Bug#622960: RFA: freemind -- Java Program for creating and viewing Mindmaps

2011-04-16 Thread Eric Lavarde
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the freemind package.

The package description is:
 Taking the Concept-Mapping approach to Human-Computer Interface design.
 A mind mapper, and at the same time an easy-to-operate hierarchical editor
 with strong emphasis on folding. These two are not really two different
 things, just two different descriptions of a single application. Often used
 for knowledge and content management.
 .
 FreeMind doesn't work with classpath based Java implementations. Use OpenJDK
 (or Sun's Java), and check freemind(1) for more information.

Additional notes:
1. reason is lack of time.
2. upstream is supportive for anybody willing to take over. Contact them
   through the SourceForge project.
3. package is also used in Ubuntu, lot of visibility, yeah!
4. The source code of the package is available under
   http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-java/trunk/freemind/#_trunk_freemind_
   and is under group maintenance from pkg-java-maintainers, see for a
   start http://pkg-java.alioth.debian.org/
5. I'd be of course happy to support anybody willing to take over the
   package, and explain the tricks of the package if required (not many,
   I think).
6. I'll probably orphan the package with the next major release (1.0?).

Bug#478323: I could package Knoplerfish's Framework only

2010-02-13 Thread Eric Lavarde
retitle 478323 ITP: knopflerfish-osgi -- Knopflerfish framework
implementation of OSGi

thanks

As described below, I'll package the framework part, and place it under
Java maintainer control, so that anybody willing to add the bundles
could do it relatively easily.

Thanks, Eric

Sveinung Kvilhaugsvik wrote:

Question: should I close as well the RTP bug, or do you need also the
bundles part?

Feel free to close it as I no longer need the bundles.

BTW, I plan to rename the source packge to 'knoplerfish-osgi' and the binary
to 'libknoplerfish-osgi-framework-java' (and someone could then later add
'libknoplerfish-osgi-bundles-java').
OK for you?

Yes. Should I need them in the future I will create a new RFP/ITP.

Sincerely
Sveinung Kvilhaugsvik

Bug#478323: I could package Knoplerfish's Framework only

2010-02-13 Thread Eric Lavarde

Hello,

in order to package freeplane [1], I need only the framework part of the
 complete set, and it's pretty easy to package as there is only one
dependency on libasm3-java.

Question: should I close as well the RTP bug, or do you need also the
bundles part? I'm asking because the bug is already so old, not sure
anybody but me needs it anymore.

BTW, I plan to rename the source packge to 'knoplerfish-osgi' and the
binary to 'libknoplerfish-osgi-framework-java' (and someone could then
later add 'libknoplerfish-osgi-bundles-java').

OK for you?

Thanks, Eric

Your ITP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.
The package is already available under [1] and I'm only waiting for my
sponsor to upload it :-P
(I'm not putting too much pressure on him because he's a nice guy and
the important package, freemind, is still in beta stadium)

Bug#354374: RFP: libjibx-java -- a framework for binding XML data to Java objects

2006-02-25 Thread Eric Lavarde
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libjibx-java
  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Dennis Sosnoski
* URL : http://jibx.sf.net/
* License : BSD
  Description : a framework for binding XML data to Java objects

JiBX is a framework for binding XML data to Java objects. It lets you
work with data from XML documents using your own class structures. The
JiBX framework handles all the details of converting your data to and
from XML based on your instructions. JiBX is designed to perform the
translation between internal data structures and XML with very high
efficiency, but still allows you a high degree of control over the
translation process.

How does it manage this? JiBX uses binding definition documents to
define the rules for how your Java objects are converted to or from XML
(the binding). At some point after you've compiled your source code into
class files you execute the first part of the JiBX framework, the
binding compiler. This compiler enhances binary class files produced by
the Java compiler, adding code to handle converting instances of the
classes to or from XML. After running the binding compiler you can
continue the normal steps you take in assembling your application (such
as building jar files, etc.). You can also skip the binding compiler as
a separate step and instead bind classes directly at runtime, though
this approach has some drawbacks.

