file-name completion and wild-card expansion are also available externally for
optional use by programs.

In addition, the library includes a path-searching module. This allows an
application to provide completion and lookup of files located in UNIX style
paths. Although not built into the line editor by default, it can easily be
called from custom tab-completion callback functions. This was originally
conceived for completing the names of executables and providing a way to look
up their locations in the user's PATH environment variable, but it can easily
be asked to look up and complete other types of files in any list of
directories.

Note that special care has been taken to allow the use of this library in
threaded programs. The option to enable this is discussed in the Makefile, and
specific discussions of thread safety are presented in the included man pages.

Needed for bug #611927.

  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : DTI spatial normalization and atlas construction toolkit
 DTI-TK is a spatial normalization & atlas construction toolkit,
 designed from ground up to support the manipulation of
 diffusion-tensor images (DTI) with special cares taken to respect the
 tensorial nature of the data. It implements a state-of-the-art
 registration algorithm that drives the alignment of white matter (WM)
 tracts by matching the orientation of the underlying fiber bundle at
 each voxel. The algorithm has been shown to both improve WM tract
 alignment and to enhance the power of statistical inference in
 clinical settings. The key features include:
 .
  - NIfTI support for scalar, vector and DTI volumes
  - tool chains for manipulating DTI volumes: resampling, smoothing,
warping, registration & visualization
  - pipelines for WM morphometry: spatial normalization & atlas
construction for population-based studies
  - built-in cluster-computing support
  - interoperability with other major DTI tools: AFNI, Camino,
DTIStudio & FSL

 compare two XML files for equivalence. This is done while ignoring
 whitespace variations in the text as well as several permutations in
 the order of the tags.

Description: JACK audio recorder for spontaneous and conservatory use
 Timemachine writes the last 10 seconds of audio _before_ the button press
 and everything from now on up to the next button press into a WAV-file.
 .
 The idea is that you doodle away with whatever is kicking around in your
 studio and when you heard an interesting noise, you'd press record and
 capture it, without having to try and recreate it.
 .
 It uses the JACK audio connection kit, an API that lets audio application
 communicate with each other and share audio data in realtime.

Bug#612601: ITP: hiredis -- Minimalistic C client library for Redis

2011-02-09 Thread Alessandro Ghedini
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alessandro Ghedini

* Package name: hiredis
  Version : 0.9.2
  Upstream Author : Salvatore Sanfilippo
* URL : https://github.com/antirez/hiredis
* License : BSD-3-Clause
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Minimalistic C client for Redis

 Hiredis is a minimalistic C client library for the Redis database. It is
 minimalistic because it just adds minimal support for the protocol, but
 at the same time it uses an high level printf-alike API in order to make
 it much higher level than otherwise suggested by its minimal code base
 and the lack of explicit bindings for every Redis command.
 .
 Apart from supporting sending commands and receiving replies, it comes
 with a reply parser that is decoupled from the I/O layer. It is a stream
 parser designed for easy reusability, which can for instance be used in
 higher level language bindings for efficient reply parsing.
 .
 Hiredis only supports the binary-safe Redis protocol, so you can use it
 with any Redis version >= 1.2.0.
 .
 The library comes with multiple APIs. There is the synchronous API, the
 asynchronous API and the reply parsing API.

I completely agree. At the very least, there will be libudt and
libudt-dev packages. If the convention is to add a 'net', I will
include that as well. Initially I thought that libudt and libudt-dev
would make the most sense.

Description: Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator
 Mame is an arcade machine emulator: it includes a Z80, 6502 and
 lastly I86 uP emulators, joined to several arcade machine hardware
 emulators. Each arcade emulator contains a full description about
 hardware, mem maps, video, sounds and so, making possible that if
 you have original ROM images of a supported arcade game, you can
 play the game.
 .
 You NEED the rom images to play a game: this is not a game
 emulator, just an arcade machine one.
 .
 This package provides files common to all versions of the emulator.
 To get the actual emulator, install one or more of
 xmame-x, xmame-svga or xmame-sdl.

Hmmm, we should have a "forgotten" tag somewhere in the BTS...

I'm adding this to my TODO pile. I will inject the package in the
pkg-fonts SVN and set the team as maintainer. Please ping us in one
year if nothing happened..:-)

Thanks for the prodding, Moritz.
