I admit I do not have any idea what CDF means and also "Common Data
Model (CDM)" is far from ringing any bell (as well as the other
acronyms). It would be helpful for the wider public to add some hints
about these things as well as some examples for practical usage.

Kind regards

Description : PAM module to blacklist hosts/users with many login failures

This PAM module automatically adds hosts and/or users with many
authentication failures in pre-defined time intervals to a temporary
blacklist. While blacklisted, any authentication attempt will
silently
fail, pretending the given authentication credentions are wrong.
After
the pre-defined blacklist interval, the host/user will be unbanned
again.

Thus, this module provides effective protection against the
password
guessing attacks agaings ssh servers seen lastly in the
internet.

Bug#601596: Joining the TTS team

2011-09-13 Thread Sergio Oller
I am interested in joining the Debian TTS team that seems
Jean-Philippe Mengual is going to create soon.

I am just starting into Debian (I come from Ubuntu) and I have had
some experience with festival and speech-tools so I believe I might be
of some help,
however I am not a Debian Developer or Debian Maintainer so don't
expect me to know a lot about the debian workflow (although I am
willing to learn) :-)

Also, I would like to package (and maintain) Festival's Catalan
support (festival-ca and one or two Catalan HTS voices).

It seems that it is needed to contact other maintainers of other TTS
packages to ask them to join the future TTS team.
I will try to find email addresses and contact them ten days from now
(I expect to have some free time then) if it is still needed and
everyone thinks this is fine.

I am looking forward to all this.

Regards,

Sergio

Description : Logging service for distributed applications

Logging service for distributed applications - runtime
Monitoring distributed applications that are spread over a network is
not an easy task. Information from several sources must be gathered,
filtered and distributed to visualisation tools.
LogService is a system that simplifies this task. It acts as a common
base between an application and it's visualisation tools. It also
provides a mechanism to classify and filter messages in a general way
and other functions are needed to monitor distributed applications.

Long description taken from http://www.happypenguin.org/show?Cubosphere

Roll your ball trough a 3d maze, collect all keys and proceed to the exit. The
strange physics - where gravity acts always relative to your position and
orientation - makes Cubosphere to a challenging puzzle where no "up", "down",
"left", "right", "front" and "back" exist.
The game comes with an internal level editor!

Description : blacklist hosts and users after failed authentication
attempts

A PAM module that provides auto blacklisting of hosts and users
responsible for repeated failed authentication attempts. Generally
configured so that blacklisted users still see normal login prompts but
are guaranteed to fail to authenticate.

This was posted in the thread[1] about ssh brute force mitigation and seems
really useful to have.

Thanks in advance, David Schmitt

Adding more reverse dependencies won't help either.

Bug#641464: ITP: pandas -- data structures for "relational" or "labeled" data

2011-09-13 Thread NeuroDebian Team
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: NeuroDebian Team

* Package name: pandas
  Version : 0.4.0
  Upstream Author : Wes McKinney
* URL : http://pandas.sourceforge.net
* License : BSD-3
  Programming Lang: Python, Cython
Description : data structures for "relational" or "labeled" data

pandas is a Python package providing fast, flexible, and expressive
data structures designed to make working with "relational" or
"labeled" data both easy and intuitive. It aims to be the fundamental
high-level building block for doing practical, real world data
analysis in Python. pandas is well suited for many different kinds of
 data:
 .
  - Tabular data with heterogeneously-typed columns, as in an SQL
table or Excel spreadsheet
  - Ordered and unordered (not necessarily fixed-frequency) time
series data.
  - Arbitrary matrix data (homogeneously typed or heterogeneous) with
row and column labels
  - Any other form of observational / statistical data sets. The data
actually need not be labeled at all to be placed into a pandas
data structure

Bug#641465: ITP: kboot-utils -- Helper tools to generate a kboot.conf file

2011-09-13 Thread Antonio Ospite
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Antonio Ospite

Dear Maintainer,

* Package name: kboot-utils
  Version : 0.1
  Upstream Author : Antonio Ospite
* URL : http://git.ao2.it/kboot-utils.git/
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: Posix shell
Description : Helper tools to generate a kboot.conf file
Helper tools to automatically generate a kboot.conf from entries in /boot
.
The kboot.conf file can be read by the petitboot bootloader which is used
for instance on the Sony Playstation 3 in OtherOS mode in order to list
kernels to boot.

Hi,

on PS3 there is the need to have a kboot.conf inside the rootfs so that
the petitboot bootloader knows which kernels can be booted and list them.
kboot-utils automatically creates this file by looking at kernels in
/boot.

This functionality is especially needed at install time, the
debian-installer works on PS3 but in order to boot the machine the first
time, some manual intervention is still needed, look at #619236 [1].

I am the upstream author and the packager, please take a look at the
debian/ dir in the upstream source for the packaging stuff, and to the
script itself if you like.

I am looking at a better way to handle debian packages directly from
git, but for the time being, for such a simple package, having the
debian/ dir in the upstream code didn't look too horrible.

I built the package with "dpkg-buildpackage -b -us -uc -tc" and verified
it is lintian-clean (except the ITP related warnings which I'll fix
soon) and even piuparts-clean.

I am no DD, so I guess a sponsor would be needed when the package is in
shape and ready to be uploaded.

Thanks,
   Antonio Ospite

of the NetCDF, OpenDAP and HDF5 data models. The library is a prototype for the
NetCDF-4 project, which provides a C language API for the "data access layer"
of the CDM, on top of the HDF5 file format. The NetCDF-Java library is a 100%
Java framework for reading netCDF and other file formats into the CDM, as well
as writing to the netCDF-3 file format. The NetCDF-Java library also implements
NcML, which allows you to add metadata to CDM datasets, as well as to create
 virtual datasets through aggregation.

Bug#641399: ITP: visad -- Visualization for Algorithm Development

2011-09-13 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Mathieu Malaterre

* Package name: visad
  Version : 2.0
  Upstream Author : Bill Hibbard
* URL : http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~billh/visad.html
* License : GPL, LGPL, BSD
  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Visualization for Algorithm Development

VisAD is a Java component library for interactive and collaborative
visualization and analysis of numerical data. The name VisAD is an acronym for
"Visualization for Algorithm Development". The system combines:
 .
The use of pure Java for platform independence and to support data sharing and
real-time collaboration among geographically distributed users. Support for
distributed computing is integrated at the lowest levels of the system using
 Java RMI distributed objects.
 .
A general mathematical data model that can be adapted to virtually any
numerical data, that supports data sharing among different users, different
data sources and different scientific disciplines, and that provides
transparent access to data independent of storage format and location (i.e.,
memory, disk or remote). The data model has been adapted to netCDF, HDF-5,
FITS, HDF-EOS, McIDAS, Vis5D, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, QuickTime, ASCII and many other
 file formats.
 .
A general display model that supports interactive 3-D, data fusion, multiple
data views, direct manipulation, collaboration, and virtual reality. The
display model has been adapted to Java3D and Java2D and used in an ImmersaDesk
 virtual reality display.
 .
Data analysis and computation integrated with visualization to support
computational steering and other complex interaction modes.
 .
Support for two distinct communities: developers who create domain- specific
systems based on VisAD, and users of those domain-specific systems. VisAD is
designed to support a wide variety of user interfaces, ranging from simple data
browser applets to complex applications that allow groups of scientists to
 collaboratively develop data analysis algorithms.
 .
Developer extensibility in as many ways as possible.
