I already distrubute the packages using our own repo

rather them included directly in Debian and derivatives

2013-10-22 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

* Package name: gnome-shell-extension-teatime

  Upstream Author : Olaf Leidinger ol...@mescharet.de
* URL or Web page : https://github.com/oleid/gnome-shell-teatime.git

  Description : tea brewing timer extension for GNOME Shell

 gnome-shell-extension-teatime is an extension for helping in brewing tea
 in GNOME Shell, featuring support for various configurable timers.

I'd like to team-maintain this package under the GNOME team umbrella.
Thoughts about this?

Initial packaging:
git://gaffer.ptitcanardnoir.org/gnome-shell-extension-teatime.git

I also have a few minor bugfixes I'd like to see upstream merge
before uploading this extension to Debian.

Cheers,

 It looks like it's still based on the same inadequate word list data that I
 originally packaged more than a decade ago. At that time, it was the best we
 had, so it made sense to package it. Since then, there has been no upstream
 activity, and the Debian development has consisted of adopting to changes in
 the consumer packages.

 Now we have src:suomimalaga which is based on technology much better suited
 for
 handling the complexities of Finnish and appears to be well maintained both
 upstream and in Debian.

No disagreement in 15 months, so let's go ahead with the removal.

Chris Bannister wrote:

 This module is a object container interface which supports

Wrong article (s/a/an/).

 both OO interface and Singleton interface.

Missing article(s) and a confusing profusion of interfaces.

Aren't Singleton classes themselves necessarily OO?

(When should singleton get a capital S?)

 If you want to use one module from several places, you might use

Places in what sense? I don't understand the problem - what's
stopping me saying use Foo wherever necessary?

 Class::Singleton to access the module from any places.

Any places should be... something different. And this sentence
seems repetitive. But I'm not sure what it's trying to say. Why
would I want to use Class::Singleton to access a module?

 But you should subclass each modules to singletonize.

Each should probably be followed by singular module, but I can't
follow this. Does it mean in order to singletonize (something) you
should subclass each module? Or maybe Each module which is to be
singletonized should be subclassed? Or You should subclass each and
every module, so that singletonization occurs? Or... what?

 This module provide singleton container instead of module itself,

Wrong agreement (provides), missing article(s). But what is it trying
to say? This X provides a Y instead of X itself? My brain hurts.

 so it is easy to singleton multiple classes.

 Is it easier to use a noun as a verb than explain it in plain English?

It could at least have re-used singletonize instead of invoking it
as a one-off.

Bug#727078: ITP: libobject-container-perl -- simple object container

2013-10-22 Thread Marius Gavrilescu
Justin B Rye justin.byam@gmail.com writes:

 I'd love to be able to provide a version that's in grammatical

And this is why I copied upstream's description instead of trying to
write an english one. Perhaps it would be easier to ask
debian-japanese@l.d.o to translate [0].

That being said, I read the rest of the documentation and the code
examples and it looks like this module is a glorified hash from class
names to objects of that class. If you want to have a single instance
of, for example, WWW::Mechanize in many different files/functions/etc,
you do CObject::Container-register('WWW::Mechanize') somewhere and then
you can retrieve that instance of WWW::Mechanize from anywhere else with
CObject::Container-get('WWW::Mechanize').

The description compares this module to Class::Singleton, which is also
used to make singletons out of classes. To use Class::Singleton, you
subclass it and it gives you a nice Cinstance method that returns the
single instance.

# Class::Singleton is a similar module, which makes subclasses

Bug#727146: ITP: dooble -- WebKit based light browser

2013-10-22 Thread Felix Geyer
Please don't introduce any new browsers that use QtWebkit into the archive.

QtWebkit receives no security support once it's branched from webkit trunk.
The current QtWebkit version in unstable hasn't picked up security fixes
for over 2 years.
Since Qt decided to switch to Blink it's probably going to get even worse.

The description [...] to create a safe browsing environment is almost
cynical in this regard.

Cheers,
Felix

 I already distrubute the packages using our own repo
 https://github.com/facebook/hhvm/wiki/Prebuilt-Packages-on-Debian-7 but I'd
 rather them included directly in Debian and derivatives

Hello Paul,

Would you be so kind to produce a source package and publish the Debian
source somewhere? Maybe it could be provided in a Debian branch in the
github repository?

Bug#727169: RFP: lua-stdlib -- Standard Lua libraries

2013-10-22 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: lua-stdlib
  Version : v35
  Upstream Author : Reuben Thomas et al.
* URL or Web page : https://github.com/rrthomas/lua-stdlib
* License : MIT
  Description : Standard Lua libraries

Upstream description:

  This is a collection of Lua libraries for Lua 5.1 and 5.2. The
  libraries are copyright by their authors 2000-2013 (see the AUTHORS
  file for details), and released under the MIT license (the same
  license as Lua itself). There is no warranty.

  Stdlib has no prerequisites beyond a standard Lua system.

I maintain GNU Zile in Debian. Upstream currently works on a
reimplementation of Zile in Lua which seems to become Zile 3.

This library seems to be a dependency for that rewrite.

Bug#727170: RFP: lua-alien -- Pure Lua extensions

2013-10-22 Thread Axel Beckert

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: lua-alien
  Version : 0.7.0

* URL or Web page : http://mascarenhas.github.io/alien/
* License : MIT
  Description : Pure Lua extensions

Upstream description:

  Alien is a Foreign Function Interface (FFI) for Lua. An FFI lets you
  call functions in dynamic libraries (.so, .dylib, .dll, etc.) from Lua
  code without having to write, compile and link a C binding from the
  library to Lua. In other words, it lets you write extensions that call
  out to native code using just Lua.

I maintain GNU Zile in Debian. Upstream currently works on a
reimplementation of Zile in Lua which seems to become Zile 3.

This library seems to be a dependency for that rewrite.

Bug#727078: ITP: libobject-container-perl -- simple object container

  I'd love to be able to provide a version that's in grammatical
  English, but I don't understand what it's trying to say well enough to

 And this is why I copied upstream's description instead of trying to
 write an english one. Perhaps it would be easier to ask
 debian-japanese@l.d.o to translate [0].

 That being said, I read the rest of the documentation and the code
 examples and it looks like this module is a glorified hash from class
 names to objects of that class. If you want to have a single instance
 of, for example, WWW::Mechanize in many different files/functions/etc,
 you do CObject::Container-register('WWW::Mechanize') somewhere and then
 you can retrieve that instance of WWW::Mechanize from anywhere else with
 CObject::Container-get('WWW::Mechanize').

Now THAT is a better explanation, why not put that in the long
description? It also doesn't use that horrible term 'singletonize' :)
