Bug#761817: RFP: arangodb -- ArangoDB is a multi-model mostly-memory database with a flexible data model for documents and graphs.

2014-09-16 Thread Kjetil Kjernsmo
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: arangodb
  Version : 2.2.3
* URL : https://www.arangodb.org/
* License : Apache 2.0
  Programming Lang: C, C++, Javascript, Ruby
  Description : ArangoDB is a multi-model mostly-memory database with a
flexible data model for documents and graphs.

ArangoDB is a multi-purpose open-source database with a flexible data
model for documents, graphs and key-values. You can easily build high
performance applications using a convenient SQL-like query language or
JavaScript extensions.

The database server arangod stores all documents and serves them using
a REST interface. There are drivers for all major languages like Ruby,
Python, PHP, JavaScript, and Perl. In the following sections we will
use the JavaScript shell to communicate with the database and
demonstrate some of ArangoDB's features using JavaScript.

The project provides Debian packages already, so packaging it has
already a start.

Bug#761858: RFP: python-vincent -- A Python to Vega Translator

2014-09-16 Thread W. Martin Borgert

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python-vincent
  Version : 0.4.4
  Upstream Author : Rob Story wrobst...@gmail.com
* URL : https://github.com/wrobstory/vincent
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : A Python to Vega Translator

Vincent takes Python data structures and translates them into Vega
visualization grammar. It allows for quick iteration of
visualization designs via getters and setters on grammar elements,
and outputs the final visualization to JSON.

Perhaps most importantly, Vincent understands Pandas DataFrames and
Series in an intuitive way.

Note: This package depends on python-pandas and node-vega-runtime
(the latter not yet packaged).

Have you looked at building a Debian package yet? If so, can you provide a
link to the source repository where this work is happening?

If you're just interested in having the software in Debian but not
interested in building the package yourself, I can convert the bug to an RFP
bug (request for package) and add it to the list of prospective packages for
the Debian Hams team.

Thanks,
Iain.

 I just tried a jessie/amd64 chroot with cowbuilder and it builds fine for

 Does your cowbuilder mount /run/shm? Mine does:
 I: mounting /run/shm filesystem

 This might be the cause for 'sem_open: Function not implemented'.

This was a problem that I had while building with sbuild. I set the
profile to 'desktop' and the build failed with another error:

# Use faketime to make the build more binary reproducible.

This was resolved by removing eatmydata (#747078) as a command-prefix in
schroot.

$ eatmydata faketime '1 day ago' /bin/date -u

An issue was opened for this back in May at
https://github.com/wolfcw/libfaketime/issues/44 .

More on topic: Thanks for your work on bringing ffmpeg* back to Debian. :)
I mostly care about the ffmpeg binary since avconv is far from being a
drop-in replacement.

If the there can be only one stance remains with libav VS ffmpeg, this
user would prefer ffmpeg replacing libav.

 I've never ever had such a great packaging experience in any other language!

well, it wasn’t that great, you just did not realize it, I guess.

For example you produce library packages (libghc-hasktags-*) when you
are only interested in the resulting binary. Then the description is
broken, there is little point in having ... | ghc dependencies, the
copyright is not in DEP5 form (see
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-haskell/tools.git;a=blob;f=template-debian/copyright;h=57900f5ae0e19e7abe9bee26984264b21f1742fb;hb=HEAD

trusting random old blog articles on the internets :-)

 I would be very thankful, if somebody with more debian-haskell experience
 could package

Just uploaded it to NEW.

Maybe you can contribute a manpage (preferably directly to upstream at
https://github.com/MarcWeber/hasktags)?

(And as always I forgot to close the ITP in the changelog.)

 Hi Iain, not very actively but we do have a stable build which uses modern
 libraries and gets 100s of (windows mostly) downloads per week. It would
 be great to get it into Debian.

 Thanks,
 Iain.

Hi Julian,

On Tue, Sep 16, 2014 at 05:45:23PM +0100, Julian Cable wrote:

Ok. I see that there are Debian source packages built in the repository as
well as binary packages but I haven't had a chance yet to look into the
quality of them regarding Debian's policies.

It should be possible to import the source packages into git using
git-import-dsc (part of git-buildpackage) and use that for the basis of
maintaining the package for inclusion in Debian.

