Bug#976174: Made an itp

2020-12-22 Thread Devops PK Carlisle LLC
Thanks for responding.

If I understand the definitions correctly, I should resubmit this as an
RFP since it has never been included in a Debian (or other Linux) release?

Being kind of careful about the definition of a package here...

The software is here as a git

https://github.com/pkcarlislellc/git-papershaper

here as a tarball:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/papershaper/

It is open source licensed, and does not download anything as part of
the install process. It has two dependencies: Python and the lynx
browser. Python 2 and 3 versions are included in the tarball but it is
presumed that the preferred Python version is now Python 3, so that is
the default.

It does optionally download images, but only on execution.

You created an itp so an intent to package.
If not willing to propose a apckage should be an rfp request for package.
Ideally you package your app and propose it for review and upload.
Requirements are an open source license and package install should not
download anything.
Only its execution can download remote stuff.

Given how the last opus update happened (as an NMU), no.

But since multiple packages need this, maybe salvaging could
apply. The questions raised wrt. symbols should be taken upstream,
I guess.

Since multiple packages need this, each of them shipping their
own opus copy is directly against Policy…

I agree that that’s not in time for bullseye, but perhaps this
software is then just not suitable for a release? Alternatively,
ignoring this issue would “work”, but it’s not a thing I’d want
to keep perpetually.

>What's wrong with this approach?

Taking the upstream packaging. Upstream is not a Debian Developer
and has almost no idea how to package for Debian. Even looking at
their copyright file alone should tell you it’s extremely incomplete.

Upstream packaging also contains a binary DLL without sources in
their distfile, which is grounds for an ftpmaster rejection.

I take my DD duties, including the licence review, seriously. I’ve
looked at at least the headers of each and every single file in
the distfile. In general, I _never_ reuse upstream packaging, even
if I sometimes look at what extra things they did e.g. for .desktop
files or so. This has proven correct many times.

>, also providing a -headless package for the server.

Since the server also needs Qt and JACK for the inner operation,
this will not save anything. I’m convinced it’s not worth it. I
had looked at this for a bit.

Indeed. Like I said, maybe the software is not suitable.
Or you just want to ignore this. I did not have any pressing
reason to get this into stable, but I was asked by someone else
last week and you now, so maybe other people do, so I probably
should do something.

Given the low severity of the opus issue (same version as the
one shipped in main, either of them unpatched), I agree we
probably can ignore this for one release.

If you wish I can also update my packaging and upload this.
Should be quick enough…

By using this role in the driver implementation module, an abstract method is

Hi Matthias,

>this is an ITP which didn't see any progress for the past eight months.

yes, sorry about that… I found some issues with it back then,
but don’t remember precisely which ones now. Could’ve been
network, not code-related.

Ah: #686777 blocks removal of the embedded libopus in favour
of the system-provided one. This was something I considered
a blocker for getting this into testing/next-stable. Looking
at the currently packaged opus though it’s the same upstream
version with no patches, so, identical code.

   Fix blocked by [7]686777: libopus-dev: libopus misses opus-custom modes

   Outlook: I have an experimental package with embedded libopus, but it
   needs more fixes especially upstream before I consider it suitable
   for Debian

This is what the ITP says…

>Do you still plan to get this included for bullseye? If not, I'll try
>to get packages into the archive in time for bullseye.

If you have interest and time, I’d agree to hand it over.

git clone https://evolvis.org/anonscm/git/alioth/jamulus.git
to retrieve my last WIP state. The package was working last
time I tried, but it needs updating to latest upstream, of
course.

Bug#977885: ITP: libdata-uriencode-perl -- encodes and decodes complex data structures for use in URI's

2020-12-22 Thread Paul Gevers
Package: wnpp
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libdata-uriencode-perl
  Version : 0.11
  Upstream Author : Paul Seamons perlspam at seamons dot com
* URL : https://metacpan.org/release/Data-URIEncode
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : encodes and decoded complex data structures for use
in URI's

The world of the web works off of URI's. The Query string portion of
URIs already support encoding of key/value paired data - they just don't
natively allow for complex data structures.

There are modules or encodings that do support arbitrarily complex data
structures. JSON, YAML and Data::Dumper all have their own way of
encoding complex structures. But then to pass them across the web, you
usually still have to URL encode them and pass them via a form parameter.

Data::URIEncode allows for encoding and decoding complex (multi level)
data structures using native Query String manipulators (such as CGI.pm).
It takes complex data and turns it into a flat hashref which can then be
turned into a URI query string using URL encoding. It also takes a flat
hashref of data passed in and translates it back to a complex structure.

I intent to work with the Perl team to get this under their umbrella,
but I haven't discussed that yet. My ultimate goal is to package
Logitech Squeezebox, however, there's a couple of hurdles first.

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

We request an adopter for the python-requests-toolbelt package.

The package description is:
 Collection of utilities for python-requests
 It provides transport adapters: FingerprintAdapter, SSLAdapter,
 SourceAddressAdapter, SocketOptionsAdapter, TCPKeepAliveAdapter

Petter and I both no longer have need for the package as it was package as a
dependency for creepy which is no longer in the archive.

It has picked up a few other reverse dependencies since though, so the package
is used.

The old Alioth git repository can be found archived here:
https://alioth-archive.debian.org/git/collab-maint/

It could be a good package for a new-comer to pick up. Perhaps as part of the
Debian Python Modules Team?

Regards,

Ross Gammon

Bug#977872: ITP: golang-github-cli-safeexec -- safer version of exec.LookPath on Windows

2020-12-22 Thread Anthony Fok
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Anthony Fok

* Package name: golang-github-cli-safeexec
  Version : 1.0.0-1
  Upstream Author : Mislav Marohnić , GitHub Inc.
* URL : https://github.com/cli/safeexec
* License : BSD-2-clause
  Programming Lang: Go
  Description : safer version of exec.LookPath on Windows

 safeexec is a Go module that provides a safer alternative to exec.LookPath()
 on Windows.
 .
 The following, relatively common approach to running external commands
 has a subtle vulnerability on Windows:
 .
   import "os/exec"
 .
   func gitStatus() error {
   // On Windows, this will result in .\git.exe or .\git.bat being executed
   // if either were found in the current working directory.
   cmd := exec.Command("git", "status") return cmd.Run()
   }
 .
 Searching the current directory (surprising behavior) before searching
 folders listed in the PATH environment variable (expected behavior)
 seems to be intended in Go and unlikely to be changed:
 https://github.com/golang/go/issues/38736
 .
 Since Go does not provide a version of exec.LookPath() that only searches
 PATH and does not search the current working directory, this module provides
 a LookPath function that works consistently across platforms.
 .
 Example use:
 .
   import (
   "os/exec" "github.com/cli/safeexec"
   )
 .
   func gitStatus() error {
   gitBin, err := safeexec.LookPath("git")
   if err != nil {
   return err
   }
   cmd := exec.Command(gitBin, "status")
   return cmd.Run()
   }
