Bug#611044: ITP: animata -- real-time animation software

2011-01-24 Thread Alexandre Quessy

Owner: Alexandre Quessy alexan...@quessy.net

Animata is a real-time animation software, designed to create
interactive background projections for concerts, theatre and dance
performances, and promotional screenings.

The peculiarity of the software is that the animation - the movement
of the puppets, the changes of the background - is generated in
real-time, making continuous interaction possible. This ability also
permits that physical sensors, cameras or other environmental
variables can be attached to the animation of characters, creating a
cartoon reacting to its environment. For example, it is quite simple
to create a virtual puppet band reacting to live audio input, or set
up a scene of drawn characters controlled by the movement of dancers.

In contrast with the traditional 3D animation programs, creating
characters in Animata is quite simple and takes only a few minutes.
On the basis of the still images, which serve as the skeleton of the
puppets, we produce a network of triangles, some parts of which we
link with the bone structure. The movement of the bones is based on
a physical model, which allows the characters to be easily moved.

Animata can be connected with widespread programming environments
used by multimedia developers and artists in order to make use of the
possibilities of these applications in the fields of image editing,
sound analysis, or motion capture.

Current version is 004.

The package provides one executable, and some examples.

I am interested in packaging, because live animation it involves
live animation, like the Toonloop software I work on. (whish is
already in Debian)

Here are some updates about the packaging of Toonloop.

I am still thinking about packaging Toonloop for Debian. Since I am the
upstream author, I improved it so that it no longer needs libraries that
are not yet in Debian sid. The current latest upstream release is 2.0.0.
I will package it soon with the pkg-multimedia team.

Description: Distributed process launching library for Python

With Lunch, one can launch software processes on several different
computers and make sure they keep running. This software was created to
suit the needs of new media artists for live performances and
interactive installations. Lunch is very useful software for artists
and people creating installation that need to run day and night.
It's very easy to launch software processes on many hosts via SSH
with this tool.

This package contains the lunch library for Python. There is already the
lunch package, which provides two executables. This package provides a
Python library to allow a developer to launch processes like the Lunch
application.

Lunch is written in Python with Twisted and GTK+.
See http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch for more information.

The latest tarball can be downloaded from this address:
http://alexandre.quessy.net/static/tarballs/

The license is GPL version 2 or above. Same for the packaging itself.

Bug#586873: ITP: spinframework -- spatial interaction framework

2010-06-23 Thread Alexandre Quessy
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexandre Quessy alexan...@quessy.net

The SPIN Framework allows for 'Spatial Interaction' in a networked
system of virtual environments. Tools are provided for high-level
layout of 3D content, visualization, and distribution of state over
networks. Possible application areas include:
  * Immersive Environments / Virtual Reality
  * Collaborative 3D authoring and editing
  * Telepresence
  * Visualization
  * Distributed Performance Art
  * Online Game / Metaverse Engines

One of the key features of the system is that spatial layout and
editing is done in real time rather than in an offline process.
This allows for rapid prototyping of virtual environments and
interaction. Network communication is achieved through
OpenSoundControl (OSC), allowing the use several existing systems
for control flow, including Pure Data, Max/MSP, Processing, etc.
The framework provides generic mechanisms for spatial manipulation,
based on geometric events (movement, intersection, incidence, etc.),
so a number of interaction paradigms can be explored.

Upstream authors:
   Mike Wozniewski (http://www.mikewoz.com)
   Zack Settel (http://www.sheefa.net/zack)

License: GPL version 3 or later
Current version is 0.3.1. Next stable release is 0.4.

The package provides two executables and some shared libraries.
I am considering splitting it up into the following packages:
  * libspinframework
  * libspinframework-dev
  * spinframework-tools
  * spinframework (as a metapackage)

Bug#586874: ITP: openscenegraph-genwrapper -- OpenSceneGraph introspection wrapper generator

2010-06-23 Thread Alexandre Quessy
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alexandre Quessy alexan...@quessy.net

Maco Jez's genwrapper is a utility program that reads C++ header files
and then automatically generates osgWrapper code from to use alongside
osgIntrospection.

GenWrapper was created as an 'ad-hoc' tool to support the development of
osgIntrospection and it was never intended to be used with anything
other than OSG source files, nor it was designed to meet requirements
other than the author's ones. GenWrapper was tested on the OSG source
tree ONLY and it's not known to work with anything else. If you want to
use GenWrapper on your own application's source tree, try to follow OSG
coding conventions and directory layout in order to minimize the risk of
failure. GENWRAPPER MAY OVERWRITE AND DESTROY YOUR FILES, USE AT YOUR
OWN RISK. ALWAYS MAKE BACKUPS!!!

Wrappers are generated from a two-phases process. The first phase
requires an XML description of source files to be created with Doxygen
(GenWrapper can build a Doxyfile for you). In the second phase
GenWrapper takes the XML input and generates C++ introspection wrappers
and optionally GNU makefiles and VS6 project files.

This code is released in the public domain.

You can download it from http://github.com/mikewoz/genwrapper

  Programming Lang: Python, C++
  Description : Live stop motion animation tool

 Toonloop is a live stop motion animation software. It aims to show
 the creation process the audience as well as the result of the
 creation. The frame by frame animation is made by adding frames one
 by one to a clip made of many frames. Clips are displayed in a never
 ending loop.

 Toonloop provides features such as onion skinning, and an intervalometer,
 which allows one to automatically create accelerated time lapse clips.
 It can be controlled using MIDI input, the Open Sound Control protocol
 or the FUDI protocol. (with Pure Data) Toonloop offers video effects written
 in the OpenGL Shading Language, (GLSL) to do chroma keying, luma keying,
 image adjustements and more. Different themes allow one to choose how the
 editing and playback viewports are displayed. The configuration can be
 saved and restored in the JSON format. Finally, Toonloop allows users to
 save their clips to the photo-JPEG video codec (using mencoder), and as
 well to JPEG images.

One can download Toonloop from http://alexandre.quessy.net/static/tarballs/
The releases in the 2.x branch will be rewritten in C++.

Toonloop in the 1.x series depends on python-pygame = 1.9.1 which is not yet

the 0.6 stable branch. When the Debian package will be considered ready
by the mentor, we will be able to call its version 0.6.0.

Description: The Lunch Distributed Process Launcher

With Lunch, one can launch software processes on several different
computers and make sure they keep running. This software was created to
suit the needs of new media artists for live performances and
interactive installations.

It provides the command-line lunch utility which can be invoked with a
GTK+ user interface.

Lunch is written in Python with Twisted and GTK+.
See http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch for more informations.

Lunch is very useful software for artists and people creating
installation that need to run day and night. It's very easy to launch
software processes on many hosts via SSH with this tool. I had a lot of
fun writing it, and will maintain it in the next few years. There are a
few things that I could do to improve it, but this release is in the
stable 0.2 branch and has not moved much since a few months and we use
it in productions at the Society for Arts and Technology. (SAT) I wrote
many software, but I definitely like this one!

A .deb and the original source can be downloaded from these addresses:

http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch/raw-attachment/wiki/WikiStart/lunch_0.2.21-1_all.deb
http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch/raw-attachment/wiki/WikiStart/lunch_0.2.21.orig.tar.gz

The license is GPL version 2 or above. Same for the packaging itself.
I am the upstream author.
