Bug#635884: RFP: CmdLauncher -- launch a command line program in a graphical interface

2011-07-29 Thread H Xu

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

The project is aimed at helping people launch a command in a graphical
way. Command line tools are powerful, but some people, especially those
who are not computer experts, are unwilling to use command line tools
because they need to memorize many things to type a command. But
CmdLauncher provide a simple way for developers to make their console
programs launch by selecting one from the list, or choosing a file, or
something else which could be done easily by people who are not experts.
What the command line program developers need to do is to write a simple
ini format file containing information of their command line programs,
which will be read by CmdLauncher.

The license is GPL v3.

IRSIM is a tool for simulating digital circuits. It is a switch-level
simulator; that is, it treats transistors as ideal switches. Extracted
capacitance and lumped resistance values are used to make the switch a
little bit more realistic than the ideal, using the RC time constants to
predict the relative timing of events.

Bug#635891: Copyright and licensing information for Pika

2011-07-29 Thread Gavin M. Roy
Assuming you're like to start with 0.9.5, I'd suggest we make the changes to
the files and release a 0.9.5r1 based off the 0.9.5 tag.

Let me know if Marek's proposed changes are satisfactory or even necessary. I
don't think adding the copyright holders to COPYING creates an issue, however I
don't see the value.

Debian has approved the MPL in its current form with that verbiage AFAIK:

Description:

Annapurna SIL is a TrueType font with smart font capabilities added
using OpenType and Graphite font technologies. This means that complex
typographic issues such as the placement of combining marks or the
formation of ligatures are handled by the font, provided you are running
an application that provides an adequate level of support for one of
these smart font technologies.

These fonts are named after the majestic Annapurna mountain range of
Nepal. The goal is to provide a Unicode-based font family with support
for the many diverse languages that use Devanagari script to produce
readable, high-quality publications.

The design is intended to be highly readable, reasonably compact, and
visually attractive.

Annapurna SIL has a calligraphic design that reflects the stroke
contrast of writing the characters with a broad nib used for Devanagari.

This package includes formats and templates for usage on the web.

Bug#635891: Copyright and licensing information for Pika

2011-07-29 Thread Jan Dittberner
Hello,

I'd like to package Pika for Debian. The associated ITP (intend to
package) bug in the Debian bug tracking system is [1].

I started work on the package but started to worry when I tried to
create a proper debian/copyright file from the license information
included in the Pika source tarball and github repository.

The Pika web site states that Pika is dual licensed as MPLv1.1 and
GPLv2.0 which both are acceptable free software licenses. What made
me worry are two things:

- a missing declaration of copyright holders with copyright years in
  the COPYING file

- the statement All rights reserved. at the end of LICENSE-MPL-Pika
that is normally used in proprietary license/copyright texts only

I would like to get a clarification from you idealy a list of
copyright holders with years like:

 Copyright (C) 20xx Author A
 Copyright (C) 20xy Company B
 ...

it would also be great if the All rights reserved. statement could
be removed or its meaning could be explained in detail so that Pika
can be included in the Debian main archive.

Bug#602723: ffgtk: changing back from ITP to RFP

2011-07-29 Thread Wolfgang Schnitker
Hi,

I do not want to become a package maintainer, I proposed this software
to become available in debian.

If someone wants to adopt it, it would be very nice.

 Hi,

This is an automatic email to change the status of ffgtk back from ITP
(Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug hasn't seen
any activity during the last 6 months.

If you are still interested in adopting ffgtk, please send a mail to
 cont...@bugs.debian.org with:

retitle 602723 ITP: ffgtk -- ffgtk is a solution for controlling the

However, it is not recommended to keep ITP for a long time without acting on
the package, as it might cause other prospective maintainers to refrain from
packaging that software. It is also a good idea to document your progress on
this ITP from time to time, by mailing 602...@bugs.debian.org.

Thank you for your interest in Debian,

retitle 584073 ITP: sogo -- a modern and scalable groupware

I started working on packaging SOPE and SOGo a few months ago and I
made of lot of progress during debcamp/debconf. You can find the
current state on launchpad:

https://code.launchpad.net/~dekkers/sope/sope-debian
https://code.launchpad.net/~dekkers/sogo/sogo-debian

Note that this is a work in progress and might be broken from time to
time as I'm not doing rigorous testing before committing things at the
moment. There are still a few issues left, such as decoupling the
embedded javascripts libraries and linking SOGo to GnuTLS instead of
OpenSSL (I already ported SOPE to GnuTLS and that patch has been
accepted upstream).

Bug#635956: ITP: lxpolkit -- LXDE PolicyKit authentication agent

Description : LXDE PolicyKit authentication agent

LXPolkit is a simple PolicyKit authentication agent than policykit-gnome.

