Bug#567142: O: libqwt

2010-01-27 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Orphaning libqwt (version 4) as I no longer have an interest in
packaging it. Version 5 already exists as a separate package in the
archive.

The only remaining dependency on this library is fslview. Ideally
fslview could be updated to use qwt5, in which case this older qwt could
be removed from the archive.

Yes, aspell dictionary packages should Provides: aspell-dictionary. The
dictionary packaging otherwise looks OK with a very quick glance.

The website also says:

Why the hell should this be packaged for Debian?

* Package name: vux

  Description : a rating-based ogg and mp3 player

 vux is an ogg and mp3 utility that plays songs according to a rating
 system designed to keep track of user listening habits. It does this by
 making play choices based on a rating system with thresholds that change
 as the overall ratings change. The thresholds are based on average
 rating and standard deviation. Ratings increase when you play complete
 songs and decrease when you skip them. The ratings scorefile is plain
 text for manual editing.

  Description : Perl interface to the GNU Aspell library

 This module provides a Perl interface to the GNU Aspell library.
 The GNU Aspell library provides access to system spelling libraries, including
a
 spell checker.
 This module is to meet the need of looking up many
 words, one at a time, in a single session.
 .
 This is a perl xs interface which should provide good performance compared
 to forking the aspell program for every word.
 .
 For example, a tiny run of about 400 word lookups resulted in:
 .
 aspell-fast: 18.44 seconds
 pspell-fast:  0.63 seconds

  Description : Implementation of a "Singleton" class

 This is the Class::Singleton module. A Singleton describes an object class
 that can have only one instance in any system. An example of a Singleton
 might be a print spooler or system registry. This module implements a
 Singleton class from which other classes can be derived. By itself, the
 Class::Singleton module does very little other than manage the instantiation
 of a single object. In deriving a class from Class::Singleton, your module
 will inherit the Singleton instantiation method and can implement whatever
 specific functionality is required.
 .
 For a description and discussion of the Singleton class, see

I think this description is too vague. I had to go to that URL and look
at the screenshots in order to figure out what kuake actually does.
Perhaps it would be more clear if you described the functionality (a
drop-down, translucent konsole window integrated with KDE...), followed
by something like "which mimics the Quake engine's console" (for those
who are familiar with Quake).

Bug#185647: O: qtella -- A gnutella client based on Qt

2003-03-20 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm orphaning qtella for the following reasons:

* Upstream's code is buggy as hell.
* The new interface *sucks*.
* Upstream is unresponsive and never fixes reported bugs.
* The packages it depends on have repeatedly broken qtella so it
  constantly has to be rebuilt.
* gtk-gnutella is far better.

In summary, it's just not a fun package to maintain. My final upload

Bug#301762: O: bbappconf -- Configuration tool for Blackbox application windows

2005-03-27 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the bbappconf package so I no longer use blackbox,
and thus have no need for this package.

The package description is:
 bbappconf makes it possible to set some options for the windows
 the blackbox window manager opens, such as:
  - workspace on which they should appear
  - titlebar display (visible or hidden)
  - stickiness
  - position and size of windows
 .

Does Debian really need a package for a trivial <10 line C program?

Bug#306694: ITP: qt-x11-opensource -- Qt 4 cross-platform C++ application framework

2005-04-27 Thread Brian Nelson
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: qt-x11-opensource
  Version : 4.0 beta 2
  Upstream Author : Trolltech AS
* URL or Web page : http://www.trolltech.com
* License : Dual GPL/QPL
  Description : Qt 4 cross-platform C++ application framework

Qt is a cross-platform C++ application framework. Qt's primary feature
is its rich set of widgets that provide standard GUI functionality.

Qt 4 is the next major revision of Qt, currently planned for a late Q2
release.

Preliminary packaging is available here:

  http://people.debian.org/~pyro/experimental/

I would like to group-maintain this package and have set the maintainer
to "Debian Qt/KDE Maintainers " in the
preliminary packages. Please let me know if this is inappropriate for
whatever reason.

I plan to maintain the packaging in a distributed version control
system, once I figure out which of the 20 or so is the most practical.

It's the upstream name. For whatever reason, Trolltech has chosen
different names for each major release:

Qt1: qt
Qt2: qt-x11
Qt3: qt-x11-free
Qt4: qt-x11-opensource

Qt5 will probably be qt-x11-foss or qt-x11-freeasinspeech or something
equally annoying.

I was thinking about naming it qt4-x11, but I'm not sure it's worth
deviating from upstream.

I CC'd [EMAIL PROTECTED] which I presume he reads. He's certainly

I'm already using a local subversion repository, so I'd be comfortable
with that. It's not the best for distributed development, but if it's
already in use for the KDE packages, it would probably make the most
sense to stick with it.

Yep, that's the plan.

I can sponsor you I guess, but I don't have a PPP link on which to test
it. I'd have to take your word on it that it works.

I have a couple comments:

* The patch that changes 0's to NULL's is pointless. In C++, NULL is
  just "#define NULL 0".

* The xlibs-dev build dependency is obsolete:

  Package: xlibs-dev
  [...]
  Description: X Window System client library development files pseudopackage
   This package smooths upgrades from Debian 3.0 by depending on libice-dev,
   libsm-dev, libx11-dev, libxext-dev, libxi-dev, libxmu-dev, libxmuu-dev,
   libxp-dev, libxpm-dev, libxrandr-dev, libxt-dev, libxtrap-dev, libxtst-dev,
   libxv-dev, pm-dev, x-dev, and xlibs-static-dev.  This pseudopackage is only
   depended upon by packages that haven't yet corrected their dependencies to
   reflect the new library arrangement.

It may be better to name it "-ukr" to make it more clear it's for

I have some debs of 4.0.0 built but I need to test them. I think
they're kinda broken because some stuff has moved around and changed
since beta2. Hopefully I'll have something usable and ready to upload
later on today.

I originally packaged this because scoop required it. However, since I
orphaned scoop, I no longer have a need for this.

Description: GUI client program for MySQL database server
 MySQL Navigator is a MySQL database server GUI client program. The purpose
 of MySQL Navigator is to provide a useful client interface to MySQL
 database servers, whilst supporting multiple operating systems and
 languages. You can currently import/export database, enter queries, get
 result sets, edit scripts, run scripts, add, alter, and delete users, and
 retrieve client and server information.
 .
  Homepage: http://sql.kldp.org/mysql/

I find myself rarely using this package, and upstream disappeared some
time ago.  So, orphaning...

AFAIK, the php aspell extension requires a ridiculously old version of
aspell, so it doesn't make sense to package it at all...
