Bug#921989: ITP: sozu -- a fast, reliable, hot reconfigurable HTTP reverse proxy

2019-02-10 Thread Nicolas Braud-Santoni
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Nicolas Braud-Santoni

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

* Package name: sozu
  Version : 0.11.0
  Upstream Author : Geoffroy Couprie
* URL : http://sozu.io
* License : AGPL-3.0
  Programming Lang: Rust
  Description : a fast, reliable, hot reconfigurable HTTP reverse proxy

Its authors intend it to be “the most reliable reverse proxy ever”:

- - it should never crash (currently fixing the remaining panics)
- - you should not need to restart it
  - it can receive configuration changes from a unix socket at runtime
  - it should be able to upgrade without any downtime
- - it should not have exploitable memory errors
  - even if it has one, workers will be sandboxed
- - you set up a limit on the number of concurrent connections to a worker
  - the reverse proxy will refuse new connections over that limit,
instead of requesting unavailable resources like memory

Moreover, HTTP frontends currently-available in Debian are either fairly
low-performance, or written in languages that do not guarantee memory safety,
making them a never-ending source of remotely-exploitable bugs.

As such, I believe sozū fills a gap within Debian's package ecosystem.

I intent to package it, and its various components, as part of the Debian Rust
team, and maybe get involved in upstream development (author in X-Debbugs-CC).

Best,

  nicoo

Bug#921980: O: posixtestsuite -- POSIX conformance test suite report log

2019-02-10 Thread Guillem Jover
Package: wnpp

I intend to orphan the posixtestsuite package.

The package description is:
 The POSIX Test Suite is a free (as in speech) test suite with the goal
 of performing conformance, functional, and stress testing of the IEEE
 1003.1-2001 System Interfaces specification in a manner that is agnostic

 .
 This package only provides the test suite results in a log file. If you
 want to run the testsuite, use the source package of the same name (e.g.
 apt-get source posixtestsuite).

Upstream is dead, as it was merged into the Linux Test Project some
time ago:

anyone wanting to take over, might prefer to spend the effort instead
ressurrecting the ltp package. See #672776.

2019-02-10 Thread François Mazen
retitle 834214 ITA: zipios++ -- a small C++ library for reading zip
files
thanks

(Adding Mentors to get more answers of questions below)

Hello,

I volunteer to maintain zipios++ package.

The upstream has changed a lot, like moving to github [1].
I have few questions about the package name:

 * There is a new major release 2.x.x that potentially breaks the API.
Should I re-brand the package to reflects this change (like zipios++2)?

 * The upstream decided to drop the "++" at the end of the name [2].
Should I do the same?

 * The current library package name is "libzipios++0v5", why the "0v5"
at the end? Can I drop it?

Thanks,
François

Kodi 18 needs flatbuffers, too.
I see there is recent activity in the Salsa repo and I'd love to see an upload

missing from the packaging.

Any help is welcome, please send merge requests as you see fit. Currently, I
don't have any real piece of software that uses flatbuffers, so I can't really
test it. Care to give it a try using the packages generated from the salsa
repo to build kodi 18?

2019-02-10 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Package: wnpp

Owner: Reinhard Tartler

* Package name: golang-github-containers-storage
  Version : 1.5-1
  Upstream Author :
* URL : https://github.com/containers/storage
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: Go
  Description : Go library for handling how containers are stored on disk

 Please see

https://www.redhat.com/en/blog/working-container-storage-library-and-tools-red-hat-enterprise-linux
 for some more background on this library. It is a dependency for skopeo,
 podman and buildah.

 Suggestions for improvements of the package description would be much
 appreciated.

 storage is a Go library which aims to provide methods for storing
 filesystem layers, container images, and containers. A containers-storage
 CLI wrapper is also included for manual and scripting use.
 .
 Operations which use VMs expect to launch them using 'vagrant',
 defaulting to using its 'libvirt' provider. The boxes used are also
 available for the 'virtualbox' provider, and can be selected by setting
 $VAGRANT_PROVIDER to 'virtualbox' before kicking off the build.
 .
 The library manages three types of items: layers, images, and containers.
 .
 A layer is a copy-on-write filesystem which is notionally stored as a set
 of changes relative to its parent layer, if it has one. A given layer can
 only have one parent, but any layer can be the parent of multiple layers.
 Layers which are parents of other layers should be treated as read-only.
 .
 An image is a reference to a particular layer (its top layer), along with
 other information which the library can manage for the convenience of
 its caller. This information typically includes configuration templates
 for running a binary contained within the image's layers, and may include
 cryptographic signatures. Multiple images can reference the same layer,
 as the differences between two images may not be in their layer contents.
 .
 A container is a read-write layer which is a child of an image's
 top layer, along with information which the library can manage for
 the convenience of its caller. This information typically includes
 configuration information for running the specific container. Multiple
 containers can be derived from a single image.
 .
 Layers, images, and containers are represented primarily by 32 character
 hexadecimal IDs, but items of each kind can also have one or more
 arbitrary names attached to them, which the library will automatically
 resolve to IDs when they are passed in to API calls which expect IDs.
 .
 The library can store what it calls metadata for each of these types of
 items. This is expected to be a small piece of data, since it is cached
 in memory and stored along with the library's own bookkeeping information.
 .
 Additionally, the library can store one or more of what it calls big
 data for images and containers. This is a named chunk of larger data,
 which is only in memory when it is being read from or being written to
 its own disk file.
