 It seems to be abandoned by upstream, which means that adopting
 this package in Debian, you will have to become upstream too.

It would be nice if someone could contact all of the Python ones and
ask them to merge their code. Same for all of the Perl ones and all of
the other ones. Even more interesting would be a standard for video
downloader plugins so that video players like Totem and VLC could just
play videos on these sites. De-duplicate all the things!

Bug#777213: RFP: snf-image-creator -- OS image creation tool

2015-02-06 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: snf-image-creator
  Version : 0.8.1
  Upstream Author : Nikos Skalkotos skalkoto grnet gr
* URL : https://github.com/grnet/snf-image-creator/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : OS image creation tool

Generic image creation tool:

It comes in two variants:
 * snf-image-creator: A user-friendly dialog-based program
 * snf-mkimage: A non-interactive command-line program

Unlike Oz, it takes as input, media that represents a hard disk (a block
device, an image file or the host system itself) with an installed OS on
it. It snapshots the hard disk, performs various cleanup tasks on the
snapshot (like virt-sysprep), shrinks the snapshot and finally dumps the
final prepared image on a local file or uploads and registers it with a
Synnefo deployment. It can fully operate on Linux, Windows and FreeBSD
input media. On Windows it can automatically install the needed VirtIO
drivers and perform sysprep. It can also be used to create an image out
of the Linux host system itself (host bundling process).

 you-get is a video downloader for [YouTube](http://www.youtube.com),
 [Youku](http://www.youku.com), [niconico](http://www.nicovideo.jp) and
 a few other sites.

 `you-get` is a command-line program, written completely in Python
 3. Its prospective users are those who prefer CLI over GUI. With
 `you-get`, downloading a video is just one command away:

 $ you-get http://youtu.be/sGwy8DsUJ4M

 I use it and plan to maintain packaging for Debian. As much as I
 know, it is THE console downloading solution.

Hi Dmitry,

Have you heard of the package youtube-dl?

% apt-cache policy youtube-dl
youtube-dl:
  Installed: 2015.01.16-1
  Candidate: 2015.01.16-1

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2014.08.05-1 0
500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing/main amd64 Packages

I know there is concern about introducing packages into Debian where
packages that provide similar (exact?) functionality already exist.

Perhaps highlight the differences between the two packages and why
you-get is better/different.

Thanks for contributing to Debian!

Bug#685575: Build dep

2015-02-06 Thread Geoff
Hi,

I've been playing around with opentracker packaging on Linux only.

I made some improvements to Roman's packaging work.

I believe the Makefile has to be patched to support DESTDIR convention.

The package also need to build depends on the following packages:

 * libowfat-dev
 * zlib1g-dev
 * freebsd-glue: needed to find srandomdev on linux build

What is the current status on opentracker packaging?
I'm willing to help if needed (I'm not a DD though).

Cheers,
thanks for your work,
Geoff

  - Jonas

the homepage list a lenghty list of Chinese websites supported,
so people wanting to see these media would find in relevant
and wouldn't care about implementation language or library.

A database that cross-match all video downloaders and
supported website would be nice.

Sorry that I missed it. I was sure that youtube-dl is youtube-only.

Well, I attempted to compare. They are similar, but digging deeper
difference is against you-get:

|| commits | contributors | language |   |

Well, there is sites, supported by you-get, not supported by youtube-dl,
but I am personally not interested. I will close bug.

 Well, there is sites, supported by you-get, not supported by
 youtube-dl, but I am personally not interested. I will close bug.

i just found about you-get, but i found it can download and convert
from youku, soku, tudou and iqiyi. all sites very popular and fast in
China.
youtube-dl even it's latest version (not yet on debian) can't download
from those sites,

so, i would use your package i think is useful

  Description : Non-interactive video downloader

you-get is a video downloader for [YouTube](http://www.youtube.com),
[Youku](http://www.youku.com), [niconico](http://www.nicovideo.jp) and
a few other sites.

`you-get` is a command-line program, written completely in Python
3. Its prospective users are those who prefer CLI over GUI. With
`you-get`, downloading a video is just one command away:

$ you-get http://youtu.be/sGwy8DsUJ4M

I use it and plan to maintain packaging for Debian. As much as I
know, it is THE console downloading solution.

---BeginMessage---
I was wrong. There is another solutions for this problem, in particular
`youtube-dl`. Sites, supported by `you-get`, but not supported by
`youtube-dl` are not of my interest, so I drop my intention to package
`you-get`. Sorry for noise.

 I filed an ITP for this a while ago, but let it revert to an RFP, and
 haven't refiled for ITP since.

 I actually still have the repo with the work I did so far, you can find
 it here if it helps (although it is woefully obsolete)

 http://code.kvr.at/git/?p=pkg-libshark.git;a=summary

 I don't recall why I never finished this ITP. IIRC, I was having a hard
 time tracking contributions for debian/copyright, and this was followed
 period where my involvement in Debian declined for personal reasons. But
 I don't think there were any showstoppers.

 Regards,
 Christian

That was over 4 years ago, so yes, somewhat obsolete.

Comparing against your packaging there are some important and
encouraging changes:

- upstream version 2.3.2 - 3.0.11
- upstream has a debian dir which is at least a starting point
  (includes a debian/copyright)
- non-free image seem to be gone
- non-free xmlparser (Fuzzy) no longer in trunk
- standard TeX styles no longer included
- compiles out of the box

It looks like upstream is in a far better state now then it was back then.

MfG
Goswin

Well, that's good news. That should simplify a lot.

With my repo at

 http://code.kvr.at/git/?p=pkg-libshark.git;a=summary

being so obsolete (and you having a clone anyway, in case there is
something can be salvaged), I'll go ahead and remove the repo above.
