Bug#768507: #768507: Co-maintainers for debhelper

2014-11-17 Thread Josselin Mouette
Hi Niels,

Niels Thykier ni...@thykier.net wrote:
Valéry, Josselin and Modestas: Are you all still interested in working
on debhelper - if so, in general or do you have specific area/tool of
interest that you are maintaining?

I’m among the authors for dh_gconf, dh_installgsettings, dh_icons and
dh_girepository (which, now I think about it, is not in debhelper
itself).

I’m not following debhelper-devel since I’m not interested in debhelper
in general, but if that is fine with you, we can just poke each other
whenever there is something needing fixing in the GNOME/freedesktop
tools, which are usually low-maintenance.

The only opened issues I can see are:
- #35787 which was IMHO fixed by the migration to freedesktop menus and
icons
- #592958 which is unimportant but should be trivially fixable (add the
dependency only for schemas, not for defaults)

Cheers,

I'm looking for co-maintainer with Python skills for mysql-utilities

These days I have little time for mysql-utilities, not enough Python
knowledge and little motivation as I'm not using this package.

I'd much appreciate someone's help, ideally under pkg-mysql umbrella.

Thanks.

Bug#448638: RFP: i2p -- I2P is an anonymizing network

If anyone of you want to step in and take care of packaging I2P for
Debian please re-title the bug back to ITP and assign it to you.

If it happens that there is more than one person interested on packaging
I2P, then the interested ones can talk between them to check the
possibility of maintaining the package together.

Now that you've started contributing to Debian, maybe you would be
interested in maintaining I2P directly in there? This would make the
Tails release process and source tree a bit simpler :)

Bug#769910: ITP: fnordmetric -- write SQL queries that return SVG charts rather than tables

2014-11-17 Thread Sebastien Delafond
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Sebastien Delafond s...@debian.org

* Package name: fnordmetric
  Version : 1.0~alpha
  Upstream Author : Paul Asmuth
* URL : http://fnordmetric.io/
* License : GPL3
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : write SQL queries that return SVG charts rather than tables

FnordMetric has two components:
.
FnordMetric ChartSQL allows you to write SQL queries that return charts
instead of tables. The charts are rendered as SVG vector graphics and
can easily be embedded into any website and customized with css in order
to build beautiful dashboards. You can execute ChartSQL queries from the
command line against a number of external sources like CSV files or a
MySQL database
.
Fnordmetric Server is a standalone HTTP server application. It exposes a
web UI and a HTTP API to run ChartSQL queries and collect timeseries
data. You can use fnordmetric-server as a one-stop solution for metric
collection and charting. Since fnordmetric-server aims to be a
StatsD+graphite competitor, it implements a wire compatible StatsD API.
FnordMetric Server can store the collected timeseries data on local disk
or in external storage (HBase)

Bug#768096: [Python-modules-team] python mysqldb on python 3

2014-11-17 Thread Brian May
On 5 November 2014 12:11, Collin Anderson cmawebs...@gmail.com wrote:

There might be a problem because it looks like it conflicts with
 python-mysqldb.
Yes, it's a 100% compatible fork intended to replace python-mysqldb. Same
python package name and everything. We could decide to only include it for
python3, or we could even have this completely replace the original
 python-mysqldb on python2.

I don't much like the idea of having different code base for python2 and
python3 versions.

My current plan (unless anyone objects) is to replace the python-mysqldb
package with the mysqlclient package, keeping the existing python-mysqldb
(which makes sense as the python module name is unchanged).

My initial upload will be to experimental.

I'd suggest not just replacing it. How about call your package python-
mysqlclient (as you had originally intended I believe) and have it conflict
with python-mysqldb (since they both provide the same interface, conflicts is
appropriate). Maintainers can decide which they prefer and if we get a strong
consensus for Stretch, then we can remove python-mysqldb and have python-
mysqlclient provide it.

I think this way would be much friendlier and lower risk.

I could do this.

However I thought that having two packages that do the exactly the same
thing conflict with each other would be frowned upon.

(not to mention that the name goes against the policy of calling packages
python-modulename).

True. This is one of the cases that Optional/Extra was designed to cover.

Is the original development inactive? I think it would be at least somewhat
anti-social to switch to a non-friendly fork (no idea if that's relevant
here). What are the circumstances around the fork. I think that's at least
socially significant.

I am no expert here. Looking at source force, the latest stable release of
(1.2.3) mysqldb was 2010-06-17 (with the corresponding windows msi being
generated 2012-09-05).

http://sourceforge.net/projects/mysql-python/files/mysql-python/1.2.3/

There has been a beta version since (1.2.4b4), having problems getting a
date for it using source forge.

Last svn commit appears to have been made 2012-09-24.

The big issue mysqlclient solves is Python3 support, although I suspect
there are other bugs fixed too.

https://pypi.python.org/pypi/mysqlclient/1.3.4

Looking at mysqlclient at https://github.com/PyMySQL/mysqlclient-python,
there is the text:

This project adds Python 3 support and bug fixes. I hope this fork is
merged back to MySQLdb1 like distribute was merged back to setuptools.

A merge back would be good, but unfortunately I am doubtful it is going to
happen.

That does sound like a friendly fork, so I think taking over the package name
