Just Western mainstream media's propaganda. Bitcoin is today the
greenest industry in the world, and in 5 years might become carbon NEGATIVE.

Bug#772886:

2022-05-18 Thread Carlo Stemberger
X-Debbugs-Cc: team+cryptoc...@tracker.debian.org

Hi,
I'd like to see Bisq in Debian.

After 2714 days, nobody has taken this staff.

I'd like to do it myself, but:
1) It's a very big project;
2) I have 0 experience in packaging;
3) I'm not a Java programmer

Is there someone interested in helping me?

First step, I'd start by packaging bitcoinj[1]. I tried to build it[2] (`$
gradle clean assemble`), and all seems to work. What is the right team for
this? Debian Cryptocoin Packaging or Debian Java Packaging?

Thank you!

Best regards,
Carlo

Bug#856621: RFP: rein -- Rein client integration/staging tree

2017-03-02 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: rein
  Version : 0.3.0
  Upstream Author : David Sterry
* URL : https://reinproject.org
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  Description : Rein client integration/staging tree

Rein makes freelancing for Bitcoin easier than ever. The simple,
web-based python-rein client helps create jobs and bids as well as
multisig escrows that keep funds safe. You don't need to stay online for
others to find, bid or deliver on jobs.

We achieve decentralization by following the internet at large: cheap
hosting paid for with bitcoin enables users to store data across a
number of servers that may or may not be connected to one another. Since
not a lot of data or bandwidth are required, we can have redundancy,
reliability and censorship-resistance at low cost. Think $5 in bitcoin
per year to have your data on 10 independently-run servers.

Servers can be paid for their services but they do not necessarily need
to communicate with one other, and while the client attempts to validate
what it sees, this validation is not complete nor has the software seen
a security review. As such, you are advised to limit use of Rein to
small jobs where loss of funds or time spent would not present a
significant burden.

Bug#856577: RFP: python-bip32utils -- Utilities for generating Bitcoin Hierarchical Deterministic Wallet addresses using BIP0032

2017-03-02 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python-bip32utils
  Version : git
  Upstream Author : Pavol Rusnak
* URL : https://github.com/prusnak/bip32utils
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Utilities for generating Bitcoin Hierarchical Deterministic
Wallet addresses using BIP0032

The bip32utils library is a pure Python implementation of Bitcoin hierarchical
deterministic wallet ("HD Wallet") ECDSA key generation as specified in BIP0032
(Bitcoin Improvement Proposal #0032).

Deterministic ECDSA key generation allows creating a sequence of Bitcoin private
and public ECDSA keys from an initial seed and a hierarchical set of indices. A
number of benefits follow:

* An entire wallet can be backed up once by storing the wallet seed or master
  extended private key, and all future addresses in the wallet can be restored
  from it.
* The creation of public and private ECDSA keys may be separated from each
  other. That is, it is possible to create only the public ECDSA key half (and
  receiving address) of an ECDSA key pair, without the ability to create the
  private half. Thus, one can create receiving addresses on a public facing
  system that if compromised would not give the attacker the ability to spend
  bitcoin received at those addresses. A separate, offline machine can generate
  the corresponding private ECDSA keys and sign transactions.
* Public and private ECDSA keys may be created in a hierarchy, and control over
  or visibility of portions of the hierarchy may be delegated to third parties.
  This has uses for auditing, for separating ECDSA key sequences into different
  logical groups or accounts, and for giving 3rd parties the ability to create
  spending transactions without first getting a receiving address in advance.

Blockstack server provides decentralized DNS by using an underlying
blockchain. It enables human-readable name registrations on the Bitcoin
blockchain, along with the ability to store associated data in external
datastores. You can use it to register globally unique names, bind data
records with those names, and transfer them between Bitcoin addresses.
Anyone can perform lookups on those names and securely obtain the

Blockstack uses the Bitcoin blockchain for storing name operations and
data hashes, and the Kademlia-based distributed hash table (DHT) and
other external datastores for storing the full data files outside of the
blockchain.

Nik4 takes great care to preserve values you feed it. If you say you
need a 800×600 image, it won't take a pixel less or more. It won't
shrink a bounding box or distort lines when specifying so called "scale
factor". When you need a 300 dpi image, you tell it --ppi 300 and can be
sure you will get what you intended.

Also it can use real-world units, that is, millimeters (and prefers to).
Specify dimensions for printing, choose bounding box and ppi scale — and
the result won't disappoint. Options are intuitive and plenty, and you
will be amazed how much tasks became simpler with Nik4.

