Bug#1019105: RFP: lossless-cut -- Swiss army knife of lossless video/audio editing

2022-09-03 Thread Joao Eriberto Mota Filho
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-Cc: Mikael Finstad

* Package name: lossless-cut
  Upstream Author : Mikael Finstad
* URL : https://github.com/mifi/lossless-cut
* License : GPL-2
  Programming Lang: JavaScript
  Description : Swiss army knife of lossless video/audio editing

LosslessCut aims to be the ultimate cross platform FFmpeg GUI for extremely
fast and lossless operations on video, audio, subtitle and other related media
files. The main feature is lossless trimming and cutting of video and audio
files, which is great for saving space by rough-cutting your large video files
taken from a video camera, GoPro, drone, etc. It lets you quickly extract the
good parts from your videos and discard many gigabytes of data without doing a
slow re-encode and thereby losing quality. Or you can add a music or subtitle
track to your video without needing to encode. Everything is extremely fast
because it does an almost direct data copy, fueled by the awesome FFmpeg which
does all the grunt work.

Features

* Lossless cutting of most video and audio formats.
* Smart cut (experimental).
* Losslessly cut out parts of video/audio (for cutting away commercials
  etc.)
* Losslessly rearrange the order of video/audio segments.
* Lossless merge/concatenation of arbitrary files (with identical codecs
  parameters, e.g. from the same camera).
* Lossless stream editing:
- Combine arbitrary tracks from multiple files (ex. add music or
  subtitle track to a video file).
- Remove unneeded tracks.
- Replace or re-encode only some tracks.
- Extract all tracks from a file (extract video, audio, subtitle,
  attachments and other tracks from one file into separate files).
* Batch view for fast multi-file workflow.
* Keyboard shortcut workflow.
* Losslessly remux video/audio into a different container (file) format.
* Take full-resolution snapshots from videos in JPEG/PNG format, or export
  ranges of video frames to images.
* Manual input of cutpoint times.
* Apply a per-file timecode offset (and auto load timecode from file).
* Edit file metadata, per-track metadata and per-track disposition.
* Change rotation/orientation metadata in videos.
* View technical data about all tracks.
* Timeline zoom and frame/keyframe jumping for cutting around keyframes.
* Video thumbnails and audio waveform.
* Saves per project cut segments to project file.
* View FFmpeg last command log so you can modify and re-run recent commands
  on the command line.
* Undo/redo.
* Give labels to cut segments.
* Annotate segments with tags.
* Import/export segments: MP4/MKV chapter marks, Text file, YouTube, CSV,
  CUE, XML (DaVinci, Final Cut Pro) and more.
* MKV/MP4 embedded chapters marks editor.
* View subtitles.
* Customizable keyboard hotkeys.
* Black scene detection.
* Divide timeline into segments with length L or into N segments or even
  randomized segments!

Example lossless use cases

* Cut out commercials from a recorded TV show (and re-format from TS to
  MP4).
* Remove audio tracks from a file.
* Extract music track from a video and cut it to your needs.
* Add music to a video (or replace existing audio track).
* Combine audio and video tracks from separate recordings.
* Include an external subtitle into a video.
* Quickly change a H264/H265 MKV video to MOV or MP4 for playback on
  iPhone.
* Import a list of cut times from other tool as a EDL (edit decision list,
  CSV) and run these cuts with LosslessCut.
* Export a list of cut times as a CSV EDL and process these in another
  tool.
* Quickly cut a file by its MP4/MKV chapters.
* Quickly cut a YouTube video by its chapters (or music times from a
  comment).
* Change the language of a file's audio/subtitle tracks.
* Attach cover art to videos.
* Change author, title, GPS position, recording time of a video.
* Fix rotation of a video that has the wrong orientation flag set
- Great for rotating phone videos that come out the wrong way without
  actually re-encoding the video.
* Loop a video / audio clip X times quickly without re-encoding.
* Convert a video or parts of it into X image files (not lossless).

