There's no more updates for viewpdf.app (no more upstream taking care of it),
therefore, I orphan this package now.

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this

I didn't understand how the .dsc file could be used until I started playing
around with git-buildpackage. I'll send the .dsc URL now instead, since
it is much easier.

I'm also signing the .dsc file. My key is in the public servers. I had
to add my personal keyring to my ~/.devscripts file, but other than that,
it worked great.

New release version 0.18.3-2:

Upstream tag: barry-0.18.3-2
Upstream diff: git log -p barry-0.18.3..barry-0.18.3-2
Release URL:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/barry/files/barry/barry-0.18.3/sources/debian/barry_0.18.3-2.dsc

After importing via git-buildpackage, the resulting trees of gbp master
and my upstream tag were identical.

Bug#676139: O: netapplet -- User-friendly network interface control applet

2012-06-04 Thread Rudy Godoy
Package: wnpp

I'm orphaning this package since I'm no longer GNOME user, but
mainly because the package needs an upstream and I don't have
time to handle both roles.

Besides that, I'm guessing there's better ways to handle
networking in Debian. So, I believe this package is also a
candidate for archive removal in the near future.

Thanks,
Rudy

Bug#675106: ITP: pgbulkload -- A high speed data loading utility for PostgreSQL

Thanks a lot! For some reasons the message got off the thread, I
accidently found it while searching for another. Also lists.debian.org
cannot find the original post, while GMANE shows it perfectly fine. Is
it supposed to be like that?

Integrity check does include constraint check but in this case they
are kept separate. The authors emphasize the fact that you can perform
constraint check with pg_bulkload for unclean data while having
[expensive] database server integrity check turned off.

Enter-Transform-Load - a software development pattern which currently
evolved into an industry. Used to be a nice girl by a keyboard,
nowadays implemented with network clusters.

This would not be entirely true. While pg_bulkload does allow to
convert the data into binary file, it requires assistance of
server-side components of the package. Which one may consider not
pg_bulkload utility itself and this is certainly not simple dumping
preprocessed data.

> (Here, the purpose should be mentioned. Is this for improving
> the performance of later multiple “bulkloads”, for instance?)

I would say the reverse. Multiple `bulkload' instances perform
conversion using multiple [satellite] servers, which may populate
[network] storage. Later a "main" server could pick up preprocessed
data chunks and quickly load them.

To make use of pg_bulkload 3.1+ ability to convert the data into
binary form it is currently required to create a rather specific
setup. I would withhold the promises of better performance as people
would expect "dump binary locally, then upload to the server"
functionality. It may hardly be feasible if, say, the server and the
client have different CPU types.

A single server/single storage case is the worst for the binary
conversion. The process will be constrained by the RAM/storage
bandwidth and slowed down almost twice.

Description : Java library for developing numerical applications
MTJ is designed to be used as a library for developing numerical
applications, both for small and large scale computations. The library
is based on BLAS and LAPACK for its dense and structured sparse
computations, and on the Templates project for unstructured sparse
 operations.
 .
MTJ uses the netlib-java project as a backend, which can be set up to
use machine-optimised BLAS libraries for improved performance of dense
matrix operations, falling back to a pure Java implementation. This
ensures perfect portability, while allowing for improved performance in
 a production environment.

Remark: The package is maintained by the Debian Med team because it is
a precondition for beast-mcmc (#552101 - actually the last missing one,
finally). The packaging is available at

Router::Simple is a simple router class. Its main purpose is to serve
as a dispatcher for web applications. Router::Simple can match against
PSGI $env directly, which means it's easy to use with PSGI supporting
web frameworks.

Description : Python support for distutils2-like setup.cfg files as
package metadata

d2to1 (the 'd' is for 'distutils') allows using distutils2-like setup.cfg
 files for a package's metadata with a distribute/setuptools setup.py script.
It works by providing a distutils2-formatted setup.cfg file containing all
of a package's metadata, and a very minimal setup.py which will slurp its
 arguments from the setup.cfg.

This Python module is needed by newer versions of PyFITS.

Description : tests 'meta/changes.ttl' is up to date

Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a standard model for data
 interchange on the Web.
 .
Test::RDF::DOAP::Version reads all RDF in a distribution's "meta"
directory and checks the distribution metadata matches the pattern:
 .
  ?uri doap:release ?rel .
  ?rel doap:revision ?ver .
 .
 Where ?uri is the URI
 "http://purl.org/NET/cpan-uri/dist/$dist/project"; and ?ver is
"$module->VERSION", as an xsd:string or plain literal.

Description : trust META.yml list of dependencies

CPAN doesn't trust "META.yml"'s list of dependencies for a module.
Instead it expects "Makefile.PL" run on the computer the package is
being installed upon to generate its own list of dependencies (called
 "MYMETA.yml" or "MYMETA.json").
 .
Module::Install::TrustMetaYml generates "MYMETA.yml" by simply passing
 through the dependencies from "META.yml".

Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a standard model for data
 interchange on the Web.
 .
Module::Install::RDF doesn't really do much on its own, but is a
 pre-requisite for Module::Install::DOAP.
 .
Specifically, it reads all the RDF it can find in the distribution's
'meta' directory and exposes it for other modules to make use of.

Description : write your distribution change log in RDF

Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a standard model for data
 interchange on the Web.
 .
Module::Install::DOAPChangeSets allows you to write your Changes file
in Turtle or RDF/XML and autogenerate a human-readable text file.
 .
To do this, create an RDF file called "meta/changes.ttl" (or something
like that) and describe your distribution's changes in RDF using the
Dublin Core, DOAP, and DOAP Change Sets vocabularies. Then in your
 Makefile.PL, include:
 .
  write_doap_changes "meta/changes.ttl", "Changes", "turtle";
 .
This line will read your data from the file named as the first
argument, parse it using either Turtle or RDFXML parsers (the third
argument), and output a human-readable changelog to the file named as
 the second argument.

Description : automagically generate LICENSE files

 Module::Install::AutoLicense is a Module::Install extension that
generates a "LICENSE" file automatically whenever the author runs
"Makefile.PL". On the user side it does nothing.
 .
When "make distclean" is invoked by the author, the "LICENSE" is
 removed.
 .
The appropriate license is determined from the meta provided with the
"license" command and the holder of the license from the "author"
 command.
 .
Software::License is used to generate the "LICENSE" file.

Description : MANIFEST.SKIP management for Perl modules

Module::Manifest::Skip is mostly intended for module packaging
frameworks to share a common, up-to-date "MANIFEST.SKIP" base. For
example, Module::Install::ManifestSkip, uses this module to get the
actual SKIP content. However this module may be useful for any module
 author.
 .
CPAN module authors use a MANIFEST.SKIP file to exclude certain well
known files from getting put into a generated MANIFEST file, which
would cause them to go into the final distribution package.
 .
The packaging tools try to automatically skip things for you, but if
you add one of your own entries, you have to add all the common ones
yourself. This module attempts to make all of this boring process as
 simple and reliable as possible.
 .
Module::Manifest::Skip can create or update a MANIFEST.SKIP file for
you. You can add your own entries, and it will leave them alone. You
can even tell it to not skip certain entries that it normally skips,
 although this is rarely needed.

  Description : declare author-only dependencies

Modules often have optional requirements, for example dependencies that
are useful for (optional) tests, but not required for the module to
 work properly.
 .
Usually you want all developers of a project to have these optional
modules installed. However, simply telling everyone or printing
diagnostic messages if optional dependencies are missing often isn't
enough to make sure all authors have all optional modules installed.
 .
Module::Install already has a way of detecting an author environment,
so an easy way to achieve the above would be something like:
 .
  if ($Module::Install::AUTHOR) {
requires 'Some::Module';
requires 'Another::Module' => '0.42';
  }
 .
Unfortunately, that'll also make the optional dependencies show up in
the distributions "META.yml" file, which is obviously wrong, as they
 aren't actually hard requirements.
 .
Working that around requires a considerable amount of non-trivial
Makefile.PL hackery, or simply using Module::Install::AuthorRequires's
 "author_requires" command.

  Description : generate a MANIFEST.SKIP file

 Module::Install::ManifestSkip generates a "MANIFEST.SKIP" file for you
(using Module::Manifest::Skip) that contains the common files that
people do not want in their "MANIFEST" files. The SKIP file is
generated each time that you (the module author) run "Makefile.PL".
 .
You can add your own custom entries at the top of the "MANIFEST" file.
Just put a blank line after your entries, and they will be left alone.
 .
This module also adds 'MANIFEST' to the "clean_files()" list so that
"make clean" will remove your "MANIFEST".

Description : postmodern Perl module packaging

 Module::Package is a drop-in replacement for Module::Install. It does
everything Module::Install does, but just a bit better.
 .
Actually this module is simply a wrapper around Module::Install. It
attempts to drastically reduce what goes in a Makefile.PL, while at the
same time, fixing many of the problems that people have had with
Module::Install (and other module frameworks) over the years.

QuaZIP is a simple C++ wrapper over Gilles Vollant's ZIP/UNZIP package that can
be used to access ZIP archives. It uses Trolltech's Qt toolkit.
.
QuaZIP provides complete abstraction of the ZIP/UNZIP API, for both
reading from
and writing to ZIP archives.

