Bug#462553: O: libgtk-perl -- Perl module for the gtk+ library

2008-01-25 Thread Bart Martens
Package: wnpp

I'm orphaning this package now. There's already libgtk2-perl, and
removing the old GNOME libraries is a release goal for lenny (460797).
Maybe the solution is to remove libgtk-perl from Debian.

Bug#349064: ITP: flash-plugin -- installer for Macromedia Flash Plugin

2006-01-20 Thread Bart Martens
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Bart Martens <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: flash-plugin
  Version : 7.0.61.1
  Upstream Author : Bart Martens <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://members.chello.be/ws35943/flash-plugin/
* License : GPL
Description : installer for Macromedia Flash Plugin

This package downloads the Macromedia Flash plugin and installs it.
The plugin itself is not in this package.

Homepage of the plugin itself: http://macromedia.mplug.org/

The Debian package flash-plugin is meant as an alternative or as a
replacement for flashplugin-nonfree.

Similarities: Both Debian packages are GPL, and download the .tar.gz
from the Macromedia website to comply to the Macromedia license.

Some differences:
- less bugs :-)
- simple scripting in preinst and postinst, no ruby
- uses wget, so simple proxy support
- versions are linked (MD5), thus support downgrade of the plugin
- asks to accept the Macromedia license before downloading the plugin
- no support (yet) for installing a manually downloaded file

Bart Martens

I agree. I've contacted the flashplugin-nonfree maintainer repeatedly,
but no reaction at all.

On the other hand, flashplugin-nonfree has some history. To me, debugging
it seems "an incredible waste" compared to how simple the rewrite is.

So, one conclusion is clear : Nobody wants a second installer for the

Thanks for the comments leading to this consensus.

Less clear to me is "what now". The maintainer of flashplugin-nonfree
seems to be busy with other things. Would an NMU be appropriate now ?

Bug#213361: ITP: kbtin -- A text-based MUD client

Hello Adam,

I see that linda complains about this:

W: kbtin; The file config.guess contains a timestamp line that is less than
2002.
W: kbtin; The file config.sub contains a timestamp line that is less than 2002.

The debian/changelog contains multiple entries. I'm not sure whether
that's OK for an initial release.

I would add this line to the description in debian/control, as described
in the developers reference (note that extra space):

  Homepage: http://kbtin.sourceforge.net/

I think that debian/copyright is incomplete. I should contain lines
like this:

Hello Jan,

About your package of picprog I found here:
http://www.janw.easynet.be/picprog/i386/

It's good to mention the homepage in the description in debian/control,
and how you did it is almost perfect. How it should be done:
http://www.us.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-best-pkging-practices.en.html#s-bpp-upstream-info

The debian/changelog has multiple entries. I'm not sure whether that's
OK for an initial version to be uploaded in Debian.

I would add "Closes: #208692" in the debian/changelog to close your ITP
bug report.

I see that your package depends on libstdc++6-dev which pulls in gcc-3.4
and it's friends. Does libstdc++6-4.0-dev work for your package ?

I have not tested your package.

Bug#366360: RFP: gtkmm2.8 -- C++ wrappers for GTK+ 2.8

Package: wnpp

Bug#366360: gtkmm2.4/2.6/2.8/2: version numbers

2006-05-08 Thread Bart Martens
Hi Bradley,

About bug 366360 and these pages:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gtkmm.html
http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gtkmm2.4.html
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=361757
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=349822

I see that Debian package gtkmm2.4 contains upstream gtkmm version 2.6.
That feels somewhat confusing. I think that gtkmm version 2.6 should
have been packaged separately in a package named gtkmm2.6, or the
package named gtkmm2.4 should have been named gtkmm2 from the start. If
the latter is correct, then I think that the way to go is:
- copy gtkmm2.4 to gtkmm2
- update gtkmm2 to upstream version 2.8
- encourage gtkmm2.4 users to switch to gtkmm2
- remove gtkmm2.4

Is this correct, or am I missing something? Can I help?

