Bug#592218: Maven3 packaging status ?

2011-05-20 Thread Ludovic Claude

Hello,

I have created a team of people interested in packagin Maven 3 on Launchpad:
https://launchpad.net/~maven3-debian-packagers
Currently, the team is not really active, and I've been overwhelmed with
work lately, but there is a good deal of work in progress however.

I have updated this wiki page as well: https://wiki.debian.org/Java/Maven3

There is an important piece of work to complete before throwing our
efforts into packaging: we should work on maven-debian-helper and in
particular make the mh_make tool more robust and able to work on all
kind of Maven projects, after this work packaging will be much more
pleasant and quick. I want also to switch to using dh 7 instead of cdbs
when building Maven packages, as dh 7 has lots of traction and it's
faster and easier to debug than cdbs.

* Package name: liblwp-protocol-https-perl
  Version : 6.02
  Upstream Author : Gisle Aas
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/LWP-Protocol-https/
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : https driver for LWP::UserAgent

The LWP::Protocol::https module provide support for using https schemed URLs
with LWP. LWP::Protocol::https is a plug-in to the LWP protocol handling, so
you don't use it directly. Once the module is installed LWP is able to
access

sites using HTTP over SSL/TLS.

If hostname verification is requested by LWP::UserAgent's ssl_opts, and
neither SSL_ca_file nor SSL_ca_path is set, then SSL_ca_file is implied
to be

the one provided by Mozilla::CA. If the Mozilla::CA module isn't available
SSL requests will fail. Either install this module, set up an alternative
SSL_ca_file or disable hostname verification.

This module used to be bundled with the libwww-perl, but it was unbundled in
v6.02 in order to be able to declare its dependencies properly for the CPAN
tool-chain. Applications that need https support can just declare their
dependency on LWP::Protocol::https and will no longer need to know what
underlying modules to install.

I request an adopter for the pkspxy package.

The package description is:
 This package implements a caching proxy to be used between any
 program which speaks the HKP protocol for PGP public key exchange,
 and any HKP-capable key server (this will probably be pks).

I personally do no longer use this package, because I have a fixed
Internet connection for some years now, so I do not need a caching
proxy. Anyway, according to popcon there is a hand full of active
users of this package, so I do not want to remove the package from the
distribution.

The package does not have any open bug reports and I just uploaded
version 0.5-9 which solves all lintian warnings that arrived since the
last (2 year old) release 0.5-8.

  Description : verify HTTPS sites through notary servers

  Perspectives is an approach to help clients securely identify Internet servers
  in order to avoid "man-in-the-middle" attacks, by querying "network notaries"
  located in multiple vantage points across the Internet.
  .
  This extension enables bypassing HTTPS security warnings when appropriate.

perspectives uses multiple network notary servers to track sites over time and
from different networks to establish additional information about the
consistancy of certificates presented to the browser, and can be used to
override security exceptions in some cases.

projects such as monkeysphere allow somewhat similar functionality, although
monkeysphere requires the user to be well connected in the GPG web of trust in
order to be useful, whereas perspectives uses trusted notaries which require
little to no configuration to the end user.

i'd like to package the firefox extension which seems to be straightforward,
and eventually the notary servers as well.

live well,

  Description : Iceweasel/Firefox extension to prevent man-in-the-middle
attacks

Perspectives is a new approach to help clients securely identify
Internet servers in order to avoid "man-in-the-middle" attacks.
Perspectives is simple and cheap compared to existing approaches because
it automatically builds a robust database of network identities using
lightweight network probing by "network notaries" located in multiple
vantage points across the Internet.

This package is an extension to Iceweasel/Firefox browser that contacts
network notaries whenever your browser connects an HTTPS website.

  Description : A command-line program to apply LV2 effects to files

lv2file is a simple program which you can use to apply LV2 effects to your
 audio files without much hassle.
 Possible use cases of lv2file are:
 * You want to apply an effect without having to open a GUI or start
   a project.
 * You want to apply effects to a large number of files, or in an
   automated manner.
 * You need a deterministic environment to debug a plugin you are developing.
 * You want your audio tools to be command line only.

 lv2file does not come with any built-in effects, so you must install other
 packages containing LV2 plugins to use with lv2file.