The packaging is done in the Debian Med team and available at

Bug#675528: Compiling PyOpenCL with ocl-icd-libopencl1

2012-06-04 Thread Tomasz Rybak
Hello.
Thanks for working on free OpenCL library - I hope it'll
help me solve #673992. Is there possibility that ocl-icd
will land in Wheezy?

I have tried to built PyOpenCL package with
ocl-icd-libopencl1 1.0-beta but it looks like it does not
provide all functions:
 import pyopencl._cl as _cl
ImportError: /usr/src/cuda/pyopencl/pyopencl-2011.2
+git20120602/build/lib.linux-x86_64-2.7/pyopencl/_cl.so: undefined
symbol: clUnloadCompiler

Should I fill bug report with upstream, or provide more details?

Best regards.

I have done some testing and I also get segmentation fault on some
OpenCL kernels. I haven't got segfault on your sample program.
I have been running PyOpenCL unit tests and:
1. test_clmath.py runs without any segfault
2. test_array.py runs without any segfault
3. test_wrapper.py segfaults in test_get_info (in cl.Image) and test_image2d (in
cl.image_from_array).

Initially I have suspected older amd-libopencl1 version (fglrx 12-4
does not work with X.org 12), but problem remains after updating
to 12-6-beta and rebuilding PyOpenCL. I have tested on 295.53
on NVIDIA ION. It looks like in some cases (not all) NVIDIA OpenCL
segfaults when run using AMD OpenCL management library.

I have tested with ocl-icd, which it ITPd by Vincent Danjean,
but there are some problems with compilation.
I do not know yet how to solve it, but shall let you know
when there is some solution.

Regards.

Router::Simple is a simple router class. Its main purpose is to serve
as a dispatcher for web applications. Router::Simple can match against
PSGI $env directly, which means it's easy to use with PSGI supporting

Until the 1.6.1 version it compiled fine.
After this version, I just upload the package to our git repository and
adjusted some little things like broken sim links and removed extra
license files.

> Is there anything you want me to do to help you get it up to speed?

Actually Piwik install only the files in the right path without
configuring it. My idea was to use debconf template (like phpBB package
does, for example)in order to configure/settings package correctly but
my skill about debconf is very poor, so I can't do it.

For starting again with Piwik package, this is what we need:

- upload to 1.8.1

- general package review: try to build and fix the lintian messages (I
saw the e-mail from Antoine just now but seem he has already discovered
many problems)

- debian/copyright: it needs to be reviewed again

- add debconf template

- swf files: understand what we can do with these files (old mine
message on d-mentors about this
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2011/03/msg00085.html )

I'm very happy to know there are other people interested in packaging
Piwik! That's a good news!
If you want, we can work all together for trying to upload (finally!! :)
Piwik in Debian.

Thanks Gunnar and thanks Antoine for your time.

Have a nice day.
Fabrizio.

Bug#448532: Packaging Piwik for Debian

2012-06-04 Thread Gunnar Wolf
Hi Fabrizio,

I have recently started using Piwik, and would love to have it as part
of Debian. I just found this bug report; finding you have kept
regularly updating the repository at least until last March (it does
not yet include the 1.8/1.8.1 releases, but they are very recent).

What is the overall state of the packaging? Is there anything you want
me to do to help you get it up to speed? We are (marginally, but
still) in time to get it included in Wheezy, and I'm interested in
putting some work to it :)

Greetings,

The DBusKit framework offers tight integration of D-Bus services into
Objective-C applications. It handles all low-level details of
communication with D-Bus daemons and the services connected to them and
exposes an interface similar to Distributed Objects to make it easy for
Objective-C programmers to access D-Bus services.

Features:

 * Distributed Objects-like API for exchanging messages with D-Bus

 * A notification center class for watching signals emitted by D-Bus

payload bit rate of 13.33 kbit/s with an encoding frame length of 30
ms and 15.20 kbps with an encoding length of 20 ms. The iLBC codec
enables graceful speech quality degradation in the case of lost
frames, which occurs in connection with lost or delayed IP
packets. iLBC is specified by RFC 3951.

The iLBC codec from RFC 3951 is "almost free" (source code available,
not DFSG-compatible). It has thus been incorperated in a number of
programs. It has not been very popular recently, but it is still used in
various places (Asterisk, Opal, Yate).

Lately GIPS, who originally wrote the codec, was purchaced by Google.
Later on Google provided an iLBC codec (and some others) as part of the
newly released WebRTC code. That code has no licensing issues, but it
provides a different API. This project provides an API mostly compatible
with the original RFC 3951 codec.

The library will be packaged by the pkg-voip team.

Bug#675467: ITP: bilibop -- run Debian from external media

2012-06-04 Thread quidame

Hi,

Le 2012-06-03 00:59, intrigeri a écrit :

Nice to hear. However, we're generally happy to replace custom code
with some generic code maintained by others than us, who seem to be
experts in the specific area this code is about -- especially when
our

own quick hack quickly shows its limits in unusual installations of
Tails. We try to cap our instance of the NIH syndrom to the
bare minimum.