The second part of the JiBX framework is the binding runtime. The
enhanced class files generated by the binding compiler use this runtime
component both for actually building objects from an XML input document
(called unmarshalling, in data binding terms) and for generating an XML
output document from objects (called marshalling). The runtime uses a
parser implementing the XMLPull API for handling input documents, but is
otherwise self-contained.

(And basically I need it because it'll be a dependency of the next
FreeMind version)

Thanks, Eric

Bug#296117: Higher version of jaxme required for FreeMind

2005-11-03 Thread Eric Lavarde - Debian Bugs
Hi,

in the meantime, jaxme comes in version 0.5.
Tests have shown that it doesn't provide yet all features required by
FreeMind (see http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAXME-61).
Hence a potential packager should either go for version 0.6 (no due date
said the developers) or write a patch covering this specific feature.

Bug#296118: acknowledged by developer (Package exists in the archive)

2005-08-17 Thread Eric Lavarde - Debian
Hi,

it's fine with me, just one remark: I actually thought I'd close the bug
and if you look at the changelog, you'll see that I close it in version
1.2.2-1.
Due to different back and forth with my sponsor, only version 1.2.2-6 was
finally uploaded as initial release.

Wouldn't it make sense to extend the search for "Close" specifications to
all the changes since last upload of the package? Or what would have been
the correct way for me to handle this case? (I don't remember having seen
anything about this case in the documentation)

Or is it just an (unwritten?) rule that all closes must be in the last
changes section when uploading?

Thanks and sorry for the trouble,
Eric

Bug#320044: ITP: libforms-java -- framework helping you lay out and implement elegant Swing panels quickly and consistently

2005-07-26 Thread Eric Lavarde
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Eric Lavarde <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: libforms-java
  Version : 1.0.5
  Upstream Author : Karsten Lentzsch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : https://forms.dev.java.net/
* License : BSD
  Description : framework helping you lay out and implement elegant Swing
panels quickly and consistently

 The FormLayout has been designed to be powerful, flexible, precise and
 easy to learn and understand. It can significantly reduce the time to
 describe a form and to fill it with components. The layout manager
 introduces a unique layout feature: it honors the screen resolution and
 dialog font size to retain the layout proportions in different
 environments.
 .
 Also, we have seperated the layout task from the panel construction.
 Therefore we provide a set of non-visual builders that assist you in
 defining common panel layouts and in filling a form with components.
 The JGoodies Forms ships with general purpose builders and builders for
 specialized layout tasks. For example, the DefaultFormBuilder helps you
 build forms with one, two, three, or four columns. The ButtonBarBuilder
 specializes in building button bars.
 .
 On top of these non-visual builders the JGoodies Forms provides
 factories that create the most frequently used layouts, panels, bars
 and stacks. We recommend to use the factory methods whenever possible;
 future releases may map a logical panel creation to a concrete creation
 method that honors the platform and look&feel, for example the Mac vs.
 Windows button bar layout, where Mac has the default button in the
 right hand side and Windows in the left.
 .
 Alternative URL: http://www.jgoodies.com/freeware/forms/

(and the main interest for me is that it's a dependency for FreeMind
0.8.0)
The good news is that the library compiles with free java tools (already
succeeded with free-java-sdk).

Cheers, Eric

Hi,

I need the library for continuing to package freemind.

Concerning the License, I was not sure, so asked upstream and got the
following answer (with my question quoted):

--- 8< ---

> Hence my question to you: the license to be applied to xsdlib is not
> clear to me. In the package, there is some Sun and some Apache license

It's a mixture of the apache license and the MIT license. The most of
the code is under the MIT license (see license.txt in the bundle), and a
small portion of it is under the apache license (see
Apache-LICENSE-1.1.txt)

I hope this won't make your life too hard. There are too many licenses
in the world!

