Acorn is a tiny, fast JavaScript parser written in JavaScript.

acorn.js defines the main parser interface. The library also comes with a
error-tolerant parser and an abstract syntax tree walker, defined in other
files (acorn_loose.js util/walk.js).

node-acorn is required for closure-util (#774562), which in turn is

Bug#788222: ITP: vulture -- scanner for unused Python code

2015-06-09 Thread Daniel Stender
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Daniel Stender deb...@danielstender.com

* Package name: vulture
  Version : 0.6
Upstream Author : Jendrik Seipp jendrikse...@web.de
* URL : https://bitbucket.org/jendrikseipp/vulture
* License : GPL-3.0
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : finds unused classes, functions and variables

Vulture finds unused classes, functions and variables in your code. This helps
you cleanup and find errors in your programs. If you run it on both your
library and test suite you can find untested code.
Due to Python's dynamic nature it is impossible to find all dead code for a
static code analyzer like vulture, because it ignores scopes and scans only
token names. Additionally, some dynamic items that are not explicitly called in
the code may be incorrectly reported as dead code.

Vulture could be employed by Prospector [1]. Though optional, this would make a
nice wrap of this packaging approach.

It's a CLI tool and therefore would belong to PAPT. A RFP has been filed for
another vulture in 2012 [2], but this bug doesn't look very active.

Bug#788076: RFP: gtk3-nocsd -- LD_PRELOADable library to disable GTK+ 3 client side decoration

 * License : LGPL-2.1
Description : LD_PRELOADable library to disable GTK+ 3 client side
 decoration

gtk3-nocsd is a small LD_PRELOADable library used to disable the client
side decoration (CSD) of GTK+ 3.

Since GTK+ 3.10, its developers added a so-called header bar or custom
title bar. With this and the client-side decoration, the original title
bar and window border provided by the window manager are disabled by
GTK+. This makes all GTK+ 3 programs look like alike. Even worse, this
may break some window manager or compositors.

With the release of Jessie (and the advent of Gtk3-based software that
uses CSD), I've been playing around with gtk3-nocsd myself (compiling
it manually) and while I generally like the idea to return some sanity
to Gtk3-based apps, there are a couple of issues that I stumbled on to
(and prevent me from actually using it):

 - While this preloadable library does get rid of the window manager
hints that disable server-side decorations, it does not get rid of
the humongous title bars themselves. I've attached a screenshot
featuring gedit run with preloaded gtk3-nocsd under KDE4 to
illustrate the problem. While there are things there that can be
considered just to be simple toolbar buttons, the windows title and
the minimize/maximize/close buttons are still there and now
duplicated. It looks *really* weird, and I think that's the main
issue that should be solved: you also need to remove everything that
can be found in the normal title bars of window managers.

 - Popup menus are cut off (see second attached screenshot) - if I run
gedit without the preloaded lib, this doesn't happen.

 - It crashes some apps when preloaded; most notably virt-manager,
which is in python2, but I've also seen crashes with apps that just
use glib2 and not gtk3. Don't know why that is yet.

 - I don't think edit your ~/.profile, as suggested by upstream, is
a fantastic deployment strategy for this. It kind of goes against
Debian's just install it and it will work mantra.

Don't misunderstand me: I'm not against packaging this for Debian (in
principle I'm quite in favor of it, because I absolutely loathe the
current state of affairs with gtk3, and would probably be willing to
package that myself), but I think there are a couple of issues that
need to be ironed out first, before this becomes really usable.

Christian

Thanks for the experience report! I only had a very short look at it
so far. A friend told about it after he read about it on the FVWM list

Urgs. So this can't be get rid of?

I mostly use Awesome and Ratpoison as window managers where the issue
with borders and title bars are minor. With Awesome, these internal
title bars and the fact that the window requests to be floating by
default are the biggest annoyances.

It looks *really* weird, and I think that's the main

Well, depends. The package could drop an appropriate file into
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/, maybe configured via debconf. That was at least
what I had in mind.

Don't misunderstand me: I'm not against packaging this for Debian (in
principle I'm quite in favor of it, because I absolutely loathe the
current state of affairs with gtk3, and would probably be willing to

Yeah, sounds like it's not yet as functional as I thought. :-(

Well, on IRC I was suggested to use GTK+ 2 based applications from the
MATE Desktop project instead. E.g. atril and eom instead of evince and
eog, but that only helps for formerly official GNOME applications.

Well, my hope is that one could hack that in additionally. (See below.)

Well, depends. The package could drop an appropriate file into
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/, maybe configured via debconf. That was at least
 what I had in mind.

Sure, I had something along the lines of the following in mind:

BASESTARTUP=${STARTUP%% *}
BASESTARTUP=${BASESTARTUP##*/}
if [ $BASESTARTUP = x-session-manager ]; then
BASESTARTUP=$(basename $(readlink /etc/alternatives/x-session-manager))
fi
case $BASESTARTUP in
  gnome-session*)
# do nothing
;;
  *)
export LD_PRELOAD=...
;;
esac

(Detection logic stolen from gnome Xsession.d files, they should know
best how to do that properly. ;-))

But even then I'd make it configurable per user (and not via debconf per
host), think of large computer network setups at e.g. universities.
Some people might actually like the CSDs even on non-GNOME DEs/WMs.