The "wipe memory on shutdown" is a good feature, but seems to be very
hard to implement. About bilibop-common functions, you have to remember
that they apply only on (physical or virtual) block devices. Specific
functions have been written for aufs, but only for the case the
readonly
branch is the mountpoint of a block device. This means such functions
are

unusable if you run Tails entirely into RAM (I believe with the 'toram'
boot parameter, or something like that).

Ah, you mean *owned* by the "disk" vs. "floppy" group.
Now (and now that I've read the referenced bug) it's perfectly clear
:)

I don't think it's correct and clear to tell a drive is a "member" of
a group.

Yes. Annoying for me... I have to rewrite a part of the documentation.
I should begin tonight.

(fixes bug #645466).

I think s/fixes/is a way to workaround/ would be more correct.
Unfortunately, #645466 is likely to remain unfixed even once bilibop
is in Debian :(

*workaround*, why not. I say 'fix' to not say 'close'.

For example, you told me about Tails. So, boot on it (the LiveUSB,
of course) find the drive which your system is running from (here,
we say /dev/sdb), and, as the normal user, just type 'shred -vzn0
/dev/sdb'. Now your 'secured' system is lost.

Right. I'm glad we've learnt of this security issue. Thank you.
I've added it to our bug tracker:

https://tails.boum.org/bugs/writable_system_disk:_belongs_to_floppy_group/

Do you want to be credited for this discovery? (even if, formally
speaking, you did not report it to us: had I not read debian-devel,
I would probably not have learnt about it that soon, would I?)

mmmh... maybe this could give additional audience to my package :)
More seriously, I don't know. Why not? But I'm not alone. The author
of the bugreport #645466 could be credited too.

So, find the drive hosting the running system and protect it from
user mistakes is what I call 'fix a security issue' or 'make the
system more robust'.

Sure. I can't wait using it in Tails. Are there any difficulties you
think we may encounter in the process?

I have tried today with the last release of Tails. It works fine but
needs to modify two lines in the bilibop-common functions. This will
be available in my next 'dput' on mentors.debian.net. If you really
want to try it now, do as follows:
1. Boot Tails and open a session with password enabled
2. Get bilibop_0.1.tar.gz, unpack it and copy the relevant files:
   /lib/bilibop/rules.sh
   /lib/udev/bilibop_disk
   /lib/udev/rules.d/60-loopback.rules
   /lib/udev/rules.d/66-bilibop.rules
3. Copy the attachment of this message in
   /lib/bilibop/common.sh
4. If necessary, don't forget to change permissions of the files
5. Restart udev (this is mandatory) and trigger uevents
   $ sudo invoke-rc.d udev restart
   $ sudo udevadm trigger --action=add
   $ sudo udevadm trigger --action=change
6. Verify the result:
   $ ls -l /dev/sd*
   $ ls -l /dev/bilibop

But commands provided by bilibop-common (drivemap) and bilibop-rules
(lsbilibop) work partially. This is due to important changes in
base-files and udev packages. drivemap and lsbilibop could be easily
backported to Squeeze but in the other hand I think they are not so
important in the Tails context. Say me what you think about.

Please note that I did not mean to suggest bilibop does not fix
security issues or does not makes a system more robust: I was merely
pointing out that 1. the description was not explaining why and how
clearly enough to my taste; 2. I was interested and I wanted to know
more. Your reply looks like a good source of inspiration to make the
package description more thorough and precise.

I agree.

Other optional features for the desktop environment (based on
Udisks).

[...]
Looks like this could be useful for Tails persistence feature :)

Yes, this could be useful, but this could be useless too, if not
correctly configured: the user could be unable to access such or
such partition from Nautilus. Just remember that a feature as
'hide partitions' is either disabled or whitelist based (show all,
or hide all unless what is listed by: UUID, LABEL, TYPE or USAGE).

For Tails context/design, you should see in
/usr/share/doc/bilibop-rules/examples/90-internal-drives.rules
the rules titled A or C (forbid access to internal drives, even
by root).

I have send a RFS: #675532

I'll consider sponsoring this package. I expect my decision to be
mostly a function of whether there is some bilibop feature we can use
as is in Tails.

How much do you care about seeing bilibop shipped in Wheezy?
(I presume not much,

Bug#675919: ITP: libmtj-java -- Java library for developing numerical applications

2012-06-04 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tille

* Package name: libmtj-java
  Version : 0.9.14
  Upstream Author : Sam Halliday
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/matrix-toolkits-java
* License : LGPL-3+
  Programming Lang: Java
