I think the open issues should be fixed now. Could you please have a
 look and upload if appropriate?

I had a quick look. There are still some issues:

control:
- you should put yourself in uploader
- update standards version to 3.9.5

copyright:
- The copyright clause for vendor/pygments-main/*. Specifying The pygment
team as copyright owner is dubious, this is not people and not a company.
vendor/pygments-main/AUTHORS contains more information. You should specify the
3 main people and refer to this file in a Comment line.
- The MIT license you mention should have Expat short-name. See

https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/#license-specification
There are many versions of the MIT license. Please use Expat
instead, when it matches.
- you can add yourself in debian/* clause

May be add a comment in copyright file mentioning that vendors/pygments-main
and vendors/simplejson are not used (disabled by patch 0002-Don-t-set-
PYGMENTS_PATH-and-remove-sys.path-appends)

Please add headers to debian patches. You can use 'cme edit dpkg' to edit
these headers. Ideally, you should explain the rationale of each patch in
their headers.

All the best

Bug#740580: O: fbset -- framebuffer device maintenance program

2014-03-03 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Guillem Jover guil...@debian.org (2014-03-03):
This package has a lethargic upstream, and needs to be synced from time
to time with the latest Linux framebuffer header, accelerators, docs and
 modes, from «linux/include/linux/fb.h» and «linux/Documentation/fb/»
respectively, which I've not done since linux-3.0.0-rc1, as I can't be
bothered any longer. It also produces a udeb, so people interested in
the installer might want to take a look.

I only quickly looked, but I didn't find anything obvious making use of
the binaries the udeb contains, or a reference to the udeb itself; so I
might be OK for it to go away entirely. Cc-ing -boot@ so that someone
can yell if I missed something.

Bug#740601: ITP: blat -- BLAST-Like Alignment Tool

2014-03-03 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tille ti...@debian.org

* Package name: blat
  Version : 35
Upstream Author : Jim Kent jim_k...@pacbell.net
* URL : http://users.soe.ucsc.edu/~kent/src/
* License : FreeForScientificUse
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : BLAST-Like Alignment Tool
BLAT on DNA is designed to quickly find sequences of 95% and greater
similarity of length 25 bases or more. It may miss more divergent or shorter
sequence alignments. It will find perfect sequence matches of 25 bases, and
sometimes find them down to 20 bases. BLAT on proteins finds sequences of 80%
and greater similarity of length 20 amino acids or more. In practice DNA BLAT
works well on primates, and protein blat on land vertebrates.
 .
BLAT is not BLAST. DNA BLAT works by keeping an index of the entire genome in
memory. The index consists of all non-overlapping 11-mers except for those
heavily involved in repeats. The index takes up a bit less than a gigabyte of
RAM. The genome itself is not kept in memory, allowing BLAT to deliver high
performance on a reasonably priced Linux box. The index is used to find areas
of probable homology, which are then loaded into memory for a detailed
alignment. Protein BLAT works in a similar manner, except with 4-mers rather
than 11-mers. The protein index takes a little more than 2 gigabytes.

Remark: The package is maintained by the Debian Med team at

   git://anonscm.debian.org/debian-med/blat.git

Generic sink-based interface. Provides decoding, encoding, resampling,
and gain adjustment. Designed to be the backend of a music player.
Uses libav for decoding and encoding. Add and remove entries on a
playlist for gapless playback. Supports idempotent pause, play, and
seek. Per-playlist-item gain adjustment so you can implement loudness
compensation without audio glitches. Read and write metadata tags.

Description : whitelist-based HTML sanitizer for Ruby

Sanitize is a whitelist-based HTML sanitizer. Given a list of acceptable
elements and attributes, Sanitize will remove all unacceptable HTML from a
string.
..
Using a simple configuration syntax, you can tell Sanitize to allow certain
elements, certain attributes within those elements, and even certain URL
protocols within attributes that contain URLs. Any HTML elements or attributes
that you don't explicitly allow will be removed.

Description : Python traceback fiddling library

This library allows pickling tracebacks so that they can be passed
across process boundaries. The traceback objects that come out are
stripped of some attributes such as variables, but it is at least
possible to raise exceptions with those tracebacks or print them.

