Bug#822096: ITP: scapy3k -- Python 3 packet generator/sniffer and network scanner/discovery

2016-04-21 Thread Iain R. Learmonth
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "Iain R. Learmonth"

* Package name: scapy3k
  Version : 0.18
  Upstream Author : Eriks Dobelis
* URL : https://github.com/phaethon/scapy
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Python 3 packet generator/sniffer and network
scanner/discovery

Scapy is a powerful interactive packet manipulation tool, packet generator,
network scanner, network discovery, packet sniffer, etc. It can for the
moment replace hping, 85% of nmap, arpspoof, arp-sk, arping, tcpdump,
tethereal, p0f,

In scapy you define a set of packets, then it sends them, receives answers,
matches requests with answers and returns a list of packet couples (request,
answer) and a list of unmatched packets. This has the big advantage over
tools like nmap or hping that an answer is not reduced to
(open/closed/filtered), but is the whole packet.

Uploaded :)

Sorry it took so long, I got distracted by other matters :)

I noticed another thing, but didn't want to drag this on even more: why
don't we generate the manpage using help2man? I had a shot at it, and
the generated manpage looks cool.

  Description : GObject-based library to access oVirt REST API

libgovirt is a GObject-based library to access oVirt REST API. It uses
GObject and librest to integrate well with GNOME applications.

>From the README:

GoVirt is a GObject wrapper for the oVirt REST API [1]. It will
only provide very basic functionality as the goal is to
autogenerate a full wrapper as it is already done for the python
bindings.

NB: at this time, govirt is *NOT* considered API/ABI stable. Future
releases may still include API/ABI incompatible changes.

 This package installs the Telepathy plugin for Matrix

 real-time communication over IP.

I use Matrix infrastructure daily and therefore this package, which works
perfectly under Pidgin. I feel it is the right time to package it, since
Matrix works wonderfully and it would boost its adoption.

I would be happy to team-maintain it under Debian's Telepathy Team.

Looking at Telepathy's packages, seems like the chosen package name is
apt. Please comment if it isn't.

I stumbled upon this software in the search for a simple image viewer that
works well on single-touch displays without a keyboard or a mouse (multiple
mouse buttons), and it works better in this scenario than any viewer currently
available in Debian, because they all rely on keyboard navigation, multiple
mouse buttons or menus (which are hard to navigate if your cursor is a 100px
wide finger) for basic functions like changing images or switching between
fullscreen mode and browsing your image collection.
I tried to reproduce similar functionality by combining different conventional
image viewers with different approaches of gesture recognition tools, but got
no satisfactory results.

It builds straightforward on Jessie after meeting some basic dependencies
(which I can't remember right now, but are all included in Debian).
One thing that might be a problem though is, that upstream seems to have pretty
much abandoned the project. The last activity is from early 2014.
Some time ago this software was apparently present on different software
development platforms, but nowadays qt-apps.org seems to be the only one that
hosts the latest version. It even has vanished from gnome-look.org altogether.
Part of my motivation for filing this report is my hope to save this quite
unique software from oblivion, in case it disappears from qt-apps.org too.
Another reason of course is, that I hope some Debian maintainer sees the
potential in it that I do, and eases the end-user access by providing a Debian
package.

Bug#822181: ITP: python3-tldp -- automatic publishing tool for DocBook, Linuxdoc and Asciidoc

2016-04-21 Thread Martin A. Brown

Subject: ITP: python3-tldp -- automatic publishing tool for DocBook, Linuxdoc
and Asciidoc
Package: wnpp
Owner: Martin A. Brown
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python3-tldp
  Version : 0.7.5
  Upstream Author : Martin A. Brown
* URL : https://github.com/tLDP/python-tldp
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : automatic publishing tool for DocBook, Linuxdoc and Asciidoc

This package was written for the Linux Documentation Project (TLDP) to help
with management and publication automation of source documents. The primary
interface provided is a command-line tool called ldptool. The canonical
location of this software is:

The ldptool executable can:

  crawl through any number of source collection directories
  crawl through a single output collection
  match the sources to the outputs (based on document stem name)
  describe supported source formats (--formats)
  describe the meaning of document status (--statustypes)
  describe the collection by type and status (--summary)
  list out individual document type and status (--list)
  build the expected (non-configurable) set of outputs (--build)
  build and publish the outputs (--publish)
  produce runnable shell script to STDOUT (--script)

The tools in this package process source documents in the TLDP document
repository and generate the following set of outputs from each source
document.

  .pdf, PDF
  .txt, text
  -single.html, a one-page HTML document
  .html, a multipage HTML document
  (We may add other output formats; an epub format is under consideration.)

Supported input formats are:

  Asciidoc
  Linuxdoc
  Docbook SGML 3.x (though deprecated, please no new submissions)
  Docbook SGML 4.x
  Docbook XML 4.x
  Docbook XML 5.x (basic support, as of 2016-03-10)

Comments:

  * The package is in use by TLDP. It could be used by anybody for generating
outputs from the source formats listed above.

  * This package relies on ldp-docbook-stylesheets (ldp-docbook-xsl and
ldp-docbook-dsssl), but there's a problem with the ldp-docbook-xsl
stylesheets, which were released as experimental by David Horton of TLDP
in 2004.

  * Thus, this ITP implies a repair of the ldp-docbook-xsl stylesheets. The
main (current) problems:

  * fop-1.1, available under Debian jessie cannot use the ldp-docbook-xsl
stylesheets, because of significant development in the FOP toolchain
since 2004; the XSL stylesheets must be updated. There are two simple
XSL parameters that I can set to correct this.
  * DocBook 5.x (the fully-namespaced XML version of DocBook) did not
exist when ldp-docbook-xsl stylesheets were first born. They need to
be added to the package.

  * There is one suboptimality--that the LDP stylesheets do not work correctly
with catalogs. I would like to correct that, as well (if I can).

That description might go into the Debian control file.

If so, please add what WAMP means in the context of crossbar.

If WAMP means Windows Apache MySQL P{ython,erl,HP}, just tell.

Bug#822221: ITP: flipcoin -- flip an adjustable coin for random exit status

2016-04-21 Thread Rudi Cilibrasi

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Rudi Cilibrasi

* Package name: flipcoin
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Rudi Cilibrasi
* URL : https://github.com/rudi-cilibrasi/flipcoin
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : flip an adjustable coin for random exit status

This command-line utility can be used to simulate a coin flip to get
a random exit status. The probability of success is adjustable using
an optional command line parameter.

The package includes a single binary executable and man page and is
easily buildable using autoconf and automake.

Although I was a Debian Developer ten years ago, I have not had time to
do much since having kids. I am hoping somebody else can take this
package and sign and upload it. I do not expect to make many revisions
because the source code and functionality are quite simple so the
maintenance burden should be almost zero in the future. I would
appreciate an adoption, co-maintainer, or sponsor as appropriate.

For your convenience, an initial lintian-clean Debian source package is
publicly available at:

https://github.com/rudi-cilibrasi/pkg-flipcoin

This package is a useful core utility for shell scripts that need to
do things in a way that is decorrelated in time and infrequent. Usage is
simple at the shell prompt:

if flipcoin ; then echo heads ; else echo tails ; fi
