Re: O: cowsay -- configurable talking cow

2018-10-15 Thread Paul Hardy
retitle 910035 O: cowsay -- configurable talking cow

I was not aware of the controversy involving Bug #910343. When I
looked at this package a few weeks ago, that bug had not been filed.
I am going to leave this package orphaned.

At the time, I saw an RFH for a kangaroo cow (bug #700576, filed over
5 years ago). I decided to try to find a reasonable ASCII kangaroo as
a starting point. Last night I got permission to use a nice one that
someone else had drawn. I was going to file a patch but saw that the
package had become orphaned since the last time I looked at it, so I
adopted it.

I cannot sympathize with the people who filed bug #910343; someone
else will have to add what they are asking for if it does happen.
Thus I believe the right thing for me to do is to leave this package
orphaned (as the person who filed bug 910343 asked the previous
maintainer to do), and just file a kangaroo cow patch as I originally
intended. I will upload the patch shortly.

Also, "cowsay-off" should be renamed to "cowsay-offensive" as per
current Policy (which even uses cowsay as an example).

Thanks,

Paul Hardy

It had a trivial RC bug for 9 months ( https://bugs.debian.org/885672 )

This one looks okay and I have helped upload this package. Nitpicking
one more issue: you should be more verbose in
writing debian/changelog entries, at least you should have closed the
ITA bug (#910575) in the changelog entries as described
in developers-reference (

you must close your ITA bug manually by yourself.

I request an adopter for the apipkg package.

The package description is:
With apipkg you can control the exported namespace of a Python package and
greatly reduce the number of imports for your users. It is a small pure
Python module that works on virtually all Python versions, including
CPython2.3 to Python3.1, Jython and PyPy. It co-operates well with Python's
help() system, custom importers (PEP302) and common command line completion
 tools.

No confirmation is needed, please just adopt the package. Until this is closed,
I'll further taking care of this package.

Hi,

Here's a review.

 * the debian/changelog has a typo in your email address, introduced in
your latest commit. be more dilligent and review diffs before
pushing! :) i have fixed it and pushed.

 * it is customary (but not mandatory) to use the same license as
upstream for the debian/* files. You use a BSD-3 license while
upstream uses Apache-2... that seems like a gratitious change. not a
   blocker.

 * nice note about vault in the README.Debian. care to link against
other WNPP bug reports there (opening them as needed)?

 * I haven't audited the upstream source, I assume you have taken at
least a cursory look to make sure it's not total junk.

 * lintian warns us about this:

W: python-hvac: new-package-should-not-package-python2-module python-hvac
W: python-hvac: multi-arch-same-package-calls-pycompile postinst:6
W: python3-hvac: multi-arch-same-package-calls-pycompile postinst:6

The latter should probably be fixed.

Otherwise things look good! I can sponsor this when you're ready - just
change the changelog to update the release and we're good to go.

Cheers,

A.
