Package: wnpp
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-de...@lists.debian.org
Control: affects -1 src:reprepro

Hi,

To tackle the much-requested #570623 multiple version management in reprepro, I took over Maintainership of the package
and integrated the existing work in experimental. There are three important bugs that were filed against it that need to
be fixed to finally merge that work to unstable. The bugs are

#1051537
#1016111
#1017983

One of them is surely a big endian-only bug, the other ones are database
consistency problems that might be related.

As many in the Debian world depend on reprepro to manage their repositories, I would like to ask for help because I did
not have the capacity in the last two years (and probably not in the remaining year to come during the trixy cycle) to
give those bugs the attention that they deserve.

Thanks for your help,
Bastian

I guess you expect the rest of the patch set at
https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium/tree/master/patches/core/ungoogled-chromium
to be applied. Please ask for that on the chromium package's bug tracker.

If it is indeed, ungoogled, then the package's description should say
so, shouldn't it? Currently it just says:

 Description: web browser
Web browser that aims to build a safer, faster, and more stable internet
  browsing experience.

This package contains the web browser component.

which doesn't hint at it being ungoogled at all.

That is true, and it is probably not to the extend of ungoogled chromium.
I have just said that Debian's chromium is already patched
and the package maintainers would probably welcome integrating patches
that remove privacy violations.

Bug#1062808: RFP: python-pyhanko -- Sign and stamp PDF files

* Package name: python-pyhanko
* URL : https://github.com/MatthiasValvekens/pyHanko
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Validates X.509 certificates and paths

The pyHanko library roughly consists of the following components.

* The pyhanko.pdf_utils package, which is essentially a (gutted and heavily modified) fork of
PyPDF2, with various additions to support the kind of low-level operations that pyHanko needs to
support its various signing and validation workflows.

* The pyhanko.sign package, which implements the general signature API supplied
by pyHanko.

* The pyhanko.stamp module, which implements the signature appearance rendering & stamping
functionality.

* The pyhanko.keys module with utilities to handle key and certificate loading.

* Support subpackages to handle CLI and configuration: pyhanko.config and pyhanko.cli. These mostly
consist of very thin wrappers around library functionality, and shouldn’t really be considered
public API, except for the parts used in the plugin system.

The library is needed for xhtml2pdf to update to a newer version.

Bug#1062706: ITP: python-pyhanko-certvalidator -- Validates X.509 certificates and paths

2024-02-02 Thread Bastian Germann

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Bastian Germann

* Package name: python-pyhanko-certvalidator
* URL : https://github.com/MatthiasValvekens/certvalidator
* License : Expat
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Validates X.509 certificates and paths

A Python library that offers functionality for validating X.509 digital
certificates, which are widely used in security systems such
as TLS/SSL, email encryption, PDF signatures, and more.

The pyhanko-certvalidator library performs the following main tasks:
  - Certificate Validation: The library checks the validity of X.509
digital certificates. This includes checking the certificate signature,
expiration date, issuing authority (CA), certificate revocation, and
other important properties.
  - Chain of Trust: It helps to build and validate the certificate chain,
that is, the sequence of certificates that links a specific certificate
to a trusted certification authority (root CA).
  - CRL (Certificate Revocation Lists) Check: The library checks whether a
certificate has been revoked by querying Certificate Revocation Lists
(CRLs) published by certification authorities.
  - Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) Check: In addition to CRL
checking, certvalidator can check the status of a certificate through
the Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) to determine whether the
certificate is still valid.
  - Custom Expiration Policy: You can configure and apply custom validity
policies to meet specific certificate validation requirements.
  - Extensibility: The library is designed to be extensible and customizable.

This is a fork of the python-certvalidator package.
I need it in order to package pyhanko.

done. I still got two minor issues I haven't been able to solve: To build the documentation a patch
changing the version number is needed. I tried using DEB_UPSTREAM_VERSION from the enviroment

but wasn't successful; so I hardcoded it for now. What would be the proper way to do so, i.e. using
DEB_UPSTREAM_VERSION ?

See my commit after yours.

The second issue is that I wanted to remove the *.json data after installing so that doesn't end up
in the binary package but execute_after_dh_auto_install: and a subsequent rm didn't do the trick.

Any idea why this isn't working here ?

Because you used the path where dh_python3 moves the files. That program kicks in after
dh_auto_install. In general, it is a good idea to use find debian/python3-schwifty -name ... -delete
for such an endeavour. But I have fixed it with an env variable that I have introduced for the first
question.

Bug#1051219: ITA: gumbo-parser -- pure-C HTML5 parser

Am 16.09.23 um 18:20 schrieb Aymeric Agon-Rambosson:

After the experimental version is uploaded, you will have to request
a transition slot from the release team.

I'm currently reviewing https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/ReleaseTeam/Transitions. I am reading that I will have to test
build the reverse dependencies (stage 4), and report about it in the release.debian.org bug. This part should be fine.

You can find the transition tracker at
https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/auto-gumbo-parser.html
All of the listed packages build fine with the experimental gubo-parser.

But it also says that I will maybe have to make uploads to reverse dependencies (stage 10). I will probably need your
help for this, since I'm not authorised to.

That will not be needed. Next step for you is to file the transition bug.
Youcan see already filed ones at:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=release.debian.org

In the bug you should tell them that there are no build failures with the
experimental version in the reverse dependencies.

I have decided to import another upstream
(https://codeberg.org/grisha/gumbo-parser) according to the
recommendation of Mr. Kirillov (the upstream maintainer), which I
preferred to the idea of Mr. Lefevre to follow sigil-gumbo.

That is okay.

However, it turns out that Mr. Kirillov bumped the shared library
version in the last release. I changed the binary package name
accordingly (libgumbo1 to libgumbo2), along with the symbols file,
but since I am only Debian Maintainer
(DC184C7074DC4FD338D86CF97E32B4D596D6F8F6), I don't think I will
be able to upload (If I'm not mistaken, the package will have to
go through NEW because of the new libgumbo2 binary package). Would
it be possible for you to upload my changes to the archive (if you
agree with them, of course) ?

If you grant me access to the salsa repo, I'll push my changes to
it.

Please push your changes and make it an experimental upload.
When that is done, please ping me again so that I can upload the pkg.
Please do not forget to push an upstream/... tag.

After the experimental version is uploaded, you will have to request
a transition slot from the release team.

Bug#1051532: O: smuxi -- flexible, user-friendly and cross-platform IRC client

2023-09-09 Thread Bastian Germann

Package: wnpp

smuxi is obviously not maintained anymore. I am orphaning the package now.

Description:
Smuxi is an irssi-inspired, flexible, user-friendly and cross-platform IRC
client for sophisticated users, targeting the GNOME desktop.
 .
Smuxi is based on the client-server model: The core application (engine) can
 be placed onto a server which is connected to the Internet around-the-clock;
one or more frontends then connect to the core. This way, the connection to
IRC can be kept up even when all frontends have been closed. The combination
of screen and irssi served as example for this architecture.
 .
Smuxi also supports the regular single application mode. This behaves like a
typical IRC client; it doesn't need separate core management and utilizes a
local engine that is used by the local frontend client.
