Bug#649603: RFS: splash -- visualisation tool astrophysics stuff [ITP]
Hi all, I've got a personal mail from Gurkan, stating that he has no time to continue with the package and asking me whether I could do it. While I could prepare the package so that it can be uploaded (insert in debian-astro's git, update to the newest version etc.), I don't want to maintain it myself: I never used splash, and I have no idea on how to deal with its bugs. However, splash has very good reputation, so it is quite worth to be included in Debian. So, my question to the more experienced here: Shall I just start, ask for sponsorship and at the same time issue an RFA? Or is there anyone here who has interest to take over? -- That would be the ideal solution! Best regards Ole Am 13.08.2014 um 23:44 schrieb Andreas Tille: Hi, On Wed, Aug 13, 2014 at 10:33:54AM +0200, Ole Streicher wrote: Maybe you already know that we have now a Debian Astronomy working group [2] with a mailing list [3]. To get the package actually into Debian, could you also upload it to mentors [4] and issue an Request For Sponsorship? This way your package would not get forgotten again. I am not a Debian Developer yet, so I cannot sponsor your package myself. Could please someone here consider sponsoring? I could easily sponsor if the package meets Sponsering of Blends criteria[1] which means the package ins in Debian Astro repository and on the according tasks pages. But these days people most likely don't want to send their password in clear text, and the netrc-like password file doesn't really help with that. Well, FTP/HTTP and secrecy aren't exactly buddies. So, people want to otherwise they would use client-certificates with HTTPS. Or they could do SSH – this method is installed by default (but I have to say: I have never tried it so far). That was at least my naive response back in the days this netrc-like feature was requested/added… So yes, this really only solves the problem I advertised it for (world- readable sources.list). It doesn't stop MITM attacks and is also not a cure for cancer… (not implying that either is solved by HTTPS/SSH). I just don't understand where you got the idea apt could change that. Bug#757256: [Debian] thrift packaging
Hi Laszlo, I see you did an ITA on libthrift-java, thrift-compiler and python-thrift. I previously talked to Evan and he eventually RFAd them; the intention was, in a nutshell, that I take them over, make it mono-source package, and add the C++ library package (that's what I need). It seems I idled, and you were faster ;). So, what are your intentions here? Are you also going to package the C++ library? Will you also convert this to a monolithic source package? I would still be willing to take it all over if you are fine with that; alternatively I would be honored to be able to help with/provide the C++ library packaging. I do have some headaches though with the current extra setup, deliberately splitting upstream. In case you already intent to also package the C++ library, I'd be perfectly fine, though, just idling on. Thx! Stephan signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Re: Bug#753653: RFP: tmsu -- command-line file tagging tooI and tag-based virtual filesystem
Hi, TMSU author here. I'd also like to see TMSU in Debian. It's a great tool and actively developed. However, packaging TMSU will require golang-go-sqlite3 [1] and golang-go-fuse [2] first. See [3] for reference. [1] https://github.com/mattn/go-sqlite3 I have now checked the above URI and I don't think it can easily be packaged for Debian. The source files are missing proper license headers, there is no license file, just a reference in README.md. Additionally, it seems that the repo contains C source code from sqlite that was put together in one file without any license information. This needs to be fixed by upstream. I have raised an issue, https://github.com/mattn/go-sqlite3/issues/138, in the go-sqlite3 tracker to, hopefully, get this fixed. (If that's not possible then I will investigate an alternative library or else fork go-sqlite3 and fix it up myself.)