Don't misunderstand me: I'm not against packaging this for Debian (in

Yeah.

Since you've expressed interest in that thing, I got a bit of
motivation in looking at that again, and I found a fix for the crashes
I saw. (I'll have to clean that up a bit and create a pull request for
upstream.) I'm also going to take a look at the window decoration +
popup issues; maybe those can be fixed as well.

Since this is an RFP, so you don't intend to package it yourself: would
you be willing to sponsor an upload if I do package that? The whole CSD
decoration thing has been bugging me for a while now and I doubt the
number of Gtk3 apps is going to decrease soon (rather the opposite), so
the problem is likely going to get worse. And you've given me some
motivation to look into that issue a bit more.

Christian

I request an adopter for the tachyon package.

The package description is:

Tachyon is a portable, high performance parallel ray tracing system
supporting
MPI and multithreaded implementations. Tachyon is built as a C callable
library,
which can be used with the included demo programs or within your own
application.
The distribution also includes a simple scene file parser front-end
which reads
a few different formats.

Tachyon implements all of the basic geometric primitives such as
triangles, planes,
spheres, cylinders, etc. Some of the goals in developing Tachyon were
to make it fast
and for it to parallelize well. These are what set it apart from more
full-featured
programs like POV-Ray, Rayshade, and others. Tachyon supports enough
features to be
an excellent alternative to slower programs for demanding animation and
scientific
visualization tasks. As time goes on, Tachyon will indeed incorporate
more features,
but with a continued emphasis on rendering performance.

  Description : Ruby visualization toolkit
 Ruby port of Protovis.
 .
Protovis composes custom views of data with simple marks such as
bars and dots. Unlike low-level graphics libraries that quickly
become tedious for visualization, Protovis defines marks through
dynamic properties that encode data, allowing inheritance, scales
 and layouts to simplify construction.
 .
This library implements almost completely core API of protovis,
including all static marks, SVG builder class and data classes.

Description : Frame Streams (fstrm) library

Frame Streams is a light weight, binary clean protocol that allows for the
transport of arbitrarily encoded data payload sequences with minimal framing
overhead -- just four bytes per data frame. Frame Streams does not specify an
encoding format for data frames and can be used with any data serialization
format that produces byte sequences, such as Protocol Buffers, XML, JSON,
MessagePack, YAML, etc. Frame Streams can be used as both a streaming
transport over a reliable byte stream socket (TCP sockets, TLS connections,
AF_UNIX sockets, etc.) for data in motion as well as a file format for data
at rest. A Content Type header identifies the type of payload being carried
over an individual Frame Stream and allows cooperating programs to determine
how to interpret a given sequence of data payloads.
 .
This is the fstrm implementation of Frame Streams in C.

Bug#788076: RFP: gtk3-nocsd -- LD_PRELOADable library to disable GTK+ 3 client side decoration

2015-06-09 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi Christian,

Christian Seiler wrote:
But even then I'd make it configurable per user (and not via debconf per
host), think of large computer network setups at e.g. universities.

Yeah, that should be one option at least. Enabling it for all users
unconditionally though does make sense on laptops, etc. IMHO.

Some people might actually like the CSDs even on non-GNOME DEs/WMs.

*nod*

Since you've expressed interest in that thing, I got a bit of
motivation in looking at that again,

Yay!

and I found a fix for the crashes I saw. (I'll have to clean that up
a bit and create a pull request for upstream.)

Feel free to subscribe @xtaran on Github (i.e. me) to that issue/pull
request.

I'm also going to take a look at the window decoration + popup
issues; maybe those can be fixed as well.

Great. I've no big experience with GUI coding, so I'm not the right
person for that.

Since this is an RFP, so you don't intend to package it yourself:

Right.

would you be willing to sponsor an upload if I do package that?

Yes. Would be unfair if I didn't. :-)

The whole CSD decoration thing has been bugging me for a while now
and I doubt the number of Gtk3 apps is going to decrease soon
(rather the opposite), so the problem is likely going to get worse.

Yeah, so far I've only noticed it a few times and where wondering
WTF, but my annoyance level wasn't at the need to do something
threshold yet. ;-)

And you've given me some motivation to look into that issue a bit
 more.

You're welcome. And I know of at least two more people who'd be happy
if such a functionality would be available as Debian package. :-)

Regards, Axel

I request an adopter for the redir package.

The package description is:
It can run under inetd or stand alone (in which case it handles
multiple connections). It is 8 bit clean, not limited to line
mode, is small and light. Supports transparency, FTP redirects, http
 proxying, and bandwidth limiting.
 .
redir is all you need to redirect traffic across firewalls authenticate
based on an IP address etc. No need for the firewall toolkit. The
functionality of inetd/tcpd and redir will allow you to do everything
you need without screwy telnet/ftp etc gateways. (I assume you are running
 IP Masquerading of course.)

redir is old software, appears to be abandoned upstream (i tried to
interest the upstream maintainer in providing some fixes several years
ago, but nothing came of it).

