Well, one has to start somewhere. :) If documenting every option is
a goal, the gcc source might be a useful reference:

 git://gcc.gnu.org/git/gcc.git

Though I'm not sure documenting every option is important.

I'll be happy to use your manpages and send patches when they fail me.

I can ask. Two things, though. One, these manual pages are totally
incomplete. There's no way that they're going to be finished anytime
soon, simply because of the number of options, and also because I don't
have access to the -v --help output for every architecture, only i386,
amd64, and sparc (and maybe powerpc). The other thing is that the gcc
manual pages must be shipped in a separate package because Matthias
Klose wants to be able to depend on gcc-manpages | gcc-4.6-doc (or
whatever the two packages are called).

I just called the upstream project that because I needed a name and
because I figured it was better to be more generic and anticipate that I
might write other man pages. Right now there are only man pages for gcc
and friends.

Hi Brian,

Sounds useful, and like something other distros could take advantage
of, too. The man-pages project already includes pages for a few GNU
programs. Have you looked into submitting these there? (I'm not sure
if it would be accepted since gcc already has an upstream manpage, but
it seems worth a try.)

Thanks for your work,

Finally, there is a button to lock the screen (while the break is active) in

I hope it's better now:

Description: Typing monitor to force typing breaks
It's a program that forces you to take regular breaks to prevent RSI
(Repetitive Strain Injury). It's similar to workrave.
 .
It can be found in GNOME control center as "typing break". You can specify the
work interval (how much time you want to work between breaks) and a break
interval (how long your break will be). It also allows postponing of breaks.
Finally, there is an option to lock the screen in case you want to step out
 indefinetely.

It used to be part of GNOME 2's main core, but is now packaged separately.

Already filed and marked wontfix by Matthias Klose: #654931. His
objection was that the non-free manpages from upstream would have to be
diverted. If you and he want to fight it out, be my guest; just let me
know what you decide.

* License : GPL-2/Apache-2.0/CC-BY-SA-3.0 tri-license
  Programming Lang: man
Description : manual pages for software missing them

missing-manpages provides free manual pages for software that does not
have them.

Note that this is the name of the source package. Currently only manual
pages for GCC are available, but it's possible manpages for other
packages will be included at some point in the future. This is being
packaged separately from gcc because its maintainer is not interested in
including manpages in the gcc-4.6 package. The exact name for the
binary package containing the gcc manpages is yet to be determined
pending feedback from debian-gcc (CC'd).

The description for the binary package is as follows:

documentation for the GNU Compiler Collection

This package contains manual pages for the GNU Compiler Collection. The
upstream manual pages cannot be included in main for license reasons, so
these (incomplete) manual pages have been written from scratch to
replace them.

It was packaged with GNOME 2 before, now it's packaged separately and
it supports gnome 3.
You suggest that I should change the single-line description? Perhaps
"Known as typing break in GNOME 2" isn't the best single-line
description.. I'll come up with something better in the next couple of

Description : Parse and create Quicken Interchange Format files
Finance::QIF is a module for working with QIF (Quicken Interchange Format)
files in Perl. Finance::QIF reads QIF data records from a file passing each
successive record to the caller for processing. This module also has the
capability of writing QIF records to a file.
 .
The QIF file format typically consists of a header containing a record or
transaction type, followed by associated data records. Within a file there
may be multiple headers. Headers are usually followed by data records,
however data is not required to always follow a header.
 .
A hash reference is returned for each record read from a file. The hash will
have a "header" value which contains the header type that was read along with
all supported values found for that record. If a value is not specified in
the data file, the value will not exist in this hash.

Package name: pentobi
Version : 0.3
Upstream Author : Markus Enzenberger
URL : http://pentobi.sourceforge.net/
License : GPL3
Programming Lang: C++
Description : Pentobi is a clone of Blokus, a strategy board game
based on the concept of polyominoes.

Pentobi features 5 game versions; Classic, Classic Two-Playr, Duo,
Trigon and Trigon Two-Player.
Multiple levels of computer opponent difficulty.
Game board save files in Smart Game Format including comments and move
variations.

