I never considered this as an option because no bugs are reported against this package but on the other hand the legacy encoding inside it makes it not very useful (considering there are alternative fonts). However since this package is part of the core of Debian, I prefer your taking over to be announced first in debian-devel (and thats why I am sending my reply to debian-devel too). Let me remind to the readers of debian-devel that currently there are two console packages in Debian -- kbd and console-tools. Console-tools has no upstream maintainer and because of this the Debian maintainer of console-tools has aready tagged several bugs as non-fix. The console utilities of the installer are entirely based on kbd and not on console-tools. Because of this kbd needs to be properly maintained. I requested adopter for this package because it was never my intention to maintain "kbd". The maintainer of "kbd" is the group "Console utilities maintainers" and when this group reduced to only one member (me) I had to take over. Actually it was never my intention to maintain "kbd", but its maintainer was the group "Console utilities maintainers" and it seems currently I am the only member of this group... :) Here are the reasons why I am unable to maintain "kbd" properly and why a new maintainer is wanted: 1. I have absolutely no experience in compiling utilities like the utilities in "kbd". I am not sure I will be able to fix any compilation errors if such errors occur. 2. While I have some experience in the script part of the package, I can not effectively watch these scripts because their effect is canceled by the scripts in the package console-setup (which I maintain). 3. (This is not a kbd-related problem.) Recently I am unable to process the email messages I receive as promptly, as a Debian maintainer should do. I think the package is currently in a more or less clean state. I haven't fixed #443645 and #443606 because I think the new maintainer should decide what should be done (these bugs are easy to fix but they allow two alternative solutions). There are patches in BTS about #190385, #190386 and may be #190387 but I haven't tried to fix things I don't understand. As of #399531, in BTS there is a suggestion how to fix. This usually means that the N: source package will not work correctly on all currently released N: architectures. Bug#156852: ITP: ttf-dustismo -- general purpose gpl'ed truetype sans serif font
Hi! I have missed the discussion about this font. My opinion about the name of the font packages is that they should use the convention ttf[-foundryname]-fontorfamilyname or ttf-foundryname. A couple of years ago I created the package scalable-cyrfonts. I decided to put in it all Cyrillic fonts I know about. Now I realise that this was not a smart decision because all Cyrillic fonts contain also the Latin script, so this package can be usefull also to the Latin users. So now I am considering name changing. Instead of a package ttf-latin I suggest to create a metapackage scalable-latin-fonts. It should depend not only on TrueType, but on any other good scalable Latin fonts. My last note is about the TrueType format. When a few months ago I tried to switch my environment to UTF-8 I realised that the XFree86 backends don't support multibyte encodings for Type1 fonts. Thats why I created package ttf-cyrillic. I used the scripting language of pfaedit in order to convert fonts automaticaly in TrueType format during the compilation of the source package. I saw that the fonts were oughfull on the screen. This is because the hinting of the TrueType fonts doesn't work well in Debian due to problems with patents. I've discussed the problem with friends; we concluded that we should use CID fonts instead of TrueType fonts. Anton Zinoviev P.S. I'd like to ask you about your packaging plans.

The word database shares the same license, but I was unable to find the upstream author of the word database. That's why I am going to package kbedic without the word database and thus the package will be in section contrib. The license of the program is written in Bulgarian, here is my translation to English: At present KBE Dictionary is distributed with no specific license. It's just open source with no warranties and with the hope that it will be usefull to your work. You may use and modify the program and the database provided you follow these two conditions: 1. The new product is with open sources. 2. You mention the name of KBE Dictionary and the webpage of the project. You must follow these two conditions if you make changes in the current sources, or if you make complete new product that uses portions of the KBE Dictionary's sources.