(I'd like to make use of this in a rather elaborate test suite setup
where I need to be able to run some tests in their own subprocesses;
while I've come up with a crude workaround, this would be a nicer way to
propagate exceptions back to the parent where they can be re-raised
properly.)

IBM_DB_SA implements the SQLAlchemy specification for supporting the IBM Data

Note: this package is needed by the last version of SQLAlchemy migrate, which

Description : A JIRA REST Client for automated scripts

JIRA::Client::Automated is an adapter between any automated system and
JIRA's
REST API. JIRA::Client::Automated is explicitly designed to easily create and
close issues within a JIRA instance via automated scripts.

For example, if you run nightly batch jobs, you can use
JIRA::Client::Automated to have those jobs automatically create issues in
JIRA for you when the script runs into errors. You can attach error log files
to the issues and then they'll be waiting in someone's open issues list
when
they arrive at work the next day.

If you want to avoid creating the same issue more than once you can
search
JIRA for it first, only creating it if it doesn't exist. If it does already
exist you can add a comment or a new error log to that issue.

Hi,

I don't do much NFS anymore, and should have orphaned this long ago.
Whoever picks up this should also get in touch with rpcbind and nfs-utils
maintainers, as it's highly related to those packages.

Bug#714058: ITP: cc65 -- Cross compiler and toolchain for 6502-based systems

2014-03-03 Thread Spiro Trikaliotis
Hello Michael, John,

* On Tue, Jun 25, 2013 at 06:05:08PM +0200 Michael Stapelberg wrote:

Has anything changed since the following post?
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=255572#20

cc65 has been moved to GitHub, with a new main author:

   https://github.com/oliverschmidt/cc65
   http://oliverschmidt.github.io/cc65/

I have started packaging cc65 for Debian (and other systems) on the
OpenSUSE build system (OBS):

  https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:strik/cc65

(To be more precise: I was publishing cc65 as .DEB for some years now. I
generated it from local resources. After the change of the main author,
the new author preferred something on public sources; that's why we used
OBS. It would be extremely simple to create a real Debian version of
it again.)

I would be willing to maintain the package (neglecting the formal
process of becoming a Debian maintainer, which I read some years ago,
but do not remember completely at the moment).

What else would we need to figure out?

Best regards
Spiro.

We should get into touch. I am still interested in maintaining cc65,
so we could work together. I have recently been stressed out, so I
didn't make any process, so I could definitely need some help ;).

Bug#686447: [Pkg-zfsonlinux-devel] any news/reply regarding ZFS in NEW?

Right, so conversely, zfs-linux shares a lot of code already with
zfsutils and it makes no sense for them to be packaged separately or
 compete over namespace?

I think it makes sense for myself to go through the differences and
propose packaging changes for Robert to review, to simply enable
linux-any targets in the existing zfs packages. This thus avoids the
packaging conflict all-together, but does impose compatability (e.g.
such that end-user binaries have compatible commandline interface,
flags, and operations - clearly different zfs api levels / options
will be supports, but the common base set should work the same across
all supported kernels).

If patches are intrusive, then conditionally applying the patches on
linux-any might work (as many other profilic packages do - binutils,
gcc, etc.)

if the FTP maintainers [...] say that this is not acceptable,
then we'll rename it, without any bitching or
whining or expressing opinions that we can't backup with facts.

Basically, their ruling is law. Your opinion is just that - your opinion and
 bear no weight at this
 moment.

It actually seemed to be an offer for collaboration with you, but I
don't see that working so well now.

No ftp-masters decisions are not laws - rejects usually only happen
after contacting the developer, inquiring unclear technical points and
mitigating the problems. Quite often, if it's possible to fix, things
are reuploaded.

it's simply their archive you ask inclusion into and they are free to
include things or not and tell you why =)))

The maintainer of a package, ultimately has the power to veto what
goes into the packages they are maintaining. If you are not sure what
or who a maintainer is, here is reference to the policy you are so
after https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#s-maintainer
Current maintainers and uploads of zfsutils are listed at
http://packages.qa.debian.org/z/zfsutils.html

Debian welcomes all contributions by everyone, as long as one
constructively interacts with Debian. (If you want a reference, here
you go https://www.debian.org/intro/diversity )

Since you acknowledge the code differences are small, can you refactor
zfsutils required portions as patch series to existing zfsutils
package (and hence the related libraries, utils and udebs) ? That
would be ultimately easier to maintain, and will go quicker through
NEW queue, as it's only the utils and not the kernel module.

