Bug#708122: ITP: pjsip -- VoIP library implementing SIP and related protocols

2013-05-13 Thread Tzafrir Cohen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Tzafrir Cohen

* Package name: pjsip
  Version : 2.1.0.0.ast20130312
  Upstream Author : http://www.teluu.com/
* URL : http://pjsip.org/
* License : GPL2+ (with OpenSSL exceptions)
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : VoIP library implementing SIP and related protocols

 multimedia communication library implementing standard based protocols
 such as SIP, SDP, RTP, STUN, TURN, and ICE. It combines signaling
 protocol (SIP) with multimedia framework and NAT traversal functionality
 into high level multimedia communication API that is portable and
 suitable for almost any type of systems ranging from desktops, embedded
 systems, to mobile handsets.

PJSIP (a.k.a PJProject. pjsip may refer to only one of its components,
implementing the SIP protocol) is normally built as a static library and
embedded in projects. It is currently embedded in sflphone (any other
package?).

Asterisk 11 uses an embedded copy of pjsip for some extra features in
the SIP channel driver. Asterisk >= 12 (current trunk) will use it as
the base for its SIP channel driver (and possibly more things). In order
to avoid an embedded copy of the library, the developers of Asterisk
maintain their own copy of pjsip which is dynamically-linked[1]. This
packaging is based on that copy. According to them this patch set should
be merged back to the pjsip maintainers by October (when Asterisk 12 is
released).

Initial packaging could be found at [2] (named "pjproject"). Packages
built from it: at [3]. Specifically, I'm not exactly sure if we need
more than the single -dev package / component. See [4].

Yes. But seemingly incremental features are not so easy to add to
dh-make.

> Why should we have this in the archive as a
> separate package, instead of improving the existing tool? Dividing efforts
> between two packages seems like a sure recipe for both tools falling behind
> in the long term.

The design of dh-make code is roughly:
 * It only supports fixed PACKAGE CLASSES.
   * Single binary
   * Arch-Independent
   * Multiple binary
   * Library
   (Total 6 but no multi-arch support, no dh --with support etc.)
 * Each PACKAGE CLASS is represented by a set of template files.
 * It basically copy them by choosing a PACKAGE CLASS.
 * Customization is only via text substitution while copying.

I thought this fundamental rigidness needs to be changed to make this
more flexible.

Since accommodating "multi-arch support", "--with arguments support",
"license scan with binary check", ... require rewriting almost all of
the code. So I did this.

Anyway, if you try this program, I think you understand. It is already
uploaded to NEW. For example,

For simple arch any single package, you need only this:
 $ debmake
 $ debuild
So this much, it is equivalent to dh-make.

You can make multi-binary multi-arch packages with:
 $ debmake -b "foo,foo-doc,libfoo1,libfoo-dev,libfoo-dbg"

This should make 5 packages with multi-arch support.

If package is autotools based but has Python code:

 $ debmake -w python2 -b"foo:all,foo-doc"

This should make 2 packages. This not only add -w python2 to dh but
also adjusts debian/control.

Theese packaging choices are almost impossible with dh-make program
framework. Thus my reason to rewrite this.

This may be still buggy and may needs some more work. I was thinking to
update maint-guide using this so I need to be less wordy and the debmake
program does more.

Osamu

PS: Except for scanning copyright text, code is small enough. The whole
code is only 2275 lines including main part of the template text.

Bug#708132: ITP: bcache-tools -- These are the userspace tools required for bcache.

2013-05-13 Thread tstrickx
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: tstri...@rootcu.be

* Package name: bcache-tools
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Kent Overstreet
* URL : http://bcache.evilpiepirate.org/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : These are the userspace tools required for bcache.

Bcache is a patch for the Linux kernel to use SSDs to cache other block
devices. For more information, see http://bcache.evilpiepirate.org.
Documentation for the run time interface is included in the kernel tree, in
Documentantion/bcache.txt.

Included tools:

make-bcache
Formats a block device for use with bcache. A device can be formatted for use
as a cache or as a backing device (requires yet to be implemented kernel
support). The most important option is for specifying the bucket size.
Allocation is done in terms of buckets, and cache hits are counted per bucket;
thus a smaller bucket size will give better cache utilization, but poorer write
performance. The bucket size is intended to be equal to the size of your SSD's
erase blocks, which seems to be 128k-512k for most SSDs; feel free to
experiment.

probe-bcache
Only necessary until support for the bcache superblock is included
in blkid; in the meantime, provides just enough functionality for a udev script
to create the /dev/disk/by-uuid symlink. The arguments it does support are the
same as for blkid.

bcache-super-show
Prints the bcache superblock of a cache device or a backing device.