Bart Martens

Bug#400530: ITP: tremulous-editor

2007-11-27 Thread Bart Martens
Hi,

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tremulous-editor/tremulous-editor_0.0.20060518.dsc

The file debian/copyright in the package at mentors contains this:

gtkradiant.conf was downloaded from:
http://www.clanopener.com/catalyc/trem.game_1.5.zip
tremulous.conf was downloaded from:
http://tremulous.net/users/jex/radical/common_files.zip

The file trem.game_1.5.zip contains, as far as I can see, no copyright
and license information that would allow this file to be distributed by
Debian, not even in the non-free section.

Bart Martens

Description: Run processes and applications under pseudo-terminal
empty is a utility that provides an interface to execute and/or interact with
processes under pseudo-terminal sessions (PTYs). This tool is useful in
programming of shell scripts designed to communicate with interactive programs
like telnet, ssh, ftp, etc. In some cases empty can be the simplest
replacement for TCL/expect or other similar programming tools because empty
can be easily invoked directly from shell prompt or script, and does not use
TCL, Perl, PHP, Python or anything else as an underlying language.

Anyone is welcome to take over maintenance of this Debian package. It's
OK to do that without asking me. Non-DD's are welcome to ask my help.

In the meantime I intend to continue to do basic package maintenance.

OK, I'll take it. Thanks you!

Bug#98362: ITP: s10sh -- for Canon PowerShot digital cameras

2001-05-22 Thread Bart Martens
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I want to package s10sh. The upstream author, Antirez,
agrees that s10sh is packaged for Debian.

The s10sh home page: http://www.kyuzz.org/antirez/s10sh.html

Some info on s10sh, copied from the website:
"s10sh is a USB/serial userspace driver for the Canon
PowerShot digital cameras. Using s10sh you can download,
upload and explore the images caputered with your
PowerShot camera. The interface is quite similar to
DOS's command.com."

The license is GPL. The software can be downloaded from
the website http://www.kyuzz.org/antirez/s10sh.html

Bug#81708: flash: to gpl or not to gpl

2001-05-28 Thread Bart Martens
Hi,

How's the progress on this ITP? Who is currently working on
this? I think officially Robert McQueen is "owner" of this
ITP. Is Matt Zimmerman taking over?

I see that this ITP is about trying to package flash with GPL.
Are you sure flash _can_ be packaged GPL? Have you found
solutions for the problems described in the mails in this ITP?

If flash cannot be packaged GPL, do you intent to package it
in the non-free section for flash support for Mozilla?

I see that flash is already packaged for Netscape. I'd like
to see flash packaged for Mozilla. Should we package flash
again separately for Mozilla? Or can we modify the existing
package to support flash for both Netscape and Mozilla (this
is a question on dependencies)?

When I surf with Mozilla to a flash-only website (yuk), I'm
suggested to download a tarball from Macromedia. The most
straightforward solution seems to be to package that tarball
into a Debian package. Or should we use another source than
Macromedia to make a package for flash for Mozilla?

I'm interested in packaging the Macromedia tarball into a
package, unless _this_ ITP produces a legal and usable
package for flash for Mozilla within a reasonable time.

Is it legal to simply package flash from Macromedia in the
non-free section? I guess not. Should someone ask Macromedia
for permission? How is this officially done? I guess an
official Debian developer, which I'm not (yet?), should ask
Macromedia...

I'll do that. Since the scope of _this_ ITP is to package flash with GPL, I'll
post a separate ITP to document the effort for packaging Macromedia flash in the
non-free section for support for Mozilla.

Bug#99134: ITP: mozilla-flash-shockwave -- Macromedia flash and shockwave for Mozilla

2001-05-29 Thread Bart Martens
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I intent to package Macromedia flash player and shockwave player
for Mozilla.

These two players can both be downloaded together from [1], in
one tarball.

Note the existence of ITP "flash -- GPL Flash Library" [2]. Matt
suggested there "You should examine the tarball from Macromedia
and read the license agreement to determine whether it is
redistributable. If it is, it can go into non-free.".

The license is online at [3]. I think that the license allows
redistribution as a Debian package. I'll contact
debian-legal@lists.debian.org and Macromedia to be sure.

Note that flash and shockwave are already packaged for Netscape
in the package netscape-base.

Any suggestions are very welcome!
