Bug#623531: O: libgimp-perl -- Perl support and plugins for The GIMP

2011-04-20 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the libgimp-perl package.
The package is extremely outdated and mostly useless at the moment. It
would needs to be updated to the new upstream:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp-perl/

The package description is:
The Gimp module includes the Perl modules necessary to write
Perl-based plugins for The GIMP. It includes several plugins with
 various useful features.

mplayerplug-in is currently unmaintained upstream in favor of
gecko-mediaplayer. It currently does not work with quite a lot of
embedded videos on the web. This package should probably be removed if
nobody is willing to maintain it.

Bug#402589: mzscheme debian packages

2007-11-21 Thread Ari Pollak
The package is currently orphaned (though I will fix a major problem if
one arises), and nobody has stepped up with a firm commitment to
actually continue maintaining it. There have been a few vague offers,
but nobody has actually sat down to do the work. If you feel comfortable
enough, you can start working on updating the package currently in
subversion at svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-plt-scheme/drscheme/trunk.
Note that there are some outstanding items in the TODO.Debian and the
bug tracker that could be fixed fairly easily.
I'd be glad to help you out with questions along the way, but note that
this is slightly more complex than the average Debian package.
Eventually if there's enough interest, the pkg-plt-scheme project can be
used to coordinate all of the packages that depend on PLT Scheme (though
hopefully not that depend on the drscheme/mzscheme libraries, since
those change names with every version).

If not, or if it has low priority for you, would you consider helping

Hpricot is a fast, flexible HTML parser written in C. It's designed to be very
accomodating (like Tanaka Akira's HTree) and to have a very helpful library
(like some JavaScript libs -- JQuery, Prototype -- give you.)

Also, Hpricot can be handy for reading broken XML files, since many of the same
principles are used. If a quote is missing, Hpricot tries to figure it out.
If tags overlap, Hpricot works on sorting them out.

2006-01-11 Thread Ari Pollak
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

The current PLT Scheme (drscheme) maintainers would like to put this
package up for adoption. I don't have enough knowledge about Scheme, or
especially PLT Scheme, to continue maintaining this in its current
state. There is some cleanup that needs to be done with the package,
outstanding bugs need to be fixed, it needs upgrading to version 300.

I'd be happy to sponsor a non-Debian Developer who wishes to maintain this,
or to co-maintain this package with someone who can help me with some
of the outstanding issues. An ideal candidate would be able to work closely
with upstream development.

ufraw has a preview image and lots of options.

gimp-dcraw is a bare-bones import without preview and with too few
options -- using it is hit-and-miss and the results still require
 some postprocessing in the gimp.

The bottom line is that gimp-dcraw is unuseable when you want to do a
 high-quality import; ufraw works.

Description : a standalone redesign of the Mozilla mail component

Mozilla's Thunderbird mail client is a redesign of the Mozilla mail
component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform stand alone mail
application using the XUL user interface language. We are modeling
ourselves after the Mozilla Firebird rewrite of the Mozilla browser. Our
intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another non
mozilla.exe browser) as their primary browser and wants a mail client
based on mozilla that plays nice with their browser. Currently,
mozilla -mail is not a good option for these users because link clicks
and attachments end up going to mozilla browser windows instead of the
preferred browser. In addition, by focusing solely on stand alone mail,
we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and
performance of the mail client by removing components and chrome we
don't need. On top of that, the UI becomes much cleaner as a stand alone
application as opposed to being part of the mozilla suite.

Description : Console-based AOL Instant Messenger client

pork is an ncurses-based AOL instant messenger client. It uses the
OSCAR protocol (the one the windows client uses) to access AIM. Pork
features Perl scripting; an online help system; the ability to
configure nearly all aspects of the program's look-and-feel; an alias
system; and a powerful, fully-configurable key binding system. It
supports being logged in with more than one screen name at the same
time. The default look-and-feel of the client is modeled after the
ircII IRC client. Anyone comfortable using ircII (or any clients
derived from it -- e.g., epic, BitchX, etc.) will feel comfortable
 using pork.

Bug#180014: ITA: gdm - GNOME Display Manager

Upstream Author : Martin K. Petersen [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gdm

Description : GNOME Display Manager (for Gnome2)

This is basically the same gdm package based on Ryan Murray Colin
Walters' packaging, but the latest version which integrates with GNOME2.
I won't be uploading anything for at least a week and a half so I can
get input from people who would know better than I as to whether this
should even be uploaded - Ryan has said that he won't replace gdm with a
newer version because GNOME2 doesn't run on all architectures yet, but
the people who can run GNOME2 shouldn't be penalized with a GNOME1
version of gdm.

Tentative packages are located at

Bug#180014: ITA: gdm - GNOME Display Manager

2003-02-06 Thread Ari Pollak
Just following Christian's suggestion, since as far as he is concerned,
Ryan is no longer the maintainer of gdm.. And seeing as he is one of two
main organizers of GNOME2 in Debian, I'd assume he knows a lot better
about what should be done with a GNOME2 component.

Bug#173210: ITP: trackballs -- An OpenGL-based game similar to Marble Madness

  Version : 0.2.2
Upstream Author : Mathias Broxvall matbr @ home.se
* URL : http://www.lysator.liu.se/~mbrx/trackballs/
* License : GPL for game, public-domain for music
Description : An OpenGL-based game of marbles through a labyrinth

Trackballs is a simple game similar to the classical game Marble Madness
on the Amiga in the 80's. By steering a marble ball through a labyrinth
filled with vicious hammers, pools of acid and other obstacles the
player collects points. When the ball reaches the destination it continues
at the next, more difficult level - unless the time runs out.
.
This game is not intended to be a replica of Marbe Madness but rather
inspired by it. The game is also highly configurable by using a
scripting extension (Guile) and it provides a simple editor by which new
levels can easily be created.
.
For more information and screenshots please see
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~mbrx/trackballs/.

Please note that I am waiting for two things before this package is
released:
1) Guile 1.6 in unstable, since it will not compile without the new
version
2) New sound effects, since the existing ones have copyright problems

Also note that there will be two packages, trackballs and
trackballs-data. The main trackballs package will run fine without the
- -data package, but because the music and sound effects are not DSFG-free
(as far as I can tell), and because the music takes up 95% of the size
of the package, it will go in non-free as a Recommended package and will
only be updated when the music or sound effects are updated, to save on
download/upload time.

Really Slick XScreenSavers (rsxs) is an X11 port of the Really Slick

applications or can be integrated into XScreenSaver's list of active
screensavers.
.
rsxs contains the following eye-candy:

* rs-plasma: Draws gooey colourful plasma stuff. Crank up the speed and
 make it psychadelic!
* rs-cyclone:Simulates tornadoes on your computer screen.
* rs-fieldlines: A simulation of electric field lines between charged
 particles. Zap!
* rs-helios: Particles explode onto the screen through smooth Helion
 surfaces.
* rs-euphoria: Don't look at this if you suffer from motion sickness.

Bug#153977: xinetd

2002-07-23 Thread Ari Pollak
I'd really like to see xinetd become the standard inetd by the next
Debian release. Is anyone planning on taking steps to make this happen?
It would seem easy enough to me, either by porting update-inetd to write
an xinetd.conf, or by making sure all packages which use inetd also
provide a file in /etc/xinetd.d/, as well as a backwards-compatibility
mode to call update-inetd if inetd still exists on the system (perhaps
someone can write a dh_installxinetd to do this automagically?)