 Greetings, Linux user. I see you can open and read text files. You're
 quite the computer expert, aren't you? Ace. With a spot of luck, then,
 you may also happen to be quite proficient at a game called Out Of Order.
 And, as good fortune would have it, that game should be provided in the
 same packagey bundle as this text file. Or vice versa, depending on point
 of view. My point is this: Out Of Order is a comedy sci-fi adventure game,
 set somewhere in some time period, featuring a guy in silly slippers and
 written originally for Windows. Or, rather, it was originally written for
 the freeware SLUDGE adventure game engine back in the day when there was
 only a Windows version. However, the times are very much a-changin' and
 the engine has since been ported to other platforms. Hooray for people
 with more time on their hands than myself! I admire and adore them all.
 As should you, because without them you'd not be able to play this fine
 game on your non-Windows machine. Hang on, was that actually my point?
 No, wait. THIS was my point: the initial distribution of Out Of Order
 contained the Windows engine. But I hereby give permission for you to
 possess a copy of the data file and a copy of the engine for another
 operating system of your choosing and experience the joys of the former
 via the modern miracle of the latter. But please - don't charge for it.
 And don't break the package apart and distribute bits of it individually.
 And don't try to reverse engineer it. And don't prod and poke at it with a
 HEX editor to make the characters say rude things about people you know,
 or to make it look like you wrote it. Just play it and love it and get in
 a grump with it when you can't get past some part of it. On which topic, a
 few hints for those who've read this far: everyone else's is on the
 outside of their door, read it out loud, and try using thing A in thing B
 in thing C, not just thing A in thing C. (Sorry about that third one.)
 .
 - Tim Furnish, June 2010
Comment:
 While the license text does not explicitly mention redistribution, Tim
 Furnish wrote in the same mail to me (Tobias Hansen) that also contained
 the license:
 .
 "Sore, by all means make the existing OOO data file available for Linux
 - with the engine if that's what you're suggesting. I must admit, despite
 having used Linux on and off for over 10 years, I've never packaged
 anything up for it for distribution so don't really have that much of a
 clue about what's involved. But yeah, go for it. The data file's freely
 distributable at the moment as part of the installer... so I guess there's
 no harm whatsoever in make it available outside of it."

Zfec is a high performance Reed-Solomon erasure coding tool. It is
sponsored by a small start-up company which releases all of their
source code under Free Software licences, with help from random
contributors around the 'Net. It is written in C and comes with C,
Python, and Haskell APIs as well as a command-line tool. The core
erasure code implementation is copied from Luigi Rizzo's long-
standing "fec" library [1] and simplified and optimized.

  Description : a deprecated Perl code profier

The Devel::DProf package is a Perl code profiler. This will collect
information on the execution time of a Perl script and of the subs in
that script. This information can be used to determine which subroutines
are using the most time and which subroutines are being called most often.
This information can also be used to create an execution graph of the
script, showing subroutine relationships.

Devel::DProf is deprecated. It is recommended that you install and use
Devel::NYTProf (in the package libdevel-nytprof-perl) instead, as it
offers significantly improved profiling and reporting.

  Description : Python debug tracing helper

 Provides the Python library 'tracing' to help with logging debug messages.
 This module provides a couple of functions for logging debug messages.
 It is sometimes practical to add a lot of debugging log messages to a
 program, but having them enabled all the time results in very large
 log files. Also, logging that much takes quite a bit of time.
 .
 This module provides a way to turn such debugging or tracing messages
 on and off, based on the filename they occur in.

(Preliminary package at http://code.liw.fi/debian/pool/main/p/python-tracing/,
but it needs cleaning up before an actual upload.)

   Package name: haskell-blaze-html
Version: 0.4.1.1
Upstream Author: Jasper Van der Jeugt
URL: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/blaze-html
License: BSD
Description: HTML combinator library for Haskell
With this Haskell library you can easily produce HTML code without
having to explicitly write tags and attributes, but just combining the
operators exposed by this library. It can outputs HTML 4 Strict,
Transitional and Frameset, as well as HTML 5 code.

Rationale: this is a dependency for the new version of
haskell-happstack-server.

Bug#623790: (no subject)

2011-05-20 Thread Jonathan Carter (highvoltage)
Some dependencies required (available in Ubuntu and builds fine):

 * language-selector-common
  * gir1.2-vte-0.0
 * archdetect-deb
 * apt-clone

There's a depencency on ubiquity-casper, not sure how necessary it is.
It depends on plymouth and upstart bits that are uninstallable.

Bug#626837: RFP: libsys-mmap-perl

2011-05-20 Thread Fabrizio Regalli
Hi Vagrant,

I would like to help you with this package (especially because it blocks
your zoneminder package) but not yet an expert in Debian's world and
this will be my first *perl* package. (A good opportunity to learn)
However, I'll do my best for packaging it.

Cheers,
Fabrizio.

p.s. I'm not a DD so, in case package will be in a good shape, I need
your support for upload it.

It isn't always very straightforward to update lexers using flex-old to
use newer flex, and such software is still alive even if flex-old is
something like 15 years old...

I intend to maintain flex-old still some time in Debian.

Bug#627391: ITP: prank -- The Probabilistic Alignment Kit for biological sequences

2011-05-20 Thread Manuel Prinz
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Manuel Prinz

* Package name: prank
  Version : 100802
  Upstream Author : Ari Loytynoja
* URL : http://www.ebi.ac.uk/goldman-srv/prank/src/prank/
* License : GPL2+
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Probabilistic Alignment Kit for biological sequences

 PRANK is a probabilistic multiple alignment program for DNA, codon and
 amino-acid sequences. It's based on a novel algorithm that treats insertions
 correctly and avoids over-estimation of the number of deletion events.
 .
 In addition, PRANK borrows ideas from maximum likelihood methods used in
 phylogenetics and correctly takes into account the evolutionary distances
 between sequences. Lastly, PRANK allows for defining a potential structure
 for sequences to be aligned and then, simultaneously with the alignment,
 predicts the locations of structural units in the sequences.

The package was prepared during the Debian Med meeting in Travemünde and is
mostly ready for uploading to the archive.