Lighthouse is a brand new approach to all-or-nothing fund raising. Using
advanced features of the Bitcoin protocol it is now possible to create
Kickstarter-style fund raising initiatives in an entirely decentralised way.
No middlemen unless you want them, and no fees beyond the usual Bitcoin
transaction fees (just a fraction of a dollar cent).

Bug#772886: RFP: bitsquare -- The decentralized bitcoin exchange

2014-12-11 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: bitsquare
  Version : 0.1.0
  Upstream Author : Manfred Karrer
* URL : https://bitsquare.io/
* License : AGPL
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : The decentralized bitcoin exchange

Bitsquare is a cross-platform desktop application that allows users to trade
fiat money (dollars, euros, etc) for bitcoin without relying on centralized
exchanges such as Coinbase, Bitstamp or (the former) Mt. Gox.

By running Bitsquare on their local machines, users form a peer-to-peer
network. Offers to buy and sell bitcoin are broadcast to that network, and
through the process of offering and accepting these trades via the Bitsquare
UI, a market is established.

There are no central points of control or failure in the Bitsquare network.
There are no trusted third parties. When two parties agree to trade fiat money
for bitcoin, the bitcoin to be bought or sold is held in escrow using
multisignature transaction capabilities native to the bitcoin protocol.

Because the fiat money portion of any trade must be transferred via
traditional means such as a wire transfer, Bitsquare incorporates first-class
support for human arbitration to resolve any errors or disputes.

Bug#742704: RFP: implicitcad -- Powerful, Open-Source, Programmatic CAD

2014-03-26 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: implicitcad
  Version : 0.0.3
  Upstream Author : Christopher Olah
* URL : http://www.implicitcad.org/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Haskell
  Description : Powerful, Open-Source, Programmatic CAD

ImplicitCAD is a programmatic CAD program, implemented in haskell. Unlike
traditional CAD programs, programmatic CAD programs use text descriptions of
objects, as in programming. Concepts like variables, control structures and
abstraction are used, just as in programming. This provides a number of
advantages:

* Objects can abstracted and reused
* Repetitive tasks can be automated
* Objects can be designed parametrically
* The usual tools for software development (like version control) can be used

The traditional example of programmatic CAD is OpenSCAD.

Generally, objects in programmatic CAD are built with Constructive Solid
Geometry or CSG. Unions, intersections and differences of simpler shapes
slowly build the object. ImplicitCAD supports all this and much more! For
example, it provides rounded unions so that one can have smooth interfaces
between objects.

It also directly provides GCode generation, and has a parser for OpenSCAD to
make it easier for people to transition.

Bug#736205: RFP: mitsuba-renderer -- Physically based renderer

2014-01-20 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: mitsuba-renderer
  Version : 0.4.5
  Upstream Author : Wenzel Jakob
* URL : http://mitsuba-renderer.org/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Physically based renderer

Mitsuba is a research-oriented rendering system in the style of PBRT, from
which it derives much inspiration. It is written in portable C++, implements
unbiased as well as biased techniques, and contains heavy optimizations
targeted towards current CPU architectures. Mitsuba is extremely modular: it
consists of a small set of core libraries and over 100 different plugins that
implement functionality ranging from materials and light sources to complete
rendering algorithms.

In comparison to other open source renderers, Mitsuba places a strong emphasis
on experimental rendering techniques, such as path-based formulations of
Metropolis Light Transport and volumetric modeling approaches. Thus, it may be
of genuine interest to those who would like to experiment with such techniques
that haven't yet found their way into mainstream renderers, and it also
provides a solid foundation for research in this domain.

The renderer currently runs on Linux, MacOS X and Microsoft Windows and makes
use of SSE2 optimizations on x86 and x86_64 platforms. So far, its main use
has been as a testbed for algorithm development in computer graphics, but
there are many other interesting applications.

Mitsuba comes with a command-line interface as well as a graphical frontend to
interactively explore scenes. While navigating, a rough preview is shown that
becomes increasingly accurate as soon as all movements are stopped. Once a
viewpoint has been chosen, a wide range of rendering techniques can be used to
generate images, and their parameters can be tuned from within the program.

Actually, no; I'm sorry...

I hoped to find some time for this, but currently I'm very busy.

I'd be happy to review/sponsor/co-maintain any work towards getting
this in to Debian. If there hasn't been any work, I'd be happy to take
over this ITP and upload a package.

