Bug#908175: ITP: xxhash -- Extremely fast hash algorithm

2018-09-06 Thread Norbert Preining
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Norbert Preining

* Package name: xxhash
  Version : 0.6.5
  Upstream Author : Yann Collet
* URL : http://www.xxhash.com/
* License : GPL (utility), BSD (library)
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Extremely fast hash algorithm

xxHash is an Extremely fast Hash algorithm, running at RAM speed limits.
It successfully completes the SMHasher test suite which evaluates collision,
dispersion and randomness qualities of hash functions. Code is highly portable,
and hashes are identical on all platforms (little / big endian).

Necessary for newer versions of dvisvgm.
Only Go versions (3!) and R is available:
golang-github-cespare-xxhash-dev - implementation of the 64-bit xxHash
algorithm (XXH64)
golang-github-oneofone-xxhash-dev - native implementation of the
excellent XXHash hashing algorithm
golang-github-pierrec-xxhash-dev - pure Go implementation of xxHash (32
and 64 bits versions)
r-cran-digest - GNU R package for 'hash digest' of R data structures

Description : Python bindings and command plugin for the GNU

This package implements Python bindings for the Gnucap library. It
provides a Gnucap command plugin that runs Python scripts and loads
extensions written in the Python language.
.
Gnucap is a general purpose circuit simulator. It performs nonlinear
dc and transient analyses, Fourier analysis, and ac analysis
linearized at an operating point. It is fully interactive and
command driven. It can also be run in batch mode or as a server.

> [..] also include as much relevant information as possible.
> - why is this package useful/relevant?
>is it a dependency for another package? do you use it?

This package provides glue between a circuit simulator (Gnucap) and a
general purpose command interpreter (Python). I use it for teaching,
plotting and optimisation.

> - if there are other packages, how does it compare?

There are other cicuit simulators, but they are all limited in their own
ways, essentially ngspice. None of them provides python bindings.

> - How do you plan to maintain it? [..] do you need a sponsor?

Will be team-maintained within the electronics team. Ruben Undheim (DD)
has offered sponsorship.

> Reasons why a new package might get rejected nevertheless
> Especially if the archive already contains analogous packages,
> following reasons might be presented
>The software is very immature (version 0.1-alpha or something like that).

This is the first release with a low version number, not 100% complete
but usable. The implementation aligns to Gnucap architecture, which is
has evolved within the last 30 years, aiming at high quality and
stability. Further development of this package will mostly add things,
not change much of it.

> It's a simple script or very small program, and should be merged
> (either upstream or downstream) with another package.

Gnucap will always be modular. There are no plans to merge any of the
parts, especially not those with third party dependencies (such as
Python).

thanks

Description : Python implementation of the Double Ratchet algorithm

This python library offers an implementation of the Double Ratchet
algorithm as specified here.

The goal is to provide a configurable and independent implementation of
the algorithm, while keeping the structure close to the specification
and providing recommended settings.

This library was developed as part of python-omemo, a pretty cool
end-to-end encryption protocol.

This is a new optional dependency of salutatoi, which is already in
Debian.

simple graphical tool to crop the pages of PDF files. It is written

A unique feature of krop is its ability to automatically split
pages into subpages to fit the limited screen size of devices such as

 convenient scrolling.

Description : Circle icon theme from the Numix project

Numix Circle is an extensive icon theme for Linux desktops, with over 4000
application icons. It is developed by the Numix project and serves as a
companion to the base Numix icon theme (numix-icon-theme).

Packaging rationale: Numix Circle is an actively maintained, modern icon theme
which covers a wide range of application icons. I have been using it for many
months with no problems, and it helps polish the look of a desktop with a
consistent icon style. This theme complements numix-icon-theme, which only
contains a base set of system (e.g. panel, settings) icons.

Maintenance: I plan to maintain this within the Debian MATE team, as discussed
on #debian-mate (IRC).

