Bug#634243: RFP: gptfdisk -- GUID (Globally Unique Identifier)/GPT partitioning tools
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: gptfdisk Version : 0.7.2 Upstream Author : Rod Smith rodsm...@rodsbooks.com * URL : http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/ * License : GPL Programming Lang: C++ Description : GUID (Globally Unique Identifier)/GPT partitioning tools GPT fdisk (consisting of the gdisk, sgdisk, and fixparts programs) is a set of text-mode partitioning tools for Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, and Windows. The gdisk and sgdisk programs work on Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) Partition Table (GPT) disks, rather than on the more common (through 2011) Master Boot Record (MBR) partition tables. The fixparts program repairs certain types of damage to MBR disks and enables changing partition types from primary to logical and vice-versa. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi, Being a long time user of arpwatch I've stumbled upon this one. [...] Current arpwatch maintainer will be in the Uploaders field as per http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2007/09/msg00037.html together with Anibal. Both are Cc:ed on this ITP. [...] Description : Ethernet/FDDI station activity monitor, based on arpwatch Description: Ethernet/FDDI station activity monitor Arpwatch-ng contains arpwatch and arpsnmp. Both utilities monitor Ethernet or FDDI network traffic and build databases of Ethernet/IP address pairs, and can report certain changes. It is based upon the original arpwatch package, improving its behaviour on 64bits hosts. [...] Two things worry me here: 1. Quoting Aníbal from the message the URL of which you gave above: Yes, I've been aware of arpwatch-ng and was thinking about changing arpwatch upstream soruce to arpwatch-ng's. Why isn't this approach being pursued? 2. The description a) seems to indicate that arpwatch-ng just has a few 64bit patches that were best integrated into arpwatch anyhow; b) makes me simply wonder what improving means, as I'm running it on 64bit systems just fine!? Bug#633795: ITP: evolution-tray -- Plugin for Evolution to put it in notification area
Seriously, how useful is that? Why would you do that for evolution and not for other windows, anyway? There is another tool, alltray, which is for moving to tray just about anything. This is a different thing - a native way for Evolution to support the notification area. You can make a picture of its demand by quick googling: http://google.com/search?q=evolution+in+tray There is different solutions, and I think a plugin is most clear way. Bug#634262: ITP: arpwatch-ng -- Ethernet/FDDI station activity monitor, based on arpwatch
Hi again, [...] Because he has had three NMU's, his last upload was on 2004 and I have got no reply from him since I pinged him and Anibal about a month ago. I just don't want to step on his toes. It would be a takeover, and he just asked to be in the Uploaders field for arpwatch-ng. From http://lists.debian.org/debian-qa/2007/09/msg00037.html I'd deduce that Peter asked to be in Uploaders for *arpwatch*, not necessarily -ng. But then you might also have further information, going beyond that list post. Besides that, `mia-query fuji` doesn't look too promising. [...] (detailed info about patches) Not only 64bits users will benefit from these changes. And yes, I do have hundreds of installs on 64bits that do segfault with vanilla arpwatch, so I can confirm it does. In short, I don't care that much about how to fix this, but I want it fixed and without getting in arpwatch's maintainer's way. I do agree that getting this fixed is very important. But naive as I am, I'd also like to see the following QA issues to be considered in the process: - With arpwatch-ng with get a fresh package in the archive, but arpwatch itself will continue a shadowy existence. With fuji being apparently MIA, neither users nor the maintainer will take care of it. Bit rot. - Please try to find a wording for the description that helps users to choose between arpwatch and arpwatch-ng. Something along the lines of This version is a superior re-implementation of arpwatch. Basically also arpwatch should see an NMU that changes the description to This version of arpwatch is deprecated. Please install arpwatch-ng instead. - It would be nice if existing installations of arpwatch could benefit from arpwatch-ng entering the archive. This isn't necessarily the case with a new source package being uploaded in parallel to the existing one. Please understand that I do highly appreciate your efforts, I'm only in pursuit of the (in my own naive understanding) best possible solution for our users. But all libraries depend on each other, so I currently have one package for them: Package: tegra-libraries Provides: libegl1-tegra, libgles1-tegra, libgles2-tegra The glx-alternatives package also diverts libGL and libglx and from what I gathered all vendor libs seem to provide libegl1, libgles1 and libgles2 alltogether (at least for tegra, omap3 and omap4). I would guess systems only supporting GL ES 1are rare these days and won't get new Debian support in the future. Looking at fglrx the one-package style also seems to be normal, i.e. they have fglrx-driver which contains the xorg-driver and fglrx-glx which provides libgl and libglx via the glx-alternatives mechanism. In the mean-time, while you're discussing, should I upload a package that simply diverts the library (It's almost finished now)? As this was the way