I only:
1) downloaded the tarball
2) renamed it as kazam_1.3.0.orig.tar.gz
3) created a new directory (kazam)
4) initialized a repo Git into this directory
5) imported the tarball with git-import-orig (with the --pristine-tar
option)

Please note that probably newer versions have been released in the meantime.

Thank you for taking over this ITP.

 Messaggio originale
Oggetto:New LeoCAD version
Data:   Thu, 13 Dec 2012 15:33:27 -0800
Mittente:   Leonardo Zide
A:  leocad mailinglist

  I've uploaded a new version to the website, you can download it from
http://leocad.org/files/.

  The biggest change is in the pieces library, it uses a new format and
can optionally use the LDraw library directly. This will fix some
rendering bugs that were noticeable on stickers, colored patterns and
pieces with detailed geometry and also adds support to Joshua's texture
mapping extension.

Version 0.79 (13/12/2012)
 * Switched to a new library file format.
 * Added support for texture mapped pieces.
 * Added support for using the LDraw library directly.
 * Load color config from ldconfig.ldr where the library is located.
 * Save view layout between sessions.
 * Allow the pieces search text box to auto-complete when entering
piece numbers.

 * Fixed errors on big endian computers.
 * Zoom extents after loading a file.

Great!

I'd like to send the man page upstream, so I have 2 questions:

1) I read «This manual page was generated using html2man»; where is the
"source"?

2) Which is the license?

Thank you very much!

Bug#652662: RFP: sylli -- The SSP Syllabifier

2011-12-19 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: sylli
  Version : 0.9.8
  Upstream Author : Luca Iacoponi
* URL : http://sylli.sourceforge.net/
* License : Apache License
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : The SSP Syllabifier

Sylli is a universal syllabifier. Developed for Italian, it can easily
be adapted to any language that is claimed to respect the SSP. Sylli
divides timit, strings, files and directories into syllables and
provides other useful function for syllable analysis.

Even though Sylli comes out from a long tradition, it differs from other
syllabifiers in many features:

* it just does not try to obtain the syllabification out of a black box,
  nor by implementing an arbitrary number of rules or transformations.
  Sylli can be used to explore the principle it is based on and was
  designed with particular attention to phonological theories.
* It is modular. You can edit the sonority scale, test the ouptut, add
  your own transducers, even as external program, and costumise the
  output, with no changes to the core structure of the Syllabification
  Algorithm.
* It is accurate at least as much as other available syllabifiers for
  Italian. It is easy to use and to test. Sylli comes with a GUI which
  allows to edit and manage its modules, to choose syllabification
  options, and to run a demo on chosen syllabification clusters to test.
* A command-line version can be used for scripting and advanced usage,
  and as a python library, which make it 100% compatible with other NLP
  tools such as NLTK. The code is organised in a way that reflects the
  model proposed. The code is also simple and richly commented.
* Last but not least it is a free, even for commercial use,
  cross-platform open-source software.

Bug#648967: RFP: yawl -- a BPM/Workflow system

2011-11-16 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: yawl
  Version : 2.2.01
  Upstream Author : Arthur ter Hofstede
* URL : http://www.yawlfoundation.org/
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : a BPM/Workflow system

YAWL is a Java-based BPM/Workflow Management System. Based on a concise
and powerful modelling language, YAWL supports complex data, integration
with organizational resources and external applications, process
verification and process configuration.

YAWL offers the following distinctive features:
* YAWL offers comprehensive support for the control-flow patterns. It is
the most powerful process specification language for capturing
control-flow dependencies.
* The data perspective in YAWL is captured through the use of XML Schema,
XPath and XQuery.
* YAWL offers comprehensive support for the resource patterns. It is the
most powerful process specification language for capturing resourcing
requirements.
* YAWL has a proper formal foundation. This makes its specifications
unambiguous and automated verification becomes possible (YAWL offers two
distinct approaches to verification, one based on Reset nets, the other
based on transition invariants through the WofYAWL editor plug-in).
* YAWL has been developed independent from any commercial interests. It
simply aims to be the most powerful language for process specification.
For its expressiveness, YAWL offers relatively few constructs (compare
this e.g. to BPMN!).
* YAWL offers unique support for exception handling, both those that were
and those that were not anticipated at design time.
* YAWL offers unique support for dynamic workflow through the Worklets
approach. Workflows can thus evolve over time to meet new and changing
requirements.
* YAWL aims to be straightforward to deploy. It offers a number of
automatic installers and an intuitive graphical design environment.
* Through the BPMN2YAWL component, BPMN models can be mapped to the YAWL
environment for execution.
* The Declare component (released through declare.sf.net) provides unique
support for specifying workflows in terms of constraints. This approach
can be combined with the Worklet approach thus providing very powerful
flexibility support.
* YAWL's architecture is Service-oriented and hence one can replace
existing components with one's own or extend the environment with newly
developed components.
* The YAWL environments supports the automated generation of forms. This
is particularly useful for rapid prototyping purposes.
* Tasks in YAWL can be mapped to human participants, Web Services,
external applications or to Java classes.
* Through the C-YAWL approach a theory has been developed for the
configuration of YAWL models. For more information on process
configuration visit www.processconfiguration.com.
* Simulation support is offered through a link with the ProM
(www.processmining.org) environment. Through this environment it is also
possible to conduct post-execution analysis of YAWL processes (e.g. in
order to identify bottlenecks).

