Bug#721451: O: nagircbot -- IRC bot that announces Nagios status

2013-08-31 Thread John Morrissey
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm orphaning the nagircbot package. There are plenty of (IMO) better and
more actively maintained alternatives now, like hubot+hubot-irc (MIT
license) or Bot::BasicBot::Pluggable::Module::Nagios (GPL), and popcon stats
for this package are in the single digits.

The package description is:
An IRC (Internet Relay Chat) bot that reads Nagios' status information and
emits alerts to an IRC channel. It can filter alerts based on severity
(CRITICAL, HARD, SOFT, and/or UNKNOWN) or by regular expression. It can
connect to IRC servers protected by password or SSL, and can optionally set
the topic to the current Nagios status.

Bug#721447: RFP: xchroot -- extended chroot with X11/Xorg forwarding and aufs/unionfs support for read only roots

2013-08-31 Thread Elmar Stellnberger

Package: wnpp
Version: 2.3; issued 2013-08-28
Subject: RFP: xchroot -- extended chroot with X11/Xorg forwarding and
aufs/unionfs support for read only roots

Severity: wishlist

* Package name : xchroot
Version : 2.3
Upstream Author : Elmar Stellnberger
* URL : http://www.elstel.org/xchroot
* License : QPL-like; see for the program header or run the program with
--license
Description : xchroot is a little convenience bash script that will
allow you to run X-based programs in your chroot environment.
You may also chroot to a new environment without touching any of its
files either by using aufs and unionfs. You
may backup your temporary changes on exit and kill of xchroot as
squashfs and incrementally restore them.

--
xchroot will be simple to package:
chmod +x and copy the program to /sbin;
changelog, license, and contact address are currently located in the
header of the bash script; license can be printed with xchroot --license
note: future versions may come as .tar.gz including sub-programs and a
man page
(as long as there is no man page for xchroot you may simply package the
index.html into /usr/share/doc)
you will get update notifications via http://www.elstel.org/elstel.rss
(for xchroot among other content on elstel)

why you should prefer packaging xchroot from elstel over xchroot from
mosquito:
* the program is known to deliver good quality since years and is also
officially recommended by the openSUSE build service guide
* the program is being actively developed; completely new features are
planned.
* there is a good online documentation for the program which does also
leverage usage by casual users and users new to Linux
* the incremental --save and --restore options not supported by mosquito
will make life of packagers easy and leverage usage from read-only root
file systems like roots on blue ray
* unionfs as well as aufs support guarantee for a broad applicability;
f.i. when dual booting between a distribution that only supports unionfs

* support also for casual users

why you should not package xchroot from mosquito:
* no accomplished cleanup, kill -9 of processes, bugs and fallacies I do
not want to talk about.
* writing a completely different program and then giving it the same
name as an already existent program will confuse innocent users (mine
has already been there for years and it has been published under the
name xchroot for a much longer time.)

* the program has not been tested well under different conditions
* no unionfs, no socat, no incremental restore, no good automounting
support.

* no backward compatibility with Debian 6.0.x
* the authors did not respond at all on my request to join the work on
elstel and to put xchroot under a better, generally accepted license

License: should be oss-compliant; author wants patches to be officially
acknowledged by elstel.org; i.e. to make them available to all users
even those who continue to download xchroot directly and those who use
another distro.

Download: may also use https

P.S.: I believe it would also be good choice to support this script
under the rescue console. When chrooting to a Debian installation you
will otherwise have to mount a lot while mounting everything of use is
still too much for manual mounting. This is a very common task for
maintenance activities; I even do that when running grub-install.

thanks for wanting to contribute to Debian.

I though see one big issue with beagrep with regards to its inclusion
in Debian:

The Beagle desktop search engine has been removed from Debian in 2010
due to being unmaintained upstream and buggy. See
http://bugs.debian.org/579567 for details.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beagle_(software) upstream
development ceased already in 2009 and the former project website
(http://www.beagle-project.org/) now belongs to a different project.

>From the package description and website it seems that beagrep is
quite tied to using Beagle as backend.

Looking at commits like
https://github.com/baohaojun/beagrep/commit/f0114da60 and the code it
touched, it seems as if you include a (now renamed) copy of Beagle's
source code.

So I wonder if this is more or less an unmodified copy of Beagle of if
you took over maintenance of the Beagle engine's source code yourself.
Given that the only commit in
https://github.com/baohaojun/beagrep/commits/master/BeagrepClient is a
renaming from two years ago, the Beagle code looks quite original and
still unmaintained.

Just embedding Beagle's source into your project doesn't make the
issues mentioned in http://bugs.debian.org/579567 go away, they're
just hidden, at least to some extent.

Such issues are the reason why Debian strongly discourages the
inclusion of embedded code copies. See
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-source.html#s-embeddedfiles
for the reasoning.

It seems to me that the only desktop search engine currently shipped
with Debian is Doodle (http://www.gnunet.org/doodle/,
http://packages.debian.org/stable/doodle) -- maybe you can use Doodle
as backend instead, or perhaps as additional backend.

Regards, Axel

Bug#721441: O: hlbrw -- assistant to help make new rules to HLBR

2013-08-31 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The project HLBR was abandoned and the software has several bugs. It should
not be used on current networks (upstream recommendation)[1].

The HLBRW code is ok but is useful to HLBR only. The HLBR was "orphaned"[2].
Thus, I am leavingthis package.