the fglrx and nvidia drivers handled this it until some weeks ago I would say - go ahead :-) From what I gathered, the glx-alternatives mechanism is more a means to support switching between differend implementations without having to hard- remove the relevant packages and let different vendor implementations play nice together on the same filesystem. The focus is on clear, easy-to-perceive letterforms that will not be easily confused with one another. A sans serif font is preferred by some literacy personnel for teaching people to read. Its forms are simpler and less cluttered than some serif fonts can be. For years, literacy workers have had to make do with fonts that were available but not really suitable for beginning readers and writers. In some cases, literacy specialists have had to tediously cobble together letters from a variety of fonts in order to get the all of characters they need for their particular language project, resulting in confusing and unattractive publications. Andika addresses those issues. After receiving many insightful comments on the Design Review and Basic fonts, Andika's final letterforms have been refined with alternate shapes still available for some characters. This font now contains the same character set as Charis SIL and Doulos SIL. It provides OpenType and Graphite features like smart code for diacritic placement. It supports recent additions to Unicode and the SIL PUA, and character assignments are updated to conform to Unicode 5.1 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#540362: O: xfs -- X font server
On Fri, Aug 07, 2009 at 03:58:50PM +0200, Julien Cristau wrote: Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hi, The X Strike Force would like to get rid of xfs; it's not needed in most (all?) use cases, since most X clients now use Xft and/or pango to render text, not core X fonts (even emacs, these days! :)) So xfs wants to either get removed or get a new maintainer. Maybe LTSP people, if they still use this? Adding LTSP maintainers to CC; is xfs (the font server, not the filesystem) still in use in LTSP? If you, can you take over the maintenance? Bug#621480: Uploading in spite of manpage problems
This is a message to whoever sees the package in NEW, or anyone else who wants to know why I'm uploading a package with a lintian error in it. There are two problems with the generated manual pages in libshevek-doc: - There is no short description for any of them. - backslashes in the code are not properly escaped. Both problems seem to be caused by doxygen. I've reported the issues there[1][2]. Since I want the library to be in Debian (for use with other programs), and these are only minor issues, I'm uploading the package anyway, so it can sit in the NEW queue. These issues will be fixed later (either by me or the doxygen people). Bug#361954: new Alioth project, mail list, git repository irc channel
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA256 Hi folks, it's a pleasure to announce that thanks to Javier Fernández-Sanguino we have recently created an Alioth project called *pkg-ossec* [1] to track the Ossec's packaging process. There we have a git repository and a mail list for development purposes [2] where you can track and discuss the recent and forthcoming commits. We have created an irc channel at irc.debian.org called #pkg-ossec. And please, take a look at [3] if you want more information about how to contribute to this project as it contains most of the policy we'll use to handle the code. Thanks for all your contributions. See you there, [1] https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-ossec/ [2] https://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-ossec-devel [3] http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/notes/debian/git.html On 22/03/11 23:38, Jose Antonio Quevedo wrote: Hi folks, this package have been stuck while we were waitting for the OpenSSL exception to be added to the Ossec's legal code. Today this exception haven't been added, but Daniel Cid (upstream) wants to keep his code as GPL, so we can continue working hoping to solve the OpenSSL issue later. There are two ways to avoid the OpenSSL exception: disabling OpenSSL or migrate the code from OpenSSL to GNU/TLS. Now we already know, thanks to Javier Fernandez-Sanguino, that we can disable OpenSSL and make it work pretty easily. But the other question would be, what do you think about the impact of disabling openssl on Ossec? OpenSSL has some interesting features that should be considered. We can disable OpenSSL and make it work, but doing this we could be releasing a dangerous software, so IMHO it would be quite interesting to have an OpenSSL-2-GNUTLS.patch. Now I'm looking for the way to publish the source code of this package as it's developed. Maybe you already know a good place to do this and would like to share? Then please, let us know. I'm thinking in a git repository. Happy hacking, 2011/3/1 Ciarán Handley cia...@linux.ie mailto:cia...@linux.ie Jose, Are you having discussions about this with the developer outside of their mailing lists? From what I found on the different lists at http://www.ossec.net/main/support/ there haven't been any updates since '09. It seems to me that for them to add exception/s is a trivial change. Why is this taking so long? What can we do to speed this up a bit? I took the liberty of making the 'suggestion' on their request page (http://ossec.uservoice.com/forums/18254-general/suggestions/1543503-debian-package), if people would like to vote it up.
