Was packaged only because OpenOffice.org started to need it; LibreOffice
switched to liblcms2 so this one is completely out of my
interest now.

If noone wants to adopt it it probably should just be removed...
It had no upload besides the initial upload in 2011 and especially
since it doesn't have any r-deps anymore (and never had, OOo/LO just
build-depended on it)

Regards,

Rene

Package: wnpp

I request an adopter for the speedy-cgi-perl package.

The long description is:

SpeedyCGI is a way to run perl scripts persistently, which usually makes
them run much more quickly because it avoids the overhead of starting
up a new perl interpreter and compiling the perl code. It is also known
as PersistentPerl: while its most common use is with CGI scripts, it can
be used to speed up most perl programs.

The package is dead upstream, the last release was in 2003. I've kept
it alive in Debian until now and there are no serious problems, but
if somebody adopts it they should probably take over upstream too.

If nobody shows up in a month or so, I'll request removal from the Debian
archive. There are a few reverse dependencies that need to be taken care of
first though (at least request-tracker3.8 and smokeping).

Bug#707554: ITP: hyphen-ru -- Russian hyphenation patterns for LibreOffice/OpenOffice.org

2013-05-09 Thread Ильяс Гасанов
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ilyas Gasanov torso.n...@gmail.com

  Version : 20030310
  Upstream Author : Alexander I. Lebedev s...@scon155.phys.msu.su
* URL : http://scon155.phys.msu.su/~swan/hyphenation.html‎
* License : LPPL
  Programming Lang: none
Description : Russian hyphenation patterns for LibreOffice

I have patched Alexander Lebedev's hyphenation patterns (ruhyphal)
already found in the texlive-lang-cyrillic Debian package and the
ruhyphen CTAN package, so that they would work with LibreOffice. The
reason why I have chosen exactly these patterns is because, among those
released under a free license, they seem to give the best orphographical
results while their format is generally supported by LibreOffice.

These patterns have been released by the author under the terms of the
LaTeX project public license version 1.2 (with an option of choosing any
later version), thus I see no problems for my package to formally fit
the DFSG and be included into the main distribution branch.

Since I am not a Debian Developer yet, I'm uploading the complete
package to the mentors.debian.net storage for sponsorship approval.

Best regards,

Ilyas

Previous to Node v0.8.x, there was an undocumented keypress event that
process.stdin would emit when it was a TTY. Some people discovered this
hidden gem, and started using it in their own code.
 .
In Node v0.8.x (and above), this keypress event does not get emitted by
default,
but rather only when it is being used in conjuction with the readline (or
 by extension, the repl) module.
 .
This module is the exact logic from the node pre-v0.8.x releases ripped out
 into its own module.
 .
 Bonus: Now with mouse support!

Bug#707572: RFA: ant-phone -- An interactive ISDN telephone application

2013-05-09 Thread Roland Stigge
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

As both upstream maintainer and Debian maintainer, I can't fulfil my duties
anymore to support ant-phone, full description:

ant-phone is a graphical ISDN telephone application that can be utilized in
digital ISDN telephone networks to use a computer as an ISDN telephone. You'll
need a full duplex soundcard or multiple sound devices compatible and an ISDN
 card.

It's hard to get a current ISDN setup nowadays. (Real) ISDN will be phased out
soon in Germany (I'm expecting this during the jessie development cycle). I
currently don't have a working ISDN card for modern hardware, and the old one
doesn't have free drivers. Therefore, I can't test new revisions of this
package in Debian and will also officially cease to support the upstream
project.

However, it would be nice if someone shows up who is interested in upstream
and/or Debian development of this packages. Otherwise, I would request to
remove this package from jessie.

Thanks in advance,

Roland

Bug#691417: goblin-camp abandoned upstream

2013-05-09 Thread Olek Wojnar

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

This seems like an interesting concept but it was abandoned upstream
last year [1]. Considering it was only at v0.21 (which looks like it was
meant to be 0.2.1) I think someone would need to pick up development
upstream before it made sense to package this. Just my two cents...