Bug#636094: RFP: python-pysvg -- Creating SVG with Python

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: python-pysvg
  Version : 0.2.1
  Upstream Author : Kerim Mansour
* URL : http://codeboje.de/pysvg/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Creating SVG with Python

pySVG is a pure Python library to create SVG documents. Essentially it
is a python wrapper around svg with the goal to allow people to "program
svg". pySVG can be used to produce svg as an outcome of algorithms you
implement (like koch curves, Lindenmayr systems etc.)

Working with pySVG is pretty straightforward. There is a small tutorial
in the docs folder but i would suggest refering to the testclasses in
the source.

Current status:
Pretty much all elements should be implemented. Type checking,
validation and value constraints are NOT. In short: currently you can
fill any element with more or less any content. Loading and storing of
SVG images also works.

Features:
* Shapes (circle, ellipses, rectangles, lines, polygons, polylines,paths)
* Text
* Containers (g-element, defs)
* Style attributes (stroke, filling, font)
* Transform (in groups)
* Filters
* Load/Store SVG files

There are already commercial tools in this area but Audiveris is, to our
knowledge, the only open-source OMR tool. It is a cross-platform
tool, written in Java, and tested on Windows and Linux. Mac OS would require a
volunteer.

Audiveris works with printed music sheets only, the task of recognizing
hand-written scores being significantly harder.

Bug#631455: RFP: iipimage -- Imaging server system for web-based streamed viewing and zooming of ultra high-resolution images

2011-06-23 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: iipimage
  Version : 0.9.9
  Upstream Author : Ruven Pillay
* URL : http://iipimage.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: JavaScript, Java, C++, ActionScript, Flex
  Description : Imaging server system for web-based streamed viewing and
zooming of ultra high-resolution images

IIPImage is an advanced high-performance feature-rich imaging server
system for web-based streamed viewing and zooming of ultra
high-resolution images. It is designed to be fast and
bandwidth-efficient with low processor and memory requirements. The
system can comfortably handle gigapixel size images as well as advanced
image features such as both 8 and 16 bit depths, CIELAB colorimetric
images and scientific imagery such as multispectral images.

Streaming is tile-based, making it possible to view, navigate and zoom
in real-time around gigapixel size images that would be impossible to
download and manipulate on the local machine. It also makes the system
very scalable as the number of image tile downloads will remain the same
regardless of the size of the source image.

Source images can be in either TIFF or JPEG2000 format. Whole images or
regions within images can also be rapidly and dynamically resized and
exported by the server from a single source image without the need to
store multiple files in various sizes.

Bug#629008: RFP: bitcoinj -- A Java implementation of a BitCoin client-only node

2011-06-02 Thread Carlo Stemberger
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: bitcoinj
  Version : r89
  Upstream Author : Jonny Heggheim
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/bitcoinj/
* License : Apache License 2.0
  Programming Lang: Java
  Description : A Java implementation of a BitCoin client-only node

BitCoinJ implements the native BitCoin P2P protocol, which allows it to
maintain a wallet and send/receive transactions without needing a local
copy of the official implementation. It comes with full documentation
and some example apps showing how to use the library.

The project aims to be easier to understand than the C++ implementation,
and be suitable for usage on constrained devices such as mobile phones.

BitCoinJ implements the "simplified payment verification" mode of
Satoshis paper. It does not store a full copy of the block chain,
rather, it stores what it needs in order to verify transactions with the
aid of an untrusted peer node.
