   * New maintainer, reupload to archive. This is mostly the previous
packaging with RC bug fixes - a bunch of additional work needs to
be done to modernise this (closes: #729717).
   * Remove yet more non-free docs (closes: #695799, #709501).
   * Fix many build failures due to texinfo5. Some of these fixes are
far from ideal and will need to be revisited (closes: #712316).

Description : A digital genetics model to run Evolution Experiments
in silico

Aevol is a digital genetics model: populations of digital organisms
are subjected to a process of selection and variation,

 which creates a Darwinian dynamics.
By modifying the characteristics of selection (e.g. population size,
type of environment, environmental variations)
or variation (e.g. mutation rates, chromosomal rearrangement rates,
types of rearrangements, horizontal transfer),
one can study experimentally the impact of these parameters on the
structure of the evolved organisms.
In particular, since Aevol integrates a precise and realistic model of
the genome, it allows for the study of structural
variations of the genome (e.g. number of genes, synteny, proportion of
coding sequences).

 .
The simulation platform comes along with a set of tools for analysing
phylogenies and measuring many characteristics of

the organisms and populations along evolution.

Litecoin is a free open source peer-to-peer electronic cash system that
is completely decentralized, without the need for a central server or
trusted parties. Users hold the crypto keys to their own money and
transact directly with each other, with the help of a P2P network to
check for double-spending. Litecoin is a fork of Bitcoin.

http://askmonty.org/wiki/index.php/MariaDB :

===  What is MariaDB?

MariaDB is a community developed branch of the MySQL database that
uses the Maria engine by default.

=== What is the goal of MariaDB?

To provide a community developed, stable, and always Free branch
of MySQL that is, on the user level, compatible with the main
version. We strive for total interoperability with our upstreams
and our own community.

MariaDB will be kept up to date with the latest MySQL release from
the same branch. For example MariaDB 5.1 will be kept up to date
with MySQL 5.1.

We will do a merge from the MySQL branch for every new MySQL
release or when there is some fatal bugfix applied to the main
branch.

We strive to keep our main trees as free from bugs as possible. It
should be reasonably safe to pull from our trees at any time. We
work to provide builds of the main branch and active development
branches every month.

NCAR Command Language and NCAR Graphics

The NCAR Command Language (NCL) is a free interpreted language designed
specifically for scientific data processing and visualization. NCL has robust
file input and output. It can read and write netCDF-3, netCDF-4 classic (as
of version 4.3.1), HDF4, binary, and ASCII data, and read HDF-EOS2, GRIB1 and
GRIB2 (as of version 4.3.0). The graphics are world class and highly
customizable.

As of version 5.0.0, NCL and NCAR Graphics are released as one package.

The software comes with a couple of useful command line tools:

  * ncl_filedump - prints the contents of supported files (netCDF, HDF,
GRIB1, GRIB2, HDF-EOS2, and CCM History Tape)
  * ncl_convert2nc - converts one or more GRIB1, GRIB2, HDF and/or HDF-EOS
files to netCDF formatted files.

Package: mysql-server
Version: 5.5.24+dfsg-8
Severity: wishlist

My very technically savvy webhost has recently switched from MySQL to
MariaDB and claim it's for both technical and political reasons.

Both of these reasons (better performance and better licensing) appear
to be good reasons for the software to be packaged as a Debian package
and I expect it's getting to the point that someone will do it themselves.

BUT the software is technically still not a forked variant of MySQL
but a patched version where the maintainers continually resync to the
Oracle releases. For this reason I would like to see it treated as just
a simple MySQL version within Debian. This way the users (ie: me) can
simply switch by prodding apt in the right way.

For this to work seamlessly (unlike, for example, the recent multimedia
troubles) the MariaDB package should be packaged identically to MySQL,
which IMO is best done by the same Debian maintainers.

So my request is that you package the MariaDB as a secondary version of
MySQL in such a way that the two packages can be seamlessly switched
within the Debian system.

Bug#732820: O: libpdf-fdf-simple-perl -- Perl module to read and write (Acrobat) FDF files

2013-12-21 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

the maintainer of libpdf-fdf-simple-perl isn't active anymore, so I
hereby orphan this package.

Current package description:

Perl module to read and write (Acrobat) FDF files

Helps creating and extracting the content of FDF files. It is meant to
be a simple replacement for the Adobe FdfToolkit. Therefore some of it's
behavior, especially handling of diverse whitespace/newline artefacts is
orientated on FdfToolkit's handling.

After the extraction process the content is available within a hash
reference.

For creating FDF files it currently only supports setting text
values. Anyway, this should be enough to create FDF files for text
fields, text areas, checkboxes and radio buttons.

PDF::FDF::Simple uses Parse::RecDescent and understands both, the "Kids"
notation and the "dotted" notation for field names. Saving will always
use the "dotted"- notation.

Regards, Axel

I think it's a valid rejection reason for anything that is not the
reference PHP implementation published and copyrighted by the PHP Group.

Personally, I consider the PHP License non-free even for PHP itself,

Please let me understand: do you mean that hhvm includes code derived
from the reference PHP implementation published and copyrighted by the

Hello Jan and Martin,

I have overhauled the Debian spring package and committed everything to
the team's git repository. The new package closes almost every bug
except the ones which require exceptional efforts by upstream, namely
making spring work on other architectures than amd64 or i386.

