This means the conversion is performed without the need of copying all data somewhere, recreating the whole disk (i.e. create a LUKS device, create a new filesystem on the mapped LUKS device, copy all data back). Instead, the process is reduced to: 1. Unmounting the filesystem 2. Resizing the filesystem to shrink about 10 megabytes (2048 kB is the current LUKS header size -- but do not trust this value, it has changed in the past!) 3. Performing luksipc 4. Adding custom keys to the LUKS keyring I intend to also provide an initramfs hook to make the conversion of a root filesystem for simple cases only (notably cloud payload). -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAEBCAAGBQJXD/hYAAoJEJWkL+g1NSX5efUP/jFnaliNfpQrdLRDtRbdnigb Npks/CXDdE6Zizme8WMnLLgnmVtc0BCrgZqtaNBSFVRh/VKLler8tftOF7aPRrHf d+T5N1hL+0MrFfzBBs68rfUoPirpaalAP+/uS96Oh0o9v2pj22rlWUrCDDj1mbx9 rzUZDcXyUUAkQZYdU0NABMmOuRGJy54yrpfYbORL3m7p8b9XRI4bJgzJcaWhUon1 zyz9toI3l5OgUvSIg0pPmZiP8vJWitpIDQCHbLTTLrhr5man9aHeZC1DzlEk1u8Y w51UI3OWI/J6UmheVnK8XHgHiVY/EfiZI2epFMp8o3ESQ4k2Fxhn/nMf+Wk2vGE9 YQTxeyzVNdcOMwCnt05PZfkytxIGJqsMshGt+w8+6DCEMbXFht7vNWuoldvNfGtC cGoVzErJA/GvinISVJRgVsVwYy+9yi+x11dnNxgGnuKIH7piVELCbYdBalhXOxvE zqx8Dxuf2YjHrfnWIpEZhiw3HtTBQu0Veo9XF2Go6qFFBusAN1tfUfXkCZMPCInC 9TGxcxQK/okK6kRExI7fgrofHmI2gcM11cHNEP1mBAKzUVgcJ81ecffY9wiyPOUR dCdFhuZabojMEzzT+Ytz++QJyoG1lPydd+jqovAvHdvxzjzqy9+3atc8/Jo1G4Ab CcraSGvL4wtU/UoFViKB =QkX1 -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: luksipc Source-Version: 0.04-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of luksipc, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Bug#813096: ITP: logdata-anomaly-miner -- lightweight tool for log checking, log analysis
Hi, I tried to address the issues from the first review for V0.0.0 at http://mentors.debian.net/package/logdata-anomaly-miner, the changes are now in the V0.0.2~pre0 package uploaded. But still there are some points not completely clear to me: Issues from https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ * I tried to follow this one, but seem to have overlooked some points. Could someone please give me a pointer? Issues from https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/python-policy/ * Python3: As this software especially targets production use, currently Python 2.6 is attempted to allow use over a broad range of OS. If community is sufficiently large to support a parallel Python2/3 development, Python 3 support is definitely a goal. * Python2 reference from package: Changed from #!/usr/bin/python -BEsSt to #!/usr/bin/python2 -BEsSt Is this sufficient to address the issues from the review? * Python package dependency: Not sure how to handle that in suitable way: there is no abstract "python2" package, so add a control file for to source tree for each distro to build for having the correct "python2.X" dependency in it? Or would that be better: "Depends: python2.6 | python2.7, python-tz, ${misc:Depends}" As second solution seems simpler, I prefer that. * Arch-dependency: Currently the code calls directly into libc as Python is missing quite all syscalls for secure filesystem interaction. Apart from that, no use of arch-dependent .pyc files is made: the tool is long-running, so the overhead acceptable and all the .pyc-related attack surface can be skipped for the uid=0 part of the program. Considering that, is there a change of package structure needed and if yes, which? Issues from https://packaging.python.org/en/latest/distributing/: * Does this really apply? Currently the components are packaged as application, use as a module was not attempted/tested yet. Perhaps split the application from the module later on? Current layout should be compliant with https://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/python-policy/ch-programs.html, depending how the libc link for different CPU-archs is treated as mentioned above. @Native package: * Currently this mode chosen, as there is only a single source code repository for open-source upstream development also holding the Debian packaging stuff. What would be right way to split that? Remove Debian-part from upstream and instead add it to debian collab platform? Or keep both mixed but split build process into "BuildTgz" and "BuildDebPackage"? I have added a watch file because lintian complained about that, now it is complaining about the existence of the watch file. (The pubkey issue I'll fix as soon as it is clear, if a watch file is really needed). @Versioning: * I was just waiting for pointers for good versioning policy during and after porting from java. As the package was already needed to be available on Ubuntu, I started with simple versioning scheme with major.minor.sub. Source code repository is here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~roman-fiedler/logdata-anomaly-miner/roman-fiedl er/files More about the package releases, versioning is here: https://launchpad.net/logdata-anomaly-miner Thanks for any comments, Roman smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature
Bug#745025: Looking for sponsor
Hi Filip, On Fri, Jan 29, 2016 at 04:13:48PM +0100, Filip Pytloun wrote: > I have prepare khal package: > http://mentors.debian.net/package/khal > > Is there anyone interested in sponsoring it? I am interested in this package and would like to see it included in Debian. I spent a brief look into it already and found a number of issues: * debian/copyright: The license grant for the MIT license suspiciously looks like a GPL grant and references the non-existent file /usr/share/common-licenses/MIT. * khal.conf.sample should be installed using dh_installexamples instead of dh_installdocs. * Your patches say what they are doing, but the patch headers lack reasoning on why they are necessary (in particular the second patch). * It seems that you are packaging khal as a Python2 application, but upstream only declares it working with Python3. Is there any reason not to use Python3? * Instead of installing the manual page twice, please use a symbolic link. Try using dh_link. At least the copyright issue is a blocker. If you update the package, please Cc me, so I can have another look. Helmut

Bug#821397: RFP: sway -- i3-compatible window manager for Wayland
Hi Drew, On Mon, Apr 18, 2016 at 11:03:44AM -0400, Drew DeVault wrote: > Not sure how the Debian process works, so forgive me if I'm > misunderstanding anything. Not neccessarily: At first, sway will be uploaded to "unstable" and unstable is actually quite very uptodate. After some days and if it's free from bugs of severity "serious" and higher, it will automatically migrate to "testing". So unstable and testing are actually usually quite uptodate and people run unstable and testing and they are used to create a number of popular derived distros, *buntu is one of them. So it's useful to have sway there and updated regularily. And then, there will be a freeze of testing at the end of this year and then sometime next year testing will be declared "stable". stable is free of major changes (well, except for firefox and the kernel and some…) and in general only receives security fixes. One easy way of preventing sway from being released as stable is to file a RC bug to prevent it from entering "testing". > On 2016-04-18 3:16 PM, Holger Levsen wrote: > > * License : BSD > Sway uses the MIT license. ah, thanks! -- cheers, Holger signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#821328: ITP: debian-paketmanagement-buch -- German-written book about package management with Debian

That's "Denglisch" or "Germish", i.e. a mixture of German and English and surely worse. :-) The plan is the following: * The source package will probably named "internationally": dpmb (for either "Debian-Paket-Management-Buch" or "Debian Package Management Book" since the website is also on www.dpmb.org. > > Description : German-written book about package management with Debian > > maybe better "Book about package management with Debian in German"? Not bad, but I'd use "... written in German" > Or "German book about…" or "German language book"? I'd consider it common sense to have the primary package description in English, and it should explicitly state that the book is in a non-English language, like e.g. https://packages.debian.org/sid/aptitude-doc-fi > and if it's going to be in > English it needs a couple of tweaks to the articles: > > # This package contains the book "Debian Paketmanagement" by Axel Beckert > # and Frank Hofmann as a single HTML page, as a > # PDF document and as an e-book in the epub format. I don't know; as long as it mentions the German book title I'd think that would be enough. In fact you might argue that a long description like this should be *entirely* in German, so that people who can't read it immediately recognise this package as useless to them. But that's not what policy currently says, and if it's going to be in English it needs a couple of tweaks to the articles: # This package contains the book "Debian Paketmanagement" by Axel Beckert # and Frank Hofmann as a single HTML page, as a # PDF document and as an e-book in the epub format. -- JBR with qualifications in linguistics, experience as a Debian sysadmin, and probably no clue about this particular package
