  Description : Firefox browser plugin to bypass various paywalls

Add-on allows you to read articles from (supported) sites that implement a
paywall. You can also add a domain as custom site and try to bypass the
paywall.
.
Note: this plugin may leak information about your web browsing based on the
techniques used to bypass paywalls. For example, for some sites it will load
text from Google's webcache, thereby letting Google know that you read a
certain article. The plugin only operates on sites that you opt-into.

I use this package on both firefox and chromium, and would welcome this
to be co-maintained by Debian Mozilla Extension Maintainers if they're
interested. I've already got a working package, but I'm still trying to
figure out whether we really need separate source packages for the firefox
and chromium plugins.
--- End Message ---
--- Begin Message ---
FTP Master rejected my upload due to legality concerns (specifically,
"the owner of the content behind the paywall has a clear intention.

At least in Germany it is not allowed to bypass such mechanism").

I decided not to argue, for two reasons:
1) I'm just not familiar with German law, and
2) The impetus for packaging the extension was the removal of it from
Mozilla's extension repository
(https://www.ghacks.net/2023/04/20/mozilla-removes-bypass-paywalls-clean-extension-from-its-add-repository/);
however, it's now back in Mozilla's repository via

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bypass-paywalls-clean-d/
3) And, though it wasn't known at the time, is particularly relevant now
- Google is dropping their cache, per
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/02/google-search-kills-off-cached-webpages/.
A lot of the extension's functionality works by displaying article text
from Google's cache. It's unclear if and how this will affect the extension.

As such, I'm closing this ITP and documenting it as software that can't
be packaged for Debian.

Bug#1062827: RFP: pydevtool -- CLI dev tools powered by pydoit

Python dev tool. doit powered, integration with:
- click and rich for custom CLI
- linters: pycodestlye, pyflakes

pydevtool is used by scipy's new dev.py developer script,
which upstream now intends us to use for running scipy tests, see
https://scipy.github.io/devdocs/dev/contributor/devpy_test.html

Until pydevtool is available, our scipy build will have to invoke
pytest directly, which means the debian test environment is discrepant
from that expected by scipy developers until pydevtool becomes
available.

Uses doit, so should be maintained by the Debian Python Team
alongside the doit package.

Bug#1062808: RFP: python-pyhanko -- Sign and stamp PDF files

2024-02-03 Thread Bastian Germann

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Control: block -1 by 1062706

* Package name: python-pyhanko
* URL : https://github.com/MatthiasValvekens/pyHanko
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Validates X.509 certificates and paths

The pyHanko library roughly consists of the following components.

* The pyhanko.pdf_utils package, which is essentially a (gutted and heavily modified) fork of
PyPDF2, with various additions to support the kind of low-level operations that pyHanko needs to
support its various signing and validation workflows.

* The pyhanko.sign package, which implements the general signature API supplied
by pyHanko.

* The pyhanko.stamp module, which implements the signature appearance rendering & stamping
functionality.

* The pyhanko.keys module with utilities to handle key and certificate loading.

* Support subpackages to handle CLI and configuration: pyhanko.config and pyhanko.cli. These mostly
consist of very thin wrappers around library functionality, and shouldn’t really be considered
public API, except for the parts used in the plugin system.

The library is needed for xhtml2pdf to update to a newer version.

  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Easily add custom views to the Django admin

 AdminPlus aims to be the smallest possible extension to the excellent Django
 admin component that lets you add admin views that are not tied to models.
 It allows one to add simple custom views without mucking about with hijacking
 URLs, and providing links to them right in the admin index.

I intend to maintain this as part of the DPT.
