Bug#786375: about gRPC packaging
On Mon, May 25, 2015 at 12:56:51PM +0200, László Böszörményi (GCS) wrote: Hi Andrew, On Thu, May 21, 2015 at 1:20 PM, Andrew Pollock apoll...@debian.org wrote: I don't mind you joining in. I'm doing the work on Github, as I'm trying to help the gRPC guys maintain it themselves to some degree (I work for Google). OK, good plan. I assume you don't work at the same place where gRPC is being developed. It means the packaging will be refreshed in their tree from time to time, right? https://github.com/grpc/grpc/pull/1696 is what I've done so far. If you can help get protobuf3 into experimental, I can flesh the package out more there. As I see, it was merged. As such, I add my changes over yours. In my next pull request, I can add you as an Uploader. Thanks. How to go on from now? May I get commit access to your tree or just send pull requests? Just done the latter. I'm very new at using Github, so for the time being, maybe just send pull requests to me. Longer term, once we've agreed on how we're doing things, I'd recommend just sending pull requests to the upstream grpc repository. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Hmmm, I can not parse this as a specific question to me - just ask if I can help somehow. Regarding packaging shared libraries I personally recommend using d-shlibs. There are some examples in our repositories for instance bambamc, bamtools or snp-sites (just a random pick from my poor mind with no specific order or preference) Thanks. These are good enough pointers for me to start trying something. I was mostly confused by having to mind the symbols and sonames. It looks like I should just build the .so files and take care of their placement in multiarch folders...at least, as a first step. [...] Moreover, the spacing is the same for the other two generated packages and I don't get this warning for them. Otherwise, the package is lintian clean. See my latest push. :-) Oh... I see. On the other hand when I'm using the latest lintian (from unstable) I get some more things as info, which might be worth fixing Ok, I just discovered the -I flag for lintian and see what you saw. I: kmer-tools source: quilt-patch-missing-description kazlib.patch I: kmer-tools source: quilt-patch-missing-description remove-kazlib.patch Done. You might like to override I: kmer-tools source: debian-watch-file-is-missing with a comment to express the fact that there is no chance to write such a file. Lintian info recommended creating a dummy watch file with comments explaining the situation. I did that and hope it's ok with you (more details in my commit message). I decide from time to time whether I fix things like I: meryl: spelling-error-in-binary usr/bin/existDB endianess endianness If there is a responsive upstream I send a patch. Fixing this involves renaming two of the source files. Is there an way to do that with quilt without essentially deleting it and creating it with a different name? I feel like upstream will laugh at me if I send in a patch to correct such a minor thing. For things like I: meryl: hardening-no-fortify-functions usr/bin/existDB I never found a solution myself and consider this false positives. Feel free to leave these untouched. I was able to resolve this. The dh_make debian/rules template had some extremely useful information in this regard. Please add the DEP3 headers to the patches since this is helpful for other team members. Done (and sorry about that; I totally forgot about the quilt header thing). Bug#786889: ITP: media-types -- List of media types associated to file suffixes
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Charles Plessy ple...@debian.org Package name: media-types Version : 2.1.44 Upstream Author : Mostly Ville Skyttä ville.sky...@iki.fi, for Fedora URL : https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/mailcap.git/tree/mime.types License : Public domain Programming Lang: Just a text file Description : List of media types associated to file suffixes The IANA [Internet Assigned Numbers Authority] maintains a list of media types (see [RFC 6838]) and their detailed descriptions that indicate which file name suffixes, if any, are used to signal that a given file is of the given type. On Unix systems, the file `/etc/mime.types` summarises this information in a plain text tabular format (media types were formerly called MIME types). . The IANA does not provide directly a `mime.types`f ile. To keep it up to date, one has to regularly monitor changes on the IANA website. This is done very well by the maintainer of Fedora's `mailcap` package. This Debian package provides Fedora's `/etc/mime.types` in Debian systems. . [Internet Assigned Numbers Authority]: https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types [RFC 6838]: https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4855 Further comments: Currently, /etc/mime.types is provided by the mime-support package, which I maintain. This package also provides Debian's implementation of the Mailcap system (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1524). However, the /etc/mime.types files is consumed by other systems, like Apache, and not all computers need to have the Mailcap system installed. Moreover, maintaing the /etc/mime.types is time-consuming (see above), so I plan to track Fedora's file. Since it lives in a Git repository it is tempting to base a Debian source package on it, but this Debian package would only distribute a single file. Alternatively, /etc/mime.types could be moved to a different package, for instance base-files, but this would increase the work load of the package maintainer. Your comments are welcome. Please CC this ITP as I am not subscribed to debian-devel. Bug#786902: O: ifupdown -- high level tools to configure network interfaces
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org Package: wnpp Severity: normal Hello, This is that time of the year when I finally need to orphan ifupdown package. It's been quite some time already since I first thought about this, and I have finally understood I have no intent to maintain this package any more. I stopped using it myself about a month ago, and I doubt I will really work on improving it any further. In current state ifupdown is probably good enough for what it is used for, except a few bugs. For advanced uses, it seems, Python-based ifupdown2 may become a good alternative in the future, and some simpler things wicd, NM and systemd-network probably do things just well. So if anyone wants to take this package over and maintain it, go ahead :) If that doesn't happen soon, I will probably still do some QA uploads from time to time, but I can't promise anything really. -- Cheers, Andrew pgpfZD44lr57W.pgp Description: OpenPGP digital signature
