Bug#639095: ITP: libnode-async -- higher-order functions and common patterns for asynchronous Javascript

2011-08-23 Thread Jonas Smedegaard
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jonas Smedegaard

* Package name: libnode-async
  Version : 0.1.9
  Upstream Author : Caolan McMahon
* URL : https://github.com/caolan/async
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Javascript
  Description : higher-order functions and common patterns for asynchronous
Javascript

 Node is an event-based server-side JavaScript engine.
 .
 Async is a utility module which provides straight-forward, powerful
 functions for working with asynchronous Javascript. Although originally
 designed for use with Node, it can also be used directly in the
 browser.
 .
 Async provides around 20 functions that include the usual 'functional'
 suspects (map, reduce, filter, forEach…) as well as some common
 patterns for asynchronous control flow (parallel, series, waterfall…).
 All these functions assume you follow the Node convention of providing
 a single callback as the last argument of your async function.

True, thanks for pointing that out. I will initiate a discussion
regarding a license change within the project towards LGPL for both
libnetmd and libhimd.

While there shouldn't be any issues regarding the license change for
libhimd (since we wrote all the code ourselves), we will have to ask
the original authors of libnetmd who abandoned the project in
2004. But I am pretty confident they won't have any problems with the
license change either.

Thanks,

Adrian

Bug#607877: ITP: openid4java -- This library allows you to OpenID-enable your Java webapp

2011-08-23 Thread Miguel Landaeta
Hi Xavier,

I'm wondering about what happened to openid4java package since
I remember seeing it at NEW queue on January 2011 but I couldn't
find any FTPmaster reject or something.

I'm preparing a package with an optional Build-Depends on openid4java,
so I have interest to know about the current status of this package.

Cheers,

Bug#638999: ITP: i-news (2nd request) -- GTK-based highly graphically-configurable RSS Ticker

2011-08-23 Thread Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "i-news" (2nd request).

It's now fully lintian clean.

As I already mentioned, the package name choice is not definitive and
I'm open to any better name (but a not too long one) that could come
up... ;)

This app has been previously selected by the Ubuntu Application Review
Board (under the name 'News RSS Ticker") and was in extras.ubuntu.com
for maverick. I got very positive feedback from users.

Details:

 * Package name: i-news
   Version : 0.5.3-1
   Upstream Author : Emmanuel Thomas-Maurin
 * URL : http://newsrssticker.com/unstable-debian/
 * License : GPL
   Section : net

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/i-news

It's also referenced at:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=638999

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/i/i-news/i-news_0.5.3-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Thank you and best regards,

I intend to orphan the gdb package. I will continue to intermittently
follow upstream development, and upstream is pretty active; not a lot
of Debian-local work is needed. There's a couple of local patches
(bad Dan!) which could be submitted. Or possibly dropped with the
latest upstream.

Please, if you adopt this, also take gdb-doc; a script in the GDB
source package produces DFSG sanitized source packages for both
packages from the FSF release tarball.

The package description is:
 GDB is a source-level debugger, capable of breaking programs at
 any specific line, displaying variable values, and determining
 where errors occurred. Currently, it works for C, C++, Fortran,
 Modula 2 and Java programs. A must-have for any serious
 programmer.

* Package name: python-gitdb
  Version : 0.5.4
  Upstream Author : Sebastian Thiel
* URL : http://github.com/gitpython-developers/gitdb
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : a pure-Python git object database

 The GitDB project implements interfaces to allow read and write access to git
 repositories. In its core lies the db package, which contains all database
 types necessary to read a complete git repository. These are the LooseObjectDB,
 the PackedDB and the ReferenceDB which are combined into the GitDB to combine
 every aspect of the git database.
 .
 For this to work, GitDB implements pack reading, as well as loose object
 reading and writing. Data is always encapsulated in streams, which allows huge
 files to be handled as well as small ones, usually only chunks of the stream
 are kept in memory for processing, never the whole stream at once.
 .
 Interfaces are used to describe the API, making it easy to provide alternate
 implementations.