Bug#692438: Rigs of Rods -- semi-official Arch Linux Package

2013-05-09 Thread Olek Wojnar

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

This seems like a pretty cool program. I remember it was Project of the
Month on SourceForge a few months back [1]. According to the project
wiki [2] there is a (looks like semi-official) Arch Linux package. In
case that makes things easier for someone interested in packaging this
for Debian. :)

Oops, a little too quick on the send there. Even better: the Google
found an Ubuntu PPA [1] with this package! So it should be (relatively)
straightforward to make a Debian package now, if someone has such an

Bug#707601: ITP: debmake -- helper script to make the Debian source package

2013-05-09 Thread Osamu Aoki
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Osamu Aoki os...@debian.org

* Package name: debmake
  Version : 4.0.0
Upstream Author : Osamu Aoki os...@debian.org
* URL : none yet
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python3
Description : helper script to make the Debian source package

This package helps you to convert a upstream source package (or VCS contents)
into the Debian package by adding files required for the Debian source
package. The generated debian/rules file uses the new dh command syntax from
 the debhelper (9) package.
 .
The debmake command invoked in the upstream source tree without any option
can generate template files which is good enough to create a single arch=any
Debian binary package for local use. The generated files should be edited to
make it conform to the Debian policy if the package is uploaded to the Debian
archive. By adding few options, this command can generate template files for
the arbitrary combination of the multi-binary and multi-arch package, etc.
 .
This debmake command also scans copyright and license texts in the source
files to help crafting the proper DEP-5 compatible debian/copyright file.

This is working here. This generates proper dh command line with --with ...
for python2 and python3 (with override lines). This also has options to use
upstream make dist or tarball as the starting point. I am cleaning up code
before upload. No problem for running multiple times and no more extra
template files unless requested.

FYI:
The author thanks previous efforts on this topic (GPL):
 * debmake: 1996-1997 Christoph Lameter clame...@debian.org
1997-2006 Santiago Vila sanv...@debian.org
command: deb-make, version up to 3.8 (shell script)
(not in wheezy)

 * dh-make: 1998-2012 Craig Small csm...@debian.org
command: dh_make (perl script)

Version starts from 4.0.0 since old debmake was 3.8.

debmake: make Debian source packageVersion: 4.0.0
Copyright © 2013 Osamu Aoki os...@debian.org

debmake builds the Debian package from the upstream source.
Normally, this is done as follows:
 * The upstream tarball is downloaded as the upstream-version.tar.gz file.
 * The upstream_version.orig.tar.gz symlink is generated pointing to the
upstream tarball.
 * It is untared to create many files under the upstream-version/ directory.
 * debmake is invoked in the upstream-version/ directory without any arguments.
 * Files in the upstream-version/debian/ directory are manually adjusted.
 * dpkg-buildpackage is invoked in the upstream-version/ directory to make
debian packages.

optional arguments:
-h, --helpshow this help message and exit
  -a upstream-version.tar.gz, --archive upstream-version.tar.gz
use the upstream source tarball directly (-p, -u, -z:
overridden)
-d, --distrun make dist equivalent first to generate upstream
tarball and use it
  -p package_name, --package package_name
set the Debian package name
  -u upstream_version, --upstreamversion upstream_version
set the upstream package version
  -r debian_revision, --revision debian_revision
set the Debian package revision
  -z extension, --targz extension
set the tarball type,
extension=(tar.gz|tar.bz2|tar.xz)
  -b package[:type], --binaryspec package[:type]
set binary package specs,
package=(-|-doc|-dev|-common|-bin|-dbg),
type=(all|any|foreign|same)

   (This can have -bpackage1:type1,package2:type2,package3:type3)

  -c license_file, --copyright license_file
add formatted license to debian/copyright
  -e f...@example.org, --email f...@example.org
set e-mail address

Description : Ubuntu One structured data storage - Python API

U1DB is a database API for synchronised databases of JSON documents. It’s
simple to use in applications, and allows apps to store documents and
synchronise them between machines and devices. U1DB itself is not a database:
instead, it’s an API which can be backed by any database for storage. This
means that you can use U1DB on different platforms, from different languages,
and backed on to different databases, and sync between all of them. It's built
to sync with your own servers or with Ubuntu One.

