Bug#647061: ITP: cheops-chess -- C Chess Engine
I think it's an alternate to gnuchess, with a more friendly layout. It's a ncurses with a real board displayed on the screen. With gnuchess, I've just tried, it seems everything is in pure commandline. So the format is a bit different. Well gnuchess is mostly supposed to be used as a backend for graphical chess programs such as knights or xboard. So i was wondering if this package could be used too as a backend for already existing chess GUIs that are already in debian. Check out this page please: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_engine#Protocols Personally i don't like the idea of a chess engine that uses it's own private protocol rather than a well known one, so that both parts (engine and gui) could be used independently from each other, so perhaps you could confirm or deny wether it uses an already existing protocol or not? Each tile has a set of tabs for the windows within it. It also allows windows to be made 'floating' and placed freely. Notion can be controlled through the keyboard alone or together with a mouse. . Notion can be configured and extended using the Lua language. It also supports extension modules written in C. 'Notion' is a fork of Ion3, which was previously in Debian but was removed due to a dead upstream. The Ion license may or may not be DFSG-free, for now we should probably just put the package in non-free. For details see https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/notion/index.php?title=Licensing_FAQ#Does_this_make_Notion_non-DFSG-free_.28non-OSD-free.29.3F Tuomo Valkonen intended his first modified-LGPL to forbid use of 'ion' in any filenames in a modified version[1], and I don't believe this was rescinded. This goes beyond what is allowed by DFSG ¶4. His relicensing may not have legal force since he was not the only author of Ion, but when judging whether software meets DFSG we generally assume that all licence conditions are enforceable. [1] This was discussed on debian-private with the subject Ion3/ParticleMan licence on 17-20 November 2007. I can also provide my earlier correspondence with Tuomo for anyone that is interested. Bug#639315: pypy had a package but removed due to #538858
Yes, but it's time to look at packaging this again. PyPy is quite stable these days and is much faster than the default Python implementation. One day we can look at packaging this again, but it's not helpful to Debian in its current state - it is too premature to have in unstable and has some issues that would be difficult to fix. Development is also difficult due to the long build times and buildd specifications required. It has a very low popcon - anyone with a non-trivial interest in this project would be using upstream's HEAD anyway. -- Bekir Dogan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-wnpp-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