Laborejo, Esperanto for "Workshop", is used to craft music through notation.
.
It is a graphical user interface for Lilypond, a MIDI creator and finally
a tool collection to inspire and help you compose. You get beautifully
engraved notation through Lilypond and nice ways to control the playback
without ever leaving a notation-based environment.

Oh, that's great! Thanks a lot for pointing me to it, I did a search for
that package but have missed it obviously.

However, at least this proves the usefulness of ITP bug reports ... ;-)

Also, is there any relation between this and the old 'debmake' package
or they just happen to have the same name?

The description should not refer to 'a patch for the Linux kernel',
because bcache support is now included in Linux 3.10-rc1.

Bug#708171: ITP: clonezilla -- bare metal backup and recovery of disk drives

  Description : bare metal backup and recovery of disk drives
 Clonezilla is an OpenSource clone system (OCS) solution with
 unicasting and multicasting.
 .
 Clonezilla, based on drbl, partclone and udpcast, allows you to do
 bare metal backup and recovery. This package provides Clonezilla SE
 (server edition) which is for massive deployment: it can clone many
 (40 plus!) computers simultaneously.
 .
 Clonezilla saves and restores only used blocks in the harddisk. This
 increases the clone efficiency. At the NCHC's Classroom C, Clonezilla
 SE was used to clone 41 computers simultaneously. It took only about
 10 minutes to clone a 5.6 GBytes system image to all 41 computers via
 multicasting.

Bug#666490: O: svgalib -- console SVGA display libraries

I've looked into this; svgalib's reverse dependencies are:
* bochs (bochs-svga)
* gnuboy (gnuboy-svga)
* lcdproc (no svgalib-specific package)
* links2 (no svgalib-specific package)
* mplayer (no svgalib-specific package)
* qcam (no svgalib-specific package)
* spectemu (spectemu-svga)
* synaesthesia (no svgalib-specific package)
* thrust (no svgalib-specific package)
* tmview (dvisvga)
* zgv (no svgalib-specific package)

Apart from mplayer and zgv, all of these rebuild fine without
libsvga1-dev; they can use X and some can use fb (I can provide
patches of course and NMU where necessary). mplayer FTBFS anyway
because of changes in liblivemedia (#708140). zgv only builds a
svgalib-based binary; it can in theory be built with SDL instead but
that fails. All the svgalib-specific packages have low popcon scores.

Regards,

Stephen

Bug#708179: ITP: libcatalyst-dispatchtype-regex-perl -- Regex DispatchType for Catalyst

2013-05-13 Thread Florian Schlichting

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Catalyst-DispatchType-Regex/

  Description : Regex DispatchType for Catalyst

Regex dispatch types have been deprecated and removed from Catalyst
core. If your application depends on regex dispatch, you can install
this package to keep things working while migrating to Chained methods
or other techniques.
.
Please note that as part of the refactoring, the dispatch priority of
Regex vs Regexp vs LocalRegex vs LocalRegexp may have changed. Priority
is now influenced by when the dispatch type is first seen in your
application.

Bug#572289: gkrellm-cpufreq: changing back from ITP to RFP

Short update.

Packaging is work-in-progress [1] and should be done in a few
weeks. I am currently just way too busy with other stuff, like
reviewing and sponsoring the MATE desktop.

Cheers,

Bug#655889: munin still needs your love

2013-05-13 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

just to update on the current status of munin maintainance. From #munin on
irc.oftc.net:

 foo, don't you want an entry in the maintainers: field of munins
debian/control? ;)
* h01ger would like to see approx. 50 bugs closed in the debian package in
jessie's life^wdevelopment cycle
 and i'm thinking about removing TheSnide and Tom Feiner from there,
to reflect the reality that its ssm and me left

(There are currently 63 open bugs against src:munin. Roughly half are probably
upstream issues though. ;)

cheers,
Holger

Bug#673426: Yes please

2013-05-13 Thread Tim Day
Just a vote in favour of this one.

One the unexpected consequences (to me) of the Squeeze-to-Wheezy upgrade
of my home machine was no longer being able run Evolution in a
tightvncserver (to VNC-over-SSH into it from offsite)... because
Evolution now appears to be built on the clutter toolkit (which uses
OpenGL for rendering).

More at
http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/75621/how-to-get-evolution-to-run-in-vnc-on-debian-wheezy

So far, VirtualGL looks to be the best bet for fixing this.