And then kernel dkms module can go through as a separate package.

Not sure if it at all makes sense to ship -dkms module out of the
zfsutils package, as I'm expecting linux dkms module to move at a
faster pace than the utils.

Would that work you?

Dimitri.

Bug#727085: Taking over packaging in Debian.

Hello all. My name is Ender, I have been a Debian developer for
 quite some
time and I work for Facebook, so I decided to do proper packaging of hhvm in
Alioth, as having this done properly is a goal for the team in the first
 part of
 the year.
I was wondering if one of us is working for Facebook or not. I
suspected yes, as we are everywhere and I'm right.

Of course we are everywhere! :-)

I've read the entire thread to become familiar with everything
 discussed so
far, and I will be incorporating some of the suggestions discussed here as
 well
as some decisions that we made as a team.
  Can you share those decisions?

Don't act as we have some hidden agenda, please. There are several
things that
I'm putting work on like dropping support for the forked libevent HTTP server,
using alternatives for the php5-cli/cgi binaries to be able to replace them, no
init scripts for now, compiling folly statically (or at the very least not as a
different package), getting rid of third-party stuff, releasing proper tarballs
in hhvm.com, merging the nightly packages with my work, and those are off the
top of my head.

All the development for now is happening on collab-maint/hhvm [1],
 as the
current Github repo structure does not fit really well the layout of
 git-buidpackage.
Quickly peeking into your packaging I do wonder if you read the
 entire bug thread.
For example I've discussed architecture support with Paul Tarjan
 (message 50)[1]:
 -- cut --
 From: Paul Tarjan p...@fb.com
 Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2013 16:51:46 +
Last but not least that wiki forces HHVM to be amd64
only. Any reason to do that? Any known problem to run HHVM on
kfreebsd-*, mips{,el}, sparc or any other archs that Debian supports?

Absolutely. HHVM is a Just-In-Time compiler which emits assembly code into
memory then executes it. We currently only emit 64bit x86. We are looking
at other backends, but they require a lot of effort to implement and
 optimize.
 -- cut --
Still, you put the binary package architecture any, instead of only
amd64. Does Facebook supports for example mips now?

I hadn't pushed some of my changes to git... architecture and
additional fixes
are now in.

In that mail you can also read that I've identified most of the build
dependencies. May I ask why you don't use any of that?

Again the list was incomplete (not pushed) and I was just walking
through the
CMake packaging and getting familiar with it. Our list of dependencies are
different. Apart from the fact that you made yours 5 months ago (which is
actually a lot of time for the HHVM team), there are some differences, like you
depending on the 1.54 version of libboost vs. my packaging depending on the
general -dev packages.

Without wanting this to become a blame game, my list of dependencies is
much
more specific than yours, adding also missing libraries, for example:

chrpath
libexpat1-dev
libfreetype6-dev
libpng12-dev
libvpx-dev
pkg-config
unixodbc-dev

And those are only some of them. I'm not blaming you, because I didn't
take
the time to verify that at that time the dependencies were those, but on the
contrary I preferred to carefully add everything the HHVM sources depended on.

Can it be that you use the embedded sources, those as Paul acknowledged:
 -- cut --
 I've just realized that HHVM
embeds other codes under hphp/third_party/ , even folly which is an
other FB FOSS software and should be packaged separately.
[...]
I've asked Paul about other embedded libraries, but didn't get an answer.

No, I'm not. The code *wants* to use them but I'm as an example
writing a
patch to remove completely the libzip dependency (which is more harmful than
normal because we also install it in the make install phase) not only from the
open source one but from our internal code repository.

The rest of them (if they're released as normal packages) will follow.

But problems arise with other libs as well. For example libafdt is
version 0.1.0 (hardly a version number to call it final and stable),
which was last released in 2009 (yes, almost five years ago!). I've a
package ready, but it doesn't build a shared library, just a static
one and it has only one header file. I may upload it if you really
want, but I don't see a reason for that. I've a package of libmbfl as
well, version 1.3.2 , which is 'just' two years old. The version
included in HHVM is 1.0.2 (according to
hphp/third_party/libmbfl/mbfl.rc) and I don't want to think about how
 old is it.