I'm sure that I improved the package but I don't intend to become one of
the uploaders at the moment. There are far too many embedded third party
software libraries and I can't see that upstream will try to change that
in the near future. I'm also a little disappointed that there is no kind
of security mailing list and only little effort to work with upstream
developers of embedded libs like assimp to incorporate spring's changes. [1]

However I would really appreciate it if someone reviewed the current
packaging work and helped with fixing the current RC bug.

As far as I can see the springlobby package could also benefit from a
new upstream release and rapid-spring is no longer supported (see the
info at the bottom of the page) [2] I don't think it's worth to support
this package for Jessie.

In any case

Happy Christmas!

That rejection reason is pretty squarely aimed at people writing applications
in the PHP language and makes sense for them. We are an alternative to php-src
mostly coded in C++ and x86 assembly. (and after we prove ourselves I'll
petition to be marked as an alternative for the php package).

As for the direct question. Much of our extension code was directly imported
from php-src so we will absolutely be unable to relicense that portion.
Untangling our contributions from the php-src ones is a very arduous task since
there are many bug fixes to their code (some upstreamed, some not) as well as
API changes and data structure replacements. We are happy with the php license
so releasing the whole package under the same umbrella makes development much
easier.

We are willing to relicense our portions under BSD but the technical splitting
of the files into us vs them is just too much to ask.

Again, we are the first viable runtime alternative to php-src so I would argue
that the rejection paragraph does not apply to us and didn't even consider us.

Do you mean apart from persuading the copyright holder (Facebook, Inc.)
to re-license hhvm under more general DFSG-free terms, such as the
3-clause BSD license?
Your help in getting this issue solved would be highly appreciated, I
think.
Please re-read http://bugs.debian.org/727085#60
for further details on the licensing issue.

I think László (who reads us in Cc) is still interested in packaging
hhvm for inclusion in Debian.
At least the bug is still an ITP bug and still owned by László, hence,
unless he has just changed his mind, he should be still willing to work
on the packaging...

I suggest you to get in touch with László and ask him whether and how
you can help.

Thanks for being a Debian-friendly upstream developer and for offering

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The maintainer of chrony, John Hassler, has uploaded a version of chrony
orphaning chrony and setting the maintainer to the QA group:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/chrony/news/20130419T183230Z.html

This e-mail serves to formalize this situation.

The package description is:
It consists of a pair of programs :
`chronyd'. This is a daemon which runs in background on the system. It
obtains measurements (e.g. via the network) of the system's offset
relative to other systems, and adjusts the system time accordingly. For
isolated systems, the user can periodically enter the correct time by hand
(using `chronyc'). In either case, `chronyd' determines the rate at which
the computer gains or loses time, and compensates for this. Chronyd
implements the NTP protocol and can act as either a client or a server.
`chronyc'. This is a command-line driven control and monitoring program.
An administrator can use this to fine-tune various parameters within the
daemon, add or delete servers etc whilst the daemon is running.

Bug#730983: Festival Voices and Czech voices

2013-12-21 Thread MENGUAL Jean-Philippe

Hi,

In my opinion,

PD> festival-freebsoft-utils would usefully be maintained by tts group.
Moreover, I think that speech-dispatcher is more related to TTS than a11y. Indeed,
this package does not imply any skills in a11y matter, but rather in TTS matter.
Just because it's only a pipe between a screen reader and a speech synthetiser.
So, no skill are needed in screen reader. However, it's fully related to speech
synthetisers (pipe, drivers, etc.). Just as pico.

Regards,

Le 08/12/2013 13:47, Peter Drysdale a écrit :

Dear Paul, Jean-Philippe, Fellow TTS members and a11y members,

Paul's email has raised some important considerations.

Just some further clarification while we gather/await opinions from
other TTS and a11y team members:

1) Apologies for not being clear with regard to speech-dispatcher. I
had not considered this for the TTS group since
I assumed it fell directly within a11y group's expertise. Is this the
opinion of a11y team members?

2) I had not formed an opinion with regard to
festival-freebsoft-utils. It would appear to lie right on the border
between TTS and a11y programs which drive TTS. All of this package is
written in festival's Scheme implementation.

It is a small package and I would not want it to be long orphaned.
For TTS group - uses same Scheme dialect which TTS group maintains for
festival - maintainence burden would be low.
For a11y group - freebsoft-utils is closely tied to speech-dispatcher
- a11y group has more users which would be doing

on going testing of this functionality.
If a11y do not pick it up, I would say that TTS probably would feel a
strong moral obligation to pick up freebsoft-utils.
It has a fairly high popcon (people find it useful) and links closely
with the festival/spech-tools packages we maintain.
In a sense it is really the glue program between our two groups. I
look forward to your opinions.

I look forward to this continuing dialogue,

very best regards,
Peter Drysdale

In Ubuntu, the chromium-chromedriver is built directly in the Chromium
package. It doesn't seem to need any external tarball for that as all
the code is included in third_party/webdriver. Therefore, it seems legit
to turn this RFP into a wishlist bug against Chromium.
