Bug#754504: ITP: libpedantic-clojure -- Checkout dependency graphs for common unexpected cases

2017-03-27 Thread Elana Hashman

I have built a working package for version 0.2.0:

https://github.com/ehashman/pedantic
https://csclub.uwaterloo.ca/~ehashman/debian/libpedantic-clojure/

You can test it by installing the package and attempting an import in
the REPL:

$ clojure -cp /usr/share/java/pedantic.jar
Clojure 1.8.0
user=> (use 'pedantic.core)
nil
user=> (doc set-ranges!)
-
pedantic.core/set-ranges!
([ranges paths])
  Set ranges to contain all paths that asks for a version range

You may note the dependency on libpomegranate-clojure version 0.2.0,
which I requested an upgrade for in #852246.

After chatting with Phil, I learned that when you build some project A
with leiningen, and project A depends on project B, and both projects
depend on different versions of project C (say C_A and C_B), then C_A,
the version required by A, will be used in the build.

Hence, there should be no problem with upgrading libpomegranate-clojure
to 0.3.1, as it's currently working and tested in the lein builds.

Does the browser shipped with Debian do this by default? Do you need to

 This Go library provides a mechanism that makes it easy to build socket
 based servers that can be shut down without terminating active connections.
 .
 This library has been extended by the golang-github-facebookgo-grace-dev
 library package to also include graceful restarts.

This Go library is being packaged as a build dependency of gitea (a gogs fork).
There are a lot of build dependencies; I'm sorry. :(

Bug#858858: ITP: heaptrack -- heap memory profiler for Linux

2017-03-27 Thread Anton Gladky
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Anton Gladky

* Package name: heaptrack
  Version : 1.0.0
  Upstream Author : Milian Wolff
* URL : https://github.com/KDE/heaptrack
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : heap memory profiler for Linux

Heaptrack traces all memory allocations and annotates these events with stack
traces. Dedicated analysis tools then allow you to interpret the heap memory
profile to:

  - find hotspots that need to be optimized to reduce the memory footprint of
your application
  - find memory leaks, i.e. locations that allocate memory which is never
deallocated
  - find allocation hotspots, i.e. code locations that trigger a lot of memory
allocation calls
  - find temporary allocations, which are allocations that are directly
followed by their deallocation

  Implemention updates incremently internal buffer, so you can hash things
 larger than allocated memory. This module reuses
 the typedarrays, thus a constant amount of memory during hash compuation
 (except when using base64 or utf8 encoding).

No problem, thanks for working on it!

Cool.  I'm sure we'll get there. :)

That looks good. I hope they will respond. It is bad for users if Debian's
and upstream's SONAMEs are incompatible; if they install something from us and
from online, it will break things.

The important part in terms of compatibility is the SONAME. So the version of
the package doesn't really matter, but the files and symlinks in /usr/lib
should be properly named, and if possible, the SONAME should be identical to
what upstream uses.

Well, the other option is to say that users can use it directly. This is a
reasonable thing to say; I'm actually planning to set up some automated slicing
system which uses only the engine, not the gui. So in that case, it should be
in the executable path, and it should also have a manpage. For programs like
this, most of that manpage can be the contents of the --help output.

As for the capitals in the filename: I don't think there's a rule against it.
Most programs don't have capitals in them, so you could ask upstream to
consider changing it (but you can also not bother them), but it's not a big
deal, and having the same name as upstream is more important than it being
lowercase.

Thanks,
Bas

This is not part of any current plan but I have no objection if someone
wants to do the required work.

I'm not a penetration tester myself. But a good starting point is to
not use "http" at all on connections that you do not trust and also using
tools to ensure that you get the same https certificate that you use to
get over a secure connection.

The pkg-security team is about packaging tools, not about this, sorry.

Thanks for the pointer. Just out of curiosity, do you intend on using
the blends framework for the pkg-security team?

Reading the description of wifiphisher, it looks awfully easy to steal
important credentials from anyone who is connected to any wifi,
including most "secured" connections, not to mention airport hotspots.
If you have pointers about those best security practices, I'll gladly
take them.

Quickly Googling "pkg-security" and "Debian security" did not reveal a
prominent central place for this sort of information. Although not
Debian-specific, a starting point at debian.org for raising awareness
for our users would be nice. If the pkg-security team could take it on
its shoulders...

Kind regards, Thibaut.

I'm sorry for the lack of action on my part, progress was stalled since some
of the criticised points are a bit difficult to fix, and I've been too busy to
invest much time into the them.

I did cut down on them a bit, but the packages are still not done yet.

Please excuse me, then. I will take more care about these things from now on.

I reported the issue upstream, but haven't received a conclusive repsonse:
https://github.com/Ultimaker/libArcus/issues/52

One of my suggested options would require changing upstream versioning
altogether, the other would assimilate the Debian package version to what they
are already using. And awhienstra said they would be changing Arcus versioning
anyway.

So I'm not sure what to do.

Ok, I will test that.

I'm a bit reluctant to do this, as it will introduce additional maintenance
overhead. But if this is the 'proper' way to go, I'll look into it.

 Urlgrey is a library for url manipulation. It's a chainable/fluent interface
 that makes a number of methods available for querying different aspects
 of a url, and even modifying it to create new urls.
 .
 Most methods are named after different parts of the url
 and allow you to read that part from the current url if you don't pass
 any parameters, or they allow you to generate a new url
 with a change to that part in the current url if you do pass a parameter.