Classic Gameplay: [1]

The game is played on a square board divided into 20 rows and 20
columns, for a total of 400 squares. There are a total of 84 game
tiles, organized into 21 shapes in each of four colors: blue, yellow,
red, and green. The 21 shapes are based on free polyominoes, from one
to five squares (one monomino, one domino, two trominoes/triominoes,
five tetrominoes, and 12 pentominoes).

The standard rules of play for all variations of the game are as
follows:

Order of play is based on color, with blue going first, followed by
yellow, red, and green. The first piece played of each color is placed
in one of the board's four corners. Each new piece played must be
placed so that it touches at least one piece of the same color, with
only corner-to-corner contact allowed - edges cannot touch. However,
edge-to-edge contact is allowed when two pieces of different color are
involved. When a player cannot place a piece, he or she passes, and
play continues as normal. The game ends when no one can place a piece.

When a game ends, the score is based on the number of squares in each
player's unplayed pieces; a player loses one point for each square
(e.g. a tetromino is worth -4 points). If a player played all of his or
her pieces, he or she gets a bonus score of +20 points if the last
piece played was a monomino, +15 points otherwise.

Zookeeper contains a perl binding and a fuse binding, which I don't know
how to package properly. The c binding packaging has already been
contributed by Matthias Klose.

I request assistance with maintaining the zookeeper package.

The package description is:
ZooKeeper is a centralized, reliable, service for maintaining configuration
information, naming, providing distributed synchronization, and group
services. All of these kinds of services are used in some form or another by
 distributed applications.
 .
This package contains the shell scripts and an example configuration but does
not automatically start up the service. The example configuration is installed
 with the update-alternatives mechanism.

What's exactly the point of this extension?

It appears to do exactly nothing a simple keyword can't do.
Even in bare Firefox, you make a bookmark with URL http://bugs.debian.org/%s
and keyword "bts", then typing "bts 654896" or "bts bash" gets you there.
And keywords don't take up screen space a series of buttons does.

Actually, I use epiphany precisely because it does this and
iceweasel does not. Epiphany can provide a toolbar with multiple buttons
with a text entry box next to each one because that means I can put a
number into the box via the middle mouse button and go straight to the
page, no messing with the address bar or having to clear previous stuff
or getting mixed in with the usually unhelpful search help which usually
covers the bit of the screen I want to see... and the button itself
still works as a plain bookmark button. Just what I need.

Browsing experiences and browsing requirements vary enormously. Don't
assume that you would use any package in the way that others would want
to use it.

The three buttons I always end up adding to any epiphany install are
PTS, BTS and Wiki. I find them particularly useful during a release
freeze to get a quick handle on packages with RC bugs. If iceweasel had
the same functionality, it would be better if it was adaptable to a
wide range of other queries but I'd still use it. I also end up adding
ones for ticket numbers and changeset numbers at work and a variety of
others. I don't care if this functionality is available via the address
bar, that's too awkward and requires actions prior to entering the
query data. Just a simple text entry box, ready and waiting is much
better.

Personally, I'd welcome a fix from the epiphany maintainers to
add a Debian toolbar with these buttons already assigned but I'm not
sure if it's sufficiently popular to warrant a wishlist bug.

Bug#412427: now built with autotools

2012-01-07 Thread Daniel Pocock

I've created a branch of reSIProcate that builds with autotools rather
than the reSIProcate build system

In particular:

- this provides a path to remediating the issues with SONAME that
previous packaging attempts encountered

- a Debian control file has been added on the branch and tested for
generating libresip, libdum and repro (the SIP proxy)

- the TURN server (reTurn) is built but not yet added to the control file

- the autotools build is able to build the RELOAD P2PSIP module for
those who want to experiment with it (it is on the wishlist for the
freedombox project, for example)

The branch is here:

https://svn.resiprocate.org/rep/resiprocate/branches/b-dpocock-autotools/

and some documentation about this effort is here:

http://list.resiprocate.org/archive/resiprocate-devel/msg07794.html

Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the diffstat package.

The package description is:
This program is a simple filter that reads the output of the 'diff' program,
and produces a histogram of the total number of lines that were changed.
It is useful for scanning a patch file to see which files were changed.

The package is in a good shape and upstream is still active but releases
are fairly infrequent as the software is quite mature.