Let's go piece by piece. As I see it for libafdt, if no one has felt
the need
to package that, we can just embed that in the sources.

The issue with libmbfl is a bit more concerning, and I appreciate that
you
already made the work.

debian/rules: removal of bundled jquery.js is from obsolete -doc package,

There is also the issue of the custom lexer for github markup from
pygments in vendors, I can't see that this is resolved in current packaging.

Since the idea is to use this for GitLab where ruby-github-markup will
use this custom lexer IIRC, this needs to go somewhere. In the current
packaging, the bundled pygments is not used at all in favour for
python-pygments in Debian (debian/patches/0002-...).

My intention was to push this custom lexer upstream.

https://github.com/tmm1/pygments.rb/pull/77

Another way is of course to add this to the Debian pygments package (if
pygments upstream won't allow custom lexers as stated in the pull request).

Will check them. It's midnight here. :(

This is good news. The build system should check for proper versions
installed and not including them.

The rest of them (if they're released as normal packages) will follow.
Several of them are packaged already. See double-conversion, sqlite3 and lz4.
I've packaged libafdt and libmbfl and of course folly. I'm not sure
all of them are correct and I know that folly doesn't stand on its
own.

Let's go piece by piece. As I see it for libafdt, if no one has felt
 the need
to package that, we can just embed that in the sources.
It's not just that. Its upstream is died five years ago and its 0.1.0
version number[1] doesn't suggest that it's stable and ready.

The issue with libmbfl is a bit more concerning, and I appreciate
 that you
already made the work. What I have to do as part of the packaging work i to
make sure that we haven't patched those sources, then I'll update them here
 and
will use the same logic in a backported patch. You have to think that the
 HHVM
has quite a bunch of technical debt around some edges. Quoting Paul Tarjan,
 I
think we just brought something from the outside to third-party and that gate
 kept open forever.

This is fine, because what we are trying to do is not just a Debian
 packaging
but also fix HHVM for the greater good. It's the HHVM team's desire and my
 own
goal to make this monster more palatable.
Sure, this should be done first before packaging. This is what I
wanted from Paul in my private email.
For me it seems Facebook just put the sources on GitHub, but don't
play well that boxes can have the dependent libraries installed, maybe
with newer versions that included in HHVM this time.

Don't forget the Folly state (no ABI and neither source

Dismissed, as folly is going compiled in the blob as it comes from
 the internal
 repos.
Again, I meant it in a different context. Can HHVM team support Folly
on the long run (say, Ubuntu LTS releases) when its not their work and
it doesn't have any 'stable', versioned release (ie, even its team may
not remember why something was solved that way in a moment of time)
and someone may look for a mistic FTBFS problem or needs a security
fix somewhen?

stability), the history of old libevent version usage, makes me wonder

Dismissed as well. Paul stated it before, but I will say it again:
 we won't
support the libevent-based server and it won't be compiled in.
I wrote _history_. Referred to how Facebook follows other upstream
sources. Embedding and not updating them for more than a year is a
problem. I know that the libevent 1.x problem is gone. Just a friendly
reminder, under hphp/third_party/ there's still a patch for libevent
1.4.14 which can be removed.

Because in Facebook we don't have the luxury of having up to date
 distributions
in the servers. The last one available IIRC is 3.7.9, so the HHVM team
 decided
to put an updated one and then no one took the time to update it, I guess.
According to my records[2], sqlite3 has version 3.7.13 in stable and
as a backport in oldstable as well. You may use backports as well I
guess. But I doubt you use oldstable.

 It's
not something that I am particularly proud of, but again, you don't seem to
 see
that we are pushing these packages from internal repositories where they don't
have the same level of scrutiny about updated versions of packages. It will
take some time to get there.
I'm mostly arguing against embed several other upstream packages in
HHVM. Then it's hard to follow which one may have newer security /
important bugfix release, what patches Facebook has on them, etc.
That's maybe impossible in the current situation. I even doubt that
the security team will allow HHVM in as it's today. Embedding several
other sources and make an inside build is a security nightmare.

I just replied to the bug report where all this people
