Bug#636114: ITP: libdssialsacompat -- DSSI ALSA compatibility library for non-Linux platforms
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Alessio Treglia ales...@debian.org * Package name: libdssialsacompat Version : 1.0.8 Upstream Author : Sean Bolton s...@smbolton.com * URL : http://smbolton.com/linux.html * License : GPL Programming Lang: C Description : DSSI ALSA compatibility library for non-Linux platforms libdssialsacompat is simply an extraction from and repackaging of the code from alsa-lib, necessary to support DSSI on non-ALSA systems. . libdssialsacompat is intended to provide the snd_seq_event_t declarations and handling code necessary to compile and use DSSI on non-ALSA systems. It aims to allows compiling DSSI code with as little change as possible, while not presenting itself in such a way as to fool other autoconf-enabled code into thinking a system has ALSA. . This library does NOT provide any sort of emulation of the ALSA audio, MIDI, or sequencer devices. The only part of ALSA that is required by the DSSI specification is the snd_seq_event_t definition and handling, and that is all libdssialsacompat is intended to replace. Other ALSA code should be ported to native facilities. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? It aims to allows compiling DSSI code with as little change as possible, while not presenting itself in such a way as to fool other autoconf-enabled code into thinking a system has ALSA. . This library does NOT provide any sort of emulation of the ALSA audio, MIDI, or sequencer devices. The only part of ALSA that is required by the DSSI specification is the snd_seq_event_t definition and handling, and that is all libdssialsacompat is intended to replace. The language engine is accessible as a library, having a C API which allows the application to exchange data with Lua programs and also to extend Lua with C functions. Lua is also used as a general-purpose, stand-alone language through the simple command line interpreter provided. Lua 5.2 is currently in alpha. To those who will otherwise object to too many Lua source packages, some reminders of why we need to add this new source package while maintaining old versions: * Lua point releases (5.0, 5.1, etc.) are major releases, with backwards incompatibilities in the C API, language, and standard libraries. The last major release (5.1) was about 5 years ago. * Lua is commonly used to extend applications, and such applications, and moreover the scripts written by the application users, necessarily depend on a specific major version. Upgrading applications to new versions is not trivial. Furthermore, due to the power and virtually complete lack of bugs inherent in even old Lua versions, there is often little reason for applications to upgrade. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: lua5.2 Source-Version: 5.2.0~beta-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of lua5.2, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: liblua5.2-0-dbg_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb to main/l/lua5.2/liblua5.2-0-dbg_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb liblua5.2-0_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb to main/l/lua5.2/liblua5.2-0_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb liblua5.2-dev_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb to main/l/lua5.2/liblua5.2-dev_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb lua5.2-doc_5.2.0~beta-1_all.deb to main/l/lua5.2/lua5.2-doc_5.2.0~beta-1_all.deb lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1.debian.tar.gz to main/l/lua5.2/lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1.debian.tar.gz lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1.dsc to main/l/lua5.2/lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1.dsc lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb to main/l/lua5.2/lua5.2_5.2.0~beta-1_amd64.deb lua5.2_5.2.0~beta.orig.tar.gz to main/l/lua5.2/lua5.2_5.2.0~beta.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#608171: [Pkg-kde-extras] iceweasel-kde-support on Debian
Hello, On sekmadienis 31 Liepa 2011 20:33:33 Rafael Belmonte wrote: Hello, I am mailing, KDE Extras Team, and Mozilla Team because my petition is related to both teams. This is to remember you about the existence of Kmozillahelper or also called firefox-kde-support. This is a package which provides Firefox (or Iceweasel in our case) a better KDE integration and support, adding the following features: * Getting proxy configuration * Getting default applications by file extension, type, and protocol * The Open with: dialog * The file open dialog * The file save dialog, with KIO network transparency * The directory selection dialog * Opening files with default applications * Running applications * Opening the default feed reader * Opening the default mail client * Opening the default news client * Checking and setting the default web browser * Showing KDE notifications on download completions This is already being used in OpenSuse (which is also upstream), and also is used in Kubuntu packaged as firefox-kde-support. You can find upstream software here: http://gitorious.org/firefox-kde-opensuse And information about the Ubuntu package here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/kmozillahelper The Debian Bug #608171 is also related to this matter. The current KDE integration of Iceweasel has a lot to be desired compared with the other mentioned distributions, please consider joining efforts to make it better on Debian KDE desktop. Well, personally I would be kind of interested in seeing better iceweasel integration with KDE Platform. However: 1) as far as I can tell from #608171, some patch is needed for iceweasel. Unfortunately, iceweasel maintainers do not seem very fond of it. Personally, I'm not willing to invest my time into developing a better patch/solution for iceweasel. 2) ITP is already owned by P. J. McDermott. So unless this is a request for sponsorship or take over, I don't see how anybody from KDE maintainers can help here. -- Modestas Vainius mo...@debian.org signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#636164: RFP: apt-clone -- ZFS integrated APT package handling utility
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist * Package name: apt-clone Version : 0.7.9nexenta28 * URL : see below * License : CDDL Programming Lang: Perl Description : ZFS integrated APT package handling utility apt-clone is the command-line tool for handling packages, and may be considered the user's front-end to the apt-get(8). It manages GRUB menu and ZFS 'syspool' filesystems. Two upgrade methods supported: 1) safe upgrades via cloning a currently active filesystem and later chrooting into it to perform actual upgrade operation; 2) in-place (live) upgrades by checkpointing a currently active filesystem prior to any upgrade modifications done by apt-get utility. The live upgrading, as the name implies, happens in-place on the running system, and without reboot. Unless the safe -s option is explicitly specified, the system will automatically detect whether the upgrade will require reboot, and if so, it will clone the active filesystem and safely perform the software upgrade within this ZFS clone. A user then has two options: reboot into the new (upgraded) system folder or continue working (and possibly activate the upgrade and reboot into it later). apt-clone may be obtained from Nexenta APT repository.
