VTK consists of a C++ class library and several interpreted interface layers
including Tcl/Tk, Java, and Python. Kitware, whose team created and continues
to extend the toolkit, offers professional support and consulting services for
VTK. VTK supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms including: scalar,
vector, tensor, texture, and volumetric methods; and advanced modeling
techniques such as: implicit modeling, polygon reduction, mesh smoothing,
cutting, contouring, and Delaunay triangulation. VTK has an extensive
information visualization framework, has a suite of 3D interaction widgets,
supports parallel processing, and integrates with various databases on GUI
toolkits such as Qt and Tk. VTK is cross-platform and runs on Linux, Windows,
Mac and Unix platforms.

The package will be maintained in Debian Science Team.

Bug#888705: abseil-cpp packaging

2020-02-18 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi all,

I have dropped almost all static (*.a)-files from libraries, which
I maintain(ed). The main reason is the easier security fixes
if any appear in the library. One need then basically rebuild
the so-files. With statically linked code the security fixes are much
harder: one need to rebuild all build-depends. Some more info [1].

ABI-breakage between LTS-releases is not a big deal. We should
just change the SO-name of the library and force transition-process.

Bug#882761: ITP: opencascade -- Open CASCADE Technology is a suite for 3D surface and solid modeling

2017-12-02 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi,

from my point of view it is OK to switch to the original opencascade
implementation.
But one need:

- be sure that the all oce-dependent packages can be built against opencascade
- double check the licenses of all files.

It is a good time right now to do such large package transition because
we have about 1 year to finish it before the Debian will be frozen before
the next release.

There is even an old git-repo [1] which you can use for opencascade.
Feel free to join Debian science team to get an access to it.

PS Also I am looking for a freecad co-maintainer or somebody who can
take over this and dependent package.

Hi,

thanks for intending to package opencascade! I would though recommend not
to have both versions (original and the fork) in Debian at the same time.

If you have good reasons to bring back original version, please contact Debian

We will try to find a solution for that.

  Version : 2.1
* URL : https://github.com/google/cctz
* License : Apache-2.0
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Library for computing dates, times, and time zones

CCTZ contains two libraries that cooperate with to give C++ programmers
all the necessary tools for computing with dates, times, and time zones in a
simple
and correct manner. The libraries in CCTZ are:

   - The Civil-Time Library — This is a header-only library that supports
computing
 with human-scale time, such as dates (which are represented by the
cctz::civil_day
 class). This library is declared in include/cctz/civil_time.h.
   - The Time-Zone Library — This library uses the IANA time zone database that
is
 installed on the system to convert between absolute time and civil time.
This
 library is declared in include/cctz/time_zone.h.

The library will be maintained under the roof of Debian Science Team.

Bug#865564: ITP: wslay -- WebSocket library written in C

2017-06-22 Thread Anton Gladky
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Anton Gladky

* Package name: wslay
  Version : 1.0.1~39-g6abacc1
  Upstream Author : Tatsuhiro Tsujikawa
* URL : https://github.com/tatsuhiro-t/wslay
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : WebSocket library written in C

 WebSocket library written in C. It implements the protocol version 13
 described in RFC 6455. This library offers 2 levels of API: event-based
 API and frame-based low-level API. For event-based API, it is suitable
 for non-blocking reactor pattern style. You can set callbacks in various
 events. For frame-based API, you can send WebSocket frame directly.
 Wslay only supports data transfer part of WebSocket protocol and does not
 perform opening handshake in HTTP.
 .
 Wslay supports:
 .
  - Text/Binary messages.
  - Automatic ping reply.
  - Callback interface.
  - External event loop.
  - Wslay does not perform any I/O operations for its own. Instead, it
offers callbacks for them. This makes Wslay independent on any I/O
frameworks, SSL, sockets, etc. This makes Wslay portable across various
platforms and the application authors can choose freely I/O frameworks.

The package will be hosted on collab-maint.

Heaptrack traces all memory allocations and annotates these events with stack
traces. Dedicated analysis tools then allow you to interpret the heap memory
profile to:

  - find hotspots that need to be optimized to reduce the memory footprint of
your application
  - find memory leaks, i.e. locations that allocate memory which is never
deallocated
  - find allocation hotspots, i.e. code locations that trigger a lot of memory
allocation calls
  - find temporary allocations, which are allocations that are directly
followed by their deallocation

You can write him an email, if you want. Try to write changelog-entries
shorter: they should not tell the whole life-story.

dh 9 brings build-flags hardening and multiarch (maybe something else,
not sure).

Bug#691272: ITP: gnuplot-iostream -- Command-line driven interactive plotting program.

2012-10-23 Thread Anton Gladky
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Anton Gladky

* Package name: gnuplot-iostream
* URL : http://www.stahlke.org/dan/gnuplot-iostream/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Command-line driven interactive plotting program

This interface allows gnuplot to be controlled from C++ and is designed to be
the lowest hanging fruit. In other words, if you know how gnuplot works it
should only take 30 seconds to learn this library. Basically it is just an
iostream pipe to gnuplot with some extra functions for pushing data arrays and
getting mouse clicks. Data sources include STL containers (eg. vector or map)
and one or two dimensional Blitz++ arrays (of scalars or TinyVectors). Support
for other data sources should be easy to add.

Basically there are two functions defined: send() sends arrays of data values
(it is overloaded to do the right thing based upon what type of variable you
pass) and getMouse() gets the position of a mouse click. Everything else is
accomplished by sending commands manually to gnuplot via the iostream
interface.

The package will be maintained under debian-science team.

Bug#669160: ITP: sumo -- Simulation of Urban MObility

2012-04-18 Thread Anton Gladky
Hi Andreas,

it will be under debian-science umbrella [1].
Sorry, I forgot about long-description...

==
SUMO is a highly portable, microscopic road traffic simulation package
designed to handle large road networks. It is mainly developed by
employees of the Institute of Transportation Systems at the German
Aerospace Center. SUMO is open source, licensed under the GPL.

"Simulation of Urban MObility", or "SUMO" for short, is an open
source, microscopic, multi-modal traffic simulation. It allows to
simulate how a given traffic demand which consists of single vehicles
moves through a given road network. The simulation allows to address a
large set of traffic management topics. It is purely microscopic: each
vehicle is modelled explicitly, has an own route, and moves
individually through the network.

* License : Open Software License version 3.0
  Programming Lang: C++, Python
  Description : HPC Discrete Element Modelling Software

ESyS-Particle is Open Source software for particle-based numerical modelling.
The software implements the Discrete Element Method (DEM), a widely used
technique for modelling processes involving large deformations,
granular flow and/or fragmentation.
ESyS-Particle is designed for execution on parallel supercomputers,
clusters or multi-core
PCs running a Linux-based operating system. The C++ simulation engine
implements spatial
domain decomposition via the Message Passing Interface (MPI). A Python
wrapper API provides
flexibility in the design of numerical models, specification of
modelling parameters and contact logic,
and analysis of simulation data. ESyS-Particle has been used to
simulate earthquake nucleation,
comminution in shear cells, silo flow, rock fragmentation, and fault
gouge evolution, to name but a few applications.

LSMGenGeo is a library for creating geometry files used by ESyS-Particle.
It provides a convenient method for creating arbitrary geometries of simple
spherical particles and indivisible particle clusters. An LSMGenGeo script
written in Python specifies the geometry that will be written to a text file
and the format that this file takes. The geometry file can then be read
by an ESyS-Particle script.