Bug#694257: fdk-aac: who knows more?

2013-05-09 Thread Adam M. Costello
Fabian Greffrath fab...@greffrath.com:

Is fdk-aac finally the first *free* high-quality AAC encoder or is it
just the next *non-free* one after FAAC?

From what I've read, FAAC is not a high-quality AAC encoder. As far as
I know, fdk-aac is the only high-quality open-source AAC encoder.

I don't know if fdk-aac is DFSG-free, or GPL-compatible, but even if
it's neither, Debian could still package it, right? There's also a
command-line tool, fdkaac, that uses it.

Of course, the library would be much more useful if avconv could use it.
If libfdk-aac is GPL-incompatible, what does that imply? That avconv
must not require libfdk-aac to be present at runtime? Could it check
for the existence of libfdk-aac and dlopen() it if it's found? Would
that make them independent enough that their licenses wouldn't need to
be compatible?

It's a shame that various open-source licenses fight each other and thus
impede rather than promote the development of free software.

Bug#707649: RFA: sentinella -- System monitor that can react to user chosen conditions

2013-05-09 Thread Niels Thykier
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I am not using sentinella on a regular basis and I think it (and its
upstream) would be better served with a more dedicated maintainer.
You need not be a DD or a DM; I am willing to sponsor updates.
Alternatively, I am more than willing to co-maintain with you.

Should you be interesting in taking over sentinella, you probably also
want to take over/co-maintain libsysactivity (same upstream).

~Niels

Some information about sentinella:

Package: sentinella

Bug#694257: fdk-aac: who knows more?

2013-05-09 Thread Carlos Alberto Lopez Perez

 Fabian Greffrath fab...@greffrath.com:

Is fdk-aac finally the first *free* high-quality AAC encoder or is it
just the next *non-free* one after FAAC?

From what I've read, FAAC is not a high-quality AAC encoder. As far as
I know, fdk-aac is the only high-quality open-source AAC encoder.

 I don't know if fdk-aac is DFSG-free, or GPL-compatible, but even if
it's neither, Debian could still package it, right? There's also a
command-line tool, fdkaac, that uses it.

Yes. If you are interested in packaging it, please go ahead.

The thing is that libav (ffmpeg) is LGPL (not GPL). So, my understanding
is that it shouldn't be a problem to use a third-party library (fdk-aac
or whatever) even if this library is GPL-incompatible (or even proprietary).

I tried to clarify this point with libav developers [1]. But the replies
I got where not clear to me so I gave up. They seem to be more
interested in improving the internal AAC encoder of libav.

I still think that it shouldn't be any problem by linking libav with
fdk-aac or any other library given the LGPL license of libav. But I am
not a lawyer, maybe I'm wrong.

It's a shame that various open-source licenses fight each other and thus
impede rather than promote the development of free software.

Yes. I agree. This whole incompatibility between open source licenses is
a complete mess and a PITA for everybody.

I was pushing to ensure that the copyleft-next license that Richard
Fontana is creating address this specific point [2]

Regards!

Bug#694257: fdk-aac: who knows more?

As far as I understand you are indeed mistaken about the difference
between GPL and LGPL.

The reason why GPL licensed software cannot use a GPL-incompatible
library is that the resulting binary inherits both licenses. If the
licenses are not compatible, the binary cannot be legally distributed at
all (it has no valid license).

The usual reason why certain licenses are not compatible with the GPL is
the clause that says You may not impose any further restrictions on the
recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein. causing a license
that has a clause that the GPL does not have to immediately become
incompatible (the BSD advertisement clause is the most common one, for
example OpenSSL has this). This problematic clause is the exact same in
both GPL and LGPL.

The difference between the GPL and the LGPL does solve the problem if
the program you are developing wants to link to both LGPL licensed and
GPL incompatible libraries, assuming that the license of the program
itself is not either GPL or LGPL. Parts of libav are GPL and the rest is
LGPL, thus the problem remains.