With LXPolkit, there are now 4 different policykit authentication agents:
- policykit-1-gnome (targetted at GNOME 2 / GNOME 3 fallback mode)
- gnome-shell (GNOME 3 [1])
- polkit-kde-1 (KDE 4)
- LXPolkit (LXDE)

There are already quite a few applications (mostly GNOME based) which depend on
an explicit policykit authentication agent implementation (namely
policykit-1-gnome)

Imho it would make sense to introduce a new virtual package name (e.g
policykit-authentication-agent-1) that is provided by the packages I named
above.

The desktop meta packages, like kdebase-workspace or gnome, would depend on a
specific implementation.
Invididual applications should depend on the virtual package.

Thoughts, comments?

Michael

NDPMon, IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Protocol Monitor, is a tool working with ICMPv6

I have less time for packaging work these days, especially for packages
I have no personal or work connection to. Therefore, I am orphaning
djblets.

Even though I have some time available at Debconf, I'm orphaning this
now so that the adopter can use the Debconf time instead going forward.

This package was uploaded as dependency for reviewboard; it would seem
sensible that an adopter interested in one should also take the other.

Hi,

I believe I'm just getting in the way of jenkins actually making it
into Debian - I've been sitting on the ITP for over a year without
actually making any progress. Mea culpa. Hopefully the Java team
will sponsor James's packages.

* Package name: libdata-uuid-perl

Upstream Author : Ricardo Signes rjbs[at]cpan.org
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Data-UUID/
* License : BSD-like
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl module for generating UUIDs

Data::UUID provides a framework for generating v3 UUIDs (Universally Unique
Identifiers, also known as GUIDs (Globally Unique Identifiers). A UUID is 128
bits long, and is guaranteed to be different from all other UUIDs/GUIDs
 generated until 3400 CE.
 .
The algorithm for UUID generation, used by this extension, is described in
the Internet Draft UUIDs and GUIDs by Paul J. Leach and Rich Salz. (See RFC
4122.) It provides reasonably efficient and reliable framework for generating
UUIDs and supports fairly high allocation rates -- 10 million per second per
machine -- and therefore is suitable for identifying both extremely
short-lived and very persistent objects on a given system as well as across
 the network.

(end of description)

libossp-uuid-perl already provides a version of Data::UUID, but it differs from
the real Data::UUID in subtle ways. Since the ITP for that package [0] was
filed, Data::UUID upstream added a license file (Nov 2008).

I no longer intend to package Data::UUID.

After filing the ITP, I found a symlink vulnerability which is quite
difficult (for me) to fix - it turns out that Data::UUID does not work
well on multi-user systems, because the first user will grab the
global state files in /tmp:
https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=69277

Instead, I filed and fixed the bug in ossp-uuid that was stopping
Data::GUID compiling:

Bug#635891: Copyright and licensing information for Pika

2011-07-29 Thread Jan Dittberner
On Fri, Jul 29, 2011 at 03:17:22PM +0100, Marek Majkowski wrote:

I'd like to package Pika for Debian. The associated ITP (intend to
package) bug in the Debian bug tracking system is [1].

 Great news!

 (I CC Gavin, the maintainer)

The Pika web site states that Pika is dual licensed as MPLv1.1 and
GPLv2.0 which both are acceptable free software licenses. What made
  me worry are two things:

  - a missing declaration of copyright holders with copyright years in
the COPYING file

We could copy the copyright holders from LICENSE-MPL-Pika to COPYING,
though we will end up in the same stuff in two places.

  - the statement All rights reserved. at the end of LICENSE-MPL-Pika
that is normally used in proprietary license/copyright texts only

This is taken from the MPL template.

ok, I've searched the debian-legal archives and came to the same
conclusion. I think it is not necessary to change anything for the
current version. I will copy the copyright holder section from the MPL
text.

Assuming you're like to start with 0.9.5, I'd suggest we make the changes
to the files and release a 0.9.5r1 based off the 0.9.5 tag.
Let me know if Marek's proposed changes are satisfactory or even
necessary. I don't think adding the copyright holders to COPYING creates
an issue, however I don't see the value.
Debian has approved the MPL in its current form with that verbiage AFAIK:
http://wiki.debian.org/DFSGLicenses#MozillaPublicLicense.28MPL.29
Gavin

Marek's explaination is sufficient for me. I will continue with the
packaging work.

One thing that would be great for the next release would be to move
the changelog information from README.md to a separate changelog file
that I could include as upstream changelog.

Thanks for the fast responses and the clarification.

Kind Regards,
Jan
