I'm more than willing to maintain it under the pkg-grass umbrella.

Dominic, if you could publish your SVN repository somewhere, I'll convert it
to a git repository (if Christophe is ok with that), and push it on
git.debian.org.

Christophe: I'm a DM, so only the first upload needs a sponsor DD. Afterwards
I can upload the package directly. I have no problems with Python, but might
need some help with the C++ part of the package.

Kindly,

PuDB is a full-screen, console-based visual debugger for Python.
Its goal is to provide all the niceties of modern GUI-based debuggers in a
more lightweight and keyboard-friendly package. PuDB allows you to debug code
right where you write and test it--in a terminal. If you've worked with the
excellent (but nowadays ancient) DOS-based Turbo Pascal or C tools, PuDB's UI
 might look familiar.

Hello,
what's the status of the ITP for the osm-gps-map library?

You'd be very welcome to maintain it under the pkg-grass umbrella, where we
are starting to maintain Openstreetmap-related software too.

If you're no more interested, please tell me, so that I can hijack the ITP and
upload the package to sid.

You shouldn't be scared by packaging, at all :)

However, I'm taking this over. I didn't see how good this project is, but a

I did not notice that discrepancy between the info page and the copyright
headers. In my debian/copyright [1] I tried to catch the most information
possible. But I admit I did not try to "contact upstream", sorry.

> Also, your package conflicts with many of the files contained in the filters

Sure, sorry for that.
Is there any chance for filter to provide a "libfilters" library to interface
with? I've packaged talkfilters because it was a possible use of libtranslate
[2] [3], but that's not really necessary. I could try to patch it so that it
uses your "filters" package, but that would need a library to use.

In the meanwhile, I'll rebuild libtranslate disabling support for talkfilters,
so that it (together with gnome-translate) can be uploaded.

Thank you for spotting the problem,
David

Hi Martin,
I Intent To Package (ITP) this software. I've already contacted the upstream
author to provide a better "Installation system", to make doing a Debian
package easier.

This bug will be closed as soon as the package will be uploaded (if I find a
sponsor).

Kindly,

Hi,
I'm sorry for the mess I've caused. I didn't notice that wicd was already

I just realized that after sending my reply to that ITP :(

Can't we propose him to upload it to experimental? That wouldn't hurt unstable
(thus also testing -- and stable) users, but we could still have Code::Blocks
inside Debian repositories.

Fully agree w.r.t. respecting upstream's decisions (ando also other

Again, why don't you propose it for experimental?

I'm currently using packages provided by the Code::Blocks team itself, plus the
wxWidgets from wxwidgets.org:

deb http://jens.lody.name/debian/ any main
deb-src http://jens.lody.name/debian/ any main
deb http://apt.wxwidgets.org/ etch-wx main

Sure: I've changed "netzmeister" to Matthias Gutmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
(which is the real name / address).
Before your reply we were planning on team-maintaining Code::Blocks -- if it
was the case. What do you think about this? (again: I'm talking about an
experimental package -- not unstable as its dependencies wouldn't be satisfied
in Debian at the moment)

And, well, being a member of both teams might gain some benefit to this package

I've just noticed that AcePerl doesn't provide *just* the Perl module -- but
also "acelib" (see acelib/) and some cgi-bins in acebrowser/ .

I'm accordingly changing the owner from Debian-Perl to Debian-Med (I suppose
Debian-Perl doesn't wish to maintain any non-Perl-modules-only packages, -- and
this is rather specific to Debian-Med).

Bug#476074: ITP: initng -- full replacement of the old sysvinit init system

* URL : http://www.initng.org/

Description : full replacement of the old sysvinit init system

Hi,
I'd like to reintroduce into Debian the initng package, since I've been using
it for years and it didn't cause too much problems (yet, it's not as stable as
sysvinit during upgrades, but does its job).

It has been removed some time ago from the archive:

=
[Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2007 22:58:03 +] [ftpmaster: Joerg Jaspert] Removed the
following packages from experimental:

initng |0.3.0-1 | arm, powerpc, s390
initng |0.5.2-1 | source, alpha, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel,
sparc Closed bugs: 435127

--- Reason ---
RoM: obsolete; inactive upstream; buggy
--
=

I'd like to argument on those reasons.

Firstly, it's not obsolete, since we only have sysvinit available (if we had
upstart, or something similar to initng, I could've agreed here -- and upstart
in Debian is way more experimental than initng).

Secondly, upstream isn't "inactive". It has just slown down a bit; a fact is the
release of initng-ifiles just yesterday (Apr 13, 2008).

Thirdly, it's not that buggy. I've been using it since version 0.3.$something
(I believe; well, it's been a long time ago), and it didn't give me much
problems. Sometimes happened that an upgrade failed (probably it could be
handled better via postinst), so I had to reboot with sysvinit to fix
things up (both systems can cohexist! :)).

I'm thus filing an ITP for initng (I'll soon file one for initng-ifiles, since
they have different sources). I've CCed [EMAIL PROTECTED] for
comments on this ITP.