Bug#638975: ITP: python-async -- a framework to process interdependent tasks in a pool of workers

2011-08-23 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo Silva
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva

* Package name: python-async
  Version : 0.6.1
  Upstream Author : Sebastian Thiel
* URL : http://gitorious.org/git-python/async
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : a framework to process interdependent tasks in a pool of
workers

 Async is one more attempt to make the definition and execution of asynchronous
 interdependent operations easy. For that to work, you may define tasks which
 communicate with each other by channels. Channels transfer items, which is very
 similar to bytes flowing through pipes uses in inter-process
 communication. Items will only be generated on demand, that is when you read
 from the respective output channel.
 .
 As it turned out, the GIL is far more restricting than initially thought, which
 effectively means true concurrency can only be obtained during input output to
 files and sockets, as well as specifically written versions of existing c
 python extensions which release the GIL before lengthy operations. Many of the
 currently available c extensions, such as zlib, lock everything down to just
 one thread at a time, even though this isn’t a strict technical requirement.

This is a dependency of python-gitdb.

Bug#638973: ITP: python-smmap -- a pure git implementation of a sliding window memory map manager

2011-08-23 Thread Marco Túlio Gontijo Silva
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva

* Package name: python-smmap
  Version : 0.8.1
  Upstream Author : Sebastian Thiel
* URL : http://github.com/Byron/smmap
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : a pure git implementation of a sliding window memory map
manager

 When reading from many possibly large files in a fashion similar to random
 access, it is usually the fastest and most efficient to use memory maps.
 .
 Although memory maps have many advantages, they represent a very limited system
 resource as every map uses one file descriptor, whose amount is limited per
 process. On 32 bit systems, the amount of memory you can have mapped at a time
 is naturally limited to theoretical 4GB of memory, which may not be enough for
 some applications.

This is a dependency for python-gitdb.

Bug#638968: ITP: libnetmd -- Libraries for accessing Sony NetMD MiniDisc Walkman

2011-08-23 Thread John Paul Adrian Glaubitz
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Paul Adrian Glaubitz

* Package name: libnetmd
  Version : 0.0.1
  Upstream Author : The linux-minidisc project

* URL : https://wiki.physik.fu-berlin.de/linux-minidisc/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : Libraries for accessing Sony NetMD MiniDisc Walkman

libnetmd is a library providing access to so-called NetMD MiniDisc Walkman.
NetMD is
an extension to the classic MiniDisc system which allows to transfer audio
tracks
digitally to the recorder [1].

The transfer itself is encrypted while the audio data on the medium remains
unencrypted
to be compatible with existing MiniDisc recorders and players. Encryption is
achieved
through DES and 3DES using a secret root key and dynamically generated session
keys.
Luckily, it is not mandatory to use Sony's proprietary secret but also possible
to
use one's own generated keys. The current implementation uses a very geeky
custom
generated root key: 0x13371337133713371337133713371337. This key works and is
at the
same time unencumbered, thus there are no possible legal issues.

The library has been around since around 2004, but it was not until recently
that
transfer capabilities were achieved, making the library now actually useful. By
packaging the library for Debian, users will finally be able to use their
MiniDisc
hardware completely with free software.

A related library support Sony HiMD Walkman is called libhimd and has its own
ITP/RFP [2].

Owner: Yaroslav Halchenko

* Package name: python-pycuda
  Version : 0.93
  Upstream Author : Andreas Kloeckner
* URL : http://mathema.tician.de/software/pycuda
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C++, Python
  Description : module to access Nvidia‘s CUDA parallel computation API

PyCUDA lets you access Nvidia‘s CUDA parallel computation API from
Python. Several wrappers of the CUDA API already exist–so what’s so special
about PyCUDA?

 * Object cleanup tied to lifetime of objects. This idiom, often called
   RAII in C++, makes it much easier to write correct, leak- and crash-free
code.
   PyCUDA knows about dependencies, too, so (for example) it won’t detach from a
   context before all memory allocated in it is also freed.

 * Convenience. Abstractions like pycuda.driver.SourceModule and
   pycuda.gpuarray.GPUArray make CUDA programming even more convenient than with
   Nvidia’s C-based runtime.

 * Completeness. PyCUDA puts the full power of CUDA’s driver API at your
   disposal, if you wish.

 * Automatic Error Checking. All CUDA errors are automatically translated
   into Python exceptions.

 * Speed. PyCUDA’s base layer is written in C++, so all the niceties
   above are virtually free.

 * Helpful Documentation.

To be submitted into contrib section due to dependency on nvcc (non-free, not
yet in Debian either).

Additional things needed to be package prior:

Bug#606373:

2011-08-23 Thread Simone Rossetto
Hi all,

I had already packaged CxxTest for my personal use and now I would like to make
it
available for everyone. I am adapting my package to follow debian policies and
I'm writing
a patch to support Qt4 because the sources are for Qt3.

Bye
Simone