--- 8< ---

So true ;-)

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Bug#296118: RFP: libjcalendar-java -- Java date chooser bean for graphically picking a date

2005-02-20 Thread Eric Lavarde
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libjcalendar-java
  Version : 1.2.2
  Upstream Author : Kai Toedter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.toedter.com/en/jcalendar/
* License : LGPL
  Description : Java date chooser bean for graphically picking a date

 JCalendar is composed of several other Java beans, a JDayChooser, a
 JMonthChooser and a JYearChooser. All these beans have a locale
 property, provide several icons (Color 16x16, Color 32x32, Mono 16x16
 and Mono 32x32) and their own locale property editor. So they can easily
 be used in GUI builders.

(I need this package to be able to package freemind version 0.8.0).

Thanks, Eric

Bug#296117: RFP: libjaxme-java -- open source implementation of JAXB, the specification for Java/XML binding

2005-02-20 Thread Eric Lavarde
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libjaxme-java
  Version : 0.3.1
  Upstream Author : Apache team!?
* URL : http://ws.apache.org/jaxme/
* License : Apache Software License, Version 2.0
  Description : open source implementation of JAXB, the specification for
Java/XML binding

>From the home page:
..
 A Java/XML binding compiler takes as input a schema description (in most
 cases an XML schema but it may be a DTD, a RelaxNG schema, a Java class
 inspected via reflection or a database schema). The output is a set of
 Java classes:
..
* A Java bean class compatible with the schema description. (If the
* schema was obtained via Java reflection, then the original Java
* bean class.)
* An unmarshaller that converts a conforming XML document into the
* equivalent Java bean.
* Vice versa, a marshaller that converts the Java bean back into the
* original XML document.
..
 In the case of JaxMe, the generated classes may also
..
* Store the Java bean into a database. Preferrably an XML database
* like eXist, Xindice, or Tamino, but it may also be a relational
* database like MySQL. (If the schema is sufficiently simple. :-)
* Query the database for bean instances.
* Implement an EJB entity or session bean with the same abilities.

(to be very honest with you, it's a bit chinese to me, I only know that
I need the library to be able to package freemind 0.8.0)

so, after looking over the latest version, assuming there are no

i don't think this really warrants a cool off period in experimental,
but if someone has a reasonable objection then i will put it there instead.
i'll probably do this on saturday.

Since this package claims to be GPL (although there might be issues with the
reverse engineering which this code is based on) is there any reason not to
integrate this code into the kernel-source package and have the pwc.ko
module compiled automatically to kernel-packages?
The kernel-package-2.6.10-1-686 package already contains several usb-webcam
drivers in the /drivers/usb/media/ directory which are approximately the
same size as pwc.ko.

i suppose it could be added to the debianized kernel source package,
but since the original author asked to have it yanked from the mainline
kernel and it is now itself forked and maintained outside of the kernel,
i think this approach makes the most sense. at least for the time being.

Bug#280324: ITP: freemind -- A Java Program for creating and viewing Mindmaps

2004-11-10 Thread Eric Lavarde

Hi,

hope this is OK to reply-to-all in such cases...

Have you tried to compile/run freemind with any of the available
DFSG-free JREs so far?
Not personally, but some users have unintentionally and unsuccessfully
tried to start FreeMind with kaffe and gcj. Would I get a different
result if I would try to _compile_ first FreeMind with whatever free JDK?

I'm not yet a Debian developer, going through the documentation and
the process of becoming one.

Recently I spent a few hours on creating a freemind package myself,
since I hadn't seen the links to your package so far. If you want,
I'll be happy to sponsor your package.
It would be a pleasure, I just need to find a key signer nearby. Anybody
living around Böblingen (or Stuttgart)?
So, what would be the next steps? Remember: I'm still going through the
documentation (and I didn't think it would be so quick to get a sponsor
:-) ).

Thanks, Eric

Cheers,
-Hilko