Kindly,
David

Bug#526740: ITP: bpython -- fancy curses interface to the Python interactive interpreter

Owner: David Paleino

* Package name: bpython
  Version : 0.7.1
  Upstream Author : Name
* URL : http://www.noiseforfree.com/bpython/
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : fancy curses interface to the Python interactive interpreter

bpython is a curses interface to the Python interpreter, and has the
 following features:
 .
   * In-line syntax highlighting.
   * Readline-like autocomplete with suggestions displayed as you type
   * Expected parameter list for any Python function. Uses pydoc to attempt to
 divine params for C functions.
   * "Rewind" function to pop the last line of code from memory and re-evaluate.
Note: this is only really useful when laying out classes and functions,
since a true "undo" function is impossible, so be careful when using this.
   * Send the code you've entered off to a pastebin and display the pastebin URL
 for copying, etc.
   * Save the code you've entered to a file.
   * Auto-indentation.
   * Anti-Crash Mode.

Bug#531067: O: john -- active password cracking tool

2009-05-29 Thread David Paleino
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm hereby orphaning john.

It should be "team maintained", but I'm really the only one working on it. I've
done a big effort on looking for copyright issues on it [0] [1] [2], and on
patches [3] I was going to apply on the newest release, but now I feel I can't
keep up anymore with its maintainance.

Solar Designer, the upstream developer, is really collaborative: anyone with a
minimum of C knowledge, and some time, could easily maintain it. It has quite
some bugs I didn't have the time/the will/the ability to fix, so please also
look at them before going ITA.

Here's the package description:

john, mostly known as John the Ripper, is a tool designed to help systems
administrators to find weak (easy to guess or crack through brute force)
passwords, and even automatically mail users warning them about it, if it
 is desired.
 .
It can also be used with different cyphertext formats, including Unix's
DES and MD5, Kerberos AFS passwords, Windows' LM hashes, BSDI's extended DES,
 and OpenBSD's Blowfish.

I've done some work in git -- there's a new upstream version 1.7.3-1 ready to
go in, but I'm orphaning *before* getting it in. Please take a look at the
repository [4] too.

There's a pkg-john project on Alioth [5]: I will handover administrative rights
to whoever adopts john.

Kindly,
David

Yes, I remember our talk on IRC -- and I remember we decided not to merge the
two plugins together, maybe because we didn't want to special-case Debian? The
Debian "spam report" API should only be sent with msg-ids from messages sent to
*...@lists.debian.org. Has this been addressed in the upstream "merge"?

These are covered by mtkbabel too ;).

In what way? Does it have some "client" software for those devices?

some precompiled binaries (both for Windows and Linux), and after simply
removing them it doesn't compile. It does need at least two or three binaries

unknown to me, like "memdisk", or "ubn*".

This module provides an XPath engine, that can be re-used by other
module/classes that implement trees.
In order to use the XPath engine, nodes in the user module need to
mimick DOM nodes. The degree of similitude between the user tree and
a DOM dictates how much of the XPath features can be used. A module
implementing all of the DOM should be able to use this module very
easily (you might need to add the cmp method on nodes in order to get
ordered result sets).

Bio::ASN1::EntrezGene is a regular expression-based parser for NCBI Entrez
 Gene genome databases (<http://www.ncbi.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=gene>).
It parses an ASN.1-formatted Entrez Gene record and returns a data structure
that contains all data items from the gene record.
 .
The parser will report error & line number if input data does not conform to
the NCBI Entrez Gene genome annotation file format.

libbio-asn1-sequence-perl - parser for ASN.1-formatted NCBI Sequences
Bio::ASN1::Sequence is a regular expression-based Perl Parser for
ASN.1-formatted NCBI sequences. It parses an ASN.1-formatted sequence record
and returns a data structure that contains all data items from the sequence
 record.
 .
The parser will report error & line number if input data does not conform to
the NCBI Sequence annotation file format.
 .
The sequence parser is basically a modified version of the high-performance
Bio::ASN1::EntrezGene parser. However this standalone module exists since it
is more efficient to keep Sequence-specific code out of EntrezGene.pm.

Hi,
as per Debian Perl Policy, the package should be named libmail-spf-perl.

You could join the Debian Perl Group, please take a look at

http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org

Maintaining a package in a team is easier than doing all the work all alone.

> The source package would generate two binary packages: libmail-spf-perl

This could let you name your package mail-spf-perl: there's a discussion about
this on [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Please take a look at the
archives. (In two words: one could name the source package other than lib*-perl
if it brings something other than the Perl Module -- as the spf-tools in this
case -- but not everyone agrees)

Kindly,
David

libopenraw is an ongoing project to provide a free software implementation for
camera RAW files decoding. One of the main reason is that dcraw is not suited

API to build free software digital image processing application.
.
It also has the goal to address missing feature from dcraw like meta-data
decoding and easy thumbnail extraction.