I'm not sure though if there are alternative methods of dealing with the
OpenSUSE OBS that are simpler, so have asked in a few places for some
advice and will update the ticket when I have some answers.

Iain.

Bug#761919: RFP: hockeypuck -- Hockeypuck is an OpenPGP Key Server developed in Go.

2014-09-16 Thread Brian Minton
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: RIPEMD160

* Package name: hockeypuck
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Casey Marshall casey.marsh...@gmail.com
* URL : https://hockeypuck.github.io/
* License : GPLv3
  Programming Lang: Go
  Description : Hockeypuck is an OpenPGP Key Server developed in Go.

This keyserver implements the HKP draft protocol specification as well as
several extensions to the protocol supported by SKS.

Public key material conforming to RFC 4880 are supported by the service, as are
RFC 6637 ECC keys.
Go Language

Hockeypuck is developed in 100% pure Go. It compiles and runs on Linux and BSD
variants including Mac OS X. The concurrent capacity of the service should be
limited only by the underlying key storage database. The Go language fosters a
simple, modular, mostly-imperative programming style that I think is natural
yet refreshing for developers coming from a C, Python or Java background (like
myself).
PostgreSQL Key Database

Hockeypuck stores all public key material in a relational PostgreSQL database.
The schema is optimized for performance but also data integrity,
cross-referencing and search capabilities with judicious use of foreign keys
and full-text indexing.
SKS Reconciliation Protocol

Hockeypuck is the first keyserver besides SKS that is capable of synchronizing
public key material with peers using the SKS reconciliation protocol. Recon
protocol support is provided with the Conflux library, developed initially for
this purpose, but potentially useful for other applications.

- - why is this package useful/relevant?
It is useful because it provides a fast public keyserver.
- - do you use it?
not yet, but I'm trying it out.
- - if there are other packages providing similar functionality, how does it
compare?
the package sks provides similar functionality.

 - how do you plan to maintain it?
There is already an ubuntu package.

  Description : BNF grammar parser

 Libmarpa is a C implementation of the core of Marpa parsing algorithm.
 .
  * Marpa parses anything you can write in BNF, including ambiguous and
even infinitely ambiguous grammars.
  * Marpa easily and efficiently handles both left- and right-recursion.
  * If a grammar is in one of the classes in practical use today, Marpa
parses it in O(n) (linear) time.
  * Marpa never goes exponential. Worst case, even for wildly ambiguous
grammars, is O(n3) (cubic) time.
  * Marpa's run-time error detection is revolutionary. Marpa has
complete situational awareness. It knows at all times which rules it
is attempting to apply, how far it has progressed in them, and
exactly which tokens it can accept. And Marpa can communicate its
situational awareness back to the application.
  * Marpa allows the application to efficiently retry rejected input.
This, combined with its situational awareness, allows
Ruby Slippers parsing: When an application has a token rejected,
it can ask the parse engine which tokens would be acceptable. It can
then create a virtual token that allows the parse to continue -- the
application can make the parse engine's wishes come true. The Ruby
Slippers are easy to use and surprisingly wide in their application.
 .
 Marpa is named after the legendary 11th century Tibetan translator,
 Marpa Lotsawa.

This library is currently part of libmarpa-r2-perl, but will be provided
as a separate shared library in future releases.

* Package name: gnuplot5
  Version : 5.0.0~rc1
* URL : http://www.gnuplot.info/
* License : Gnuplot's lisence.
  Description : Command-line driven interactive plotting program, version 5

Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven graphing utility for many
platforms.,
It was originally created to allow scientists and students to visualize
mathematical functions and data interactively, but has grown to support
many non-interactive uses such as web scripting. It is also used as a
plotting engine by third-party applications like Octave. Gnuplot has
been supported and under active development since 1986.

This new major version will be maintained as a separated package to let
people use an old and stable gnuplot4 simultaneously and to provide a
smooth migration.

The package will be maintained under Debian-Science roof.

  Description : Android SDK Documentation from Google

 This package will download the Android SDK Documentation from Google and
 create a Debian package. This package also aims to strip out all calls to
 the networking, including tracking services like Google Analytics and
 Doubleclick. These documentation files still require the Google jsapi,
 which is only available by fetching it each time from
 http://www.google.com/jsapi. This package forces it to use https://, but
 otherwise, these docs have to phone home in order for any of the javascript
 to work.

 since each user directly downloads the files from Google, and must agree to