PS: I am an upstream of the HLBR and HLBRW.

Great, thanks for making that available, I've tried 17 and I've filed a
couple of bug reports about upgrade experience but otherwise it works
for me although I haven't yet tried all features I normally use.

I found the solution to my problem using the connector

I can confirm that both the TB10 and TB17 connectors from upstream work
with the respective icedove versions in wheezy against a DAViCal server
on wheezy.

The reason it didn't work for me in the beginning is because the default
config in DAViCal is for a calendar-only resource.

Somehow, Evolution was able to use the calendar-only resource to store
vCards: that seems like a bug in both DAViCal and Evolution, they
shouldn't allow that. However, that left me thinking there was
something wrong with the SOGo Connector because it couldn't see the
contacts the Evolution could create and retrieve.

When I started looking around in the DAViCal settings, I realised I had
to create another resource for my address book and DAViCal creates a
different URL for that. I put that new address book URL in the SOGo
Connector and it is working.

It would be useful if the connector could give users a helpful error if
they misconfigure it like that, I had no useful error to help me and I
was just guessing what was wrong.

One minor problem left, Icedove address book only allows up to 2 email
addresses per contact but Evolution and Android allow more than 2. It
is not clear to me whether changing those contacts in Icedove's address
book will result in the loss of the extra email addresses when they sync.

2013-08-31 Thread Paolo Greppi
Package: wnpp

Hi to work around the problem of missing license for
src/FlightCrew/Schemas/ncx-2005-1.dtd, I propose to:

1) gather a large pool of freely-licensed epub files, possibly from
different sources and produced with different tools

2) extract the ncx files

3) run them though DTDGenerator

4) clean up and find a structure that matches them all

5) test by validing the pool of ncx files with the unfied dtd

Example :

wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/saxon/dtdgen7-0.zip
unzip dtdgen7-0.zip
wget -O a.epub http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/24754.epub.noimages
unzip a.epub
java -cp dtdgen.jar DTDGenerator 24754/toc.ncx > output.dtd

I attach the output. What do you think ?

Bug#721430: RFP: crosstool-ng

2013-08-31 Thread Samuel Halliday
Package: wnpp

The crosstool-ng package: http://crosstool-ng.org
is by far the best solution for building cross compilers. It has many advanced
options for the target platform, including the most important detail of CPU
architecture, kernel and CLIB.

This beats the pants off the cross compilers bundled with debian, which tend to
have bizarre choices for the CLIB, making cross-compilation itself a pain. With
crosstool-ng cross compilers, once simply invokes the gcc as if it were a
native gcc.

This wishlist is to:

1. have the crosstool-ng builder distributed with debian, including all the
packages that it needs to build the cross-compilers.
2. distribute some popular targets, such as the raspberry pi with HF and EGLIBC
libraries.

If point 2 is met, debian will easily become the cross-compilation platform of
choice for the rapsberrypi. It is surprisingly difficult to cross compile for
it.

(next up: haskell cross compilers ;-))

shellex is supposed to be a dmenu-style launcher with a lot more
features and a lot simpler design. It launches a shell (currently zsh)
and shows it in a small terminal, wrapping every command with a little
bit of extra magic (redirecting stdout, stderr, disowning and closing
the shell) to get more typical launcher-behaviour.
 .
This gives you a simple launcher with tab-completion and other
 shell-features, configurable in shell.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jonas Smedegaard

* Package name: haskell-swish
  Version : 0.9.0.3
  Upstream Author : Douglas Burke
* URL : https://bitbucket.org/doug_burke/swish/wiki/Home
* License : GPL-2+~Swish
  Programming Lang: Haskell
  Description : semantic web toolkit

Swish is a framework for performing deductions in RDF data using a
variety of techniques. Swish is conceived as a toolkit for
experimenting with RDF inference, and for implementing stand-alone RDF
file processors (usable in similar style to CWM, but with a view to
being extensible in declarative style through added Haskell function
and data value declarations). It explores Haskell as "a scripting
 language for the Semantic Web".
 .
Swish is a work-in-progress, and currently incorporates:
 .
  * Turtle, Notation3 and NTriples input and output. The N3 support is
incomplete (no handling of @forAll).
  * RDF graph isomorphism testing and merging.
  * Display of differences between RDF graphs.
  * Inference operations in forward chaining, backward chaining and
proof-checking modes.
  * Simple Horn-style rule implementations, extendable through variable
binding modifiers and filters.
  * Class restriction rule implementation, primarily for datatype
inferences.
  * RDF formal semantics entailment rule implementation.
  * Complete, ready-to-run, command-line and script-driven programs.

The OAuth protocol enables websites or applications (Consumers) to access
Protected Resources from a web service (Service Provider) via an API, without
requiring Users to disclose their Service Provider credentials to the
Consumers. More generally, OAuth creates a freely-implementable and generic
 methodology for API authentication.

Due to scarce resources and lack of interest in maintaining packages I
cannot use due to non-GPL compatible licensing I request an adopter for
the coinutils package.

The package description is:
CoinUtils (Coin-or Utilities) is a collection of classes that are generally
useful to more than one COIN-OR project. These include vector, matrix, mps
 file reading classes.
 .
COIN-OR (COmputational INfrastructure for Operations Research project) is
an initiative to spur the development of open source software in operational
 research - mathematical optimization algorithms.
 .
This package contains the header files for developers.