Description : adapter trimmer for Oxford Nanopore reads

Porechop is a tool for finding and removing adapters from Oxford
Nanopore reads. Adapters on the ends of reads are trimmed off, and
when a read has an adapter in its middle, it is treated as chimeric
and chopped into separate reads. Porechop performs thorough alignments
to effectively find adapters, even at low sequence identity.

Porechop also supports demultiplexing of Nanopore reads that were
barcoded with the Native Barcoding Kit, PCR Barcoding Kit or Rapid
Barcoding Kit.

More information and download links are on the Porechope repo:
https://github.com/rrwick/Porechop

The package is relevant to the field of genome assembly and will be
maintained by the Debian Med team.

Description : small and non-interactive scripting language

execline is a (non-interactive) scripting language, like sh; but its
syntax is quite different from a traditional shell syntax. The execlineb
program is meant to be used as an interpreter for a text file; the other
commands are essentially useful inside an execlineb script.
 .
execline is as powerful as a shell: it features conditional loops,
getopt-style option handling, filename globbing, and more. Meanwhile, its
syntax is far more logic and predictable than the shell's syntax, and has
 no security issues.

This is used for packaging s6.

The fzf program provides a fast curses-based finder which reads a list
from STDIN and writes the selected item to STDOUT. It integrates nicely
with tmux and can also be used as a vim plugin.

* URL : https://github.com/junegunn/fzf

  Description : command-line fuzzy finder

I use this as my shell's reverse-i-search. It brings up an ncurses
interface in which to do fuzzy searching across my shell history.

For example, suppose I know the following is in my history, but I cannot
remember it:
echo | openssl s_client -msg -connect nm.debian.org:443 -servername
nm.debian.org 2>&1 | grep CertificateRequest

With fzf, I press ^r, and am presented with an ncurses interface where I
can then type something like "openssl nm CertReq" to quickly filter my
entire history to just a few relevant entries, all while receiving
visual feedback of the filtering process.

It comes with plugins for bash, zsh, fish, vim.

Since fzf is written in Go, I will apply for collaborative maintenance
with the Go Team, and seek a mentor within that team to get this to
Debian quality and uploaded.

I have started packaging at https://github.com/tomfitzhenry/pkg-fzf and
will move to the Go Team's Alioth repository if appropriate.

Regards,
Tom Fitzhenry

z/VM cloud connector is a development sdk for manage z/VM. It provides a set
of APIs to operate z/VM including guest, image, network, volume etc.
 .
Just like os-win for nova hyperv driver and oslo.vmware for nova vmware
driver, z/VM cloud connector (zVMCloudConnector) is for nova z/vm driver and
other z/VM related openstack driver such as neutron, ceilometer.

Note: This is a new dependency of OpenStack Compute (aka: Nova), which I'm
about to release (OpenStack Rocky is out next week).

Description : Reactive streams implementation for Netty

This library provides a reactive streams implementation for Netty.
Essentially it comes in the form of two channel handlers, one that
publishes inbound messages received on a channel to a Publisher,
and another that writes messages received by a Subscriber outbound.

Features include:
* Full backpressure support, as long as the AUTO_READ channel option is
disabled.
* Publishers/subscribers can be dynamically added and removed from the pipeline.
* Multiple publishers/subscribers can be inserted into the pipeline.
* Customisable cancel/complete/failure handling.

This library is a new dependency of async-http-client.
It'll be maintained by the Java Team.

I'm renaming the RFP to gopasspw to make that clearer.

support

XStatic is a Python web development tool for handling required static data
files from external projects, such as CSS, images, and JavaScript. It provides
a lightweight infrastructure to manage them via Python modules that your app
can depend on in a portable, virtualenv-friendly way instead of using embedded
 copies.
 .
FileSaver.js implements the saveAs() FileSaver interface in browsers that do
 not natively support it.
 .
FileSaver.js is the solution to saving files on the client-side, and is
perfect for webapps that need to generate files, or for saving sensitive
information that shouldn't be sent to an external server.

Horizon.
