Bug#882973: O: pidgin-nateon -- Pidgin plugin for NateOn instant messaging service

2017-11-27 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the pidgin-nateon package.

The package description is:
This is a plugin for Pidgin which provides connections to NateOn instant
messaging service by SK Communications, Inc. (http://nateon.nate.com)

Information:

There is no replacement. This is why I orphan it rather than removing
it.

The NateOn messaging service is still in service but it has lost most of
the market share. I see no one using it around, but the popcon
graph still shows some installations.

The upstream and its forked version stopped the maintanance.

Bug#706656: On python power package used by Cura

Currently I'm planning to orphan this power package. If your cura
package still uses this and you are willing to maintain it, feel free to
take it.

no need to change the upstream source package name as long as there's

Debian does mistakes. Being in Debian is not a 100% proof of

 1. stardict1.3 dictionary: it is based on the dictinary in the stardict
1.3 written by Ma Suan. This software is under GPL-2. If it does not
conform to the DFSG, it should not exist in Debian either. However it
has been in the Debian for many years.

 2. xdict dictionary: xdict is also under GPL. And it has been in Debian.
Please refer to the package: dict-xdict.

IIUC stardict and xdict *programs* are under GPL but I can't find how
their dictionaries have been built. They just have been labled as
GPLed without clue. The old dict-xdict ITP has no clear explanation
about this issue except the upstream README.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=342816#15

A dictionary with reasonable quality is very difficult to build by
hackers for a short time. If such a big database appears suddenly by one
or a few hackers without a clear explanation, it is almost surely
converted from other dictionaries.

 3. cedict: it is under the CEDICT license.

I googled CEDICT and found the project used CC-BY-SA 3.0. Its dictionary
building history looks quite clear to me.

Bug#413305: O: ami

2007-03-03 Thread Changwoo Ryu
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I orphan ami package, as few people use it now and I don't use it.

Most Korean users I know already switched to other (and much better) Korean
IMs. It has problems like dependency on GTK+ 1.x. And the most serious
problem is that upstream is almost dead.

Information about this package:

 Package: ami

 Priority: optional
 Architecture: i386
 Depends: libc6 (= 2.3.5-1), libgdk-pixbuf2 (= 0.22.0), libglib1.2 (=

 It's not a plugin. Just a library.

Let me explain more. Libhangul is just a library implementing a few of
the Korean keyboard input algorithms. (computing precomposing/output
characters according to the input keys, handling Hanja conversion, etc.)

This library itself doesn't provide plugin system and it doesn't have
to. Rather other IM's Hangul plugins can be linked to this library.
The upstream author wrote many different kinds of Hangul input methods
(GTK+ module, XIM server, SCIM plugin, IIIMF plugin) and this library is
an effort to abstract the common code among his input method softwares.

The tarball is libhangul-x.y.tar.gz and the soname is libhangul.so.0. I
can't think of any better name.