WARNING: Problem to package it for Debian: lossless-cut build depends of
 electron. See #842420.

Bug#440253: Please package inform 7

2022-09-03 Thread Jacob Nevins
The first release of open-sourced Inform 7 that includes Linux binaries,
and a Linux GUI, is now available, so I suppose this is now ripe for
packaging in Debian, should anyone be up for it.

https://github.com/ganelson/inform/releases/tag/v10.1.2
is the first overall Inform 7 release that includes Linux binaries.
(The first official release of the open-source version was on 21 August,
but without finalised Linux integration.)
This version number primarily denotes the toolchain, but also
incorporates specific versions of the GUIs.

I believe
https://github.com/ptomato/inform7-ide/releases/tag/2.0.0
is the source code for the version of the Linux IDE that's included in
that.

The tag and binaries are only a few hours old at this point; I don't
know if detailed Linux release notes are coming.

INSTALL.md in the inform7-ide repository looks to have a few clues
relevant to distro packagers. This forum thread where the IDE developer
previously sought feedback on release candidates may also be useful:
https://intfiction.org/t/release-candidate-of-inform-7-ide-for-gnome-testing-help-wanted/55045

One detail about the IDE that might be relevant for packaging is that,
unlike previous versions, new IDE versions reportedly "feature the
ability to select the version of Inform used, so that if v10.1.0 does
not agree with your existing Inform project, you can easily revert that
project to use 9.1, 9.2 or 9.3".

While Debian is unlikely to ever package those old closed-source
9.x versions of the toolchain, presumably the same will apply to new
10.x+ versions. This might inform the division into packages and their
dependencies.

The package description is:
 The program gst123 is designed to be a more flexible command line player in
 the spirit of ogg123 and mpg123, based on GStreamer. It plays all file formats
 supported by GStreamer, so if you have audio/video collections which contain
 different file formats, like flac, ogg and mp3, you can use gst123 to play all
 your audio/video files.

Bug#1019046: O: buzztrax -- Modular music composer

2022-09-03 Thread Sebastian Dröge
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
Control: affects -1 src:buzztrax

I intend to orphan the buzztrax package.

The package description is:
 Buzztrax aims to be a music studio that allows one to compose songs using
 only a computer with a soundcard. If you’ve used tracker programs like
 FastTracker, Impulse Tracker, or the original AMIGA SoundTracker, that will
 give you an idea of how one can sequence music in Buzztrax. The Buzztrax
 editor uses a similar concept, where a song consists of a sequence with
 tracks and in each track one uses patterns with events (musical notes and
 control changes). In contrast to other Tracker programs, tracks are not
 simply sample players: a user can make a song using an arrangement of virtual
 audio plugins that are linked together to create different effects. Each of
 these machines can be controlled realtime or via patterns in the sequencer.

Bug#982985: RFP: multi-timer -- App to set multiple timers sequentially.

2022-09-03 Thread Tobias Frost
In #1002295#110 there are indications that upstream is not really interested
in feedback from disributions how to integrate better / improve stuff:

  - Consider sending your patches upstream.

  I told upstream about the files that I made but they made the app for Ubuntu
and don't care for making it work well on various DEs.
  And they don't care about the .desktop and other things e.g. the man page
that complete the app.

(from #1002295#110)

I wonder, with that feeback, if it is sensible to package for Debian.

 A powerful package manager for Linux and other Unix systems that
 makes package management reliable and reproducible. Nix provides
 atomic upgrades and rollbacks, side-by-side installation of multiple
 versions of a package, multi-user package management and easy setup
 of build environments.
 .
 NOTE: This package only provides the nix binaries. One still needs
 to setup directories, environments variables and configuration files
 to use nix as described in the nix manual.
 The package nix-setup-systemd provides such a setup using systemd
 mechanisms, also see /usr/share/doc/nix-bin/README.Debian.
