I think that both versions can happily co-exist in Debian, rather than
one replacing the other.

I'm not a Debian packaging expert, but if someone wants to send me the
'debian' control directory I'm happy to add it to the distribution to
make things easier.

Cheers,
Toby

Bug#636295: ITP: jscribble

2011-08-01 Thread Martin Ueding
Package: wnpp

* Package name: jscribble
  Version : 1.0
Upstream Author : Martin Ueding (me)
* URL : https://launchpad.net/jscribble
* License : GPL v2
  Section : utils
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : graphical notepad for use with a pen tablet

`jscribble` is a graphical notepad with as many pages as you want. You
can organize your notes within notepads. Best used with a graphics
tablet or touchscreen.

Taking notes on paper allow you to draw and write whatever you want.
Some people are fast enough in LaTeX to set complicated formulas while
in a lecture. Some prefer to draw these by hand but do not like
carrying lots of paper with me.

`jscribble` offers screen based note taking with as many pages as you
want. [`Xournal`](http://xournal.sourceforge.net/) offers more features
but is paper size oriented which does not make sense on a 10" netbook
screen where one wants to use the whole screen for taking notes.

Another focus was set to avoid any mouse navigation. All you can do with
your mouse (or pen) is draw, therefore you cannot click anything
accidentially. Navigation is done with the keyboard.

***

I am working on the packaging right now.

Bug#636288: ITP: libstring-tokenizer-perl -- Simple string tokenizer

2011-08-01 Thread Ben Webb
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ben Webb

* Package name: libstring-tokenizer-perl
  Version : 0.05
  Upstream Author : Stevan Little,
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/String-Tokenizer/
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Simple string tokenizer

A simple string tokenizer which takes a string and splits it on whitespace.
It also optionally takes a string of characters to use as delimiters, and
returns them with the token set as well. This allows for splitting the string
in many different ways.

This is a very basic tokenizer, so more complex needs should be either
addressed with a custom written tokenizer or post-processing of the output
generated by this module. Basically, this will not fill everyones needs, but
it spans a gap between simple split / /, $string and the other options that
involve much larger and complex modules.

Also note that this is not a lexical analyser. Many people confuse
tokenization with lexical analysis. A tokenizer mearly splits its input into
specific chunks, a lexical analyzer classifies those chunks. Sometimes these
two steps are combined, but not here.

Bug#361954: OpenSSL exception

2011-08-01 Thread Jose Antonio Quevedo Muñoz
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA256

Hi everyone,

I'm packaging your software, Ossec, for Debian [1] and, there's an
ambiguity issue between GPL and OpenSSL licenses when they are being
redistributed together.

It would be great if you could add the OpenSSL exception to Ossec's
legal code as it's described in this email [2] because, although I
already have a patch to avoid linking against OpenSSL, and sysadmins can
use other software (like OpenVPN) to send information through OpenSSL
tunnels, this is an interesting feature that I'm sure we all would be
glad of being able to use in our Ossec server-agent installation.

I'll be waitting for your answer here or within your code.

Thanks in advance,

Bug#636262: ITP: kbdd -- Per-window keyboard layout switching daemon for X

Description : Per-window keyboard layout switching daemon for X

KBDD stands for keyboard daemon. It is a simple keyboard layout
switching program, which is designed to run in an X11 session and
remember keyboard layouts on a per-window basis. That can be very
handy for a user of a non-US keyboard who does not want to jump
through layouts back and forth while typing in terminals (mostly in
latin) and some kind of chat in her native language. Another useful
thing about KBDD is its D-Bus notification support — it can emit
signals on layout change, thus, making it possible to create layout
indicator widgets in such window managers as awesome, for example.

Err, I guess it watches for the currently active window, and on switch,
switches the whole X server keyboard layout? That's a costly approach,
when you can much more efficiently redirect the keymap updates, to send
the appropriate keymap update to the appropriate windows just once and
be done with it without having to watch window switch.

How does this relate to the Gnome System->Keyboard->Layouts dialog that
already in squeeze has the option to have separate layout for each
window:

"[ ] Separate layout for each window"

Where you aware of this?

Is kbdd mainly targeted for non-GNOME users?

And in README file there's no license stuff.

There seems to be some copyright issues in the upstream tarball.

Bug#364295: FLTK2 very likely will never be uploaded to Debian

2011-08-01 Thread Axel Beckert
tag 364295 + wontfix
kthxbye

Hi,

I'm very sure that nobody will ever package FLTK 2.0 for Debian
(anymore) despite it's no more non-free -- because it's deprecated,
was never released as stable and is obsoleted by FLTK 1.3 which is in
Debian Unstable. Additionally most software who build upon FLTK 2.0
now uses FLTK 1.3, too, like e.g. Dillo which I uploaded just recently
to Debian Experimental.

I would have closed the RFP for FLTK 2.0
(http://bugs.debian.org/364295) because of that, but as #192827
(xdiskusage: Printing doesn't manage non-ASCII characters,
http://bugs.debian.org/192827) is still blocked by that RFP, I just
tagged it as "wontfix".

I tried to build xdiskusage against FLTK 1.3 instead of 1.1 (1.3 has
been released recently and entered Debian Unstable just shortly
afterwards) and it surprisingly built out of the box. (FLWM did not.)
It also works -- until you have an Directory with UTF-8 names in. Then
the xdiskusage window becomes somehow transparent (with ratpoison WM
at least), but clicking on that invisible window still gives the
pop-up menu and allows to export into PostScript. That PostScript
nevertheless looks not like UTF-8, but also not like just UTF-8
interpreted as ISO-Latin, e.g. no à in there.

I nevertheless hope that #192827 can be solved by using FLTK 1.3 and a
little bit of tweaking.

Thierry: Maybe you can poke the xdiskusage upstream about this issue
again, with a pointer to FLTK 1.3?

Regards, Axel

Bug#636164: RFP: apt-clone -- ZFS integrated APT package handling utility

I know. SUN used to be quite interested in GRUB 2. One of their
engineers has spent a lot of time in upstream ML, but he wasn't
allowed to tell about SUN's plans.

I agree it's not the brightest piece of code, but at least I think the
GRUB part could be merged back. They know they might need it someday
when GRUB is upgraded in Illumos (GRUB 2 should work on Solaris -or
almost, all the important bits are there-).

I can try building on amd64 when I manage to take time for it. Might take
some time tough.

Would be nice. I have a collab-maintain packages as well (fio) and thus it
should be easy to get access to.

Thanks,
