The tarball is still missing for some critical things. For example there is no source code for _librsync.so, and librsync is LGPL licensed. So we are still not able to distribute the package in Debian's infrastructure legally. -- Regards, Aron Xu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#613788: ITP: dropbox -- secure backup, sync and sharing util
On Thu, Feb 17, 2011 at 18:11, Vincent Cheng vincentc1...@gmail.com wrote: The former Dropbox maintainer's sponsor has suggested to me that instead of including _librsync.so itself in the source tarball, that I simply include rsync as a build dependency and during the build process, create a symlink to librsync.so from Debian's own rsync package, to whatever directory Dropbox is installed in. I could also do this for any libraries that are already present in Debian's repositories (i.e. use symlinks instead of actually including the library in the tarball). After doing so, would I still have to include source code for rsync inside the Dropbox package? Vincent That would be okay on LGPL/MIT-style licensed libraries, but you still need to audit all files provided in the tarball if there are problems and make sure the package works as usual after applying the trick. Then you'd better make a source tarball that removed those non-distributable files -- Regards, Aron Xu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#613806: ITP: mplayer2 -- next generation movie player for Unix-like systems
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Reinhard Tartler siret...@tauware.de * Package name: mplayer2 Version : 2.0beta1 Upstream Author : Uoti Urpala uoti.urp...@pp1.inet.fi * URL : http://www.mplayer2.org/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: C Description : next generation movie player for Unix-like systems MPlayer plays most MPEG, VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, FLI, RM, NuppelVideo, yuv4mpeg, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, RealPlayer, and Win32 DLL codecs. It can also play VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, RealMedia, and DivX movies. Another big feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, DirectFB, but also SDL (plus all its drivers) and some low level card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and Radeon, Mach64 and Permedia3). Most of them support software or hardware scaling, therefore allowing fullscreen display. MPlayer is also able to use some hardware MPEG decoder boards, such as the DVB and DXR3/Hollywood+. The text above is copied from the existing mplayer package. It is basically a well-known and quite popular fork of mplayer. TBH, I'm a bit unsure what to do with it. From the first look, it seems that mplayer2 is better suited for being included in a distro release, but not (yet) in its current form. Currently, it includes a copy of ffmpeg-mt, a well-known fork of the ffmpeg package, which features multithreaded h264 decoding and actually is already in debian as part of the chromium-browser package. While ffmpeg-mt is currently being integrated/merged into ffmpeg upstream, mplayer2's future is not that certain. Having this in mind, I intend to maintain the package under the pkg-multimedia umbrella. mplayer2 shoudl go to experimental for now, including ffmpeg-mt. Bug#613805: RFP: nfs-ganesha -- NFS server running in User Space
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: nfs-ganesha * URL : http://nfs-ganesha.sourceforge.net/ * License : LGPL Programming Lang: C Description : NFS server running in User Space NFS-GANESHA is a NFS server running in User Space. It is available under the LGPL license. It has been designed to meet two goals: * providing very large metadata and data caches (up to millions of records) * providing NFS exports to various files systems and namespaces (a set of data organized as trees, with a structure similar to a files system) NFS-GANESHA uses dedicated backend modules called FSAL (which stand for File System Abstraction Layer) that provided the product with a unique API (used internally) to access the underlying namespace. The FSAL module is basically the glue between the namespace and the other part of NFS-GANESHA Available FSALs are: * FSAL/XFS : provides NFS frontend to XFS filesystems * FSAL/ZFS : provides with a way to export ZFS's pool with NFS-GANESHA * FSAL/LUSTRE : provides NFS frontend to LUSTRE filesystems (Lustre 2 or higher is required for this FSAL) * FSAL/PROXY: the module is in fact a NFSv4 client. Used with NFS-GANESHA, it turns the NFS server into a NFS proxy server. This module is still in its alpha version * FSAL/FUSELIKE: many product use FUSE to have NFS export. Often they resided in the user space. NFS-GANESHA is in user space too, and via this module it allow user space product to have NFS export from user space, without explicit kernel communication. The module use the same interface as the classical fuse binding: if your application have a fuse binding module ready, you'll need nothing else to interface it with NFS-GANESHA. For this specific use, the NFS-GANESHA's engine is wrap in a library to be use and compile with your proprieritary application. * FSAL/SNMP: information available via SNMP are organized as trees, they constitute a namespace. This backend module provides with the capability to export SNMP information data via NFS and browse them in a procfs-like way. * FSAL/POSIX: this module is based on the well known POSIX API which is included in the LibC. It allows NFS export for anything accessible via the POSIX interface. POSIX API addresses files and directories by their names (which are volatile identifiers, they may change if object is renamed). FSAL API uses persistent, opaque, unique identifier called handles. Because a this, FSAL/POSIX use the service of a PostGresQL database to perform reverse lookup from handle to filename. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. It combines the high-level modeling capacities of answer set programming (ASP) with state-of-the-art techniques from the area of Boolean constraint solving. The primary clasp algorithm relies on conflict-driven nogood learning, a technique that proved very successful for satisfiability checking (SAT). Unlike other learning ASP solvers, clasp does not rely on legacy software, such as a SAT solver or any other existing ASP solver. Rather, clasp has been genuinely developed for answer set solving based on conflict-driven nogood learning. clasp can be applied as an ASP solver (on SMODELS format, as output by Gringo), as a SAT solver (on a simplified version of DIMACS/CNF format), or as a PB solver (on OPB format). ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: clasp Source-Version: 1.3.6-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of clasp, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: clasp_1.3.6-3.debian.tar.gz to main/c/clasp/clasp_1.3.6-3.debian.tar.gz clasp_1.3.6-3.dsc to main/c/clasp/clasp_1.3.6-3.dsc clasp_1.3.6-3_amd64.deb to main/c/clasp/clasp_1.3.6-3_amd64.deb clasp_1.3.6.orig.tar.gz to main/c/clasp/clasp_1.3.6.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#607924: Power management
On Dec 16 2010, Phillip Susi wrote: Powernowd used to accomplish the same thing as ACPI P-states by directly manipulating the amd k8 cpu registers. No, it doesn't. It is just a userspace governor and, despite the name, it is not tied to AMD cpus. The kernel now has drivers to perform frequency control using either ACPI, or the amd or intel cpu specific registers. Unless you happen to have a CPU (Intel, BTW) that can only have its frequency scaled using something other than ondemand/conservative in their stock form and you have to use the P4 clock modulation. I have some patches to the ondemand cpufreq regulator, but it will need a lot of fine tuning to make ondemand work (if at all). OTOH, using powernowd usually works OK for my computer. And I am not even talking about some other architectures (e.g., PowerPC) where there is some support for frequency scaling, but where there is no ACPI. See http://bugs.debian.org/609638 for instance. I think that I may not (yet) be willing to adopt it, but I am sure willing to co-maintain it or make the occasional QA upload from time to time, so that I can keep things in shape and close some of the most pressing bugs.