Pretty much anything that redir can do can probably be done at least
as well by socat, so i'm not sure that redir adds much of value to the
archive.

I plan to do a last bit of maintenance to bring the package up-to-date
if anyone wants to adopt it, but may end up requesting its removal
from the archive if i get no takers.

Regards,

--dkg

Bug#777000: Uploaded Limereg V1.4.0

2015-06-09 Thread Roelof Berg

Hi,

I uploaded the latest upstream version of Limereg V 1.4.0 to alioth. I
also added test automation during build time (by automake) and after
installation (by autopkgtest). Location:
git.debian.org/git/debian-science/packages/limereg.git

On http://blends.debian.org/science/tasks/imageanalysis the package is
listed as 'Packaging has started'. I'd be glad if that package could be
updated to V 1.4.0, and possibly be reviewed for being turned into an
official Debian package.

Release notes:
  * Support for arbitrary aspect ratios
  * Support for color images as input image (will be loaded as greyscale)
  * Support for arbitrary image backgrounds
  * Added parameter --invert
  * Reduced the default value for --maxrot
  * Bugfix: Allow limereg parameters --outfile and --nogui to be coexistent

Outlook:
The next upstream version in a few wheeks or months will be V 1.5 with
more stability and the possibility to search for subimages inside a
bigger image (with the same API interface).

Thanks for sponsoring :)

Regards,
Roelof

You sent a 'RFA', but not an 'O'. So the package isn't orphan.

I did a QA package of the new version of mxml. To 'experimental'
to see if the .symbols file is ok.

The package is at mentors. If you want, set it as orphan, check the
package and do the upload if everything is ok. I have a sponsor who
can help me after that.

  Programming Lang: Python
Description : A PyVISA backend implemented in pure Python

PyVISA started as wrapper for the NI-VISA library and therefore you need to
install
National Instruments VISA library in your system. This works most of the time,
for most people. But NI-VISA is a proprietary library that only works on certain
systems. That is when PyVISA-py jumps in.

Starting form version 1.6, PyVISA allows to use different backends. These
backends can be
dynamically loaded. PyVISA-py is one of such backends. It implements most of
the methods
for Message Based communication (Serial/USB/GPIB/Ethernet) using Python and
some well developed,
easy to deploy and cross platform libraries

This package is useful in Debian since it replaces a huge proprietary library
needed in many instrumentation facilities.

I plan to maintain it as part of the Python Modules team.

Bug#788206: ITP: dodgy -- checks Python code for suspicious things

* Package name: dodgy
  Version : 0.1.7
  Upstream Author : landscape.io c...@landscape.io

  Programming Lang: Python
Description : checks Python code for suspicious things

Dodgy is a Python code quality checker which detects problematic things like (so
far) hardcoded passwords or secret keys. It's a an early version but a
prerequisite of Prospector [1].

I want to maintain this within the Python teams, Dodgy is a CLI tool w/o public
libraries so it would be PAPT.

Cheers,
DS

Bug#788208: ITP: python-requirements-detector -- find and list requirements of a Python project

Description : find and list requirements of a Python project

Requirements-detector is simple tool to assemble a list of requirements
of a Python project. It's another prerequisite for Prospector [1].

It ships a CLI tool wrapper (detect-requirements), but basically features public
modules. I want to put this under the DPMT umbrella. Both, Python2 and 3 are
supported, thus the binaries would be python-requirements-detector and
python3-requirements-detector.

Thanks,

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Johan Van de Wauw johan.vandew...@gmail.com

* Package name: fiona
  Version : 1.4.4
Upstream Author : Sean Gillies and others

* URL : https://github.com/Toblerity/Fiona
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : python api for reading/writing vector geospatial data

Fiona is a python wrapper around the OGR vector data abstraction library.
Fiona is designed to be simple and dependable. It focuses on reading
and writing data in standard Python IO style and relies upon familiar
Python types and protocols such as files, dictionaries, mappings, and
iterators instead of classes specific to OGR. Fiona can read and write
real-world data using multi-layered GIS formats and zipped virtual
file systems and integrates readily with other Python GIS packages
such as pyproj, Rtree, and Shapely.

This program was already packaged for the OSGeo live dvd (ubuntu based) by
Angelos Tzotsos. It will need fixes to be compliant with the debian file system
hierarchy.
Iintent to maintain this package in the Debian-GIS team.

Bug#788212: ITP: python-setoptconf -- retrieve program settings from various sources

2015-06-09 Thread Daniel Stender
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Daniel Stender deb...@danielstender.com

* Package name: python-setoptconf
  Version : 0.2.0
Upstream Author : Jason Simeon j...@classless.net
* URL : https://github.com/jayclassless/setoptconf
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : retrieve program settings from various sources

Python library to retrieve program settings from several different
sources, command line, env variables, JSON/YAML-Files etc. in a consistant
method.

It's a prerequisite for Prospector [1], and appears to be useful to have
it available.

Python 2.6 up to 3.3 is supported, thus the binaries would be python-setoptconf
and python3-setoptconf. I want to maintain this within the DPMT.
